Get PDFIn the Greco–Roman religion, gods could listen or not a prayer, attend or not the ritual, but usually there were not problems if the ritual was made correctly, without impurity that could invalidate it and the worshiper invoked gods appropriately. However, in a magical praxis in which the magical practitioner acted for selfish aims outside from normalized religious boundaries, the collaboration of the gods was not guaranteed. Thus, how do magicians got the divine cooperation? My aim in this paper will be to illustrate the rich variety of rhetorical resources and persuasive strategies used in the dialogue with gods by magical practitioners in order to obtain the divine help.En la religión greco-romana, los dioses podían escuchar o no la plegaria, acudir o no al ritual, pero generalmente su colaboración estaba garantizada si el ritual se realizaba correctamente, libre de impurezas que lo invalidaran y los dioses eran apropiadamente invocados. Sin embargo, en el contexto de la práctica mágica, donde el agente ritual –el mago o la persona que realiza el rito mágico– actuaba movido por intereses egoístas fuera de un contexto religiosamente sancionado, la colaboración divina no estaba garantizada. Entonces, ¿cómo se lograba esta? Get PDFThis article presents a study and the first critical edition and translation into a modern language of a Latin letter that Lucius Flaminius, a Sicilian poet living in our country and teaching at the University of Salamanca between 1504 and 1509. This letter was addressed to the Spanish grammarian Antonio de Nebrija on 23 May 1504 and published in Salamanca on 31 May of that same year at the end of the commentary by Nebrija to the Persius’ ‘Satires’. The importance of this epistle lies in the fact that it is a key piece to reconstruct on the one hand the controversy between Antonio de Nebrija and his supporters and opponents in Salamanca and on the other hand the events that occurred at the University between November 1503 and May 1504.El presente artículo ofrece un estudio y la primera edición crítica y traducción a una lengua moderna de una epístola latina que Lucio Flaminio, poeta siciliano afincado en nuestro país y profesor en la Universidad de Salamanca entre 1504 y 1509, dirigió al gramático español Antonio de Nebrija el 23 de mayo de 1504. La carta fue publicada en Salamanca el 31 de mayo del mismo año en las páginas finales del comentario de Nebrija a las Sátiras de Persio. La importancia de esta carta radica en el hecho de que constituye una pieza clave más para reconstruir, por un lado, la polémica en torno a la relación de Nebrija con sus defensores y detractores de Salamanca y, por otro, los sucesos que acontecieron en la Universidad entre los meses de noviembre de 1503 y mayo de 1504

Get PDFThe aim of this paper is to explore the grammatical category of person in Italian, taking into consideration social deixis in the communication that takes place through Facebook. Social deixis is understood here as various means by which information of social nature is coded and grammaticalizedin a language. Such information concerns the situational context of the communication, social roles of its participants and their reciprocal relations (cfr. Levinson 1993: 83). The analysis focuses on phenomena that are related to social deixis such as personal pronouns, possessive pronouns and adjectives, verb forms, honorific titles, diminutives. Facebook has been chosen as a source of authentic material due to its expansion in Italian society, which allows a fairly detailed exam if heterogeneity of Facebook users is considered (in terms of age, sex, level of education, social group). Precisely, the paper takes into consideration 155 comments published to the profiles of three important Italian public figures: Sergio Mattarella, Matteo Renzi and Roberto Saviano. Means of communication offered by Facebook facilitate production of everyday, colloquial language, which permits insight into natural and spontaneous realizations of social deixis. Their decoding helps to highlight the changes that affect the rules of politeness in today’s communication. The phenomena of growing informality or infringement of good manners are caused, or at least reinforced, by the arrival of new means of communication such as Facebook, but they simply illustrate a certain tendency, already present in contemporary Italian.Their decodification helps to highlight the changes that affect the rules of politeness in today’s communication. The phenomena of growing informality or infringement of good manners are caused, or at least reinforced, by the arrival of new means of communication such as Facebook, but they simply illustrate a certain tendency, already present in contemporary Italian.Con questo articolo si vuole esplorare il dominio della categoria grammaticale di persona nella lingua italiana, prendendo in considerazione la deissi sociale nella comunicazione che avviene tramite Facebook. La deissi sociale, intesa come i modi in cui una lingua codifica e grammaticalizza i tratti del contesto situazionale, i ruoli sociali dei partecipanti all’atto comunicativo e i loro rapporti reciproci (Levinson 1993: 83) viene esaminata tramite un’attenta analisi di vari fenomeni linguistici che la esprimono: pronomi personali, pronomi e aggettivi possessivi, forme verbali, titoli onorifici, diminutivi, ecc. Per i fini di questa ricerca come fonte del materiale d’analisi è stato scelto Facebook per motivo della sua diffusione nella società italiana, il che consente un esame assai ampio, considerata l’eterogeneità degli utenti di Facebook sotto l’aspetto dell’età, del sesso, dell’istruzione e dello strato sociale di appartenenza. Si sono analizzati 155 commenti pubblicati sotto i post sui profili di tre importanti personaggi pubblici: Sergio Mattarella, Matteo Renzi e Roberto Saviano. Siamo convinti che le modalità di comunicazione offerte da Facebook fanno sì che ci si manifesti la lingua comune, colloquiale in maniera libera, perciò si possono osservare delle realizzazioni naturali e spontanee della deissi sociale. Crediamo che la loro decodifica possa permettere di evidenziare i mutamenti a cui sono sottoposte le regole di cortesia linguistica nella comunicazione di oggi. I fenomeni relativi alla sempre maggiore informalità, al mancato rispetto delle norme di savoir vivre sono provocati, o almeno rafforzati, tra l’altro, dall’avvento dei nuovi mezzi di comunicazione come Facebook, ma illustrano anche le tendenze già presenti nell’italiano contemporaneo

La trama dei punti di vista che s’irradiano nelle opere successive è il tema delle altre sezioni, dove sono messe in evidenza le occasioni pubbliche e private che forgiano la particolare forma espressiva e la magnetica memorabilità dello stile di Risi. La novità di questo percorso, in parte già noto, sta nel presentare l’autore seguendo il filo di un’inedita documentazione epistolare e iconografica, una “corrispondenza” d’intrecci e motivi che talvolta diventano ravvicinati, perché sarà la parola di Risi a irrompere dai fogli di un carteggio, mostrando come in uno specchio il suo profilo di uomo e di poeta.The first section of this text analyzes the “experiences” that give rise to Nelo Risi’s work. The remaining sections first examine the weaving of perspectives in his subsequent works, and secondly underscore the public and private occasions which shape the particular expressiveness and magnetic memorability of Risi’s style. This study is original in that it introduces the author by following the thread of an unpublished epistolary and iconographical documentation, a “correspondence” of intertwined strands and motifs that sometimes converge to each other.
