Equivariant characteristic classes of singular hypersurfaces
In this paper, we introduce definitions for the integrated equivariant Milnor number μIG and the equivariant Milnor class ℳG(Z), for singular hypersurfaces. We prove that the μIG are constant on the strata in a Whitney stratification of Z, along with the correlation ℳG(Z) = ℳG,0(Z) = 1 |G|Σi=1kμ IG(x i) for hypersurfaces hosting isolated singularities x1,...,xk, where ℳG,0(Z) denotes the 0th equivariant Milnor class of Z. We also introduce the equivariant Fulton-Johnson class of singular hypersurfaces. We give an equivariant version of Verdier's specialization morphism in homology, and also for constructible functions. This is used for finding a relation between equivariant Fulton-Johnson and Schwartz-MacPherson classes.Departamento de Matemática Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Av. Special education: childhood and playfulness in specialized educational services

With the implementation of this model, special education now has an inclusive perspective and students who are eligible have the right to attend Specialized Educational Services, with a view to complementing and/or supplementing their learning. The present research had as its general objective, to verify in specialized educational services what positions and pedagogical actions are in relation to the understanding of childhood and the presence of playfulness in the learning process and to propose training actions for educators. The specific objectives stood out in analyzing the Individual Service Plans – PAI, prepared by special education teachers who work in specialized educational services, with students eligible for special education services, between the years 2021 and 2022, verifying the positioning and pedagogical actions of these professionals in relation to the understanding and presence of playfulness; verify teachers' perceptions about activities involving games and games in specialized educational services and their understanding of playfulness; verify the perceptions that family members have about the use of games and games in specialized educational services and their contributions to learning; know the students' ease and difficulties in carrying out activities, regarding AEE and their perceptions about activities that involve games and games; propose a continuing training course, focusing on the concepts of childhood and playfulness, for special education teachers who work in specialized educational services for students eligible for special education services. This is a qualitative study that initially included documentary analysis and was subsequently methodologically based on action research, with participants being 08 (eight) special education teachers, leaders of specialized educational services, with an emphasis on students. of the initial years of elementary education in the state network, which comprises a regional education board, located in the interior of São Paulo. Furthermore, this study also included the participation of family members in which data were collected through semi-structured interviews and meetings with the participation of students. At the end of data collection, special education teachers were offered a continuing education course, focusing on the concepts of childhood and playfulness. From the research results, it was possible to verify that the understanding of specialized AEE teachers regarding the concepts of childhood and playfulness were summarized in subjects they had in their initial undergraduate training. Furthermore, playfulness during consultations was used to introduce or complement academic content and not through playing as a social construction of the subject, which refers to the symbolic act of playing. As a result, the continuing education course offered following the development of this research expanded the positioning and pedagogical actions of special education teachers, regarding the concepts of childhood and playfulness, which was observed based on the answers given by them in a questionnaire that made up one of the data collection instruments.

Deformations in spinor bundles: Lorentz violation and further physical implications
This paper delves into the deformation of spinor structures within nontrivial topologies and their physical implications. The deformation is modeled by introducing real functions that modify the standard spinor dynamics, leading to distinct physical regions characterized by varying degrees of Lorentz symmetry violation. It allows us to investigate the effects in the dynamical equation and a geometrized nonlinear sigma model. The findings suggest significant implications for the spinor fields in regions with nontrivial topologies, providing a robust mathematical approach to studying exotic spinor behavior.Departamento de Física Universidade Estadual Paulista UNESP, Av. LABios: establishing a Biopoetic Practices Laboratory to reactivate formative potentials
From artistic practices centered on experiences with taste to the emergence of the LABios project — Laboratory of Biopoetic Practices — unfolds a research path grounded in the biological foundation of all symbolic action in humans. Based on the formative approach to bodies as environmental processors situated within ecologies, as practiced by Regina Favre following the work of Stanley Keleman, I have investigated pedagogical practices and devices oriented toward artistic experimentation within the infosphere. Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin, I propose a mode of writing akin to a “carrier bag of stories,” capable of rendering visible the processual nature of research in its thickness, surface nuances, and nonlinearity. LABios is established as a formative and relational environment in which we commit to studying and learning how to nourish and support the emergence of new forms of existence, without dissociative opposition between life and art. By articulating "Formativo by Favre" with the ideas of Étienne Souriau, this laboratory is dedicated to reactivating the formative forces that drive poiesis: the production of continuity as a force of the living, organizing itself into forms and aesthetics of existence. In the context of pedagogical practices in the Arts, this work aims to contribute to research on somatic education applied to learning, mediation, and creative process facilitation. Above all, the objective of this project is to invent antidotes to the anesthetization of bodies, fabulating the “arts of re-membering”: practices to restore the capacity to perceive, feel, think, and act as participants in world-making, from an embryogenic field favorable to experimenting with new modes of composition in tune with Gaia
The Therapeutic Potential of Orange Juice in Cardiac Remodeling: A Metabolomics Approach
Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of death worldwide, and the process of cardiac remodeling lies at the core of most of these diseases. Sustained cardiac remodeling almost unavoidably ends in progressive muscle dysfunction, heart failure, and ultimately death. Therefore, in order to attenuate cardiac remodeling and reduce mortality, different therapies have been used, but it is important to identify adjuvant factors that can help to modulate this process. One of these factors is the inclusion of affordable foods in the diet with potential cardioprotective properties. Orange juice intake has been associated with several beneficial metabolic changes, which may influence cardiac remodeling induced by cardiovascular diseases. Current opinion highlights how the metabolites and metabolic pathways modulated by orange juice consumption could potentially attenuate cardiac remodeling. It was observed that orange juice intake significantly modulates phospholipids, energy metabolism, endocannabinoid signaling, amino acids, and gut microbiota diversity, improving insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome. Specifically, modulation of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) metabolism and activation of PPARα and PPARγ receptors, associated with improved energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, and oxidative stress, showed protective effects on the heart. Furthermore, orange juice intake positively impacted gut microbiota diversity and led to an increase in beneficial bacterial populations, correlated with improved metabolic syndrome. These findings suggest that orange juice may act as a metabolic modulator, with potential therapeutic implications for cardiac remodeling associated with cardiovascular diseases.Internal Medicine Department Botucatu Medical School Sao Paulo State University (UNESP)Internal Medicine Department Botucatu Medical School Sao Paulo State University (UNESP
Does Size Matter? A Retrospective Study Analysing the Size of PI-RADS 4 Lesions and Its Associated Prostate Cancer Positivity with Transperineal Prostate Biopsy
Introduction: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an essential tool in Prostate Cancer (PCa) diagnosis. PI-RADS v2.1 score correlates with clinically significant prostate cancer (CSPCa) and according to the most recent guidelines, prevalence of CSPCa with PI-RADS 4 is 33–41%, while PI-RADS 5 is 62–79%. These groups are separated only by a size of 15 mm yet the difference in risk is significant. This study aims to find a size threshold associated with CSPCa within the PI-RADS 4 group, which may be used in combination with other prostatic parameters, such as PSA density in order to help with risk stratification and patient counselling in the pre-biopsy setting. This may also aid with surveillance of smaller PI-RADS 4 lesions in the setting of a negative biopsy and avoid unnecessary repeat biopsies unless triggered by a size threshold. Methods: A retrospective study was performed with data from 407 patients undergoing transperineal prostate biopsy (TPPB) between April 2022 and November 2023. A subgroup of patients with PI-RADS 4 was included for analysis. A ROC-AUC was obtained. Results: Median age was 67 (interquartile range: 61–71) and PSA density 0.20 (interquartile range 0.13–0.28). PI-RADS score correlated with CSPCa: for PI-RADS 1 and 2, the frequency of CSPCa was 10%; for PI-RADS 3, it was 20%; for PI-RADS 4, it was 60%; and for PI-RADS 5, it was 80%, Pearson correlation = 0.51, p < 0.001. The Receiver Operating Characteristic Area Under the Curve (ROC-AUC) was determined to be 0.664 [0.579–0.7499]. The optimal cut-off point was 8.5 mm. Patients with lesions larger than 8.5 mm had 2.31 times higher risk CSPCa. Conclusion: PI-RADS 4 size does matter and is a useful predictor of CSPCa. In our study, a cut-off of 8.5 mm was identified. The combination of PI-RADS 4 with PSA density provides a specificity higher than 80% for CSPCa detection.Urology Department Tauranga HospitalSurgical Department University of AucklandRenal Department Botucatu School of Medicine São Paulo State UniversityUrology Department Botucatu School of Medicine São Paulo State UniversityRenal Department Botucatu School of Medicine São Paulo State UniversityUrology Department Botucatu School of Medicine São Paulo State Universit
The aim of this thesis was to analyze the effect of high-intensity interval exercise with and without gravitational impact on bone turnover markers and osteokines of untrained adolescent females. Additionally, we analyzed the effect of each mode (with and without impact) on cytokines and adipokines that are potentially associated with bone turnover markers and osteokines. Lastly, we assessed how each mode of exercise impacts the affective perception of the adolescents and which mode was more enjoyable. This was a cross-over design study, where 11 adolescent females participated in two HIIE trials (high-intensity interval running [HIIR] and high-intensity interval cycling [HIIC]) in random order. Body composition, nutritional intake, and bone-specific physical activity background were assessed using specific methods. They performed a progressive incremental test to determine the peak workload for the treadmill and cycle ergometer. On different days, in the morning, they completed the trials, involving eight bouts of one minute of maximal effort, followed by one minute of passive recovery between bouts. Blood samples were collected before exercise (baseline), 5-min, and 60-min post-exercise. Serum blood was used to analyze bone markers of formation (i.e., P1NP and OPG) and resorption (i.e., CTX-I), osteokines (i.e., sclerostin, OPG, and RANKL), cytokines (i.e., IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α), and cortisol. Adipokines (i.e., leptin and adiponectin) and other metabolic markers (i.e., glucose and LHD) were measured in serum. Affective perception was reported by the Feeling Scale (FS) before and after each trial, and enjoyment was reported by the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) after each trial. Statistical analysis included linear mixed models (LMM) to assess the fixed effect of time (pre, 5-min, and 60-min post-exercise), mode (HIIR and HIIC), and interaction between factors (time*mode), while accounting for the random effect of each individual. Covariates (areal bone mineral density, fat mass, previous bone-specific physical activity, and blood markers values at baseline) were tested individually for each model considering the correlation with the outcome. Difference in PACES total score and their individual items between modes was tested using an independent t-test. Chapter 4 shows that P1NP, a marker of formation, increased significantly following HIIR but not after HIIC. Sclerostin peaked 5-min post-exercise in response to both modes, while OPG and RANKL and OPG:RANKL ratio did not change after HIIR and HIIC. HIIR was more enjoyable than HIIC, and the affective perception was negatively affected by the latter. Following the same procedures, Chapter 5 shows that both HIIR and HIIC induced a significant increase 5-min post-exercise in the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α, with a greater increase induced by HIIR, while although concentrations returned to baseline levels 60-min post-HIIR and HIIC. Anti-inflammatory presented a delayed increase following both modes, peaking at 60-min post-exercise. Adiponectin but no leptin concentration decreased 60-min post-HIIR and HIIC. The metabolic markers, such as cortisol, glucose, and LDH, were not different between modes of HIIE. Thus, HIIR and HIIC induced similar responses in untrained female adolescents, despite small differences in P1NP and TNF-α. More importantly, HIIR was perceived as more enjoyable, with a lower impact on affect perception of the adolescents. Thus, HIIR seems to be the best strategy to improve health outcomes related to bone and inflammation in adolescent females.O objetivo desta tese foi analisar o efeito do exercício intervalado de alta intensidade, com e sem impacto gravitacional, nos marcadores de remodelação óssea e osteocinas de adolescentes do sexo feminino não treinadas.
Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and deproteinization in teeth with molar incisor hypomineralization: a case series
Background: Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a complex developmental enamel defect influenced by various factors, including genetic predisposition. This condition primarily affects the first permanent molars and, in some instances, the permanent incisors. In this case series, we examined the clinical effects of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and deproteinization with Papacárie on teeth with MIH and carious lesions, focusing on decontamination, hypersensitivity control, and restoration longevity with the use of minimally invasive techniques. Case Description: Seven permanent first molars from children aged 7 to 10 years, with carious dentin lesions and post-eruptive fractures, which required restorative clinical treatment, were selected. Selective chemical-mechanical removal of carious tissue and deproteinization were performed using PapacárieTM, followed by aPDT. A laser device was used, which emitted red light (wavelength: 660 nm, 100 mW, 6 J per spot, 3,571 mW/cm2, 214 J/cm2, 60 seconds). The teeth were then restored with a combined method involving resin-modified glass ionomer cement and bulk-fill composite resin. Microbiological analysis was conducted, along with the assessment of hypersensitivity using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Schiff Cold Air Sensitivity Scale (SCASS) scales, and the evaluation of the longevity of restorations according to the criteria of the United States Public Health Service (USPHS). Clinical evaluations were performed after 48 hours, 3 months, and 6 months. Conclusions: aPDT proved to be promising treatment for decontamination and hypersensitivity control in molars with hypomineralization and dentinal caries. Moreover, deproteinization with Papacárie offers a promising, minimally invasive approach for enhancing restoration longevity.Biophotonics Medicine Postgraduate Program Universidade Nove de JulhoSchool of Dentistry Universidade Metropolitana de SantosPostgraduation Program in Health and Environment Universidade Metropolitana de SantosSchool of Dentistry Universidade de São PauloFaculdade São Leopoldo Mandic Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry, SPResearch of Department of Pediatric Dentistry São Paulo State University Araraquara School of Dentistry UNESP-AraraquaraResearch of Department of Pediatric Dentistry São Paulo State University Araraquara School of Dentistry UNESP-Araraquar
