    Public acceptability of fusion energy: a scoping review of social science research

    Background: As nuclear fusion progresses from a scientific prospect to a plausible commercial energy source, its successful deployment will depend not only on technical and economic viability but also on public acceptability. Understanding the social landscape is therefore critical for navigating the path to commercialization. Objective: This article addresses a gap in the literature by providing the first scoping review of social science research on the public acceptability of fusion energy conducted over the last two decades (2005–2025). Methods: A systematic search of academic databases was conducted. A final corpus of 14 research articles was selected and synthesized using narrative and thematic analysis to map the field\u27s key concepts, methodologies, and findings. Two additional post-window studies were included as emerging evidence. Results: The review finds that research is concentrated in Europe and the United States. A consistent picture emerges: public awareness of fusion is low, yet attitudes are generally positive, though tentative and weakly held. The most powerful predictors of acceptability are pre-existing attitudes towards nuclear fission, affective responses, risk-benefit perceptions, and trust in governing institutions. Conclusion: The public acceptability of fusion is shaped by a complex interplay of psychological, social, and contextual factors. Achieving a durable social license requires a paradigm shift towards strategic, multi-faceted engagement that balances inclusive dialogue with evidence-based risk communication addressing public values, emotions, and concerns

    Integrable fishnet circuits and Brownian solitons

    We introduce classical many-body dynamics on a one-dimensional lattice comprising local two-body maps arranged on discrete space-time mesh that serve as discretizations of Hamiltonian dynamics with arbitrarily time-varying coupling constants. Time evolution is generated by passing an auxiliary degree of freedom along the lattice, resulting in a \u27fishnet\u27 circuit structure. We construct integrable circuits consisting of Yang-Baxter maps and demonstrate their general properties, using the Toda and anisotropic Landau-Lifschitz models as examples. Upon stochastically rescaling time, the dynamics is dominated by fluctuations and we observe solitons undergoing Brownian motion

    Raziskava vloge črevesnih mikrobnih metabolitov kot posrednikov vplivov okoljske izpostavljenosti na zdravje

    Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental contaminants increasingly linked to metabolic disturbances. This study investigated how microbial metabolites generated during in vitro colonic fermentation under PFAS exposure affect hepatocyte metabolism. Fecal samples from nine different donors of different sexes and dietary backgrounds were fermented with or without PFAS. The resulting extracts were applied to HepaRG hepatocytes for 24 h. Metabolomic and lipidomic profiling revealed distinct alterations compared to PFAS-spiked controls. On the one hand, bile acids, namely cholic acid (log2(FC) = 1.04p = 3.45 × 10⁻14), taurodeoxycholic acid (log2(FC) = 1.06p = 1.28 × 10⁻17), and taurochenodeoxycholic acid (log2(FC) = 0.32p = 0.0098) were significantly increased, indicating enhanced bile acid synthesis. Several lipid compounds were also upregulated, namely triglycerides (TG(48:3), log2(FC) = 0.34p = 0.0312), hexosylceramide (HexCer(d18:1/22:0), log2(FC) = 0.29p = 0.0108), and lysophospholipid (LPC(18:2), log2(FC) = 0.27p = 0.0392), suggesting impaired fatty acid beta-oxidation and lipid accumulation. On the other hand, multiple acyl-carnitines such as hexadecenoylcarnitine (log2(FC) = -1.35p = 4.51× 10⁻6) and octadecenoylcarnitine (log2(FC) = -2.10p = 0.0013) were downregulated, while free L-carnitine (log2(FC) = 0.29p = 0.0009) was elevated, reflecting a disruption of mitochondrial fatty acid transport. Moreover, deoxyuridine, a nucleosideN-acetylneuraminateand N-methyltyramine sulfate were elevated, indicating altered nucleotide metabolism and microbial biotransformations under the influence of PFAS. In addition, functional pathway analysis revealed estrogen biosynthesis (p = 0.0138) and dTMP de novo biosynthesis (p = 0.0344) as the top-enriched pathways. In conclusion, PFAS exposure altered gut microbial metabolites, which, in turn, induced hepatocyte metabolic shifts associated with bile acid dysregulation, lipid accumulation, and disrupted energy metabolism, pointing to mechanisms relevant for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease development.Per- in polifluoroalkilne snovi (PFAS) so obstojna okoljska onesnažila, ki vse pogesteje povezujemo s presnovnimi motnjami. Namen te študije je bil raziskati kako mikrobni metaboliti, ki so nastali med in vitro kolonsko fermentacijo ob prisotnosti PFAS, vplivajo na metabolizem hepatocitov. Fekalne vzorce devetih darovalcev različnih spolov in prehranskih navad smo fermentirali v prisotnosti ali odsotnosti PFAS. Nastale ekstrakte smo nato 24 ur izpostavili hepatocitom HepaRG. Metabolomsko in lipidomsko profiliranje je razkrilo izrazite spremembe v primerjavi s kontrolami, kjer smo hepatocite izpostavili fekalnim ekstraktom obogatenim s PFAS. Med žolčnimi kislinami so se povišale vsebnosti holne kisline (log₂FC = 1,04p = 3,45 × 10⁻¹⁴), tavro-deoksiholne kisline (log₂FC = 1,06p = 1,28 × 10⁻¹⁷) in tavro-kenodeoksiholne kisline (log₂FC = 0,32p = 0,0098), kar kaže na okrepljeno sintezo žolčnih kislin. Povečale so se tudi vsebnosti nekaterih lipidnih spojin, med drugim trigliceridov (TG(48:3), log₂FC = 0,34p = 0,0312), heksozil-ceramida (HexCer(d18:1/22:0), log₂FC = 0,29p = 0,0108) in lizofosfolipida (LPC(18:2), log₂FC = 0,27p = 0,0392), kar nakazuje oslabljeno beta-oksidacijo maščobnih kislin in akumulacijo lipidov. Nasprotno pa so se vsebnosti številnih acil-karnitinskih spojin, kot sta heksadekenoil karnitin (log₂FC = -1,35p = 4,51 × 10⁻⁶) in oktadekenoil-karnitin (log₂FC = -2,10p = 0,0013), znižale, medtem ko se je prosti L-karnitin (log₂FC = 0,29p = 0,0009) povišal, kar kaže na moten mitohondrijski transport maščobnih kislin. Poleg tega so se povišale tudi spojine deoksiuridin, N-acetilneuraminat in N-metiltiramin sulfat, kar odraža spremembe v metabolizmu nukleotidov in mikrobnih biotransformacijah pod vplivom PFAS. Analiza funkcionalnih poti je dodatno pokazala obogatitev v biosintezi estrogena (p = 0,0138) in de novo biosintezi dTMP (p = 0,0344). Pokazali smo, da je izpostavljenost PFAS spremenila mikrobne metabolite črevesja, ki so posledično povzročili presnovne spremembe v hepatocitih, povezane z deregulacijo žolčnih kislin, akumulacijo lipidov in motnjami v energijskem metabolizmu, kar nakazuje na mehanizme, ki so pomembni za razvoj metabolno povezane zamaščenosti jeter

    Uvod: Neplodnost predstavlja kompleksen problem in je posledica delovanja raznih dejavnikov, ki lahko vplivajo na moške ali ženske. Obstajata primarna in sekundarna neplodnost. Običajno se je povezovala s starejšimi pari, v današnjih časih pa ni več tako, saj se pojavlja tudi pri mladih. Kljub napredku medicine je neplodnosti vse več, saj se je načrtovanje družine, v primerjavi s preteklostjo, zamaknilo. Namen: Namen diplomskega dela je prepoznati in analizirati najpogostejše vzroke ter ugotoviti kako vpliva na kakovost življenja mladih parov. Metode dela: V diplomskem delu smo uporabili deskriptivno metodo dela s pregledom tuje strokovne in znanstvene literature. Za iskanje literature smo uporabili podatkovne baze Pubmed, Cinahl in Cochrane library. Iskalno strategijo smo prikazali s PRISMA diagramom. Zastavili smo si dve raziskovalni vprašanji in v poglobljeno analizo vključili 20 člankov. Rezultati: Ugotovili smo, da obstaja veliko vzrokov, ki povzročajo neplodnost in posledično vplivajo na kakovost življenja mladih. Najbolj pogosto so bile v raziskavah omenjene okužbe, poškodbe, anatomske nepravilnosti, določene napake v moškem ali ženskem reproduktivnem sistemu, neaktiven življenjski slog, neustrezna prehrana, kajenje in alkohol. Posledica tega je, da vzroki vplivajo na partnerske odnose, komunikacijo, še najbolj pa na psihološko stanje posameznikov in stres. Razprava in zaključek: Neplodnost pri mladih parih povzročajo številni medicinski in življenjski dejavniki, nezdrav življenjski slog in stres. Te težave vplivajo na splošno zdravje, počutje in partnerske odnose, zato zahtevajo celovit pristop. Ozaveščanje in preventiva sta zato zelo pomembna, saj mladi pogosto prepozno poiščejo pomoč in niso ustrezno obravnavani. Obstajajo izobraževanja, na katerih lahko dobijo uporabne informacije, ustrezno svetovanje in varno okolje za različna vprašanja. Babice kot zdravstveni delavci imajo ključno vlogo pri svetovanju in podpori za ohranjanje reproduktivnega zdravja, zato morajo stalno nadgrajevati svoje znanje.Introduction: Infertility represents a complex phenomenon resulting from the interaction of numerous factors, which can affect men or women. There are two types of infertility, primary and secondary. It was traditionally associated with older couples, but today this is no longer the case, as it also occurs in young people. Despite advances in medicine, infertility is becoming more common, since family planning has been postponed compared to the past. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to identify and analyze the most common causes of infertility, as well as to determine how infertility affects the quality of life of young couples. Methods: A descriptive research method was used supported by a review of foreign professional and scientific literature. The literature search was conducted in the PubMed, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases. The search strategy was presented using a PRISMA diagram. We formulated two research questions and included 20 articles in the analysis. Results: We found that there are many causes of infertility, which consequently affect the quality of life of young people. The most frequently mentioned factors in the studies were infections, injuries, anatomical abnormalities, certain disorders of the male or female reproductive system, a sedentary lifestyle, inadequate diet, smoking, and alcohol use. As a result, these causes influence relationships, communication, and especially the psychological well-being and stress levels of individuals which causes low quality of life. Discussion and conclusion: Infertility in young couples is caused by numerous medical and lifestyle factors, unhealthy habits, and stress. These issues affect overall health, well-being, and relationships, which is why a comprehensive approach is needed. Awareness and prevention are very important, as young people often seek for help too late and are not properly addressed. Various educational programs exist where they can receive useful information, appropriate counseling, and a safe environment for asking questions. Midwives, as healthcare professionals, play a key role in counseling and supporting the preservation of reproductive health, which requires continuous improvement of their knowledge

    Joining of metallic and polymeric components through additively manufactured lattice interlocking structures

    Napredek na različnih področjih zahteva potrebo po razvoju funkcionalnejših komponent in polizdelkih. Ena od potreb je tudi spajanje kovinskih in polimernih komponent. Obravnavali smo izvedbo spoja, ki temelji na tlačnem brizganju polimera v celično strukturo izdelano z dodajalno tehnologijo selektivnega laserskega taljenja (SLT). Kot osnovna elementa celičnih struktur sta bili obravnavani BCC in BCCZ celici. Na osnovi preskusov natezne trdnosti je bilo ugotovljeno, da je z uporabo omenjenih tehnologij mogoče izdelati funkcionalni spoj. Kot naj vplivnejši parameter je bil ugotovljen premer paličja, ki vpliva na relativno gostoto mrežaste strukture in efektivni presek brizganega polimera. Pokazali smo tudi zelo dobro ujemanje teoretično ocenjene in s poskusi izmerjene natezne trdnosti spoja.Progress in various fields requires the development of more functional components and semi-finished products. One of the emerging needs is joining of metalic and polymer components. In this study, we investigated a joint based on injection molding of polymer into a ccellular structure manufactured using the additive technology of Selective Laser Melting (SLM). As the basic elements of the cellular structures, BCC and BCCZ unit cells were considered. Based on tensile strenght tests, it was found that the use of the mentioned technologies enables the production of a functional joint. The most influential parameter was identified as the strut dimeter, which affects the relative density of the lattice structure and the effective cross-section of the injected polymer. We also demonstrated very good agreement between the theoretically predicted and experimentally measured tensile strenght of the joint

    Colour fastness of digital prints on white and black cotton knitted fabric

    V raziskavi so preučevane barvne obstojnosti pigmentov na digitalno potiskanih vzorcih belega in črnega pletiva v sestavi bombaž/elastan. Pri tisku na belo pletivo so bile uporabljene štiri procesne barve, in sicer cian, magenta, rumena in črna, pri tisku na črno pletivo pa le tri procesne barve, in sicer cian, magenta in rumena. Procesne barve so tiskarska črnila, ki so vodne disperzije pigmentov. Vzorci pletiv so bili potiskani z digitalnim kapljičnim tiskalnikom Epson SureColor F2200. Na zraku posušenih in z vakuumsko stiskalnico fiksiranih potiskanih vzorcih so bile barve spektrofotometrično ovrednotene z uporabo barvnega sistema CIELAB. Na potiskanih vzorcih so bili izvedeni testi barvne obstojnosti pri drgnjenju, pranju, vročem likanju, znojenju in na svetlobi v skladu z veljavnimi standardi SIST EN ISO. Barvne obstojnosti so bile vizualno ocenjene s sivo skalo oziroma v primeru barvne obstojnosti na svetlobi z modro volneno skalo. Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da osnovna barva pletiva vpliva na barvo natisnjenih vzorcev. Barva natisnjenih vzorcev na črnem pletivu je drugačna od barve natisnjenih vzorcev na belem pletivu. Pigmenti na potiskanih vzorcih pletiv so odlično barvno obstojni na svetlobi, zelo dobro do odlično barvno obstojni pri pranju, vročem likanju in proti znoju ter nekoliko manj obstojni pri mokrem drgnjenju v primerjavi s suhim drgnjenjem. Digitalno potiskano bombažno pletivo s pigmenti je primerno za tekstilne izdelke za vsakdanjo rabo.The study investigated the colour fastness of pigments on digitally printed samples of white and black cotton/elastane knitted fabric. Four process colours were used for printing white knitted fabric, namely cyan, magenta, yellow and black, while only three process colours were used for black knitted fabric, namely cyan, magenta and yellow. The knitted samples were printed using the Epson SureColor F2200 digital inkjet printer. Process colours are aqueus dispersions of pigments. The colours of the air-dried vacuum-pressed printed samples were evaluated spectrophotometrically using the CIELAB colour space. The printed samples were tested for colour fastness to rubbing, washing, hot ironing, perspiration and light in accordance with the applicable SIST EN ISO standards. Colour fastness was assessed visually using a grey scale and a blue wool scale was used for light fastness. The results of the study showed that the background colour of the fabric influenced the colour of the printed samples. The colour of black dyed printed knitted fabric deffer influence was more pronounced with black than with white knitted fabric. The colour fastness of samples printed with pigments is excellent to light, very good to excellent to washing, hot ironing and perspiration and slightly less to wet rubbing than to dry rubbing. Digitally printed cotton fabric with pigments is suitable for everyday textile products

    V prispevku je predstavljena kvalitativna analiza odzivov na socialnem omrežju Twitter glede jezikovne podobe nanizanke Primeri inšpektorja Vrenka (po literarni predlogi Avgusta Demšarja), ki je bila predvajana na TV Slovenija 1 v letih 2021 in 2023. Večina odzivov se nanaša na neuporabo lokalnega geolekta, kar ekranizaciji odvzema pristnost.This article presents a qualitative analysis of reactions on the social network Twitter regarding the linguistic character of the TV series Primeri inšpektorja Vrenka (Inspector Vrenko’s Cases, based on works by Avgust Demšar), which aired on TV Slovenija 1 in 2021 and 2023.     Leposlovje se v različnih oblikah pojavlja v učbenikih za slovenščino kot drugi ali tuji jezik, učenci pa so večinoma naklonjeni obravnavi leposlovja. 123 učencev slovenščine kot drugega ali tujega jezika je v anketi naštelo številne pozitivne učinke branja leposlovja v slovenščini, kot so učenje novega besedišča, razumevanje konteksta, učenje o slovenski kulturi ter tudi splošno ustvarjalnost in užitek ob branju.Fiction appears in various forms in textbooks of Slovenian as a second or foreign language, and students mostly prefer to study fiction. In this survey, 123 learners of Slovenian as a second or foreign language listed several positive effects of reading fiction in Slovenian, such as learning new vocabulary, understanding context, and learning about Slovenian culture, as well as general creativity and enjoyment of reading

    В современных условиях конкуренции главным условием успеха и эффективности, а порой и необходимости обеспечения выживаемости в условиях рынка выступает инновационная деятельность. Привлекательность туристских дестинаций также в значительной степени обусловлена уровнем инновационного развития туризма, соответствующего современным запросам потребителей, значительно облегчающим и ускоряющим обслуживание туристов, повышая их лояльность. Недостаточная изученность инновационного развития туристской сферы Казахстана и отсутствие его качественной оценки обусловили выбор темы данного исследования. Цель данной статьи заключается в выявлении резервов инновационного развития туристской отрасли на основе мнения экспертов – казахстанских специалистов отрасли. В качестве теоретико-методологической основы статьи выступили основополагающие принципы туризмологии, теорий инноватики и экономического развития. Теоретической и информационной базой послужили разработки отечественных и зарубежных ученых по проблемам формирования и развития отраслевой инновационной системы. Проведение исследования основано на всеобщих методах научного познания, в рамках системного подхода с применением методов анализа и синтеза, абстрактно-логического, монографического, сравнения и обобщения, графического. В статье представлены результаты проведенного социологического опроса, позволившего провести качественную оценку уровня инновационного развития туризма в мегаполисах страны. Научная значимость исследования заключается в дальнейшем развитии теоретических представлений об инновациях в сфере туризма. Практическая значимость исследования состоит в определении направлений дальнейшего развития туристских инно.In today’s competitive environment, innovative activity is a key for success, efficiency, and sometimes even a necessity for survival in market. The attractiveness of tourist destinations is largely determined by the level of innovation development in tourism, which meets modern consumer demands by significantly facilitating and expediting tourist services, thereby enhancing customer loyalty. The insufficient study of innovation in Kazakhstan’s tourism sphere, as well as the lack of its qualitative assessment, has motivated the choice of this research topic. The aim of this article is to identify the reserves for innovation development in the tourism sector based on the opinions of experts – Kazakhstani industry specialists. The theoretical and methodological framework of the article is based on the fundamental principles of tourism studies, innovation theories, and economic development. The theoretical and informational basis comprises the works of domestic and foreign scholars on the issues of formation and development of sectoral innovation systems. The research employs general scientific methods within a systems approach, utilizing methods of analysis and synthesis, abstract-logical reasoning, monographic study, comparative analysis, generalization, and graphical methods. The article presents the results of a sociological survey, which enabled a qualitative assessment of the level of innovation development in tourism in the country’s metropolises. The scientific significance of the study lies in furthering theoretical understandings of innovation in tourism. Its practical significance consists in identifying directions for the further development of tourism innovations, which may be used in programs aimed at developing the tourism sector of the country and its regions
