The efficacy of online jigsaw puzzling for mental well‐being in older adults: A pilot study
Objectives: The aim of the present research was to test the feasibility of a randomised controlled trial comparing five consecutive days of regular online jigsaw puzzling (JP) against a no‐treatment control group in improving mental well‐being outcomes in older adults. Methods: Eighteen older adults (65–80 years) were randomly assigned to either the JP (9) or control (9) group and completed a range of mental health and well‐being measures for five consecutive days. We assessed recruitment rates, completion rates and participants' experiences of the intervention. Results: Recruitment issues meant that 18 of the 32 intended participants took part in the trial. All participants completed the trial. Qualitative analysis indicated that participants experienced the JP intervention as accepted, with indications of enhanced enjoyment and self‐esteem at study completion. Conclusion: The present pilot study indicates that testing the efficacy of JP is feasible. A full‐scale clinical trial of this intervention should be considered, which can determine the efficacy of the JP intervention

"Creative subtitling as film-transformative practice: from immersion to amazement in Edgar Pêra’s The baron"
In this article, I examine creative subtitling as a cultural practice whose significance exceeds its use value as merely an enhanced variety of subtitling. The article’s main argument is that creative subtitling transforms the films that contain it by expanding further on their creative ideas, by foregrounding these films’ constructedness, and by embedding new layers of self-awareness in them. I begin the analysis by critiquing some recent studies on creative subtitling for downplaying the part of creativity in favour of a reductive conceptualization of translation as meaning transfer. I then turn to Antoine Berman’s account of translation as reflexive practice whose ethical aim is to undo this conceptualization and turn our attention away from meaning and closer to the experience of language itself. Taking translational creativity to mean literally this transformative “undoing”, in the last section, I examine the case of the creative subtitles of Edgar Pêra’s film, The baron (2010). I argue that these subtitles expand further on the creative ideas of that film while simultaneously they “undo” it: they take us out of a state of immersion in the story and into a state of “amazement” at the experience of the language of cinema itself
The GHSR1a antagonist LEAP2 regulates islet hormone release in a sex-specific manner

LEAP2, a liver-derived antagonist for theghrelin receptor, GHSR1a, counteracts effects of ghrelin on appetite and energybalance. Less is known about its impact on blood glucose-regulating hormonesfrom pancreatic islets. Here we investigate whether acyl-ghrelin (AG) and LEAP2regulate islet hormone release in a cell type- and sex-specific manner. Hormonecontent from secretion experiments with isolated islets from male and femalemice was measured by radioimmunoassay and mRNA expression by qPCR. LEAP2enhanced insulin secretion in islets from males (p<0.01) but not females(p>0.2), whilst AG-stimulated somatostatin release was significantlyreversed by LEAP2 in males (p<0.001) but not females (p>0.2). Glucagonrelease was not significantly affected by AG and LEAP2. Ghsr1a, Ghrelin,Leap2, Mrap2, Mboat4 and Sstr3 islet mRNA expression did notdiffer between sexes whereas the SSTR3 antagonist MK4256 enhanced glucose-induced insulin secretion in islets from males only. In control male islets maintained without 17-betaoestradiol (E2),AG exerted an insulinostatic effect (p<0.05), with a trend towards reversalby LEAP2 (p=0.06). Both were abolished by 72h E2 pre-treatment (10 nmol/l,p>0.2). AG-stimulated somatostatin release was inhibited by LEAP2 fromcontrol (p<0.001) but not E2-treated islets (p>0.2). LEAP2and AG did not modulate insulin secretion from MIN6 beta cells and Mrap2was downregulated (P<0.05) and Ghsr1a upregulated (P<0.0001) inislets from Sst-/- mice. Our findings show that AG and LEAP2regulate insulin and somatostatin release in an opposing and sex-dependentmanner, which in males can be modulated by E2. We suggest that regulation ofSST release is a key starting point for understanding the role of GHSR1a inislet function and glucose metabolism.

Dadzine: Zine making with young fathers as a participatory and DIY approach to research
This article consider how zine making might be understood as a participatory and DIY approach to research through a focus on zine making workshops with young fathers. Drawing upon Fletcher's conceptualisation of ‘zine ethos’, zines’ DIY ethic, their democratic and participatory ideal and their transformative potential will each be considered reflexively, highlighting some of the ways these might be enacted through zine making in the context of research but also potentially constrained. This article extends existing empirical work concerning zines in the context of research and offers some fresh reflections on their value as a participatory and DIY approach to research
How to undertake metabolic risk monitoring in postpartum psychosis?
Postpartum psychosis can affect 1 per 1,000 women after giving birth and is a treatable mental health emergency (NHS 2023). In practice, women with postpartum psychosis exhibit symptoms such as altered behaviour, rapid speech, insomnia, heightened energy, racing thoughts, and withdrawal within the first two weeks post-delivery. Jairaj et al (2021) stress the urgency of treating women with postpartum psychosis promptly due to the risks posed to both the women and their children, including physical and emotional neglect, maternal suicide, and infanticide. Due to its rapid onset and serious risks, inpatient admission and immediate medication initiation are recommended. However, prescribing medication, especially to breastfeeding mothers, poses challenges due to concerns about potential harm
