Entrepreneurship Centers: A Qualitative Study on Their Mission, Vision, and Support Services for Veteran Entrepreneurship in the United States
This research evaluates how Entrepreneurship Centers (EC) function within veteran friendly Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) located in the United States (US) capital. It includes all 17 HEIs in Washington, DC. The region stands out because of its veteran population and unique combination of federal agencies, policymakers, HEIs and veteran support organizations. The study focuses on evaluating ECs' educational quality and effectiveness for veteran entrepreneurship promotion as well as determining their added value and impact on entrepreneurship initiatives. Content analysis was used to evaluate the operation of ECs in veteran friendly HEI systems through their mission and vision statements and their programs that support inclusion and entrepreneurial opportunities for veterans. Data collection and analysis involves initial reading followed by open coding and thematic analysis of information from the university's website including ECs website and US Department of Education data. The research findings show that certain ECs at veteran friendly HEIs in Washington, DC offer comprehensive veteran support through programs that combine mentoring with financial assistance. Several ECs show minimal interest with little direct connection to veteran welfare.</p

Restricted slowly growing digits for infinite iterated function systems
We prove that the Hausdorff dimension stays the same no matter how slowly the function φ grows. One of the consequences of our result is the recent work of Takahasi (2023), which only dealt with regular continued fraction expansions. We further extend our result to slowly growing products of (not necessarily consecutive) digits.</p
Social network botnet attack mitigation model for cloud
Online Social Network (OSN) botnet attacks pose a growing threat to the cloud environment and reduce the services’ availability and reliability for users by launching distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on crucial servers in the cloud. These attacks involve the deployment of sophisticated botnets that exploit the interconnected nature of social networks to identify targets, exploit vulnerabilities, and launch attacks. The prevalence and impact of these botnet-driven attacks have recently been studied. Although the detection of these botnet attacks is still a challenging process, it remains crucial to gain a comprehensive understanding of and evaluate the best defense strategies against botnet attacks. This evaluation can be further utilized to formulate effective defense plans to mitigate the impact of such botnet attacks. In this paper, we first investigate the properties of OSN botnet attack stages that eventually lead to launching DDoS attacks toward a cloud system. Then, we formalize a defensive model using a sequential game model to analyze both the attacker’s and defenders’ best equilibrium strategies for the proposed botnet attack scenario. Moreover, we formulate optimal strategies for the defender against various attack strategies. Our experiments reveal the best defense strategies against various attack rates to maintain cloud functionality. Finally, we discuss possible countermeasures for these OSN botnet threats.</p

The influence of the buy-now-pay-later payment mode on consumer spending decisions
Buy-now-pay-later, a rapidly growing payment mode, facilitates short-term deferral of payment by several installments without interest or fees. Although consumers and payment providers claim that buy-now-pay-later influences spending, existing research does not fully explain how or why. Purchase transaction data and a series of experiments demonstrate greater consumer spending with buy-now-pay-later compared to other payment modes. This research contributes an underlying process that explains how and why buy-now-pay-later increases consumer spending. The presentation of installment prices (i.e., the amount paid per installment) with buy-now-pay-later lowers consumers’ perception of purchase expensiveness, which increases spending. However, presenting installment prices does not affect spending with other payment modes. Furthermore, the number of installments, the magnitude of the first installment, and the presence of the installment price moderate the effect of buy-now-pay-later, demonstrating how installment prices affect consumer spending. Taken together, the findings provide opportunities for retailers to increase consumers’ spending and actionable insights for policymakers to protect consumers.</p
