Eat, pray, love: en chick-flick eller religionsundervisningens mecka? : En analys av existentiella utmaningar och religionsdidaktisk potential i filmen Eat, pray, love.

    No full text
The aim of this study was to examine how existential themes are portrayed in the film Eat, pray, love (2010) and if religion works as a tool for the main character to navigate existential challenges. Additionally, the purpose of the analysis was to peruse if the film has any didactic potential in religious education. The research questions for the study were investigated by using a qualitative method called thematic content analysis. The questions were as follows: What existential challenges are portrayed in the film through the main character's journey? How does religion function as a tool for the main character to achieve a high sense of coherence and thus the ability to navigate existential challenges? Can the film function as a pedagogical tool in a religious didactic context? The first question used Irvin Yalom's definition of four existential challenges and the second question was based on Aaron Antonovsky's theory of sense of coherence. The result of the analysis shows that all four of Yalom's existential challenges were portrayed in one way or another in the film. With the help of Antonovsky's definition of sense of coherence one could also see that the main character used religion as a way of coping in situations where stress and challenges occurred. Consequently, the study has found that the film can be useful in religious educational situations. Furthermore, it can be stated that the study has given a new perspective on how commercial films can be analyzed from an existential and religious point of view.

Tidigmedeltida glasmålningsfragment och ett exklusivt glaskärl : Återupptäckta fynd från Gamla Uppsala kyrka

    No full text
In 1926, several fragments of medieval glass were found in the church of Gamla Uppsala in Sweden. While some of these are well known and have previously been identified as part of a late 13th or early 14th century stained-glass window documented in 1710, a recent survey has led to new discoveries. Some of the glass is clearly damaged by fire, which suggests that it likely dates to a period prior to c. 1204, when the church was a large Romanesque cathedral, and Gamla Uppsala was the seat of the first Swedish archbishop. Another interesting find is fragments of an exclusive, as-yet unidentified, glass vessel with gold foil inlays.Uppsala Technical Humanities Network (UTHN

Shaping the Swedish Hydrogen Ecosystem : Unpacking Stage, Mechanisms and Strategic Enablers

    No full text
Human society encounters a significant challenge in limiting global warming to 1.5 °C by 2050. Here, hydrogen plays a vital role in the energy transition to a sustainable energy system. However, green hydrogen is not integrated into the energy system to such an extent that it has avaluable and sustainable contribution. In order for green hydrogen to obtain a vital role, industry must develop. This study argues that the traditional hydrogen supply chain structure with unilateral relations should be carefully utilized in the current hydrogen ecosystem, and more attention should be drawn to bilateral structures that coincide with the theory of ecosystems. Theory of ecosystems occurs as a suitable perspective to describe the hydrogen industry. In the Swedish hydrogen ecosystem several opportunities and barriers unfold. Key findings show that hydrogen can be produced in close collaboration with wind power actors, posing synergies. Additionally, this study emphasises several hydrogen production opportunities including production at agricultural sites, biogas plants and wastewater treatment plants. Prominent opportunities of utilizing hydrogen unfolds to be in the heavy vehicle industry, maritime industryand aviation industry. This study reveals how the Swedish hydrogen ecosystem can be viewed as an innovation ecosystem in early phase of development, which can be streamlined by transparent external relations, collaboration in product development and the initiation of joint ventures with external stakeholders.

Livsmedelssäkerhetskultur i hemtjänsten : En kvantitativ studie om personalens kunskap, rutiner och förutsättningar i arbetet med äldre

    No full text

Urban Early modern houses : from excavations to standing structures, and back again

    No full text
This article discusses archaeological documentation of buildings: How do we excavate and understand buildings? In the documentation, how does the archaeological concept of building remains relate to the broader concept of house? How can we attain deeper knowledge by adding a historical perspective of buildings archaeology in future archaeological excavations? Which knowledge can we bring back to the trench? These questions should be seen against the background of the rapid and profound changes in urban archaeology from the 1960s/70s onwards. Both the number of archaeological investigations of building remains, as well as the chronological span, have, together with rapid technological and methodological development, created new conditions for analyzing the development of houses and buildings. Through the project HASP – Houses and Social Practices 1600-1850 (Uppsala University 2021-2026, funded by the Swedish Research Council), these questions have been further brought to light. The project studies urban residential buildings during the period in five Swedish cities (Linköping, Kalmar, Vadstena, Norrköping and Jönköping

    Generalised symmetries in linear gravity

    No full text
Linearised gravity has a global symmetry under which the graviton is shifted by a symmetric tensor satisfying a certain flatness condition. There is also a dual symmetry that can be associated with a global shift symmetry of the dual graviton theory. The corresponding conserved charges are shown to satisfy a centrally-extended algebra. We discuss the gauging of these global symmetries, finding an obstruction to the simultaneous gauging of both symmetries which we interpret as a mixed 't Hooft anomaly for the ungauged theory. We discuss the implications of this, analogous to those resulting from a similar structure in Maxwell theory, and interpret the graviton and dual graviton as Nambu-Goldstone modes for these shift symmetries

When systems outlive their usefulness : A qualitative case study on organizational intentions behind system replacement processes

    No full text
Information systems (IS) follow a life-cycle including adoption, implementation, use, maintenance and eventually, discontinuance and replacement. While the earlier stages of the life-cycle are well researched and rigorously covered, the later stages remain underexplored. This thesis investigates the factors that influence an organization's response to an obsolete system using the Discontinuance Calculus model developed by Furneaux and Wade (2017) as an analytical lens. The study adopts a qualitative case study approach and is based on two Swedish organizations that recently went through a system replacement process. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with one key representative from each of the organizations where both had been heavily involved in the replacement process. The findings show that functional obsolescence, technical limitations and institutional norms are key drivers of replacement intentions whilst replacement risk and organizational readiness shape the feasibility of action. The study confirms the relevance of the Discontinuance Calculus model but also shows room for improvement with factors such as organizational structure and staff turnover. The insights from the study works as a good contribution to this underexplored field of IS research and provides empirical support for the theoretical model that previously lacked real-world validation.

Difficult Heritage or Objects of Science? : The Material Legacy of Nazi German Rock Art Research in Sweden

    No full text
The aim of this contribution is to analyse how the expeditions of the Dutch-German scholar Herman Wirth have been received and rembered in Sweden. In the 1930s he collaborated with the German Nazi organisation SSand was even one of the founders of its scientific branch "Ahnenerbe". As a scholar of ancient symbols and cults, Wirth was convinced there were remains of ancient sun cult to be found in Sweden and Norway. If these symbols, consisting mainly of petroglyphs but also runes, were correctly interpreted the secrets of this forgotten but superior culture would be unveiled. The next step after that would have been to use these secrets to strengthen Germanic culture by returning to some of its imagined roots. In 1935 and 1936 Wirth headed two expeditions to western Sweden in order to identify and document petroglyphs. Swedish authorities were involved in giving him access to these sites and allowing him to work on them. Wirth was also in contact with Swedish scholars in order to receive support and acceptance of his controversial ideas. This article is based on previous research and some of the existing archives in Sweden documenting how Wirth’s work was presented by himself and others, and how it was received and discussed in the Swedish context. After the end of the war Wirth spent an ample amount of time working in Sweden. Evidently, he met resistance mainly from the academic community but increasingly also from the authorities that were in charge of managing archaeological sites. For some time, though, he seems to have been able to collaborate with a few scholars in Sweden. The chapter concludes with a discussion on how Swedish authorities and scholars have related to Wirth and the work of SS in the 1930s, and encourages further research on the memory of SS led expeditions in the Scandinavian countries. Mattias Legnér is Professor in Conservation at Uppsala University and Docent in History. Among his research interests is how heritage becomes entangled in armed conflicts. His most important recent work is a monograph dealing with the use and abuse of heritage in Scandinavia in the period c. 1930–1945: Värden att värna.
