    No full text
Objective: To analyze discursive practices on sustainable development (SD), understood as differentiated institutional and community genres, from the perspective of Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), using the Cenagoso del Bajo Sinú Wetland Complex as a case study. Methodology: A qualitative approach was employed based on the three-dimensional CDA model, combining a systematic literature review with empirical analysis of a discursive corpus. Databases such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and SciELO were consulted, prioritizing studies on sustainability, environmental policies, and wetland governance. The corpus included environmental regulations, public policy documents, and semi-structured interviews with rural farmers. The analysis was organized along the textual, practice, and sociocultural dimensions of the model, allowing the identification of power relations and tensions surrounding the discursive production of sustainability. Results: The analysis revealed that discourse on SD operates as a hegemonic bureaucratic device that, once institutionalized, legitimizes territorial appropriation in the Wetland Complex and renders community knowledge invisible. Within N. Fairclough’s framework, discursive asymmetries were identified that conceal processes of dispossession and environmental degradation beneath the rhetoric of sustainability. Conclusions: SD discourse imposes a bureaucratic logic that weakens its real implementation. This narrative obscures community knowledge. The article analyzes the transformative role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in mathematics education in rural contexts, through their integration with innovative methodologies. The main objective is to explore how these technologies contribute to meaningful and contextualized learning in settings characterized by structural barriers. A qualitative approach was used, based on an interpretive analysis of 36 studies published between 2019 and 2024, including scientific articles and doctoral dissertations obtained from university repositories and academic search engines such as Google Scholar and Dialnet. The technique consisted of thematic reviews with a focus on analytical rigor and quality. The findings show that ICT, when combined with culturally relevant approaches such as ethnomathematics, strengthen the connection between curricular content and students’ sociocultural realities. Notable experiences include the use of geometric patterns in textiles and digital platforms in school projects. However, disparities persist due to limited technological infrastructure and insufficient teacher training. The study concludes that the effective integration of ICT in these contexts requires a comprehensive approach involving investment, continuous professional development, and community engagement. Finally, the creation of experimental and correlational models is suggested to evaluate the long-term impact of strategies tailored to the specific needs of rural communities.

Introduction: bioprocessing is undergoing a revolution driven by innovations such as single-use systems and continuous bioprocessing. The direct approach to cell engineering is to introduce to or omit from the cell a gene or genes by genetic engineering methods to endow a particular phenotype in order to improve the cellular processes. Over three-quarters of therapeutic proteins are produced using Chinese hamster ovary cells, that raises as the most common cell line used. The aim was to characterize cell and protein engineering. Methods: a literature review was conducted, where 18 articles in English and Spanish were selected, published in the last five years on the subject, in databases such as: Scopus, PubMed, Springer. Results: deleting nonessential genes may increase the productivity by directing cellular resources toward product biosynthesis. Cell culture system provide controlled environments to study cellular process, mammalian cell cultures are valuable for virology, vaccine production, tissue regeneration, genetic engineering. The use of these modified cells is essential for producing recombinant proteins, antibodies and vaccines. Conclusions: cell and protein engineering raised as alternative tools for the development of specific therapies in cancer and immunologic diseases in the last few years. Recombinant protein production lay on areas as cell culture, mammalian cells for specific antibody expression, cell culture technologies and bioreactors as the corner stone for bioprocess

    Multiscale Modeling in Systems Biology

    No full text
Multiscale modeling in systems biology is a methodological approach designed to represent, integrate, and simulate complex biological phenomena occurring across various organizational levels, from the molecular to the tissue scale. In contrast to reductionist perspectives, this holistic framework acknowledges that biological processes emerge from dynamic interactions among components operating simultaneously in multiple spatial and temporal scales. Its development has been facilitated by the growing availability of omics data and the evolution of advanced computational tools, enabling the creation of realistic and predictive simulations. This article reviews theoretical foundations and current applications of multiscale modeling in key fields such as personalized medicine, computational pharmacology, tissue engineering, and clinical simulation. It covers integration strategies such as hierarchical and concurrent coupling, and highlights the use of specialized platforms like GROMACS, NAMD, SimBiology, and PhysiCell. The advantages of this modeling approach include the design of individualized treatments, virtual testing of biomaterials, and the optimization of clinical trials through simulated cohorts.Multiscale models allow not only a more accurate representation of biological systems but also enable the anticipation of pathophysiological dynamics, reduce drug development timelines, and enhance clinical decision-making. Their future effectiveness will depend on data interoperability, algorithmic refinement, and integration with artificial intelligence. Ultimately, multiscale modeling is a foundational tool for advancing toward a more predictive, contextual, and adaptive biology suited to the evolving challenges of contemporary medicine

Nursing intervention in pregnancy loss: challenges and human responses

    No full text
Introduction: Pregnancy was recognised as a stage of major physical, emotional and social changes, during which women faced risks that compromised their well-being and that of their babies. When perinatal death occurred, that moment of hope turned into deep sadness, affecting not only the mother but also her family. Globally and locally, as in Santander, the figures showed the magnitude of this public health problem.Development: Perinatal bereavement was a painful experience that was misunderstood and not adequately addressed by the health system. The mother experienced complex emotions such as guilt, frustration and anger. In this context, nursing played an essential role, providing empathetic support and comprehensive care. Trained professionals applied strategies to recognise emotional suffering and mitigate its consequences. Kristen Swanson's theory of care provided guidance based on close support, empathy and compassion. The Colombian legal framework established standards to protect pregnant women and ensure timely and humane interventions, recognising the right to dignified and respectful mourning. Conclusion: Perinatal death was a traumatic event that required a holistic response from nursing. It was necessary to integrate scientific knowledge, human sensitivity, and regulatory compliance to provide comfort and guidance to families. The intervention of nursing staff, based on theories such as Swanson's, made it possible to address this experience from an emotional, spiritual, and clinical perspective, strengthening the well-being of the mothers affected

The general objective to analyze the pharmacodynamics of Pregabalin and Gabapentin as pain treatment in cervical and lumbar radiculopathy in adult patients of the Neurosurgery service at the Central Hospital of Maracay, Aragua State, Venezuela, during the period from April to September 2024.Materials and Methods An observational, evaluative, prospective and longitudinal study was conducted. The sample consisted of 21 patients, divided into two groups: Group A (n=14) treated with Gabapentin 300 mg and Group B (n=7) treated with Pregabalin 75 mg. The results the mean age was 52.07 ± 10.4 years in Group A and 47.71 ± 7.8 years in Group B (p = 0.300). Most patients were women (78.57% in Group A and 85.71% in Group B, p = 1,000). Both treatments significantly reduced pain (Gabapentin: 7.07 ± 2.2 to 4.78 ± 2.8; Pregabalin: 7.00 ± 2.2 to 5.28 ± 12.2, p = 0.813). Muscle strength improved in both groups, but did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.055). Sensitivity improved in both groups, however, it was lower in the Pregabalin group after treatment (p = 0.029). Adverse events were more frequent in the Pregabalin group (57.14%) compared to Gabapentin (42.86%, p = 0.659). In conclusion, both Pregabalin and Gabapentin are effective in reducing pain in patients with cervical and lumbar radiculopathy. Pregabalin had a higher incidence of adverse effects, which should be considered when choosing treatment. An individualized approach and ongoing follow-up are recommended to optimize neuropathic pain management
