Integrating the perspective of sexuality into occupational therapy treatment

    No full text
Introduction: The American Occupational Therapy Association defines sexual activities as basic activities of daily living. Illness, injury, or disability can significantly affect these activities, requiring professional intervention, as the expression of sexuality remains an important human need regardless of health status. Occupational therapists have a unique role in supporting sexuality as part of occupational identityhowever, this area is often neglected due to a lack of knowledge, discomfort, or cultural beliefs. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis was to explore Slovenian occupational therapists’ opinions on including sexuality in therapy, how often and for what purpose they include it in their interventions, and the reasons why they do not. The study also examined whether occupational therapists perceive themselves as competent to address sexuality-related issues in therapy. Methods: A quantitative approach was used. Data were collected using an online questionnaire, which was fully completed by 93 respondents and partially completed by 15 respondents. Results: Most respondents agree that sexual activities are important for health and well-being, as they contribute to physical satisfaction, emotional bonding, and the fulfilment of reproductive needs (M = 4.5), and that sexual activities influence satisfaction and quality of life (M = 4.2). Nevertheless, 60% of respondents do not include sexuality in their interventions at all, and a quarter include it only rarely. The main reasons are a lack of knowledge and the fact that clients do not raise the issue themselves. Most respondents who include sexuality in interventions from rarely to very often do not agree that addressing sexuality is an important part of therapy (M = 1.9). The highest level of agreement was with the statement that the purpose of including sexuality is to increase clients’ satisfaction and quality of life (M = 3.8). Most respondents disagree that they acquired sufficient knowledge during their studies to address sexuality (M = 1.5) and agree that they need additional education on this topic (M = 3.9). Discussion and conclusion: Although occupational therapists in Slovenia, as elsewhere in the world, recognise the importance of sexuality for health and quality of life, they mostly do not include this area in their interventions. These findings indicate a need for stronger professional support, additional training, and the development of clear guidelines to enable therapists to integrate sexuality more competently and confidently into therapeutic practice. At the same time, further in-depth research is needed to provide more detailed insight into on this important topic and to contribute to the development of practice and the improvement of quality in the field of occupational therapy

Ovarian hormones may modulate key physiological functions that play a crucial role in the acute response to hypoxia. Women remain underrepresented in high-altitude physiology research. This exploratory study aimed to investigate the impact of menstrual cycle (MC) phases on resting skeletal muscle oxygen consumption and post-occlusive microvascular reactive hyperemia in the lower limbs during acute high-altitude exposure in eumenorrheic women. Microvascular function was assessed via vascular occlusion test in combination with near-infrared spectroscopy on the vastus lateralis muscle. Measurements were conducted at low altitude (1224 m) and after one night at 3375 m (inspired O2_2 pressure: 96 ± 1 mmHg) during both the early follicular (EF) and mid-luteal (ML) phases. At high altitude, baseline tissue saturation index (TSI) (65.0 ± 4.8 vs. 66.1 ± 2.7 %p = 0.559), desaturation rate (-0.086 ± 0.061 vs. -0.080 ± 0.039 %⋅s1^{-1}p = 0.920), normalized reperfusion slope (0.013 ± 0.010 vs. 0.014 ± 0.005 %⋅s1^{-1}p = 0.100) and minimum TSI (52.9 ± 6.8 vs. 53.9 ± 3.9 %p = 0.647) did not differ significantly between EF and ML. Reperfusion rate decreased significantly from low (0.894 ± 0.320) to high altitude during both EF (0.661 ± 0.424p = 0.027) and ML (0.722 ± 0.253p = 0.027). These findings suggest that microvascular function is not significantly modulated by the MC at 3375 m. This study adds further evidence suggesting that no specific recommendation regarding the optimal menstrual cycle phase for acute high-altitude exposure is warranted

Diplomska naloga predstavlja razvoj preprostega sistema za zaznavanje in preprečevanje vdorov (IDS/IPS) z uporabo odprtokodnih orodij. Sistem omogoča zaznavanje petih pogostih vrst napadov: TCP SYN, UDP in ICMP poplav, pregledovanja vrat in DNS ojačitve. This thesis describes the development of a lightweight Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDS/IPS) built using open-source tools. The system identifies five common types of attacks—TCP SYN, UDP, and ICMP floods, port scans, and DNS amplification—and logs them to a database while optionally applying automatic IP blocking. The goal was to design an educational and extendable security prototype demonstrating how open technologies can be combined into a functional real-time network defense system

Accelerating Particle-in-Cell simulations in Tokamak Scrape-off Layer using segmented surrogate models

    No full text
Achieving sustainable fusion energy critically depends on accurately modeling complex plasma dynamics within tokamak reactors, particularly in the Scrape-off Layer (SOL), where heat and particles directly interact with reactor walls, influencing reactor performance and component longevity. Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulations, although highly accurate, are computationally expensive and time-consuming, limiting their use for iterative design and real-time control. We employ an Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)-based surrogate model to efficiently predict plasma potential along the tokamak SOL using data from PIC simulations under varying operating conditions. The machine learning (ML) approach integrates physics-informed segmentation of the spatial modeling domain, distinguishing sharply between sheath regions and the quasineutral bulk plasma. This segmentation substantially enhances the surrogate model’s predictive accuracy to localized physical phenomena, a marked improvement over traditional global modeling strategies. We utilize XGBoost regression with hyperparameter optimization achieved through a tailored leave-one-curve-out (LOCO) validation method, ensuring robust generalization to previously unseen plasma conditions. We found that a global model with segmented consideration of the spatial dimension based on boundary plasma physics captures localized behaviors more accurately. This segmented approach leads to a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 3.2%, outperforming other methods. The main engineering application of this approach is the significant reduction in computational resources and simulation time required for fusion reactor design and real-time plasma control. This allows rapid iterative design, improved operational decision-making, and potentially extends the operational lifetime of reactor components

This research examines the aspects of the culture, tradition, and historical background of the tales entitled "Megaremeng" and other tales. This analysis utilized the tales due to their strong representation of Madura culture, tradition, and historical background. To collect data, ethnographic research was conducted through interviews with stakeholders from Sumenep to obtain original information. Then, the data was rewritten with the principles of children\u27s literature by adding any conflicts and illustrations to attract the readers to read the tales. The flying horse, or Megaremeng, was closely related with the society in Sumenep, as proof it is used as the emblem of the city until today. It means Mearemeng was told orally from one generation to the next. As the ride of the king, Megaremeng was trusted by the society that still exists. It can be found in the gravestone of two Sumenep noble’s family today, and also it was in the Sumenep museum in front of theSumenep or Songenep palace. The identity of Sumenep and Madura was also depicted in Joko Thole’s custom with a traditional Madura shirtthus, it can have brought the readers\u27 imagination into the reality

Slovene Littoral Composers of Liturgical Music During the Italian Occupation (1918-1945)

    No full text
V magistrski nalogi so najprej predstavljeni izvajalci pevci mešanega cerkvenega zbora župnije Podzemelj in program. Tukaj smo podrobno predstavili oblikovno strukturo, agogične in dinamične oznake, melodične, ritmične in harmonske značilnosti skladbe. Pri didaktičnem pristopu smo izpostavili mesta, kjer so navzoče kompozicijske in izvajalske zahteve ter opisali primerne vaje in načine pri izvedbi. K uspešni pripravi pevskega zbora so nam podrobne analize zelo pripomogle. S tem smo spoznali različne dejavnike in posebnosti, ki so vodile k bolj kvalitetni izvedbi in domiselni interpretaciji skladb. The master\u27s degree performance titled Slovene Littoral Composers of Liturgical Music During the Italian Occupation includes the works of three composers, who had become the symbol of religious and national loyalty by their artistic activity during the time of fascist oppression. The concert was performed by the Podzemelj parish mixed choir. The performance consisted of the works by composers Vinko Vodopivec, Emil Komel and Lojze Bratuž. In addition to these composers, the poets who authored the lyrics in Slovenian played an important role in conserving and promoting the language during the time when Italian authorities in the fascist regime systematically repressed the Slovenian national community, discontinued cultural institutions, forbade the use of Slovenian in education and public sphere, Italianized surnames etc. However, the use of the language persisted in families, rural areas and churches, including catechesis in Slovenian (the so called Sedej Schools). This paper first introduces the singers in the Podzemelj Parish Mixed Choir and the music from the performance, followed by the biographies of the composers and the poets and an analysis of the performed music. In the composers\u27 biographies their personalities, as well as their work and the broader social context was described. The authors of the lyrics are separately described as important contributors and creators and are therefore given an important role in the paper. The lyrics were meticulously analyzed, especially the content, structure and message. Composition and harmonies were analyzed in the music itself, using paradigmatic semantic analysis. A separate chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the music in terms of the performance and the teaching method, where structure, agogic accents and dynamic markings, melodic, rhythmic and harmonic characteristics are also presented. The places where instructions on composition and performance are present were highlighted in the chapter on the teaching method. The detailed analysis was very helpful in the preparation for the performance, since it enabled us to learn of various factors and specifics that improved the performance of the choir. This was challenging for the choir, which consists mostly of amateur singers. The successful performance was only possible because of the singers\u27 motivation and a lot of practice
