    Socioeconomic impact of the covid-19 pandemic in Angola: consequences of the lack of social protection for families living in Luanda (Chinguar neighborhood).

    O presente trabalho de dissertação intitulado “Impacto socioeconómico da pandemia da covid-19 em Angola: Consêquencias da desproteção social das famílias residentes em Luanda (Bairro Chinguar). Nosso objetivo consistiu Analisar o impacto socioeconómico da Covid-19 às famílias carenciadas no bairro Chinguar (Luanda) durante o distanciamento social na pandemia/COVID-19 no ano de 2020, nesse ponto, procurou-se analisar como algumas famílias que sobrevivem do mercado informal, foram afetadas durante a pandemia e de que forma as medidas governativas tomadas durante esse período afetou a dinâmica de vida dessas famílias. Optou-se por uma abordagem qualitativa, com embasamento na perspectiva do materialismo histórico-dialético, recorrendo ao suporte teórico por meio de pesquisas bibliográfica e documental. Para realizar a pesquisa de campo optou-se pelas entrevistas semiestruturadas com 15 sujeitos (8 mulheres e sete homens), cada um deles representando 15 famílias da comunidade do bairro Chinguar em Luanda, trabalhadoras/es do mercado informal. Para a coleta de dados foi elaborado um guião de entrevistas com questões semiabertas uma vez que percebemos que no decorrer das entrevistas algumas perguntas podem surgir em função da conversa mantida com os sujeitos. Outro procedimento foi a observação direta, com a criação de roteiro de aspectos importantes a serem observados, usou-se um aparelho gravador de som para gravar as entrevistas e preservar a fidelidade dos relatos dos sujeitos que participaram dessa pesquisa. A pesquisa respeitou todos os aspectos éticos, como a submissão do projeto e dos instrumentos de recolha de dados ao comité de ética e pesquisa da Unesp- Campus de Franca; autorização e o consentimento prévio dos participantes com assinatura do termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido (TCLE), permissão para o uso de gravador, de fotografias durante as entrevistas, além da adoção de nomes fictícios na elaboração do trabalho. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram que as medidas tomadas pelo governo durante a pandemia aprofundaram a situação de pobreza dos trabalhadores informais, uma vez que a sua sobrevivência dependia do ganho diário das suas vendas, aumentou o número de desempregos no país, uma vez que muitas empresas faliram e tiveram que encerrar os seus serviços, provocando a perda de muitos postos de trabalho, obrigando muitas pessoas principalmente mulheres a recorrerem ao trabalho informal no intuito de garantir a sobrevivência familiar.This dissertation is entitled “Socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Angola: Consequences of the lack of social protection of families living in Luanda (Chinguar neighborhood). Our objective was to analyze the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19 on needy families in the Chinguar neighborhood (Luanda) during social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. At this point, we sought to analyze how some families who survive in the informal market were affected during the pandemic and how government measures taken during this period affected the dynamics of these families' lives. We chose a qualitative approach, based on the perspective of historical-dialectical materialism, using theoretical support through bibliographic and documentary research. To carry out the field research, we chose semi-structured interviews with 15 subjects (8 women and seven men), each of them representing 15 families from the community of the Chinguar neighborhood in Luanda, workers in the market. informal. For data collection, an interview script with semi-open questions was prepared, since we realized that during the interviews some questions might arise due to the conversation held with the subjects. Another procedure was direct observation, with the creation of a script of important aspects to be observed. A sound recorder was used to record the interviews and preserve the fidelity of the reports of the subjects who participated in this research. The research complied with all ethical aspects, such as the submission of the project and data collection instruments to the ethics and research committee of Unesp- Campus de Franca; authorization and prior consent of the participants by signing the informed consent form (ICF), permission to use a recorder and photographs during the interviews, in addition to the adoption of fictitious names in the preparation of the work. The results of the research showed that the measures taken by the government during the pandemic deepened the poverty situation of informal workers, since their survival depended on the daily income from their sales; the number of unemployment in the country increased, since many companies went bankrupt and had to close their services, causing the loss of many jobs, forcing many people, especially women, to resort to informal work in order to ensure family survival.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)CAPES: 00

    α-MoO3 Micro- and Nanoparticles as Catalysts for Biofuel Production

    Herein, α-MoO3 micro- and nanoparticles were synthesized by a modified Pechini method, and the impact of the crystal structure and crystal growth orientation on the formation of ionic defects and, consequently, on the catalytic performance of the materials in the ethylic transesterification reaction for biodiesel production was investigated. Structural refinements from X-ray diffraction data and Raman spectra revealed the formation of α-MoO3 in a Pbnm orthorhombic phase, with nanoplate-like morphology at 500 °C (thickness between 100 and 260 nm) or ribbon-like morphology at 700 °C (thickness between 400 and 900 nm). An anisotropic crystal orientation along the [010] direction was observed with an increase of the calcination temperature. We emphasize the dependence of the orientation change with the elimination of ionic-type defects (oxygen vacancies and reduced Mo5+ centers) by the temperature using complementary techniques such as X-ray photoelectron and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies. The catalytic activity of the samples depends on the orientation process and the presence of defects that act as acid-active sites on the catalyst surface and therefore play an important role in biodiesel production. This effect was confirmed by surface stability and reactivity simulated by density functional theory calculations, suggesting that the Mo and O surface terminals greatly impacted the interface catalytic reaction. The highest catalytic performance toward the biodiesel conversion (89% of conversion at 150 °C for 2 h) was achieved for the polycrystalline catalyst calcined at 500 °C, which was correlated with random crystal orientation and the presence of reduced Mo5+ and oxygen vacancy centers on the different facets exposed on the surface.     Municipal Sustainability: socio-environmental management in the municipalities of Igarapava and Orlândia in the State of São Paulo.

    Este estudo analisou a existência de evidências de sustentabilidade municipal sob a perspectiva do ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) e do nível de maturidade dos Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) na gestão socioambiental das cidades de Igarapava e Orlândia, no Estado de São Paulo. Para isso, foi realizada uma análise do estado da arte da sustentabilidade, da gestão socioambiental e da legislação ambiental, fornecendo suporte para ações municipais. A pesquisa avaliou instrumentos como o Programa Município Verde Azul (PMVA) e o Índice de Desenvolvimento Sustentável das Cidades de São Paulo (IDSC-SP), além da aplicação de questionários estruturados para mensurar a gestão socioambiental, a conformidade e a maturidade das ações municipais. Como complemento, foi proposta a demonstração de iniciativas socioambientais por meio da realização de um evento intermunicipal envolvendo a região da Alta Mogiana .A metodologia adotou um estudo de caso, revisão bibliográfica e abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa, incluindo questionários online aplicados a órgãos públicos e análise documental de programas ambientais. Os resultados revelaram diferenças significativas no planejamento estratégico e na maturidade da gestão sustentável entre os municípios: enquanto um apresenta uma abordagem estruturada, o outro adota medidas mais reativas .O estudo culminou na realização do 1º Fórum Socioambiental Intermunicipal, promovendo o compartilhamento de boas práticas e incentivando a cooperação entre os municípios. Os achados evidenciaram a necessidade de maior integração entre os setores da administração pública, capacitação técnica e planejamento Contínuo para fortalecer a governança socioambiental. Conclui-se que a sustentabilidade municipal depende de uma gestão estratégica e comprometida, capaz de equilibrar o desenvolvimento econômico com a preservação ambiental, garantindo ações estruturadas e eficazes no longo prazo.This study analyzed the existence of evidence of municipal sustainability from the perspective of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and the maturity level of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the socio-environmental management of the cities of Igarapava and Orlândia, in the State of São Paulo. To achieve this, an analysis was conducted on the state of the art in sustainability, socio environmental management, and environmental legislation, providing support for municipal actions. The research evaluated instruments such as the Green Blue Municipality Program (PMVA) and the Sustainable Development Index of São Paulo Cities (IDSC-SP), in addition to the application of structured questionnaires to measure socio-environmental management, compliance, and the maturity of municipal actions. As a complement, the study proposed the demonstration of socio-environmental initiatives through the organization of an intermunicipal event involving the Alta Mogiana region. The methodology adopted a case study, literature review, and a qualitative and quantitative approach, including online questionnaires applied to public agencies and documentary analysis of environmental programs. The results revealed significant differences in strategic planning and the maturity of sustainable management between the municipalities: while one follows a structured approach, the other adopts more reactive measures. The study culminated in the realization of the 1st Intermunicipal Socio-environmental Forum, promoting the sharing of best practices and encouraging cooperation among municipalities. The findings highlighted the need for greater integration between public administration sectors, technical training, and continuous planning to strengthen socio-environmental governance. It is concluded that municipal sustainability depends on strategic and committed management, capable of balancing economic development with environmental preservation, ensuring structured and effective long-term actions

    Structural and functional insights into recombinant β-glucosidase from Thermothelomyces thermophilus: Cello-oligosaccharide hydrolysis and thermostability

    β-glucosidases (BGLs) are key enzymes in the depolymerization of cellulosic biomass, catalyzing the conversion of cello-oligosaccharides into glucose. This conversion is pivotal for enhancing the production of second-generation ethanol or other value-added products in biorefineries. However, the process is often cost-prohibitive due to the high enzyme loadings required. Therefore, the discovery of new highly efficient BGLs represents a significant advancement. In this study, a BGL from the glycoside hydrolase family 3 (GH3) of the thermophilic fungus Thermothelomyces thermophilus (TthBgl3A) was heterologously expressed in Aspergillus nidulans. The recombinant enzyme exhibited optimal activity at pH 5.0 and 55 °C, with noteworthy stability for up to 160 h. A distinctive, extensive loop within the catalytic cavity of TthBgl3A facilitates hydrophobic interactions that enhance the binding and hydrolysis of long cello-oligosaccharides. Consequently, TthBgl3A has proven to be an efficient enzyme for the hydrolysis lignocellulosic biomass.     Eficacia clínica y seguridad de vedolizumab frente a infliximab en pacientes con colitis ulcerosa sin tratamiento biológico: un estudio observacional multicéntrico comparativo en el mundo real

    Objective: Vedolizumab (VDZ) and infliximab (IFX) are first-line therapies for moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis (UC). Despite their widespread use, there are no direct comparative studies, and real-world data, particularly in Latin America, are limited. This study compared the effectiveness and safety of VDZ and IFX in biologic-naïve UC patients. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients with moderate-to-severe UC (Mayo score 6–12, endoscopic sub-score ≥2) treated with VDZ or IFX. Primary endpoints were clinical remission (partial Mayo score ≤2), endoscopic remission (Mayo sub-score = 0), and steroid-free clinical remission at week 52. Secondary endpoints included clinical response, endoscopic response, biological therapy optimization, adverse events (AEs), hospitalizations, and biochemical remission at week 52. Propensity score adjustment (1/PS) was used to adjust for potential confounders. Results: A total of 297 UC patients (156 IFX, 141 VDZ) were analyzed. Clinical remission at week 52 was 82.3% for VDZ and 77.6% for IFX (p = 0.11), while endoscopic remission was higher in VDZ patients (47.4% vs. 33.1%, p = 0.03). Steroid-free clinical remission rates were similar between groups (p = 0.98). Endoscopic response at week 52 favored VDZ (78.4% vs. 62.7%, p < 0.001), and VDZ had higher treatment persistence (80.8% vs. 61.8%, p < 0.001). AEs and hospitalizations were more frequent in IFX patients (p < 0.001).     Phenological analysis of rice crop in the Vale do Ribeira region using satellite imagery

    O objetivo do trabalho foi caracterizar o ciclo fenológico do arroz na região do Vale do Ribeira, por meio de imagens de satélite e identificar a melhor época para o mapeamento da cultura. O presente estudo analisou a fenologia do arroz no Vale do Ribeira, por meio da utilização de imagens de satélite como ferramenta para monitoramento e avaliação agrícola, a fim de caracterizar o ciclo de arroz na região, que possui desafios no monitoramento pela quantidade de interferências na aquisição de imagens. O arroz é uma cultura de grande importância econômica e alimentar, com o Brasil ocupando a nona posição no ranking global de produção. No Vale do Ribeira, a atividade se consolidou desde a chegada dos imigrantes japoneses, que adaptaram as condições locais ao cultivo nas várzeas úmidas. As imagens foram obtidas por meio da plataforma Copernicus Browser (Missão Sentinel-2), utilizando a coleção Level-2A, que fornece imagens multiespectrais corrigidas geométrica e atmosfericamente. As análises incluíram a geração de composições de imagens de cor verdadeira (RGB), falsa cor (NIR) e o cálculo do índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada, ou, no inglês, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), possibilitando o acompanhamento do ciclo fenológico do arroz ao longo do tempo. Após análise da cobertura de nuvens, seis imagens foram selecionadas entre novembro de 2024 e março de 2025, abrangendo as fases de plantio, crescimento vegetativo, maturação e colheita. A coleta de dados de campo incluiu visitas de campo para registrar práticas agrícolas, períodos de plantio e da irrigação por inundação. Observou-se que a irrigação foi realizada de forma parcelada, possivelmente devido à limitação hídrica, enquanto o manejo foi favorecido pela sistematização dos talhões, garantindo maior uniformidade na altura do solo e eficiência na distribuição de água. A análise das imagens durante o período produtivo, com base nas cenas disponíveis, mostrou-se viável para capturar informações sobre as principais fases produtivas. O uso de tecnologias de sensoriamento remoto destacou-se como uma abordagem promissora para o monitoramento agrícola da cultura do arroz na região, fornecendo subsídios para um manejo mais preciso e sustentável. Este estudo reforça a relevância das ferramentas de sensoriamento remoto para a gestão eficiente da agricultura.The objective of this study was to characterize the phenological cycle of rice in the Vale do Ribeira region using satellite imagery and to identify the best period for mapping the crop. This study analyzed the phenology of rice cultivation in the Vale do Ribeira region, focusing on the use of satellite imagery as a tool for agricultural monitoring and assessment. Rice is a crop of great economic and dietary importance, with Brazil ranking ninth in global production. In Vale do Ribeira, rice cultivation has been a consolidated activity since the arrival of Japanese immigrants, who adapted local conditions for farming in the humid lowlands. This historically and economically significant region was chosen as the study area, utilizing innovative remote sensing technologies. Images were obtained through the Copernicus Browser platform (Sentinel-2 Mission), using the Level-2A collection, which provides atmospherically corrected multispectral data. The analyses included true color (RGB) and false color (NIR) compositions, as well as the calculation of the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), enabling the monitoring of the rice phenological cycle over time. Six images were selected between November 2024 and March 2025, covering the planting, vegetative growth, maturation, and harvest phases. Field data collection included visits to record agricultural practices, planting periods, and flooding schedules. It was observed that irrigation was performed in a staggered manner due to water limitations, while efficient management was supported by the systematization of the plots, ensuring greater uniformity in soil height and water distribution efficiency. The analysis of representative points proved efficient in capturing local information, avoiding data smoothing caused by global averages. The use of remote sensing technologies, combined with the QGIS software, proved to be a robust approach for agricultural monitoring, providing insights for more precise and sustainable management. This study reinforces the relevance of geospatial tools for efficient agricultural management, especially in regions with traditional practices and water challenges

    Effects of sodium chloride levels on pH, crude protein, and NDF of reconstituted corn grain silages

    A ensilagem de grãos de milho reconstituídos é uma prática eficiente para conservação de alimentos em períodos de escassez. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da adição de diferentes doses de (0,0, 0,5, 1,0, 1,5, 2,0 e 2,5% da matéria seca?.) cloreto de sódio (NaCl) sobre o perfil fermentativo e qualidade da silagem de milho reconstituído. Foram analisados os teores de proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), pH. Os resultados indicaram que a adição de NaCl não influenciou significativamente os teores de PB e FDN (P = ), mantendo-se . No entanto, observou-se aumento linear (P = ) dos valores de pH com o incremento das doses, ultrapassando o limiar de 4,6 a partir de 1%.Clostridium spp. Assim, embora o NaCl não tenha prejudicado os parâmetros nutricionais, sua adição em concentrações elevadas comprometeu a qualidade fermentativa. Conclui-se que a utilização de cloreto de sódio como aditivo deve ser realizada com cautela, e que doses superiores a 1% não são recomendadas sem estudos adicionais que avaliem sua influência sobre a estabilidade da silagem a longo prazo.The ensiling of reconstituted corn grains is an efficient practice for preserving feed during periods of scarcity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of adding different NaCl doses (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5%) on the fermentation and quality of reconstituted corn silage. Crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), pH, and other bromatological parameters were analyzed. The results indicated that NaCl addition did not significantly affect CP and NDF levels, which remained close to expected standards. However, a linear increase in pH was observed with increasing salt concentrations, exceeding the 4.6 threshold from 1% onwards, which may compromise the stability of the anaerobic environment. This behavior suggests a risk of proliferation of undesirable microorganisms, such as Clostridium spp.p., negatively affecting silage preservation. Therefore, although NaCl did not impair nutritional parameters, its use at higher concentrations compromised fermentative quality. It is concluded that sodium chloride should be used with caution, and levels above 1% are not recommended without further studies evaluating its long-term effects on silage stability.Clostridium spp

    Environmental Seasonality Affects the Growth, Yield and Economic Viability of Irrigated Forage Species in Dry Regions

    Irrigation in semi-arid regions overcomes edaphoclimatic limitations, guaranteeing livestock farming and reducing the seasonality of forage production. The objective is therefore to evaluate the influence of seasonal variations on the development and accumulation of forage species. The study was conducted in the semi-arid region of Brazil over several harvests from 2020 to 2023 in a randomized block design with four replications, comprising pasture grasses (Brachiaria, buffel, Mombasa and Tanzania), silage crops (BRS Capiaçu, elephant grass, maize and sorghum) and protein sources (alfalfa, Gliricidia, Leucaena and Moringa) subjected to a fixed irrigation regime based on 100% reference evapotranspiration. Tanzania, BRS Capiaçu and Leucaena presented relatively high dry matter yields of 27.0, 111.3 and 36.2 Mg ha−1, respectively. The buffelgrass–sorghum–pigeonpea intercropping system was more efficient in terms of dry matter production (44.5 Mg ha−1). The economic viability varied greatly between cycles and seasons, with sorghum, BRS Capiaçu and Gliricidia standing out as having a positive benefit–cost ratio during all the cycles evaluated.     Is platelet-rich plasma effective in treating uterine inflammation in jennies inseminated with cryopreserved donkey semen?

    Despite frozen donkey semen demonstrating high quality after thawing and achieving suitable pregnancy rates in mares, it yields unsatisfactory results in jennies, likely due to a stronger uterine inflammatory response. This study assessed the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on uterine inflammation and pregnancy rates in jennies inseminated with frozen donkey semen. Estrous cycles from 11 jennies were assigned to three groups: Control (CTR, n = 22) with no treatment; Single PRP infusion (S-PRP, n = 22) administered 30 h after ovulation induction, prior to artificial insemination (AI); and Double PRP infusion (D-PRP, n = 21) with the first infusion at 30 h after ovulation induction and the second 4 h after AI. Insemination was performed with frozen donkey semen (1 billion sperm) deposited deeply in the uterine horn immediately after ovulation. Endometrial edema, intrauterine fluid (IUF), uterine vascularization, and endometrial cytology were evaluated pre-AI (TCt) and post-AI (6, 24, and 48 h). Uterine biopsies were taken at T48 for histopathological and collagen evaluation. Peripheral blood samples were collected on D5 for serum progesterone measurement, and pregnancy was evaluated via ultrasonography on D14. Data were analyzed using GLMMs, ANOVA, Friedman, and Kruskal-Wallis tests in SAS and GraphPad Prism, with significance set at p < 0.05. The S-PRP group showed less IUF accumulation than the CTR group at T6. Other parameters showed no significant differences among the groups. Cytology revealed a high percentage of inflammatory cells at T6 in all groups, which decreased in subsequent evaluations. In the CTR group, neutrophil percentages were similar to TCt at T24, while treated groups reached this similarity only by T48. Eosinophil percentages increased over time only in the treated groups. Pregnancy rates showed no differences among the groups (CTR: 0 %, S-PRP: 0 %, D-PRP: 10 %).     As rizobactérias promotoras de crescimento exercem um papel importante na produção de mudas. São responsáveis pelo estabelecimento de interações simbióticas benéficas com as plantas, surgindo como uma alternativa biológica viável. A espécie Astronium graveolens, conhecida como guaritá, é uma árvore nativa do Brasil de porte alto, utilizada em praças e parques e comercializada pela sua madeira de alta qualidade. A adoção de novas tecnologias sustentáveis utilizadas na produção de mudas dessa espécie tem o potencial de proporcionar condições competitivas favoráveis no mercado. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi verificar se algumas rizobactérias afetam o crescimento, o desenvolvimento e a qualidade inicial de mudas de A. graveolens. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado. Foram seis tratamentos: 1. Ausência de microrganismos - controle; 2. Azospirillum brasilense; 3. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens; 4. Bacillus megaterium; 5. Bacillus pumilus; 6. Bacillus subtilis, quatro repetições e dez plantas por parcela. Inoculou-se 1 mL das rizobactérias por ocasião da semeadura e, também, aos 20 e 40 dias após a semeadura; as mudas destinadas ao tratamento-controle não foram inoculadas. Foram avaliados: comprimento da parte aérea, diâmetro do colo, número de folhas, área foliar, massa seca das raízes e da parte aérea e calculado a massa seca total e o Índice de Qualidade de Dickson. Concluiu-se que a rizobactéria B. subtilis foi a mais eficiente em promover o crescimento e o desenvolvimento das mudas de guaritá e a inoculação com as rizobactérias B. subtilis e B. pumilus promoveu mudas de maior qualidade.Growth-promoting rhizobacteria play an extremely important commercial and environmental role. They are responsible for establishing beneficial symbiotic interactions with plants, emerging as a viable biological alternative. The species Astronium graveolens, known as guaritá, is a tall native Brazilian tree, used in squares and parks and marketed for its high-quality wood. The adoption of new sustainable technologies used in the production of seedlings of this species has the potential to provide favorable competitive conditions in the market. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify whether some rhizobacteria affect the growth and initial development of A. graveolens seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized. There were six treatments: 1. Absence of microorganisms - control; 2. Azospirillum brasilense; 3. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens; 4. Bacillus megaterium; 5. Bacillus pumilus; 6. Bacillus subtilis, four replicates and ten plants per plot. 1 mL of rhizobacteria was inoculated at sowing, 20 and 40 days after sowing; the seedlings intended for the control treatment were not inoculated. The following were evaluated: shoot length, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, dry mass of roots and shoots, and the total dry mass and Dickson Quality Index were calculated. It was concluded that the rhizobacterium B. subtilis was the most efficient in promoting the growth and development of guarita seedlings, and inoculation with the rhizobacteria B. subtilis and B. pumilus promoted higher quality guarita seedlings
