Imitation as a tool for research and assessment of early language development: A pilot study of word and non-word repetition
Get PDFLa habilidad para repetir palabras y pseudopalabras como medida de la memoria fonológica correlaciona con el desarrollo léxico y constituye un buen marcador clínico de los trastornos graves del lenguaje. Sin embargo, la mayor parte de las investigaciones al respecto han sido realizadas con niños hablantes de inglés y/o mayores de 4 años de edad. En este artículo se presenta una tarea de repetición de este tipo adecuada a niños españoles de 2 a 4 años. Se presentaron un conjunto de 18 palabras y 18 pseudopalabras emparejadas y manipuladas sistemáticamente en su longitud y estructura prosódica a un total de 53 niños. Las palabras (monosílabas, bisílabas y trisílabas) se seleccionaron teniendo en cuenta su frecuencia en el lenguaje infantil y se tomaron de la lista de vocabulario de la versión española de los Inventarios MacArthur-Bates de Desarrollo Comunicativo. Se administró también una prueba de vocabulario receptivo. La tarea de repetición de palabras y pseudopalabras tuvo altos niveles de respuesta, incluso con los niños más pequeños. Los resultados muestran sensibilidad de la tarea a la edad, al tipo de estímulo y a la longitud del ítem. Asimismo, el rendimiento muestra una relación significativa con el rendimiento en la prueba de vocabulario. Las implicaciones del conjunto de los resultados son discutidas en relación con los planteamientos teóricos actualmente vigentes sobre la polémica cuestión de qué miden este tipo de tareas. Se resaltará también el valor de estas tareas como método de evaluación de las habilidades fono-léxicas tempranas en lengua española.The ability to repeat words and pseudowords as a measure of phonological memory clearly correlates with lexical development and it is a good marker of serious clinical speech disorders. However, most part of research has been done with children who speak English and /or are over the age of 4 years old. This paper presents a repetition task of this type, suitable to Spanish children from 2 to 4 years of age. 18 words and 18 paired pseudowords, systematically manipulated in its prosodic structure and length, were presented to a total of 53 children. The words (monosyllabic, bisyllabic and trisyllabic) were selected based on their frequency in children's speech and were taken from the vocabulary list of the Spanish version of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories. A test of receptive vocabulary was also administered. The repetition task produced high levels of response, even with younger children. The results show sensitivity of the task to the age, the type of stimulus and the items length. The performance shows a significant relationship with performance in the vocabulary test. The implications of the overall results are discussed in relation to existing theoretical approaches and to the controversial question of what these types of tasks exactly measure. The value of these tasks as an assessment method of early phono-lexical skills in Spanish it is also highlighted
Procesamiento de argumentos en personas con afasia
Get PDFEn las personas con afasia se alteran diversos procesos lingüísticos. Entre las alteraciones más comunes tenemos aquellas que se producen en el procesamiento sintáctico, lo cual es evidente en el procesamiento de los argumentos. Investigaciones previas realizadas a sujetos con afasia reflejan un procesamiento deficiente de argumentos, lo cual se hace más evidente a medida que el número de argumentos aumenta. Se ha encontrado que mientras mayor es la complejidad en la estructura de la oración, los sujetos afásicos manifiestan mayores dificultades en el procesamiento de la misma. El presente estudio indaga en las dificultades que presentan los sujetos adultos con trastornos afásicos hablantes de español en el procesamiento de argumentos durante tareas de descripción. Este trabajo corrobora la evidencia de que los sujetos con afasia manifiestan un manejo deficiente en el procesamiento de argumentos en las tareas señaladas.Subjects with aphasia exhibit impairments in many linguistic processes. One of the most common problems they face lie at the syntactic processing level, particularly on the processing of arguments. In general terms, aphasic people exhibit more difficulties at the syntactic level as the sentences are more complex. Previous research on the production and understanding of arguments in aphasic subjects show that difficulties are notoriously more evident as the number of argument associated to a given verb increase. The aim of the current work is to obtain more evidence on difficulties experienced by subjects with aphasia on the processing of arguments in the context of a description task. Results corroborate previous evidence showing impaired processing of arguments
Consonant acquisition: a first approach to the distribution of errors in four positions in the word
Get PDFThe goal of this study is to describe the behavior of errors in two types of onsets (initial and intervocalic) and two types of codas (in the middle and end of the word) in order to determine if any of these positions are more prone to specific types of errors than the others.We have looked into the errors that are frequently produced in these four contexts during the acquisition of consonant sounds in the Catalan language. The data were taken from a study on the acquisition of consonants in Catalan, carried out on 90 children between the ages of 3 and 5 years from several kindergarten schools. The results do show that there are characteristic errors depending on the position within the word.El objetivo de este estudio es describir el comportamiento de los errores que se producen en dos tipos de ataques (inicial e intervocálico) y dos tipos de codas (medial y final de palabra) para determinar si estas posiciones son propensas a una tipología específica de errores. Con este fin, se han estudiado los errores que se producen habitualmente en estos cuatro contextos durante la adquisición de los sonidos consonánticos de la lengua catalana, en 90 niños de edades comprendidas entre 3 y 5 años, procedentes de diversos centros educativos. Indicadores fonorrespiratorios de normalidad y patología en la clínica vocal
Get PDFLa disfonía es una alteración de las cualidades de la voz. Estas cualidades pueden ser medidas y los valores obtenidos pueden aportar información relevante para el profesional clínico de la voz. Esta investigación pretende identificar las medidas más válidas en el estudio objetivo de la voz patológica y establecer valores que identifiquen a la población disfónica. Se ha estudiado la voz de 141 personas con alteraciones vocales y se ha comparado con un grupo control de 99 sujetos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran diferencias significativas en diversos parámetros y se pueden perfilar valores de corte en la frecuencia máxima (537 Hz.- Do4 en hombres y 667 Hz.- Mi4 en mujeres) así como en el Dysphonia Severity Index (3.70). La diversidad y variabilidad de los datos observados reclaman al clínico la necesidad de integrar los datos obtenidos con las medidas objetivas con sus percepciones cualitativas, las valoraciones subjetivas del propio paciente y las informaciones obtenidas por las imágenes laríngeas.Dysphonia is a disorder of the voice qualities. These qualities can be measured and these values may provide relevant information for clinical professionals of voice. This research aims to identify the most valid measures in the study of pathological voice and set cut-off values to identify the population hoarse. We have studied the voice of 141 people with vocal disorders and compared with a control group of 99 subjects. The results show significant differences in several parameters and values can shape cut-off in the maximum frequency (537 Hz - C4 in men and 667 Hz - Mi4 in women) and in the Dysphonia Severity Index (3.70). The diversity and variability observed of the data call to the clinician to integrate the data the objective measures with their qualitative perceptions, subjective assessments of the patient and the information obtained by the laryngeal images
El discurso ensayístico hispanoamericano actual, entre lo nacional y lo transnacional
Get PDFAny reflection on the current-day Spanish-American essayistic discourse entails a rethinking of the literary historiography and a questioning of the critical and theoretical framework used in order to analyze national literatures. My reflection sets out from the idea that the essay in Spanish America is more a discursive strategy than a literary genre. The essayistic discourse can be seen as an opportunity to cross methodological, disciplinary and geographical boundaries (a discursive manifestation of the transnational), but without losing rigor nor creativity. I argue that this discourse enables us to pass from the strictly academic to the public realm, to recuperate spaces in the public opinion, to revitalize the critique in the media, and to establish new discursive relations between the national and the transnational.Reflexionar sobre el discurso ensayístico hispanoamericano en el momento actual conlleva, de entrada, repensar la historiografía literaria y cuestionar buena parte del instrumental crítico y teórico que se ha utilizado para analizar nuestras literaturas partiendo de la noción misma de literatura nacional. Mi reflexión parte de la idea de que el ensayo, en el caso hispanoamericano, es más una estrategia discursiva que un género literario (de ahí que prefiera utilizar la forma “discurso ensayístico”). El ensayo podría ser una oportunidad para cruzar fronteras metodológicas, disciplinarias y geográficas (una manifestación discursiva de lo trasnacional), pero sin perder rigor ni creatividad. El ensayo facilita también pasar del ámbito académico al público, recuperar espacios en la opinión pública, revitalizar la crítica en los medios de comunicación, y establecer nuevas relaciones discursivas entre lo nacional y lo trasnacional
El ensayo de identidad nacional mexicano en la época posnacional: Mexicanidad y posmexicanidad en Jorge Castañeda y Heriberto Yépez
Get PDFIn spite of the critiques aimed in recent decades at the tradition of Mexican writings on national identity, there has been a resurgence in the last few years of books on the topic of the Mexican character. This essay examines works by Jorge Castañeda and Heriberto Yépez that are a part of this new trend. I argue, however, that these authors do not offer a simple return to an earlier tradition of writings of national identity. Although Castañeda and Yépez reject the view that identities are mere inventions, arguing that the Mexican national character has a real existence, they also maintain that this national character is an obstacle to the nation’s progress and therefore needs to be overcome, rather than celebrated. In this way, their works combine a national with a post-national perspective.A pesar de las críticas dirigidas en las últimas décadas a la tradición del ensayo de identidad nacional mexicano, se observa en años recientes un resurgimiento de libros sobre el tema del carácter mexicano. Este ensayo analiza textos de Jorge Castañeda y Heriberto Yépez que forman parte de esta nueva tendencia en la cultura mexicana. Sin embargo, estos autores no representan un simple retorno a la tradición del ensayo de interrogación nacional. Aunque Castañeda y Yépez rechazan la idea según la cual la identidad nacional mexicana es una mera invención, argumentando que esta identidad tiene una existencia real, también afirman que el carácter mexicano constituye un obstáculo para el progreso del país, por lo cual debe ser superado, en vez de alabado. De este modo, sus libros combinan perspectivas nacionales y posnacionales

Get PDFEn el presente artículo se defiende la idea de que la escritura del poema en prosa en César Vallejo no se realiza de una manera caótica o desestructurada, sino que, por el contrario, existe una cierta sistematización o regularidad en este proceso, que tiene que ver con la distribución estructural de los elementos narrativos y los poéticos, situados al inicio y al final de los poemas respectivamente. Según esta idea, se estudian algunas de las formas en las que lo poético se inserta en lo narrativo, provocando como resultado la ambigüedad característica de este tipo de composiciones.This article focuses on the idea that the writing of the prose poem in Cesar Vallejo is not performed in a chaotic or amorphous way, but, on the contrary, there is a certain systematization or regularity in this process, which has to do with the structural distribution of the narrative and the poetic elements, located at the beginning and the end of the poems respectively. According to this idea, the article explores some of the ways in which these poetic elements are inserted in the narrative discourse, causing as a result the ambiguous nature of this type of compositions

El propósito de este artículo es confirmar esta hipótesis, analizando recursos de orden retórico, hermenéutico y crítico en dos poemas del poeta colombiano Álvaro Mutis. Para ello se rastrea la presencia del sociolecto del arte en los poemas, se examina la superposición de lo crítico y valorativo sobre lo descriptivo y se analizan los contextos estéticos que enmarcan los dos cuadros a los que aluden los poemas.Studies on poetic ekphrasis have remarked the elusive nature of its representation. The article intends to confirm this assumption showing rhetoric, hermeneutic and critic resources in two poems by Colombian poet Álvaro Mutis.
