Environmental psychology for architectural design: cognitive-behavioral approaches to spatial cognition

    No full text
Paper presented at the International Symposium for Environmental Science and Engineering Research : Proceeding Book AbstractsEnvironmental psychology, human-space relations between physical environment and human behavior. How do spatial variables direct human behavior? Environmental psychology; it has been defined by names such as architectural psychology, psychological ecology, ecological psychology. The aim of this article is to try to capture two main objectives of environmental psychology: to try to understand human-environment mutual actions and to use this information as an aid in solving space design problems. It first looks at Environmental psychology has focused its interdisciplinary discourse with those who design and plan the physical environment toward architects. Also, environmental psychology is interested in environmental perception and cognition, in feelings all focus on the spaces relevant to architecture and designer. Next it discusses the Spatial behaviors are influenced by human images of space. Cognitive mapping studies aim to clarify these phenomena and understand our perceptions as a result of environment-human interaction. The discussion in relation to If the principles of how people perceive and shape the physical environment can be known, the environmental behavior of individuals can be better understood; more perceptible, representative, and finally livable spaces for people. The article concludes with the discussion of human–environment interaction, the perception of the environment and understanding of the space in the human mind will contribute to understanding the subject of cognitive processes while giving information about the "spatial legibility/intelligibility" hence the development of design principles suitable for the design process

    Türk evinin karakteristik unsuru saçak

    No full text

Modeling stock-out loss and overstocking loss generated by bull whip effect

    No full text
Although the literature of the supply chain abounds with the analysis of the bullwhip effect, few studies regarding the impact of the bullwhip effect or demand distortion on the supply chain profit have been done. Hence, the concept of Distance to Loss (DL) is introduced, which is a function of the retailer's selling price, the manufacturer's wholesale price, the end item's salvage value, the retailer's expected demand, and the retailer's variance of demand. This concept can perfectly model both stock-out loss and overstocking loss emanated by the bullwhip effect and combine both the newsvendor model and credit risk concepts. Our findings are based on an experimental design and are profoundly in line with previous research. In particular, our model indicates that variations in demand parameters, retailer's selling price, and manufacturer's wholesale price impinge on the retailer's DL, whereas a slight increase in the salvage value negligibly affects the retailer's DL. Reversal effects in charitable behaviors across cultures: The role of sentence voice

Income per capita was previously found to be sometimes negatively, and sometimes positively, associated with helping across cultures. These opposite effects may result from a type of reversal of helping across the perceived contexts of cultures. The possibility in a language to highlight actors' responsibility in events through antipassive sentences (cf. "I will help") predicted higher, and the possibility to decrease the responsibility through passive sentences ("The needy will be helped") predicted lower levels of charitable behaviors in countries with lower levels of power distance and uncertainty avoidance, and higher levels of income, a set of societal characteristics, which were previously found to positively impact helping. The results highlight the role of sentence voice presumably linked with perceived autonomy in contexts of helping across cultures, ultimately reversing the cultural effects on charitable behaviors
