    Responses of re-entrant cylindrical tubes under internal loading

    Re-entrant honeycomb core, which are a variation of the honeycomb in the shape of an hourglass, are part of the auxetic family which provides elevated energy absorption capabilities and structural strength. This thesis focuses on converting a flat plane re-entrant honeycomb core to a cylindrical tube. It examines the strengths and weaknesses of using re-entrant honeycomb core in a cylindrical tube, manufactured via 3D printing. Experimental testing employs an umbrella mechanism to simulate internal loading, validated by virtual simulations using ABAQUS and analytical modeling.     School to work transition for young people with disability, the current ecosystem, and the Ticket to Work approach

    This report brings together the international research evidence about elements that result in successful transition from school to work for young people with disability, an analysis of the ecosystem in which young people with disability experience transition from school in Australia, and a description of the Australian transition initiative, Ticket to Work and its impact on transition for this cohort. The report highlights that transition outcomes can be improved for young people with disability when mechanisms are put in place to enhance what is usually available within schools, post school education and in the disability employment ecosystem. In addition, supporting young people and their families to engage in thinking about post school employment early, results in a greater number of work-related opportunities being available to young people during their late schooling and early adult period.</p

    Biomechanical Analysis of Non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain with 3-Dimensional Musculoskeletal Model

    This thesis explores the use of open-source musculoskeletal modeling to quantify biomechanical factors influencing chronic low back pain (CLBP). Utilizing 3D motion capture and electromyogram-based algorithms, it investigates lumbar spinal loading during lifting tasks in both healthy and CLBP participants. Findings reveal disparities in spinal forces, correlating reduced lumbar loading with limited range of motion, and highlight the potential of OpenSim musculoskeletal models in non-invasive CLBP assessment and treatment.</p

    A comparison of two games teaching approaches in physical education for girls in upper primary school

    This study compared a Tactical Game-centred Approach (TGA) with a Technical Approach (TA) sport units when teaching Physical Education (PE) across 2 units. Participants: 67 Years 5 and 6 girls.Data was collected on a range of student outcomes; fundamental movement skills (FMS), in-game skills. motivation, enjoyment and physical activity.FMS development significantly increased for the TA. In-game skills improved more for the TGA but not significantly. Enjoyment improved significantly more in the TGA. The TGA produced significantly higher levels of physical activity.</p

    Human Resource is not a Resource at all: A Return-on-Investment perspective

    Organisational leaders and HR professionals often claim that employees are their greatest resource. To substantiate this, HR professionals need to demonstrate the benefits of their investments for employees and contributions of their employees effectively. However, many HR professionals are not well-versed in showcasing the return of their activities and investments for their employees’ performance. In this paper, we present an example illustrating how HR professionals can calculate the return on investment (ROI) from HR-related activities and investments. Additionally, we explore the areas where HR professionals should focus their data analysis efforts in the era of AI. The insights from this conceptual paper have significant implications for HR managers regarding their role in data-driven decision-making and management.</p

    Parents’ Perspectives on Australian Children’s Television in the Streaming Era - 2

    Australian Children’s Television Cultures (ACTC) is a research project based at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, in collaboration with RMIT University. To track and examine the screen viewing habits of Australian households with children, the ACTC team is conducting a four-year programme of audience research with Australian parents and legal guardians of children aged 14 and younger. Audience research surveys were carried out over the same six-week period (late August to early October) in 2021 and 2022, and will be repeated in 2023 and 2024 to capture viewing practices and interests over time. The survey topics included perceptions of what makes “good” Australian children’s television, how families with children use different screen media platforms, and the importance parents and caregivers place on diverse representation. The findings from the 2021 audience research were published in the peer-reviewed report “Parents’ Perspectives on Australian Children’s Television in the Streaming Era” in early 2022. This Research Summary provides key findings from the 2022 Parents’ Perspectives survey. This survey had 333 respondents. Only 10% of these respondents also completed the survey in 2021, meaning the 2022 survey provides a mostly new data sample largely unaffected by respondents having an familiarity with the topics and questions. To identify trends in screen viewing habits, the 2022 survey repeated key questions from the 2021 survey. It also introduced new questions on topics such as viewing habits during COVID lockdowns, the use of television in the classroom, SVoD features and functionality, and favourite genres.</p

    Investigating the Ability of Peculiar Velocity Measurements to Distinguish Modified Gravity Models

    This thesis investigates what model of gravity could best explain the accelerated expansion of the universe attributed to dark energy. Gravity models also inform the statistical distribution of galaxy velocities, which I compare to SDSS peculiar velocity data. DGP and f(R) models of gravity were compared, but neither fit the data better than the accepted LCDM model. Further research showed environment specific measurements were more sensitive to different gravity models. As peculiar velocity surveys grow, this method offers competitive constraints on what laws govern gravity on cosmic scales.</p
