Identity Formation and Diffusion on ‘the College of Community’ : Focusing on Faculty’s Orientation toward Occupation and Community
No full text短期大学は、法制上大学の一種として位置づけられているが、１９９０年代以降、その目的として規定されている職業教育を再評価し、そこへの志向性を強めている。また、地域コミュニティの中にその存在意義を求める「日本版コミュニティ・カレッジ」の議論がある。こうした学術性、職業性、地域性をめぐる短期大学のアイデンティティの形成と拡散の様相について、教員および機関への調査データから、他の高等教育セクター（大学・専門学校）との比較で描き出すとともに、これからの短期大学教育に必要とされる教員コンセプトについて、短大構成員の間に一定のコンセンサスがあるのかどうかを検討した。その結果、教員が考える短期大学のアイデンティティは総じて専門学校教員が考えるそれに近いことと同時に、「コミュニティ・カレッジ」としての方向性自体は短大構成員内でコンセンサスが形成されているが、具体的な学術性、職業性、地域性をめぐる方向性についてはまだ拡散状態にあること等が明らかになった

Efficacy of the Extract from Pongam Leaves (Pongamia pinnata L.) Against Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) and Spodoptera litura Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
No full textThe beet armyworm Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) and the tobacco armyworm S. litura Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) are economically important insect pests of a variety of crops primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. Conventional control of these pests usually depends on synthetic chemical insecticides. Botanical pesticides have recently been paid considerable attention as an environmentally friendly measure to manage various insect pests. The present study was carried out to determine the efficacy of a leaf extract from pongam tree Progamia pinnata L. against the two armyworms. The results showed that the acute lethal toxicity of pongam leaf extract was high against the two armyworm species; the LC50 values were 1.94%, 1.52% and 1.10% at 24, 48 and 72 hours, respectively for S. litura whereas the values for S. exigua larvae were 3.18%, 2.57% and 1.89% at 24, 48 and 72 hours, respectively. Our study also indicated that low concentrations of pongam leaf extract caused significant reductions of vitality of the armyworms; they took more time to mature during the larval stage. Taken together, the treatment with a pongam leaf extract can negatively affect the armyworm populations directly and indirectly, and cause a reduction of overall pest numbers in the next generation. Thus, the pongam leaf extract is a recommendable bio–pesticide to control the armyworms

Effect of Time Zone of Night Break on Growth and Hypertrophy in Seed Bulb Production for Early Summer-Harvesting Cultivation of Allium × wakegi Araki
No full textはじめに / 材料と方法 / 結果 / 考察 / 要約3 ～ 5 月に鱗茎を定植する初夏どり栽培用の種球（鱗茎）生産において，3 月の掘り上げ時の鱗茎肥大を促進するため，15 時間日長と同等の鱗茎の肥大促進効果が得られる3 時間の暗期中断の時間帯が鱗茎肥大に及ぼす影響について検討した．その結果，暗期の中央よりやや遅い，日没後の薄明から9 時間後に暗期中断を開始することで，鱗茎の肥大促進がみられ，これを初夏どり栽培の種球として定植すると生育が旺盛になることが明らかとなった．Effect of time zone of night break treatment for three hours, equivalent to long day (15 hour day length) treatment, on bulb hypertrophy was investigated in seed bulb production for early summer-harvesting cultivation by planting from March to May of Allium × wakegi Araki. It was found that bulb hypertrophy was promoted by night break treatment for 3 hours from 9 hours after twilight after sunset, comparing to that at the center of the dark period, and planting the treated bulbs consequently gives vigorous growth for early summer-harvesting cultivation
