    The impact of narcissism on entrepreneurial intentions: The roles of entrepreneurial alertness, entrepreneurial passion, and internal locus of control

    This study investigates the effects of narcissism on entrepreneurial intentions through entrepreneurial alertness, entrepreneurial passion, and internal locus of control. The data for our research model is collected from a sample of 422 business students from nine universities in Vietnam. The findings from structural equation modelling reveal that the relationship between narcissism and entrepreneurial intentions was fully mediated by both entrepreneurial alertness and entrepreneurial passion. Moreover, internal locus of control is found to moderate the relationships between entrepreneurial alertness and entrepreneurial passion and entrepreneurial intentions. Our study provides important theoretical and practical implications.</p

    Interventions that aim to increase social participation through recreation or leisure activity for adults with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury: a scoping review

    Purpose: Social isolation and reduced social participation are common after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Developing interventions that aim to increase social participation through recreation or leisure activities continues to be challenging. This scoping review was conducted to provide an overview of interventions used to increase social participation through in-person recreation or leisure activity for adults with moderate to severe TBI living in the community. Methods: Using the Arksey and O'Malley framework, a scoping review of the literature published from 2005 to 2023 was conducted across four databases: Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Scopus. Quality appraisals were conducted for included studies. Results: Following the removal of duplicates, 10,056 studies were screened and 52 were retained for full-text screening. Seven papers were included in the final review. Studies varied with respect to the type of intervention and program outcomes. The interpretation was impeded by study quality, with only two studies providing higher levels of evidence. Barriers and facilitators to successful program outcomes were identified. Conclusions: Few studies with interventions focused on increasing social participation in leisure or recreation activity were identified. Further research incorporating mixed methods and longitudinal design to evaluate effectiveness over time is needed to build the evidence base for increasing social participation through leisure activity.</p

    Development of a sports nutrition knowledge questionnaire for elite track and field athletes

    Background: Satisfactory nutrition knowledge among athletes is important to encourage proper dietary habits to overcome deficiencies and enhance sports performance. Identifying knowledge gaps in sports nutrition is essential for improving athletes' understanding through a tool that evaluates both general nutrition knowledge (GNK) and sports nutrition knowledge (SNK). Objective: This study aims to develop the Athletic Sports Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire (A-SNKQ) specifically for Sri Lankan track and field athletes. Methods: The development of the A-SNKQ followed an extensive step-wise approach. Firstly, a systematic literature review was conducted on existing SNK questionnaires for athletes. Secondly, sports nutrition guidelines were incorporated into the questionnaire. Thirdly, information from local literature was gathered to ensure contextual relevance. Lastly, a qualitative study involving key athletic stakeholders was conducted to gain cultural insights. Results: The final version of the questionnaire consists of 32 questions in 12 sub-sections under two main sections: GNK section covers macronutrients, micronutrients, energy balance, hydration, and weight management, SNK section addresses carbohydrate loading, pre-training, training and post-training meals, sports supplements, supplement label reading, isotonic drinks, doping, and relative energy deficiency syndrome in sports. Conclusion:  A-SNKQ is a culturally tailored questionnaire which includes 32 questions across two major sections, designed to assess the GNK and SNK among track and field athletes in Sri Lanka. This was developed through a systematic literature review, examination of nutrition guidelines, exploration of local literature, and insights from a qualitative study with athletic stakeholders. </p

    Novel formylpeptide receptor 1/2 agonist limits hypertension-induced cardiovascular damage

    AIMS: Formylpeptide receptors (FPRs) play a critical role in the regulation of inflammation, an important driver of hypertension-induced end-organ damage. We have previously reported that the biased FPR small-molecule agonist, compound17b (Cmpd17b), is cardioprotective against acute, severe inflammatory insults. Here, we reveal the first compelling evidence of the therapeutic potential of this novel FPR agonist against a longer-term, sustained inflammatory insult, i.e. hypertension-induced end-organ damage. The parallels between the murine and human hypertensive proteome were also investigated.  METHODS AND RESULTS: The hypertensive response to angiotensin II (Ang II, 0.7 mg/kg/day, s.c.) was attenuated by Cmpd17b (50 mg/kg/day, i.p.). Impairments in cardiac and vascular function assessed via echocardiography were improved by Cmpd17b in hypertensive mice. This functional improvement was accompanied by reduced cardiac and aortic fibrosis and vascular calcification. Cmpd17b also attenuated Ang II-induced increased cardiac mitochondrial complex 2 respiration. Proteomic profiling of cardiac and aortic tissues and cells, using label-free nano-liquid chromatography with high-sensitivity mass spectrometry, detected and quantified ∼6000 proteins. We report hypertension-impacted protein clusters associated with dysregulation of inflammatory, mitochondrial, and calcium responses, as well as modified networks associated with cardiovascular remodelling, contractility, and structural/cytoskeletal organization. Cmpd17b attenuated hypertension-induced dysregulation of multiple proteins in mice, and of these, ∼110 proteins were identified as similarly dysregulated in humans suffering from adverse aortic remodelling and cardiac hypertrophy.  CONCLUSION: We have demonstrated, for the first time, that the FPR agonist Cmpd17b powerfully limits hypertension-induced end-organ damage, consistent with proteome networks, supporting development of pro-resolution FPR-based therapeutics for treatment of systemic hypertension complications.</p

    COVID-19 vaccine uptake in individuals with functional difficulty, disability, and comorbid conditions: insights from a national survey in Bangladesh

    BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccine uptake among individuals with disabilities is crucial for safeguarding their health and well-being. However, the extent of vaccine uptake among this group remains largely unknown in low- and middle-income countries. This study aims to assess the COVID-19 vaccine uptake among persons with functional difficulty, disability and/or comorbidity in Bangladesh and their associated factors. METHODS: Data from 9,370 respondents extracted from the 2021 National Household Survey on Persons with Disability were analysed. The outcome variable was the uptake of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (yes, no). Key explanatory variables included the presence of disability (yes, no), comorbidity (yes, no), and both comorbidity and disability (yes, no) among persons with functional difficulty. The relationship between the outcome and explanatory variables was determined using mixed-effects multilevel logistic regressions adjusted for covariates. RESULTS: The overall uptake of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine among persons with functional difficulty was 57.37%, among persons with functional difficulty and disability was 48.63% and among persons with functional difficulty and single (57.85%) or multi-comorbidity (60.37%). Compared to the respondents with functional difficulty only, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of not receiving any dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for individuals with both functional difficulty and disability was 1.37 (95% CI, 1.22-1.53), and for individuals with functional difficulty, disability and one or more comorbid conditions was 1.30 (95% CI, 1.15-1.47). The aOR of receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine among individuals with functional difficulty and one or more comorbid conditions was significantly higher than among those with functional difficulty only. CONCLUSION: In Bangladesh, COVID-19 vaccine uptake was relatively low among individuals with disabilities. The existing COVID-19 vaccine rollout programs and similar future programs should prioritise individuals with disabilities and include targeted strategies to reach them

    Aboriginal youth mentoring: a pathway to leadership

    Abstract: This article shares findings from evaluating a mentoring programme for Aboriginal youth on Yorta Yorta (an Aboriginal Tribal nation, north-eastern Victoria and Southern New South Wales, Australia) Country. This work is positioned in First Nations worldviews that are relational and require deep listening to youth, mentors, Elders, Country, and Ancestors. Applying a qualitative participatory action research design, methods involved attending camps on Country and research Yarning Circles. The findings demonstrate that Aboriginal mentoring programmes need to be led in their delivery and evaluation by First Nations peoples. This ensures that the programmes are culturally embedded in First Nations worldviews and that important interpretations of meanings are not overlooked. On Country experiences are a place for healing and learning. Country is a stakeholder in Aboriginal mentoring programmes. A trusting mentoring relationship creates a space where youth become part of an Aboriginal community, and where they feel strong in their identity. </p

    Dual attention based fusion network for MCI Conversion Prediction

    Alzheimer's disease (AD) severely impacts the lives of many patients and their families. Predicting the progression of the disease from the early stage of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is of substantial value for treatment, medical research and clinical trials. In this paper, we propose a novel dual attention network to classify progressive MCI (pMCI) and stable MCI (sMCI) using both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neurocognitive metadata. A 3D CNN ShuffleNet V2 model is used as the network backbone to extract MRI image features. Then, neurocognitive metadata is used to guide the spatial attention mechanism to steer the model to focus attention on the most discriminative regions of the brain. In contrast to traditional fusion methods, we propose a ViT based self attention fusion mechanism to fuse the neurocognitive metadata with the 3D CNN feature maps. The experimental results show that our proposed model achieves an accuracy, AUC, and sensitivity of 81.34%, 0.874, and 0.85 respectively using 5-fold cross validation evaluation. A comprehensive experimental study shows our proposed approach significantly outperforms all previous methods for MCI progression classification. In addition, an ablation study shows both fusion methods contribute to the high final performance

    The Application of Australian Rights Protections to the Use of Hepatitis C Notification Data to Engage People 'Lost to Follow Up'

    Hepatitis C is a global public health threat, affecting 56 million people worldwide. The World Health Organization has committed to eliminating hepatitis C by 2030. Although new treatments have revolutionised the treatment and care of people with hepatitis C, treatment uptake has slowed in recent years, drawing attention to the need for innovative approaches to reach elimination targets. One approach involves using existing notifiable disease data to contact people previously diagnosed with hepatitis C. Within these disease surveillance systems, however, competing tensions exist, including protecting individual rights to privacy and autonomy, and broader public health goals. We explore these issues using hepatitis C and Australia's legislative and regulatory frameworks as a case study. We examine emerging uses of notification data to contact people not yet treated, and describe some of the ethical dilemmas associated with the use and non-use of this data and the protections that exist to preserve individual rights and public health. We reveal weaknesses in rights protections and processes under Australian public health and human rights legislation and argue for consultation with and involvement of affected communities in policy and intervention design before notification data is used to increase hepatitis C treatment coverage

Zaremba conjectured that this should hold for (Formula presented.). In 1986, Niederreiter proved Zaremba's conjecture for numbers of the form (Formula presented.) with (Formula presented.) and for (Formula presented.) with (Formula presented.). In this paper, we prove that for each number (Formula presented.), there exists (Formula presented.), coprime to (Formula presented.), such that all of the partial quotients in the continued fraction of (Formula presented.) are bounded by (Formula presented.), where (Formula presented.) is the radical of an integer number, that is, the product of all distinct prime numbers dividing (Formula presented.). In particular, this means that Zaremba's conjecture holds for numbers (Formula presented.) of the form (Formula presented.) with (Formula presented.), generalizing Neiderreiter's result. Our result also improves upon the recent result by Moshchevitin, Murphy and Shkredov on numbers of the form (Formula presented.), where (Formula presented.) is an arbitrary prime and (Formula presented.) is sufficiently large
