What is the relationship between the extent of manualised practice and ‘effective’ Psychotherapy?
Process-figurational sociology and gender relations in sport management
In this chapter we outline how the principles of process-figurational sociology can facilitate a critical and theoretical approach to understanding gender relations in the diverse field of sport management. We highlight that while process-figurational sociology has been applied in areas of study related to sport management including sport policy and practice, organisation and structure of sport, sport tourism and marketing, none of these studies offer a direct and detailed analysis of gender relations and sport management. While there is existing research on gender, business and management taking a process-figurational theoretical approach this does not include sport, and the extensive research on gender and sport management does not draw on process-figurational sociology. In response to this we set out in this chapter how a process-figurational approach can provide a set of theoretical and conceptual resources for advancing knowledge about gender relations in sport management that may provide further critical scrutiny of and knowledge about issues of gender inequality and discrimination in the field
Greater resting state functional connectivity of the medial prefrontal cortex with the thalamus, caudate, and putamen in individuals who adhere to the Mediterranean style diets
Acceptability of a Self-Help Programme to Address the Use of Indecent Images of Children
The use of indecent images of children (IIOC) is of continued concern and growing prevalence. A multi-agency approach to this online crime is necessary, as it cannot be eradicated by law enforcement alone. Previous research has examined the pathways to offending for this population, and prevention strategies that could be used to deter offending in the first instance, or to stop behaviour once it has begun. The current qualitative study aimed to explore acceptability of a prevention initiative; a self-help focussed service (a website and calls with a professional). Semi-structured interviews with eight individuals who had accessed IIOC and engaged in this self-help focussed service were conducted. Transcripts were analysed using qualitative framework approach, using the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability (TFA) domains as deductive codes. All seven domains of the TFA were identified in the transcripts, indicating the applicability of the framework. Overall, participants reported mixed acceptability of and satisfaction with the self-help programme and calls with practitioners, but high perceived effectiveness in the service supporting them stop their illegal behaviours. The implications of the study are considered in line with improvements that could be made to this existing self-help prevention initiative
A class of widely linear quaternion blind equalisation algorithms
Quaternion adaptive filters have been applied extensively to model three- and four-dimensional phenomenain signal processing, but most of them require a known reference signal. In this paper, a class of widely linearquaternion-valued Godard (WL-QGodard) algorithms is derived, which include the widely linear quaternion-valued constant modulus algorithm (WL-QCMA) as a special case. The derived filter allows for signal recoveryoperations in the absence of reference signals to be performed directly in the quaternion domain, eliminatingthe need for transformation to real-valued vector algebras and preserving the advantages of the quaterniondivision algebra. Compared to state-of-the-art quaternion blind equalisation algorithms, the proposed algorithmmodels the signal transmission channel using the widely linear quaternion framework, which has moreextensive applicability and can better represent real-world scenarios. Furthermore, aided by GHR calculus, for the first time, we present a performance analysis framework for the QGodard algorithm and WL-QGodardalgorithms, which depicts the dynamic and their static convergence behaviours, overcoming the challengesposed by the noncommutative quaternion algebra and non-isomorphism between the quaternion equalisersand real-valued equalisers. Finally, simulation results over physically meaningful wireless communicationsignals indicate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed WL-QCMA, and the validity of the theoreticalperformance analysis
Architectural scenarios and sequential art: Comics as catalyst in architectural education between imagination and professional body requirements
This paper discusses the use of comics as a learning and teaching methodology in architecture in order to achieve key learning outcomes, professional body criteria and educational challenges by using sequential art and graphic narratives. Storytelling has always been an intrinsic part of architectural education and a valuable tool, alongside design artefacts, for architects to communicate with other disciplines, their clients and the public. In the last decade, the investigation of the links between architecture and comics is expanded and examines a variety of environments and explores different scales from the idea of the city to the examination of architectural history and tradition. The paper presents the development of projects in all stages of the architectural design process of a variety of student projects over three years in the Master in Architecture course. The paper presents the students’ learning process and engagement that occurred throughout given assignments, in order to support their understanding of place, function, conceptual approaches, environmental challenges and successful representation and communication. The paper argues that the introduction of sequential art and the new possibilities to visualise and materialise the imaginative is crucial for students at post-graduate level. It is a transformative tool that enables them, after a year in practice, to understand a complex process while re-discovering skills and re-learning the creative processes of architecture. Strong visuals combined with a contextualised narrative lead to a deeper understanding of the city and the human experience; demonstrating that the process of making comics is a cross-media learning strategy, always balancing things between dystopian futures and architectural happy ends
Κουήρ Χωρικές Νοηματοδοτήσεις: Σεξουαλικότητa και έκφραση φύλου στην Ελληνική πόλη - Εισαγωγή
The article provides an in-depth introduction to "Queer Spatialities" and the relationship between sexuality, gender expression, and the urban experience in Greece. It examines the legal, social, and cultural advancements in LGBTQ+ rights while highlighting the tensions between progressive and conservative narratives. The text discusses the role of queer theory in destabilizing heteronormative structures, focusing on urban spaces, daily life, and intersectionality. It critiques Western-centric approaches to LGBTQ+ issues and emphasizes the importance of local contexts. By addressing housing, employment, and urban activism, it underscores the complexities of queer experiences and the ongoing challenges within Greece's socio-political landscape
Developing Business and Work Ready Graduates: A Step-by-Step Guide
Developing Business and Work Readiness Graduates’ is your guide to mastering the art, and science of preparing yourself to succeed in employment or business. It is filled with information and tips from practitioners, employers, and academics, namely those working within the field of business and occupational psychology on what skills today’s graduates need in being successful. The book aims to encourage you to explore your level of business readiness and to reflect on where this figure stems from, what your strength areas are, and the ones you will need to work harder on to improve, if necessary. It is designed with the modern-day graduate in mind. Considering the current climate, modern day graduates are those who have been raised in a world where digitisation, AI, climate change, and equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the core of all that we do.This book introduces the concept of Business Readiness, and the 11 competencies that are thought to predict it. Firstly, you will be presented with the Business Graduate Work Readiness Scale (BGWRS), which is a 66-item assessment designed to assess your readiness for employment and business. You should complete this assessment/test before you move on. (Please note that the terms ‘assessment’ and ‘test’ are used interchangeably in this book
Is it Wrong to Buy Sex?: A Debate
Is it wrong for a man to buy sex from a woman? In this book, Holly Lawford‑Smith argues that it is wrong: commercial sex is quint‑essentially hierarchical sex, and it is wrong both to have, and to perpetuate a market in, hierarchical sex. Angie Pepper argues that it isn’t wrong: men are permitted to buy sex from those women who freely choose to sell it.Important but different interests are at stake in these two positions. According to the first, we should prioritize the interest of all women in securing a society that has achieved equality between the sexes, and we should make the changes needed to get there including prohibiting men from buying sex from women. In contrast, the second position prioritizes the protection of individuals’ rights to engage in consensual commercial sex exchanges and demands that we strive for gender equality without compromising these rights. The two authors debate the ethical issues involved in the decision to buy sex, arguing passionately for very different conclusions, in a way that is lively, constructive, and sure to leave readers with a lot to think abou
