    Adscope:search campaign scoping using relevance feedback

    Advertisers use online advertising for branding and direct response. To raise brand awareness, for example, they target a broad set of online users—whether or not these users have an intention to buy something is of secondary importance. In contrast, in direct response campaigns, advertisers are keenly interested in users’ intention to buy, so they specifically match up ads and search words accordingly (an ad for the search phrase, “how to create a social network for cheap,” for example, gives advertisers access to bargain hunters searching the Internet for tools to create social networks). To advertise on a search network, the sponsored ad networks for search engine queries, advertisers must determine a set of keywords to represent how users will search for their products in a search engine. Once these keywords are determined, the campaign can go live. Because it’s difficult in the beginning to know exactly which queries users will pose, advertisers often identify the key phrases that are most likely to occur in queries, as well as keywords that are broadly similar to queries. If an advertiser is certain that a specific keyword can be one of the queries, then that keyword can be used as is. It’s crucial to have the right set of keywords to target the right set of users. Otherwise, the campaign budget will be wasted on users who are less likely to convert into sales

    Memori:a serious game for diagnosing and treating visual sequential memory deficit

    Visual Sequential Memory (VSM) allows a person to perform tasks such as remembering letters, numbers, objects or shapes in the correct order. Its deficit can lead to challenges in one's personal life, including dyslexia and dyscalculia. Detecting Visual Sequential Memory Deficit (VSMD) is essential for those who suffer from its related consequences. But current clinical methods don't have a high rate of diagnosis, and also for treatment are limited to the few hours the person spends in the clinic. In this paper, we propose an Origami based Serious Game, called Memori, for the diagnosis and treatment of children with VSMD. We illustrate the rationale behind using Origami, the design process of our game, and its implementation

    Optically powered optical transmitter using a single light-emitting diode

    An optically powered optical transmitter using a single light-emitting diode (LED) is presented with a batteryless and low-power temperature sensor node. The commercially available AlGaAs LED has higher open-circuit voltage (∼1.2 V) than CMOS photodiode (∼0.5 V), such that an analog/mixed signal design in 0.18-μm process can be powered directly without losing efficiency to a sustained voltage boosting scheme. Higher voltage is needed only during brief transmissions. A scalable, inverter-based, switched capacitor voltage boosting transmitter drives the LED in short pulses with 93% electrical energy efficiency. Three consecutive pulses are sent as preamble symbol, two as logic 0 and one as logic 1. The microsystem features a VBE-based temperature sensor with a data-dependent partial conversion scheme to save energy. The sensor expends 1 nJ/full conversion at 5 kSa/s and 0.25 nJ/partial conversion at 20 kSa/s. The transmitter can serially output data at 1 nJ/pulse; 10-cm detection distance is achieved under 6-mW/mm2 light intensity using an in-house photodiode detector circuit. The circuitry dissipates 6 μW in total at 1.2-V nominal voltage. It consists of a 0.1-mm2 LED die, 2.25-mm2 IC, and a surface mounted device storage capacitor, taking approximately 1-mm3 volume

    From green buildings to green supply chains:an integrated input-output life cycle assessment and optimization framework for carbon footprint reduction policy making

    Purpose–ThepurposeofthispaperistofocusontracingGHGemissionsacrossthesupplychainindustries associated with the US residential, commercial and industrial building stock and provides optimized GHG reduction policy plans for sustainable development. Design/methodology/approach – A two-step hierarchical approach is developed. First, Economic Input-Output-based Life Cycle Assessment (EIO-LCA) is utilized to quantify the GHG emissions associated with the US residential, commercial and industrial building stock. Second, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) based optimization framework is developed to identify the optimal GHG emissions’ reduction (percent) for each industry across the supply chain network of the US economy. Findings – The results indicated that “ready-mix concrete manufacturing”, “electric power generation, transmission and distribution” and “lighting fixture manufacturing” sectors were found to be the main culprits in the GHG emissions’ stock. Additionally, the majorly responsible industries in the supply chains of eachbuildingconstructioncategorieswerealsohighlightedasthehot-spotsinthesupplychainswithrespect to the GHG emission reduction (percent) requirements. Practical implications – The decision making in terms of construction-related expenses and energy use options have considerable impacts across the supply chains. Therefore, regulations and actions should be re-organized around the systematic understanding considering the principles of “circular economy” within the context of sustainable development. Originality/value – Although the literature is abundant with works that address quantifying environmental impacts of building structures, environmental life cycle impact-based optimization methods are scarce. This paper successfully fills this gap by integrating EIO-LCA and MILP frameworks to identify the most pollutant industries in the supply chains of building structures

    Rapid efficacy of the eye movement desensitization and reprocessing in treatment of persistent complex bereavement disorder:report of two cases

    Grief occurs following the loss of a beloved one and it is a normal experience. However, prolonged (>6 months) grief can serve as a ground for a pathological situation. According to DSM-5, persistent complex bereavement disorder (PCBD) is diagnosed if the grief period exceeds twelve months. If this grief experience accompanies a traumatic event, DSM-5 Appendix recommends including Traumatic Death Specifier. In the process of PCBD, there can be several symptoms such as decreased functionality, sleep disorders, depressed mood, guilt feelings, somatic disorders and denial of the death. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the treatment methods for PCBD. In this study, two cases diagnosed with PCDB and recovered apparently with a time-limited EMDR treatment are presented

    Rectangular shaped microstrip patch antenna with multiple slits and slots

    This paper presents a complex microstrip patch antenna design for Ku-band satellite communication applications. FR4 and RogerRT6002 have alternatively been used as substrates having dielectric constant of 4.4 and 2.94 respectively. The patch ground and feedlines are made of copper. The proposed antenna is unique in shape with rectangular slots. The performance of the antenna has been analyzed in terms of far field gain. The most significant results were obtained using FR4 substrate, which gave a gain of 7.88 dB, at 11.32 GHz and a reflection coefficient of -10.48 dB. The final microstrip patch antenna design was simulated, built and tested. Simulated and measured S11 frequencies perfectly match at 11.32 GHz with simulated and measured magnitudes of 10.48 dB and -29.64 dB respectively

    Dual-mode OTA based biquadratic filter suitable for current-mode applications

    In this paper, a dual mode single-input multiple-output (SIMO) biquadratic filter structure is presented using multi-output Operational Transconductance Amplifiers (OTAs). Using a simple switch, the filter operates alternatively in trans-admittance mode or current mode. Selection of working mode using a switch provides flexibility for current-mode design. The filter natural angular frequency (ω0) and quality factor (Q) can be orthogonally adjusted both in current mode and trans-admittance mode operation. The proposed structure has simple structure, requiring only four OTAs and two grounded capacitors. The proposed structure is the only SIMO structure where the working mode is selected using a switch. The proposed biquadratic structure is realized using 0.35 µm CMOS technology, and, circuit functionality is verified by SPICE simulations
