    Evaluation of Beef Manure Production and Bedding Removal Time in Bedded Pack Barn

    The current study was conducted to clarify the amount of manure production from Korean native beef cattle (Hanwoo) raised in bedded pack barn and the suitable bedding replacement time. Total forty heads of Hanwoo (about 412 kg body weight) were raised in five pens (7.5m^2 per head) for 76 days. Average daily manure production without bedding was 13.4 kg/head. The amount of daily manure production including the bedding was 14.9 kg/head, which is 14% lesser than conventional S. Korean Hanwoo manure production unit (17.3 kg/head). During the first 30 days, moisture content of sawdust beddings were considerably increased up to 89% of water holding capacity (WHC) of sawdust. It maintained a very stable level between 30 to 50 days. Academically, 30 days after adding fresh bedding seems to be appropriate replacement time based on WHC. Whereas, from a practical standpoint, maximum 50 days should be acceptable by considering several other factors, such as the expense of purchasing bedding material, the cleanliness of the feeding environment, and the availability of manure treatment

    Double Shear Loading Test of Brick Masonry which Constitutes the Kyushu University Headquarters Building 1 and 3

    The objective of this study is to grasp the mechanical characteristics to shear loading about the unreinforced brick masonry extracted from the Kyushu University Headquarters Building 1 and 3. Core and prism specimens for the double shear loading test were extracted from the walls of these unreinforced brick masonry buildings, and were made with the bricks and mortar whose strength were similar to those of the actual masonry structure’s components. As a result of the loading tests, some basic mechanical characteristics to shear loading about the brick masonry were clarified,for instance, shear strength, shear stress-drift angle relations, apparent shear rigidity and so forth. It was found out that the drift angles when the shear strength reached to the maximum were 0.8-5.4 times of the angles when the elastic deformation would be kept until the maximum strength

    The Aixuan School in Fujian area

    The Aixuan School was one branch of the Southern Song Dynasty’s Confucian School. Established by Guangchao Lin, they did not adhere to the classics or interpretations of old texts, but instead paid attention to Confucian practices, without laying emphasis on prior studies. This paper will discuss 1)the Putian and Fuqing areas in Fujian where the Aixuan School prospered, and 2) historical materials relating to the Aixuan School, in order to gain a clearer picture of the school. In the Southern Song Dynasty, there was not many records on the Aixuan School. Nonetheless, curiosity into the school did increase to some degree as time passed. This study will discuss why the once famous Aixuan School was not of such interest to later generations; a trend that is important to understand for those studying the subject. The latter half of this paper will focus on addressing the issues raised above. Internal problems and differences between how followers understood the teachings are the main reasons why the Aixuan School lost the level of fame it had in earlier times; factors not examined in previous studies

    はじめに 1.日本 加賀平野 2.琉球 浦添間切 3.ヒトと自然との「調和」を問う おわりに小稿の目的は、絵画資料を分析しながら、江戸時代の水田と、それを取り巻く自然環境を明らかにすることである。江戸時代の17 世紀は、新田開発の時代である。平野部には水田が広がり、生産されたコメが社会を支えた。国全体の財政システムも、コメが基準とされた。その結果、人口が急激に増加し、社会は経済成長を成し遂げた。ところで、水田は、人間の視点に立てば、コメを生産する場である。だが、生き物の視点に立てば、水田は水辺でもある。水辺には、動物や鳥、魚などの多様な生き物が生息する。たとえば、イノシシ、シカ、タカ、ツル、コイ、へピ、カエノレなどの名があげられよう。江戸時代には、現代のような生き物を殺す農薬が使われていなかった。したがって、水田が広がったということは、水辺の生き物も増えたことを意味しよう。はたして、水田は生き物を増やしたのか。これを検証するために、江戸中期の農村の風景が描かれた絵農書『農業図絵』をとりあげる。この絵に描かれている生き物に注目し、水田の生態系を復原し、江戸時代の自然環境を明らかにする。The purpose of this study is to show ways in which paddy fields transformed the natural environment during the Edo period by analyzing pictures drawn in that period in cultivators\u27 agricultural manuals. The 17th century was a time of extensive reclaiming of land and construction of paddy fields in Japan. There was an enormous expansion of paddy fields on the plain with a corresponding increase in rice and other crop output, sufficient to contribute to increased commercial sale of crops. As a result, the population increased rapidly, but also experienced considerable economic growth. While the paddy field is a place to produce rice from the human viewpoint, from the viewpoint of the creatures and naturally growing plants, the paddy field is a waterside environment, too. Various creatures such as large and small animals, birds or fishes inhabit this environment, e.g., wild boars, deer, hawks, cranes, carp, snakes, frogs, and more. In the cultivated area, no pesticide was applied which might have poisoned such creatures. Therefore, the creation of paddy generated a new environment in which waterside creatures increased along with the construction of paddies in the Edo period. Did the number and variety of such creatures associated with paddy field really increase? I will investigate this question by analyzing Nōgyō-zue that depicted the scenery of the farm villages of the middle in the Edo period. I will pay attention to creatures drawn in these pictures to clarify the relationship between rural animal life in the Edo period and the ecosystem of the paddy field
