The compositional characteristics of \u22River and Urban Landscape\u22 painted by Bernardo Bellotto from different viewpoints
This paper is a report on compositional characteristics of the rivers and urban landscapes painted by Bernardo Bellotto. As a method for this study, the author made a comparison between the paintings by Bellotto and the real views based on the field survey. The results of the analysis are as follows: 1) Bellotto painted the riverside views both from upstream side and from downstream side. 2) He chose viewpoint, either toward the opposite bank or toward the stream, depending on the width of the river. 3) The significant facilities and architectures in the areas, including the bridges with novel design, were painted multiple times from different viewpoints
Effects of Benzo [a] pyrene on Conduction Velocity of the Rat Dorsal Root and Synaptic Transmission in Substantia Gelatinosa (SG) Neurons of the Rat Spinal Dorsal Horn
In the present study, we analyzed the effects of benzo[a]pyrene on conduction velocity (CV) of action potentials (APs) generated by electrical stimuli applied to the dorsal root in acutely isolated rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) preparations using intracellular recordings. We also measured the effects of benzo [a] pyrene on spontaneous excitatory and inhibitory synaptic responses (sEPSC and sIPSC) and excitatory synaptic responses evoked by dorsal root stimuli in substantia gelatinosa (SG) neurons of the spinal dorsal horn, which receive inputs predominantly from Aδ and C afferent fibers, using patch-clamp recordings. In the present results, benzo [a] pyrene did not affect on resting membrane potentials of Aβ, Aδ and C neurons. In addition, benzo [a] pyrene did not exhibit any effect on conduction velocities of Aδ and C fibers, but that of Aβ fiber was significantly decreased. The amplitude and frequency of both sEPSC and sIPSC in SG neurons of the spinal dorsal horn were not affected. In addition, the synaptic responses elicited by stimulation of Aβ, Aδ and C afferents were not changed by benzo [a] pyrene. From the present results, benzo [a] pyrene causes a change in the conduction velocity of Aβ but not Aδ and C afferent fibers, suggesting that this change causes paresthesia, such as numbness and loss of sensation. However, benzo [a] pyrene does not affect the synaptic transmission in SG of the spinal dorsal horn
What is it - the Exile from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Disaster? : Considering from the Perspective of Heidegger’s Philosophy
Six years have passed since the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident. A lot of problems that the victims of this accident have faced are not solved yet. But many people outside Fukushima have already forgotten what happened 6 years ago. Bullying the students who take refuge from Fukushima happens in various places in Japan, and a Minister for Reconstruction uttered an inappropriate remark on the people fleeing to safety. This paper aims to explore the problems that are behind the current situation about the exile from the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. What have the victims of the disaster lost? What is it to live in the area that is affected by that accident and in the refuge? First of all this paper considers what it is to live at all from the perspective of Martin Heidegger’s philosophy. Next it analyzes the voices of victims and shows that they have lost, in Heidegger’s words,“ the squareworld”(das Geviert) where the earth, the sky, the godly and the mortal are united closely. Finally the paper examines the philosophical cause of the deconstruction of Fukushima nuclear power plant from Heidegger’s point of view and focuses on the activities of poets and novelists who try to reconstruct the disaster area by their words. According to Heidegger human beings need to live in the dwelling of words to take back their square-world. This paper concludes that we can understand the situations of the victims better through Heidegger’s Philosophy, yet we must go further to explore the darkness that it cannot illuminate
