The acceptability and feasibility of an internet-administered, guided, low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy intervention for parents of children treated for cancer : findings from a qualitative study involving public contributors
Background Despite parents of children treated for cancer commonly reporting psychological difficulties such as symptoms of depression and anxiety, there is a lack of evidence-based psychological interventions tailored to their needs. We therefore developed an internet-administered, guided, low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy-based self-help intervention (EJDeR). We examined the acceptability and feasibility of the intervention and study procedures in the single-arm feasibility trial ENGAGE. Results suggested the intervention and study procedures are feasible and acceptable. However, a need for modifications and refinements to the intervention and study procedures was identified. We conducted a qualitative interview study to explore the acceptability and feasibility of the intervention and study procedures from the perspective of parents to inform modifications and refinements to the intervention and study procedures. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 52 parents (17 fathers, 35 mothers). A public contribution group (three parents of children treated for cancer) analysed the data independently from the research team and contributed to dissemination. An inductive content analysis was performed using the Framework Method. Results The intervention was perceived as acceptable and relevant, and parents expressed positive attitudes toward internet-administered support. However, parents identified a need for adaptations to intervention content, e.g., a greater focus on the family, trauma, and the cancer experience. Barriers to engagement were also identified, including technical difficulties and a need for modifications to improve intervention user-friendliness and smartphone and/or tablet compatibility. Study procedures were also perceived as acceptable and feasible. However, a need was identified to improve parents' understanding of the study and to reduce the amount and frequency of assessments. The public contributors' analysis was similar to that of the research team. However, the research team overlooked important nuances. For example, the public contributors' analysis highlighted parents' difficulties distinguishing between the intervention and study procedures. Conclusions The intervention and study procedures were perceived as acceptable and feasible. However, the need for important modifications and refinements were suggested to improve future acceptability and feasibility. Involving public contributors in the analysis resulted in developing a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the data. Measurement of exclusive J/ψ and ψ(2S) production at √s=13 TeV
Measurements are presented of the cross-section for the central exclusive production of J/ψ→μ+μ− and ψ(2S)→μ+μ− processes in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV with 2016–2018 data. They are performed by requiring both muons to be in the LHCb acceptance (with pseudorapidity 2<ημ±<4.5) and mesons in the rapidity range 2.0<y<4.5. The integrated cross-section results are σJ/ψ→μ+μ−(2.0<yJψ<4.5,2.0<ημ±<4.5)=400±2±5±12pb, σψ(2S)→μ+μ−(2.0<yψ(2S)<4.5,2.0<ημ±<4.5)=9.40±0.15±0.13±0.27 pb, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the luminosity determination. In addition, a measurement of the ratio of ψ(2S) and J/ψ cross-sections, at an average photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of 1 TeV, is performed, giving σψ(2S)σJ/ψ=0.1763±0.0029±0.0008±0.0039, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the involved branching fractions. For the first time, the dependence of the J/ψ and ψ(2S) cross-sections on the total transverse momentum transfer is determined in pp collisions and is found consistent with the behaviour observed in electron-proton collisions.For complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.21468/SciPostPhys.18.2.071</p

Observation of ψ(3686) → K−Λ(1520)¯Ξ+ + c.c.
Based on (2712.4 ± 14.3) × 106 ψ(3686) events collected at the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we present the first observation of the decay ψ(3686)→K−Λ(1520)¯Ξ+ + c.c.. The product branching fraction B[ψ(3686)→K−Λ(1520)¯Ξ++c.c.]×B[Λ(1520)→pK−] is measured to be (9.47 ± 0.75 ± 0.97) × 10−7, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.For complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/JHEP03(2025)145</p
DORMS : An experience-design gamification approach to waterconsumption and social connections
Student corridors are one of the most sustainable ways of living,with the possibility of being a social hub, an arena for spreading sustainablehabits, and an overall space-effective housing solution. Today’s situation,however, shows a trend where the student corridor is becoming less popularamong newer generations of students, and that students currently living incorridors are experiencing higher degrees of loneliness. This creates problemsfor students in how well they can perform in their education and causesunnecessary stress during the process of becoming an adult. On a societallevel, the cost of turning student corridors into single-room apartments wouldbe substantial, and the student corridors’ potential as sustainable housingsolutions would go unrealized. This paper presents a system, called DORMS,which provides students with a web application that tracks water consumption,visualizes water consumption data, and rewards sustainable habits withunlockables inspired by nature themes and the local cultural context.Combining ideas from recent works in gamification, norm theory, andexperience design, DORMS is a novel application of gamification in a localcontext, aimed at creating experiences of belonging and coherence for itsusers. First-round usability evaluation indicates that the aesthetics andmetaphors used do create interest and motivation, and that the designprinciples followed, succeeds in presenting water consumption data in anunderstandable way and in creating a platform that is easy to navigate. Theproject implies that designing gamification platforms for experience, withaesthetically pleasing symbols from local cultural context, is something to befurther explored in creating systems for long-term user engagement
Onset of strong Iceland-Scotland overflow water 3.6 million years ago
North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW), the return flow component of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), is a major inter-hemispheric ocean water mass with strong climate effects but the evolution of its source components on million-year timescales is poorly known. Today, two major NADW components that flow southward over volcanic ridges to the east and west of Iceland are associated with distinct contourite drift systems that are forming off the coast of Greenland and on the eastern flank of the Reykjanes (mid-Atlantic) Ridge. Here we provide direct records of the early history of this drift sedimentation based on cores collected during International Ocean Discovery Programme (IODP) Expeditions 395C and 395. We find rapid acceleration of drift deposition linked to the eastern component of NADW, known as Iceland-Scotland Overflow Water at 3.6 million years ago (Ma). In contrast, the Denmark Strait Overflow Water feeding the western Eirik Drift has been persistent since the Late Miocene. These observations constrain the long-term evolution of the two NADW components, revealing their contrasting independent histories and allowing their links with climatic events such as Northern Hemisphere cooling at 3.6 Ma, to be assessed.De två första författarna delar förstaförfattarskapet</p
Statlig legitimitet under internationell kontroll : En analys av hur FN:s resolutioner om AMISOM formulerar civilt skydd och statlig legitimitet i Somalia
This thesis investigates how United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) describe state legitimacy and the protection of civilians within the context of international statebuilding. Through a theory-driven thematic analysis of nine resolutions adopted between 2018 and 2022, the study explores how the Somali state is assigned responsibility for civilian protection and governance. The analysis is guided by the concept of human security focusing on personal and political security, and David A. Lake’s theory of The Statebuilder’s Dilemma, which emphasizes the tension between promoting local legitimacy and ensuring external interests. Findings show that while the resolutions promote national ownership and human rights, key decision-making roles and institutional development are entrusted to international actors. Civilian protection is framed as a normative obligation but lacks concrete enforcement mechanisms. As a result, legitimacy is often portrayed as performative and symbolic, rather than rooted in social recognition and local autonomy. The study concludes that the resolutions reflect a broader dilemma of international statebuilding, where sovereignty is affirmed rhetorically but constrained in practice.
Reactivity of Carbonyl-Containing Solid Polymer Electrolytes in Lithium-Metal Batteries from First-Principles Molecular Dynamics
Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are promising candidates for all-solid-state Li-metal batteries (ASSLMBs) due to their high safety and excellent mechanical flexibility. However, the widely used polyethers suffer from low ionic conductivity at ambient temperature and unstable electrode-electrolyte interfaces. In this work, we systematically investigate the reactivities with metallic lithium of three carbonyl-containing polymer-based SPE hosts-a polyketone (POHM), a polyester (PCL), and a polycarbonate (PTeMC)-as potential alternatives to polyethers by means of DFT calculations and AIMD simulations. Our redox potential and frontier orbital analyses indicate that introducing alkoxy oxygens connected to carbonyl groups enhances the electrochemical stability of polyester and polycarbonate, but also increases their reactivity on the Li anode surface. In particular, PTeMC shows higher electron uptake and a lower conduction band when interacting with surface Li. This increased reactivity, however, may also promote the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), preventing further reduction of the electrolyte. We further summarize the possible decomposition mechanisms of the SPE polymer host and predict the resulting SEI components. The simulations revealed that POHM predominantly undergoes alpha-dehydrogenation and nucleophilic addition-elimination reactions, while PCL exhibits Ccarbonyl-Oalkoxy bond cleavage, producing both saturated and unsaturated lithium alkoxides. In the case of PTeMC, breaking two Ccarbonyl-Oalkoxy bonds can generate two saturated lithium alkoxides and a LixCO species, or it can produce a RCO3Li species and unsaturated hydrocarbons via a Calkoxy-Oalkoxy bond cleavage; these pathways are kinetically favorable and unfavorable, respectively. This work underscores the influence of alkoxy oxygens in carbonyl-containing polymers and provides computational insights for guiding polymer electrolyte design
On the Reversibility of Sustainable Symmetric Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries
Herein, the effect of electrode anodization on the enhancement of the reversibility and the electrochemical activity of the redox-active molecule alizarin in both positive and negative electrodes is reported. Alizarin is a bifunctional plant-based anthraquinone redox species that exhibits irreversibility at positive potential (versus Ag/AgCl). The results show that the anodization of carbon paper increases surface area and introduces functional groups, which in turn promotes reversibility at the positive potential. To demonstrate the applicability of our technique, the modified electrodes are used in a symmetric aqueous organic redox flow battery, showing a significant improvement in capacity retention and Coulombic efficiency compared to pristine carbon electrodes
Causal effects of obesity on estimated glomerular filtration rate : a Mendelian randomization and image data analysis study
BACKGROUND: Obesity has been associated with onset and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) but causal relationship remains uncertain. This study investigated how obesity causally affects estimated glomerular filtration rate. METHODS: Cross-sectional and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data analyses were performed within the Prospective Investigation of Obesity, Energy, and Metabolism (POEM) study (502 participants, all aged 50 years). Additionally Mendelian randomization was performed using published summary data. Outcomes were creatinine- and cystatin C-based eGFR. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were used as exposure variables in the cross-sectional and Mendelian randomization analyses. In the imaging data analyses, eGFR was regressed non-parametrically on tissue volume for each 3D voxel and visualized as a correlation "Imiomics" map. RESULTS: Negative correlations were shown between cystatin C-based eGFR and BMI [beta = -0.190 (95% CI: -0.280 to -0.100)] and WC [beta = -0.160 (95% CI: -0.250 to -0.060)] in an adjusted model. In contrast, a positive association was found for creatinine-based eGFR [BMI beta = 1.20 (95% CI: 0.030 to 0.210) and WC beta = 0.160 (95% CI: 0.070 to 0.260)]. Similar patterns were found using MRI analysis (Imiomics map). Mendelian randomization implied a negative causal effect of obesity-related measures on cystatin C-based eGFR [BMI beta = -0.031 (95% CI: -0.037 to -0.026) and WC beta = -0.038 (95% CI: -0.045 to -0.031)], but no statistically significant effect was found for creatinine-based eGFR. CONCLUSION: This study suggests a causal negative effect of obesity on cystatin C-based, but not creatinine-based eGFR. These findings warrant further research regarding estimations of kidney function when assessing obesity and CKD
