    Enhancing woman-centred care for pregnant women who have experienced a previous traumatic birth: An Australian Modified Delphi Study

    Background: Childbirth is often characterised as a time of joy. However, some women have a traumatic birth experience, resulting in ongoing psychological symptoms of distress. This can affect women's mental and physical health in subsequent pregnancies; however, a woman-centred approach has the potential to heal. This study aims to design a means to identify and determine the elements important to creating a woman-centred care pathway in the next pregnancy. Methods: A modified Delphi study was undertaken, informed by a scoping review that identified common needs and care gaps for women with a traumatic birth experience. An expert panel was purposively recruited in Australia, comprising women with traumatic birth experience (n = 9) and multidisciplinary health care professionals (n = 9). Over four iterative online rounds, questions and proposals on developing a screening tool and elements to improve women's care experience were put to the panel. Consensus was agreed at 75 % of aligned votes. Qualitative data were analysed using content analysis. Results: A screening tool was developed by consensus incorporating a question on women's previous birth experience and a validated tool on fear of birth. Eleven elements that would facilitate a woman-centred approach following a traumatic birth were identified, and a woman-centred individualised maternity care planning guide was co-designed. Conclusion: The modified Delphi process achieved consensus on a care pathway to identify women early in their subsequent pregnancy and a woman-centred individualised maternity care planning guide. A proof-of-concept of this woman-centred pathway will be tested in an antenatal clinic setting in Melbourne, Australia.</p

    Excerpt from Introduction:Each year, hundreds of thousands of children worldwide are admitted to a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) because of critical illness or life-threatening injury. These children are admitted from diverse family units, where their wellbeing is closely intertwined with other members of their family, including parents, carers, siblings, extended family, and friends [1]. Within the PICU, we care for these children under the philosophy of family centred care (FCC), where the whole family is viewed as being included in, and impacted by, the experience [2,3]. However, in reality PICU is often an overwhelming and hostile environment for children and their families, and is not always welcoming of wider family inclusion or presence [3,4].</p

The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is a risk marker for T2DM and cardiovascular disease on the basis of lipid profiles.     The future of the Pacific Islands present an ecological challenge, with rising sea levels and extreme weather events coupled with growing maritime presence, impacting supply chains and putting access to food, water and health at risk.     New braided knowledge understandings of an Aboriginal earth ring and biik wurrdha (Jacksons Creek, Sunbury) on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, southeastern Australia

    Aboriginal rings are circular, earth (or rock) features that are preserved at increasingly fewer locations across eastern Australia today. While previous studies indicate these rings are sacred locations of ceremony, little is documented from cultural values and landscape perspectives–particularly in southeastern Australia. This study applies a braided knowledge approach to the study of an Aboriginal earth ring, and the broader biik wurrdha (Jacksons Creek, Sunbury) landscape, on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country in southeastern Australia. It braids together knowledges documented during a Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung-led cultural values study of the biik wurrdha landscape to understand the cultural context of the ring, and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung-led archaeological analysis of 166 stone artefacts excavated at the ring in 1979 to investigate past activities by Woi-wurrung speaking people at this location. The results bring together Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people’s understandings of the biik wurrda cultural landscape and archaeological evidence for cultural fire, knapping, movement, trampling, and tool-use by their Ancestors at the ring. The results provide a deeper understanding of Aboriginal ring and landscape occupation in southeastern Australia following a braided knowledge approach.</p

    Not All Bodies are Created Equal: Use of Generative AI in Physical Education

    Physical Education (PE) is a process that uses physical activity to help people acquire skills, fitness, knowledge, and attitudes that contribute to their optimal development and well-being. Curriculum-based PE provides children with a planned, sequential and standards-based program of curricula and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge and behaviours for active living, physical fitness, self-efficacy and emotional intelligence. Enhancing a child’s motor skill and physical abilities in the absence of generative AI involves the implementation of various conventional methods and strategies. Due to difficulties with children’s attendance and engagement in PE combined with varying levels of teachers’ teaching ability and knowledge of the scientific principles of human movement, the knowledge and skills that children learn in PE can be limited. Children can spend a lot of time and energy on physical exercise, but if professional theory and understanding is lacking, the final exercise effect may not be satisfactory and even may cause harm. The integration of generative AI in physical activity and sports-specific training in education has emerged as a possible approach to enhancing a child’s development in PE, optimizing training strategies and providing personalised insights for both children and the teacher. The strategic use of generative AI can empower both teacher and children through a ‘learner as a leader’ paradigm. There has been limited attention to meaningful pedagogy PE learning in the generative AI community so far, which is likely due to the lack of appropriate technological support available for movement detection at low cost and with low intrusion. Despite this, generative AI-powered tools could significantly enhance meaning and engagement with both PE and physical activity by identifying patterns and correlations within the data, allowing for the personalized creation of training plans and optimized lesson schedules. This article looks at the rapidly evolving technological resource of Generative AI and how it can be used effectively and ethically within a physical educator’s role and the overall teaching profession.</p
