Modelling brain metabolism with interacting nonautonomous phase oscillators
Traditional brain models have focused primarily on electrical signalling, offering valuable insights but often overlooking the crucial role of metabolism within the neurovascular unit. Existing metabolic models tend to be highly detailed and mass-based, relying on strict conservation laws that limit their applicability to the brain’s thermodynamically open environment. In this study, we present a novel, phenomenological model of neuronal energy metabolism using a network of coupled Kuramoto oscillators. This nonautonomous phase dynamics framework captures complex, time-dependent interactions and allows for multiple synchronization states among metabolic processes. Our model captures key features consistent with healthy neurovascular dynamics, despite not being directly fitted to empirical data from resting-state brains and reveals how disruptions in metabolic synchrony may contribute to dementia-related pathology. By emphasizing the importance of metabolic coordination in the neurovascular unit, this work provides a versatile methodological foundation for future brain modelling efforts
Acoustic and articulatory visual feedback in classroom L2 vowel remediation
This paper presents L2 vowel remediation in a classroom setting via two real-time visual feedback methods: articulatory ultrasound tongue imaging, which shows tongue shape and position, and a newly developed acoustic formant analyzer, which visualizes a point correlating with the combined effect of tongue position and lip rounding in a vowel quadrilateral. Ten Czech students of the Swedish language participated in the study. Swedish vowel production is difficult for Czech speakers since the languages differ significantly in their vowel systems. The students selected the vowel targets on their own and practiced in two classroom groups, with six students receiving two ultrasound training lessons, followed by one acoustic, and four students receiving two acoustic lessons, followed by one ultrasound. Audio data were collected pre-training, after the two sessions employing the first visual feedback method, and at post-training, allowing measuring Euclidean distance among selected groups of vowels and observing the direction of change within the vowel quadrilateral as a result of practice. Perception tests were performed before and after training, revealing that most learners perceived selected vowels correctly already before the practice. The study showed that both feedback methods can be successfully applied to L2 classroom learning, and both lead to the improvement in the pronunciation of the selected vowels, as well as the Swedish vowel set as a whole. However, ultrasound tongue imaging seems to have an advantage as it resulted in a greater number of improved targets
Identities of female entrepreneurs from different periods
This article explores how female entrepreneurs construct and negotiate entrepreneurial identities across socialist, transition, and post-socialist periods in Slovenia. Drawing on feminist, post-structuralist, and identity-theory perspectives, we ask what determines women’s entrepreneurial identities and how multiple roles and changing institutions shape them. Using a qualitative multiple-case design, we analyze 15 information-rich cases se- lected through purposive sampling and based on in-depth semi-structured interviews and supporting documents. Qualitative content analysis and cross-case comparison identified patterns within and across the three periods. Results show that women’s motives combine economic, autonomy, and mission-driven goalsthat entrepreneurial identity is closely intertwined with motherhood, partnership, and community rolesand that evolving ecosys- tems offer increasing but still fragmented support. Identity work intensifies at transitions between employment and entrepreneurship and when growth ambitions confront care re- sponsibilities. We conclude that female entrepreneurial identities in Slovenia are historically and institutionally embedded and that gender-integrative, context-sensitive ecosystem measures are needed to support diverse entrepreneurial pathways and long-term, socially responsible growth
Determination of mechanical properties of laminated stator packs using natural frequency measurements
Problem nepoznavanja togostnih materialnih lastnosti vodi v dejstvo, da potrebujemo dejanske meritve, saj ocene preko simulacij ni mogoče izvesti zaradi pomanjkanja podatkov. The problem of unknown stiffness material properties leads to the necessity of performing actual measurements, as estimations through simulations cannot be conducted due to a lack of data. To solve this problem, the natural frequencies were measured
and, through a response surface optimization process, the desired material parameters were obtained. A linear elastic model was applied in order to describe the composite material, aiming for speed and ease of use. It was demonstrated that natural frequency measurements conducted using mobile phones are equivalent to those obtained with professional equipment

Polona Glavan in Dino Bauk v romanih Kakorkoli (2014) in Konec. Znova (2015) skušata z verbalizacijo empatičnega doživljanja rušiti stereotipe, ki obstajajo v družbi, in interpretirati kolektivno travmatično izkušnjo
A non-compensatory framework integrating LCA and QFD for robust manufacturing sustainability decisions under uncertainty:
Manufacturing decarbonization and sustainability improvement require decision-support methods that can prioritise actions across multiple, often conflicting dimensions, including product quality, process stability, resource efficiency, and environmental performance. In industrial practice, such decisions are further complicated by stochastic variability and the presence of dominant drivers, which limit the usefulness of conventional linear, weighted- sum scoring approaches. This paper proposes a non-compensatory decision framework with explicit stochastic uncertainty propagation that integrates quality function deployment (QFD) with life cycle assessment (LCA) to support robust, value-driven prioritisation of manufacturing improvement actions under uncertainty. The approach combines QFD-style influence factor modelling with LCA-based environmental indicators and employs a non- linear, non-compensatory aggregation scheme to reduce sensitivity to arbitrary weighting and to better capture dominant and tail-risk effects. Uncertainty is propagated using Monte Carlo simulation, and the stability of prioritisation outcomes is analysed using sensitivity measures. The framework is demonstrated on an industrial old corrugated container (OCC) paper machine line using operational data from plant information systems, including quality, process control, laboratory, and maintenance databases. Results show that the proposed integration yields more stable and interpretable prioritisation of improvement actions than conventional compensatory scoring methods, particularly under variable operating conditions. The proposed approach enables practical, data-driven sustainability decision-making in complex manufacturing processes under variable operating conditions and alternative process configurations
Slovene attitude towards (con)federalism, autonomism and unitarism from the Vidovdan Constitution to elections in 1923
The article uses journal publications and memoirs of prominent individuals to analyze the Slovene political sphere’s attitude toward the cultural and territorial aspects of the Yugoslav idea during the period from the Vidovdan Constitution to the elections of 1923. From a territorial perspective, a desire to incorporate Bulgarians into the Yugoslav state was evident across all factions of the Slovene political spectrum. For the Slovene liberals, this was seen as a natural sequence of events aligned with their pan-Slavic ideology, while conservatives viewed it as a strategy to reduce internal Serbian dominance. During this period, elements of autonomism were noticeable in all segments of Slovene politics, including among some liberals who otherwise supported the idea of Yugoslav unitarism. Despite internal divisions, the Slovene conservatives emerged as the political winners of that time. Although their vision of Yugoslavism – both territorial and cultural – differed significantly from that of the state authorities, the conservatives employed moderate oppositional rhetoric. They capitalized on the partial alignment of their tactical goals with those of the Radical Party, eventually fostering cooperation between the largest Slovene and Serbian political parties. On the other hand, although the social democrats and communists had no elected representatives in the elections, Slovenian communists were among the early advocates of the right to national self-determination during this period. This principle was soon integrated as a fundamental tenet of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia’s programme, and the struggle against centralism became a key pillar of its strategy for gaining power
A comparative analysis of the values of coaches and parents in the judo kindergarten program – the example of Slovenian judo clubs
Najpomembnejši vrednotni sklopi so bili spoštovanje, poštenost, samoobvladovanje in prijateljstvo. This master\u27s thesis examines the role of a preschool judo program as a context of secondary socialization, focusing on the comparison of value orientations between coaches and parents of participating children. The study is based on understanding judo as a social institution that provides children with both physical development and the transmission of moral, social, and cultural values. Judo is grounded in eight value categories, derived from judo tradition and formally supported by the International Judo Federation. The aim of the research is to determine the extent to which value orientations of judo coaches and parents align or differ, considering gender and social role. The study uses a comparative analysis combining qualitative (semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (online questionnaires) methodologies. Secondary data from Social Science Data Archive were also used to contextualize the findings within broader Slovenian society. Results indicate that coaches’ and parents’ value orientations are largely consistent with each other and with prevailing value orientations in Slovenian society. The most significant value categories were respect, honesty, self-control, and friendship. Observed gender differences did not indicate value conflicts but rather reflected different modes of interpreting and transmitting these values. The preschool judo program can therefore be considered an effective environment for linking family and institutional socialization and for supporting the overall development of children
