The impact of object-centric process mining on business efficiency
Although traditional process mining techniques have enabled substantial enhancements in process transparency and optimization, they frequently prove inadequate for capturing the intricacies of actual business processes, which are characterized by multiple interacting entities. OCPM addresses this limitation by allowing a more nuanced and multi-dimensional analysis of processes. By integrating both traditional and object-centric approaches, the study provides a comparative analysis of the performance and utility of each method, highlighting the specific benefits of OCPM in improving process transparency and operational efficiency. The findings reveal that OCPM offers a more comprehensive understanding of complex business operations, which is crucial for enhancing decision-making and achieving better performance outcomes. Additionally, the study outlines the challenges and opportunities of implementing OCPM in real-world settings, emphasizing its practical implications for business process optimization
The boulevard of broken dreams?
This study investigates the long-term impact of socialism on economic growth, focusing on the unique case of labor-managed socialism in former Yugoslavia. By comparing Slovenia with OECD and East Asian donor countries that did not undergo postwar socialist transitions, we estimate counterfactual scenarios using synthetic control methods. Our findings show that labor-managed socialism led to a temporary growth deviation, followed by a structural collapse in the 1980s. Our estimates suggest that Slovenia’s per capita GDP would be 22 percent higher today had there been postwar economic and political liberalization in place. By contrast, if socialist policies had continued after 1990, Slovenia\u27s per capita GDP would be 63 percent lower today. These results remain robust across various robustness checks
Bonding of wood with the adhesive from waste polystyrene
Vsako leto svet proizvede čedalje več obstojnih plastičnih odpadkov, ki se kopičijo v naravi. Ena izmed rešitev je njihova reciklaža in ponovna uporaba za izdelavo novih izdelkov ali polizdelkov. Reciklirana plastika, predvsem termoplasti, imajo potencial tudi v lesarstvu. V naši raziskavi smo iz odpadnih kavnih lončkov in žličk iz polistirena ter s topilom dimetilformamid izdelali lepilni mešanici in izdelali lepljence iz lesa za ugotavljanje strižne trdnosti lepilnih spojev po standardu SIST EN 205:2016. Uporabili smo dve temperaturi stiskanja (150 °C in 120 °C) ter štiri načine temperiranja oziroma ohlajanja lepljencev pred odprtjem stiskalnice. S primerjavo različnih postopkov lepljenja smo ugotovili, da lepilo iz lončkov najvišjo trdnost doseže po ohladitvi lepljencev na 75 °C preden smo jih vzeli iz stiskalnice, medtem ko lepilo iz žličk po hlajenju lepljencev na 100 °C ali 25 °C. Ugotovili smo tudi, da se s hlajenjem lepljencev na nižjo temperaturo pred odprtjem stiskalnice bistveno zmanjša variabilnost rezultatov, kar priča o bolj zanesljivih lepilnih spojih. Zahteve standarda SIST EN 204:2016 smo uspeli doseči z lepljencem, ki je bil zlepljen z lepilom iz lončkov pri temperaturi 150 °C in ohlajen na 75 °C preden smo ga vzeli iz stiskalnice.Each year the world produces more and more durable plastic waste, which is accumulating in nature. One of the solutions to ease its impact is to recycle and reuse it for new products and intermediate products. Recycled plastic, especially thermoplastic, has great potential in the wood industry. In our research, we have used waste coffee cups and spoons made of polystyrene to make two adhesive mixtures, using dimethylformamide as a solvent. To establish the shear strength of adhesive bonds, we made bonded wood panels according to the instructions by standard SIST EN 205:2016. The idea was to optimize the temperature of hot pressing and to add a cooling procedure to ensure better shear strength of the bond, which is needed to reach the minimum criteria of the SIST EN 204:2016 standard. We used two temperatures for hot pressing (150 °C and 120 °C) and four ways of panel cooling in a closed press. After trying out different procedures, we came to the conclusion that the best way to use a coffee cup adhesive is to cool it down to 75 °C, while for the spoon-based adhesive the best bonding method is to cool the joints down to 100 °C or 25 °C. We also found that by cooling the panels in a closed press the consistency of the results increases, which makes the adhesive bonds more reliable. We managed to reach standard criteria with a sample which had been glued with coffee cup adhesive, hot pressed at 150 °C and cooled down to 75 °C before being taken out of the press

Ker je na cesti vsako leto več električnih vozil, je dobro vedeti kako je s polnilno infrastrukturo. Pomembno je, da imajo vozniki električnih avtomobilov omogočeno polnjenje na čim več mestih in da je izkušnja polnjena dobra. Tu pa pridemo do težave, saj zaenkrat takšne storitve v bolj razširjeni meri še ne poznamo. Tako sem se v okviru diplomske naloge lotil izdelave mobilne aplikacije, ki bo optimizirala načrtovanje poti, hkrati pa bo imel uporabnik vedno pri roki tudi podatke o polnilnih postajah in izkušnjah drugih uporabnikov.Since there are more electric vehicles on the road every year, it is good to know how is with the charging infrastructure. It is important that drivers of electric cars are able to charge in as many places as possible and that the charging experience is good. But here we come to a problem, because so far we do not know such a service on a more widespread scale. So, as part of my thesis, I created a mobile application that optimizes route planning, while also giving the user access to information about charging stations and the experiences of other users
Curvilinear sprint acceleration-speed profile in youth soccer players is constrained by tighter radii and sprinting side dominance
This study investigated how the acceleration-speed profile (ASP) of the weaker and stronger side changes at different radii. Twenty male youth soccer players completed 30 m linear and curvilinear sprints (12.15, 11.15, 9.15, 7.15, and 6.15 m radius) in three training sessions. Sprint speed and acceleration over time and distance were recorded using a GNSS device. The maximum theoretical speed (S), the acceleration (A), slope of the ASP (AS), the area under the AS (ASP), the acceleration at a sprint speed of 3 m/s (A), and the curvilinear sprint deficit (ASP) of the individual sprints were analyzed. The effects of side, radius, and their interaction were evaluated with 2 × 5 ANOVA and the post hoc tests. A significant effect of radius and side was observed for all variables (F ≥ 3.50, p ≤ 0.037, η ≥ 0.15). The ASP and S decreased at tighter radii. The A and A remained relatively unchanged, resulting in a steeper AS, and a larger ASP. At the same radius, the weaker side CS had a smaller ASP, S, A, and a larger ASP. The ASP of the curvilinear sprint in youth soccer players is side-dependent at both ends (acceleration and top speed), while radii mainly affect late acceleration and top speed performance. These observations should be considered when adapting soccer players’ sprint training and monitoring external load based on acceleration
Addressing MT literacy in a specialized translation class
The use of MT tools is typically covered in translation technology courses, but with the significant advances in AI-based MT and the ubiquitous presence of MT tools, issues relating to MT inevitably also arise in practical translation classes. This paper focuses on exploring how MT literacy can be incorporated into a specialized translation class. By contrasting trainee translators’ performance in post-editing and translation, the study examines which aspects of MT literacy emerge as particularly relevant. In addition, the participants’ views on the post-editing and translation assignments are compared. The results reveal that while MT output can be useful to trainee translators faced with a demanding source text, the benefits of MT tools coexist with challenges. Addressing issues relating to comprehension, terminology and rhetoric, five aspects of MT literacy that need to be addressed in a specialized translation class are identified. The findings suggest that the integration of MT literacy into specialized translation courses is crucial for successful use of MT tools in translation
Application of the AMS AS7341 Sensor as a Wearable Instrument for Measuring Light Exposure
V pričujočem magistrskem delu smo predstavili vezje proizvajalca MIKROE Spectrometer click, čigar glavna komponenta je integrirano vezje AS7341, ki ga izdeluje podjetje ams OSRAM. AS7341 je enajstkanalni senzor za določanje spektra svetlobe. Cilj naloge je bil s pomočjo omenjenega senzorja izdelati spektrometer, s pomočjo katerega bi določili koordinate x, y, z v CIE 1931 koordinatnem sistemu.
Za nadzor oz. podajanje ukazov senzorju AS7341 smo uporabili mikrokrmilnik proizvajalca Arduino. V njegovem programskem okolju je v jeziku C++ napisana tudi programska koda. Ukaze krmilniku sporočamo preko štirih tipk, s katerimi se premikamo po meniju, spreminjamo nastavitve ter izvajamo meritve. Zaradi lažjega urejanja rezultatov podatke shranjujemo tudi v tabelo MS Excel.
Pridobljene rezultate meritev smo primerjali z rezultati spektroradiometra, ki se uporablja na fakulteti. Rezultati so se precej razlikovali od referenčnih vrednosti. Naknadno smo ugotovili, da je potrebna kalibracija senzorja za vsak tip svetlobe posebej in še takrat ni nujno, da bodo rezultati ustrezni. Iz tega sledi, da senzor AS7341 ni ustrezna zamenjava za spektroradiometer.In this master\u27s thesis, we have presented a circuit manufactured by MIKROE Spectrometer click, whose main component is the AS7341 integrated circuit manufactured by ams OSRAM. The AS7341 is an eleven-channel sensor for determining the light spectrum. The aim of the task was to use this sensor to build a spectrometer that would determine the x, y, z coordinates in the CIE 1931 coordinate system.
We used an Arduino microcontroller to control and send commands to the AS7341 sensor. The program code, written in the C++ language, is also written in its programming environment. Commands are sent to the controller via four buttons, which are used to navigate the menu, change settings, and perform measurements. For easier editing of the results, the data is also stored in a MS Excel table.
We compared the obtained measurement results with the results of the spectroradiometer used at the faculty. The results differed significantly from the reference values. We subsequently determined that the sensor needs to be calibrated for each type of light separately, and even then, the results may not necessarily be accurate. It follows that the AS7341 sensor is not a suitable replacement for a spectroradiometer
Organisational knowledge and innovation failures
Purpose - This study aims to explore the relationship between organisational knowledge (OK) and innovation failures, as well as their connection to future innovation capability, while testing the moderating effect of knowledge spillovers (KS) on these two previous relationships. Design/methodology/approach - The data set used in this study comes from the Community Innovation Survey (CIS), which has been widely used in innovation research. The CIS is a harmonised questionnaire based on the Oslo Manual, with methodological recommendations specified by Eurostat, and includes questions on a range of topics related to innovation activities. This study used the CIS2018, which covers 2016–2018 and includes 100,115 companies with more than 10 employees from 14 european union (EU) countries (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Romania and Slovakia). Findings - Using logistic and linear regression models, the authors find that OK can effectively decrease innovation failures. However, after a failure, firms are more likely to pursue new, innovative projects only if KS is considered a moderator in the relationship between innovation failures and innovative capacity. The authors did not observe statistical significance in the KS moderation effect between OK and innovation failure. In other words, a company does not attempt to learn solely from a failure but should seek new knowledge to analyse what went wrong. Therefore, knowledge transfer that promotes discussion and learning from unexpected outcomes is vital for a firm to continue innovating successfully. Originality/value - This research contributes to the understanding of the impact of failure on innovation from a knowledge-based perspective, examining how different failure mechanisms can diminish future innovation, despite growing interest in how failure can promote it

Investigating the impact of glycine replacement with aromatic and heteroaromatic amino acids on nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain protein 2 agonistic activity of desmuramylpeptides
Receptor z nukleotid-vezočo oligomerizacijsko domeno 2 (NOD2), ki se nahaja predvsem v imunskih celicah, spada v družino receptorjev za prepoznavo vzorcev (PRR) in je eden pomembnejših receptorjev za prepoznavanje patogenih mikroorganizmov v našem telesu. Receptor NOD2 kot osnovni ligand prepozna muramil dipeptid (MDP), ki je del celične stene bakterij. Ob vezavi liganda se sprožita tako prirojeni kot pridobljeni imunski sistem, zato imajo agonisti NOD2 velik terapevtski potencial kot adjuvansi v cepivih pa tudi kot imunoterapevtiki za zdravljenje raka. V zadnjih letih so odkrili tudi imunoregulatorno vlogo agonistov NOD2, zaradi česar bi se lahko v prihodnosti uporabljali v terapiji nevrodegenerativnih bolezni, kot sta multipla skleroza in Alzheimerjeva demenca. Trenutno je na evropskem farmacevtskem tržišču registriran mifamurtid, ki se v določenih primerih uporablja za zdravljenje operabilnega nerazsejanega osteosarkoma.
V sklopu magistrske naloge smo želeli izboljšati agonistično aktivnost dezmuramilnih derivatov MDP na NOD2. Izhajali smo iz spojine vodnice, v strukturo katere smo namesto aminokisline glicin uvedli različno orientirane aromatske in heteroaromatske aminokisline, s tem pa vpeljali različno velike lipofilne elemente in sintetizirali šest končnih spojin. Z reporterskim testom na celicah HEK-Blue hNOD2 smo preverili njihovo sposobnost aktivacije NOD2, hkrati pa smo preverili tudi njihovo citotoksičnost.
Rezultati so pokazali, da so končne spojine z D-orientiranimi aromatskimi aminokislinami bolj aktivne kot njihovi analogi z L-konfiguracijo na kiralnem centru, kot najbolj optimalna aminokislina pa se je izkazal homofenilalanin. Spojina 14, ki v strukturi vsebuje D-homofenilalanin, namreč izkazuje NOD2 agonistično delovanje že v femtomolarnem koncentracijskem področju (EC50 = 16 fM), kar predstavlja izboljšanje jakosti za več kot pet velikostnih razredov v primerjavi z do tedaj najmočnejšim dezmuramilpeptidom pa tudi muramilpeptidom in je daleč najmočnejši sintezni agonist NOD2 do sedaj.The nucleotide-binding oligomerisation domain 2 receptor (NOD2), found mainly in immune cells, belongs to the pattern recognition receptor (PRR) family and is one of the most important receptors for detection of pathogenic microorganisms in our body. NOD2 recognises muramyl dipeptide (MDP), which is part of the bacterial cell wall, as its primary ligand. Binding of the ligand to the NOD2 receptor triggers both the innate and acquired immune system, and therefore NOD2 agonists have great therapeutic potential as adjuvants in vaccines as well as immunotherapeutics for the treatment of cancer. In recent years, researchers have also discovered an immunoregulatory role for NOD2 agonists, which could lead to future applications in the therapy of neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer\u27s dementia. Currently, mifamurtide is registered on the European pharmaceutical market and is used in certain cases for the treatment of operable unresectable osteosarcoma.
In the scope of the Master\u27s thesis, we aimed to improve the agonist activity of MDP desmuramyl derivatives on NOD2. Starting from the lead compound, we introduced differently oriented aromatic and heteroaromatic amino acids instead of the amino acid glycine into its structure, thereby introducing lipophilic elements of different sizes thus synthesising six final compounds. Their ability to activate NOD2 was verified by a reporter assay on HEK-Blue hNOD2 cells, and their cytotoxicity was also tested.
The results showed that final compounds with D-oriented aromatic amino acids were more active than their analogues with an L-configuration at the chiral centre, and homophenylalanine was found to be the most optimal amino acid. Indeed, compound 14, which contains D-homophenylalanine in its structure, exhibits NOD2 agonist activity in the femtomolar concentration range (EC50 = 16 fM), which represents an improvement in potency of more than five orders of magnitude over the most potent desmuramylpeptides to date, as well as muramylpeptides, and is by far the most potent synthetic NOD2 agonist to date
