    No full text
Hjässan is called the highest hillock on Omberg in western Östergötland. The mountain and Hjässan dominate large parts of the surrounding countryside and are a central place in folk traditions around the mountain. Right next to the mountain is the famous Alvastra pile dwelling from the Neolithic period and in the area there are various central place-indicating phenomena from different periods in our history; the rock carvings in Hästholmen, the large burial ground Smörkullen from the Iron Age, the large early Christian cemetery as well as the Cistercian monastery in Alvastra. On Hjässan there is one of three ancient hillfprts that are usually dated to the Iron Age. Hjässaborgen is the largest, no less than 500 x 200 m in size. The ancient hillforts been interpreted as places of refuge, fortified farms and central meeting places. Hjässaborgen, with its central location, widely visible over large parts of western Östergötland, but at the same time large area and long, probably difficult to defend stone walls, fits better into the image of a central meeting place. This function has been noted in recent years, both in Swedish and international research. Hjässa's possible function as a central place and meeting place was followed in modern times by the large folk festivals that went by the name of Annandag Hjässe, or Ann da Hjässe, which refers to the fact that the meetings took place on Pentecost. They are documented in the 19th century. During the early 20th century, they received a large attendance of hundreds of participants. Extra trains were put into service to Alvastra railway station. In the 1930s, the festivities were attended by celebrities of the time such as Verner von Heidenstam, Prince Wilhelm, Bishop Tor Andrae and K-G Westman. As late as the 1980s, there is information that the mountain functioned as a meeting place. My article will shed light on the phenomenon surrounding this large folk festival at Omberg, and thus connect to Torun's article from 2003 about Queen Omma and Omberg in folk tradition

Thinking with soil in heritage matters

    No full text
This paper explores what could be learned 'by thinking with soil' in heritage matters, and 'thinking with heritage' in soil matters. Soil is connected to major sustainability issues as it is life-essential to a wide range of beings. Soil is rarely thought of as heritage, despite becoming a scarce resource over time. It is argued that heritage as 'landscapes of human perception' is not enough to meet the challenges at hand, whereas the alternative 'heritage as phenomena' allows for discussing the long-term material/immaterial multi-species interrelations that build up in situated soils. It gives better positions to discuss justice and care between generations and convivial re-generation of landscapes. The paper works with a case study from mid-Sweden to show how different 'agential-cuts' of soil give rise to stakeholder tensions as different worlds are produced

The invisible tastemaker : A user-centered study of Spotify´s recommendation system

    No full text

    No full text

    No full text
This study aims to explore upper secondary students’ and mathematics teachers’ perceptions of the process of identifying students at risk of developing difficulties in mathematics, as well as their views on the school's support measures. Students identified various factors that contributed to their struggles, including teaching methods, difficulties in understanding textbook language, insufficient support during lessons, and difficulties in the classroom learning environment. In addition, students experienced exam-related stress and expressed a desire for more opportunities for formative assessment.  The result underlines that small groups with the aim of remedial teaching had a positive effect on students and that teachers were able to provide the appropriate support. Despite the positive effects, the lack of time in terms of lesson times and planning sessions proved to be a challenge. Both students and teachers expressed a need for additional resources and support for students with mathematical difficulties.  The research uses semi-structured qualitative interviews to gain valuable insights from students´ and teachers´ perspectives on difficulties in mathematics. By carefully selecting informants based on students' challenges and conducting qualitative interviews, rich and detailed data about their experiences and opinions were collected. Four students and three math teachers from different upper secondary school programs participated in the study, allowing for a diverse representation within the same context. This approach also allows for comparisons between the experiences and viewpoints of different individuals within the same school.  The use of semi-structured questions during the interviews ensured a balance between the freedom of the informants to express themselves and the coverage of relevant topics.  The conclusion drawn pinpoints that students perceive the lesson structure, lesson content, and the completion of mathematics instructions influence their difficulties in the subject. This finding serves as a valuable basis for future interventions and improvements in teaching practice. In addition, it helps to identify areas where teachers can better adjust their students in supporting mathematics instruction.

Establishment of manual and autonomous control of a mobile robot and a robotic arm by implementation of control algorithms

    No full text
Autonomous driving and robotic manipulation are crucial technologies in the current world of robotics with applications in agriculture, logistics and manufacturing. The aim of this project was to establish manual and autonomous control of a robotic mobile platform equipped with a LiDAR unit and a robotic arm. As a part of this the movements of the mobile platform and the robotic arm were to be made more precise and responsive using PID-controllers. The project successfully achieved wireless manual control of the mobile platform using ROS2, allowing it to be maneuvered using either a keyboard or a gamepad. PIDcontrollers were implemented to effectively manage the linear and angular velocities of the mobile platform, enhancing its precision and responsiveness. Additionally, a LiDARbased obstacle avoidance algorithm was developed, enabling the robot to drive autonomously without collisions. Despite the achievements of the project, it encountered challenges with software, particularly relating to the robotic arm which was never brought to functionality. Recommendations for the future regarding the mobile platform include improving the autonomous navigation capabilities by implementing environmental mapping, making the robot able to interpret position commands and further developing the obstacle avoidance algorithm. For the robotic arm, the software issues would need to be addressed, after which manual control could be established and PID-control implemented

Signal Acquisition and Processing for Online Acoustic Emission Sensing of Battery Health

    No full text
Acoustic emission (AE) sensing is a growing non-destructive method toanalyze battery health. This makes it really valuable in research on lithium-ion batteries as the demand for non-destructive methods rises with the request for more sustainable energy solutions. While the AE method has a lot of potential there is today a lack of specialized software to record and analyze AE-data from batteries. To meet this need Resonate was developed, an application that handles both signal acquisition and signal analysis in one place. Resonate is built on existing hardware and improves the workflow of researchers by linking electrochemical experiment data with AE data. Resonate is also equipped with powerful signal analysis tools, including fast Fourier transform, continuous wavelet transform, Hilbert-Huang transform, and others. Resonate not only has an intuitive user interface, it also includes improved algorithms for pulse detection which reduces the number of false detections. By simplifying AE analysis Resonate facilitates increased productivity in battery research

Integrating Light Novel as a Storytelling Component in Board Game : A deductive thematic analysis of its effect on player experience according to the Game Experience Questionnaire

    No full text
This research explores the integration of a light novel as a storytelling component in The Long Journey, a narrative-driven board game. Four participants familiar with the game took part in a playtesting session using a 12- to 16-page light novel prototype developed by the research team, followed by semi-structured interviews where they shared their experiences. Their responses were analyzed under the framework of the Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ). Deductive thematic analysis was applied to discuss player experience within each GEQ dimension, and to identify the benefits and limitations of the light novel format as a storytelling component in board games. Principal findings suggest that the light novel elicited more favorable response in terms of immersion and positive affect experiences; on the other hand, criticisms were raised regarding its pacing issues and detraction from the game’s social interaction elements. These drawbacks contributed to increased negative affect, tension, and reduced flow. This research is largely limited by the small, non-diverse participant group and by adapting the GEQ from its quantitative format into a qualitative tool, which restricts comparability with other research. Future studies should involve more diverse participants and consider adopting a more empirical approach to the GEQ
