    Exploring inclusivity in entrepreneurship education provision: A European study

    This paper explores inclusivity in entrepreneurship education (EE) provision. This is an important area of research given the growth in EE provision globally and the intention for it to be a discipline and a competence accessible to everyone. Drawing on data from nine European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and their respective entrepreneurship programs, our core research question asks: how inclusive are European entrepreneurship education programs, and how might their inclusivity be enhanced? Answering this question could help raise awareness of the need for inclusive EE, identify specific student cohorts who are potentially excluded and help widen EE participation generally. We contribute to the existing body of literature in this field by underscoring the significance of inclusivity in EE programs, proposing an adapted version of an existing inclusivity-proofing tool as a first step for HEIs on their inclusivity journey and offering insights designed to bolster HEIs' EE inclusivity efforts

    Capturing Film Mixers’ Workflows

    Cinema being a controlled medium can offer stakeholders reassurance and a certain level of predictability in terms of soundtrack reproduction. The television and streaming suite of standards and delivery specifications have been developed in order to provide a consistent sonic experience for viewers, as well as predictability for content creators. However, current delivery specifications and standards do not fully address the plethora of playback hardware, inclusive of the reproduction environment, and they fail to consider variance in playback levels and the wider audience demographic. This paper describes the approach developed to identify re-recording mixers’ workflows and monitoring layout, inclusive of speaker types and mixing environments. The findings indicate that mixers adopt varying approaches toward certain stems when creating mixes tailored for TV and streaming platforms, particularly with regard to the dialogue stem compared with other components in a film sound mix. Additionally, it is evident that some mixers adjust their monitoring levels and configurations for TV and streaming platform mixes, although these adjustments may only yield minimal to no discernible outcomes at all. Lastly, the results highlighted that mixers expressed a desire for improvements in current workflows, especially addressing constraints related to shrinking budgets and tight schedules

    Geometrical Features Based-mmWave UAV Path Loss Prediction Using Machine Learning for 5G and Beyond

    Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are envisioned to play a pivotal role in modern telecommunication and wireless sensor networks, offering unparalleled flexibility and mobility for communication and data collection in diverse environments. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the performance of supervised machine learning (ML) models for path loss (PL) prediction in UAV-assisted millimeter-wave (mmWave) radio networks. Leveraging a unique set of interpretable geometrical features, six distinct ML models–linear regression (LR), support vector regressor (SVR), K nearest neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and deep neural network (DNN)–are rigorously evaluated using a massive dataset generated from extensive raytracing (RT) simulations in a typical urban environment. Our results demonstrate that the RF algorithm outperforms other models showcasing superior predictive performance for the test dataset with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 2.38 dB. The proposed ML models demonstrate superior accuracy compared to 3GPP and ITU-R models for mmWave radio networks. This study thoroughly investigates the adaptability of these models to unseen environments and examines the feasibility of training them with sparse datasets to improve accuracy. The reduction in computation time achieved by using ML models instead of extensive RT computations for sparse training datasets is evaluated, and an efficient algorithm for training such models is proposed. Additionally, the sensitivity of ML models to noisy input features is analyzed. We also assess the importance of geometrical features and the impact of sequentially increasing the number of these features on model performance. The results emphasize the significance of the proposed geometrical features and demonstrate the potential of ML models to provide computationally efficient and relatively accurate PL predictions in diverse urban environments

    Global Cancer Nurse's experiences and perceptions of potential occupational exposure to cytotoxic drugs: Mixed methods systematic review with Framework Synthesis

    Aim: To conceptualise experiences and perceptions of cancer nurses' potential for occupational exposure when dealing with cytotoxic drugs (CDs).Design: A mixed methods systematic review with framework synthesis.Methods and Data Sources: A literature search was conducted in February 2022 in CINAHL PubMed, Web of Science, Ovid Nursing, and PsycINFO, and it was reported using the PRISMA guidance.Results: A synthesis of 38 studies revealed new categories of perceived solutions, side effects, and risky behaviour as well as three levels of experience and perception: individual, shared, and cultural, rather than the a priori theory.Conclusions: The review conclude that individuals espouse safe handling and administration of CDs. Synthesis highlights a complex interplay between self-reported perception and the observed experience of potential occupational exposure to cytotoxic drugs.Implications for Professional Practice: The framework synthesis highlights the difference between the perception of espoused practice and the experience of practice. Observation and risk assessment must be used to enhance safe practice. Organisations must take seriously the perception and experience of the adverse effects of administering cytotoxic drugs to support cancer nurses.Reporting Method: Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) methodology for systematic reviews and framework synthesis indexed studies deductively and inductively.No patient or public contribution

    Syrian refugees rearranging their disrupted lives in-between obscurities of social capital, opacities of integration and ambiguities of displacement

    This study explores the coexistence of multiple and radically distinctive, yet rhythmic worlds, that Syrian refugees resettling in the Scotland found themselves within during the pandemic. This study applies rhythm analysis as a critical phenomenological perspective within which being a refugee during the pandemic is not just a legal status or a social condition, but a ‘mode of being in the world’ that is radically different from any of their past experiences. The participants were asked (using iPods) to visually capture or audially reflect on their day-to-day, spatial and nonspatial, encounters to show the realities of everyday life. The data entries show the state of being, contemplation on expectations, searching but not seeing, convalescing the broken rhythms of everyday life during the pandemic. Findings shows that all participants were actively involved in recreation of everyday rhythms – however the realities of Covid-19 lockdown and social experiences of post Covid-19 resulted in a continuous cycle of formation, deformation, reformation of Syrian Refugees. From visual point there is an overarching theme of ‘emptiness’, where the time and space has merged into the notion of nostalgia of what once was and horror of what now is search for belonging and notion of home

    Polish mental and sexual health specialists working with transgender and gender diverse persons – who are they and what is their background?

    Aim. This study aimed to present the demographic and professional characteristics of Pol- ish mental and sexual health specialists (MSHS) and their experience in clinical work with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people. Method. This cross-sectional study was conducted using the LimeSurvey platform. A total of 239 MSHS with a diverse professional background, at different stages of their careers, with experience of working with TGD patients, completed the survey. Participants were asked to provide demographic (e.g., gender and sexual identity) and professional (e.g., knowledge of leading standards and guidelines of care) data. Descriptive statistics were used. Results. The mean age of participants was 39.5 years (SD 7.92) and the majority were as- signed female at birth (73.2%). The sample was composed predominantly of psychotherapists (70%), then psychologists (53%), medical doctors (31%) and certified sexologists (5.9%). The majority (72%) practised in large cities (>500,000); 68.6% reported female gender identity, 24.7% a male identity and 6.3% were TGD; 63.2% were heterosexual, 12.1% homosexual, 12.6% bisexual, and 12.1% reported other sexual identity. Both the significance of religion and religious practice were significantly decreased compared to general Polish population. Most participants declared that they either do not know the basic guidelines of care for TGD people at all or know them very little. The majority of MSHS rated their professional train- ing as insufficient. Conclusions. People providing clinical services to TGD patients are a professionally diverse group. There is an urgent need to expand and intensify professional training directed at MSHS on topics related to the health care dedicated to TGD people

    Effect of hearing intervention on three‐year change in brain morphology

    Background: Prior longitudinal studies among older adults have documented associations between hearing loss and changes in brain morphology. Whether interventions involving hearing aids can reduce age‐related atrophy is unknown. A substudy within the Aging and Cognitive Health Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE, Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT03243422) randomized controlled trial tested the effect of a best‐practices hearing intervention versus health education control on three‐year change in cortical thickness among older adults with hearing loss. Method: The ACHIEVE study enrolled 977 community‐dwelling adults aged 70‐84 years at baseline (2018‐2019) with untreated hearing loss (better ear pure tone average [0.5‐4 kHz] ≥30 and <70 dB HL) and without substantial cognitive impairment from four sites across the U.S. (Jackson, MS, Forsyth County, NC, Minneapolis, MN, Washington County, MD). Participants were randomized to a hearing intervention (provision of hearing aids and related technologies, counseling, and education) or a health education control (individual sessions with a health educator covering topics relevant to chronic disease and disability prevention). Three‐dimensional magnetic resonance imaging was performed on 3 Tesla Siemens scanners in a subsample of 445 participants at the ACHIEVE baseline and three‐year follow‐up. Linear mixed effects models were used in intention‐to‐treat analyses to estimate three‐year change in cortical thickness. All models adjusted for baseline measures of hearing loss, recruitment source, site, age, sex, and education. Missing outcome and covariate data was imputed to mitigate bias caused by informative attrition. Result: At baseline, 224 participants were women (50.3%), 52 participants were Black (11.7%), and the mean (SD) age was 76.4 (4.0) years old (Table 1). Compared to the health education control, the hearing intervention exhibited a nominally protective effect on three‐year change in average cortical thickness (Figure 1). The greatest effect size for cortical thickness was observed in the occipital lobe, while the smallest effect size was detected in the temporal lobe. Statistically significant effects were detected in the pars orbitalis, rostral anterior cingulate, posterior cingulate, and isthmus cingulate (Figure 2). Conclusion: Hearing aid use may reduce decline in cortical thickness among older adults. The effects of hearing aids may be greatest in regions other than those associated with the auditory cortex

    Izhodišča: Slovenska zakonodaja in demografski podatki kažejo potencial za storitve delovne terapije na domu, vendar primanjkuje podatkov o tovrstnih storitvah za ljudi nad 65. letom starosti. Obenem ni uradno objavljenih podatkov o tem, koliko in katere storitve delovni terapevti za to populacijo že nudijo. Metode dela: Oblikovan je bil vprašalnik s tremi glavnimi temami. Poslan je bil sedmim slovenskim delovnim terapevtom z izkušnjami z delovno terapijo na domu. Za analizo podatkov je bila uporabljena opisna statistika. Rezultati: Podobnosti pri nudenju storitev starejšim na domu so vključevale interdisciplinarno delo, uporabo delovnoterapevtskih modelov, postavljanje ciljev in uporabo standardiziranih ocenjevanj. Razprava: Delovni terapevti na tem področju se odlikujejo v na uporabnika usmerjeni, kreativni in na okupaciji temelječi praksi. Izboljšave bi po njihovem mnenju lahko dosegli z več sodelovanja, izobraževanja in promocije. Zaključek: Raziskava kot ena izmed prvih razčleni delo delovnih terapevtov na domu ter prepoznava pomen Zbornice delovnih terapevtov Slovenije pri sodelovanju in promociji delovne terapije starejših na domu.Background: In Slovenia, demographic data and government legislation suggest the potential need for home-based occupational therapy services. However, there is little data available on professional provision for older people aged 65+. In addition, there is no data about the scope of occupational therapy services for this population in Slovenia. Methods: A survey questionnaire with three main topics was developed to address this gap in literature. This was distributed to Slovenian occupational therapists (n=7) who were identified as working with older people living at home. Data were presented using descriptive statistics. Results: The common features among participants were in the areas of interdisciplinary work, the application of occupational therapy models, goal setting and the use of standardised assessments. Discussion: The participants recognised client-centred, creative and occupation-based practice as important areas of professional focus. Increased professional cooperation and development, including enhanced promotion prospects could improve this field of practice. Conclusions: This study is one of the first to describe the existing scope of this area of practice. It also recognises the importance of the national Occupational Therapy Association in promoting the professional cooperation

    Effect of hearing intervention on communicative function: A secondary analysis of the ACHIEVE randomized controlled trial

    Background The Aging and Cognitive Health Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE) Study was designed to determine the effects of a best-practice hearing intervention on cognitive decline among community-dwelling older adults. Here, we conducted a secondary analysis of the ACHIEVE Study to investigate the effect of hearing intervention on self-reported communicative function.Methods The ACHIEVE Study is a parallel-group, unmasked, randomized controlled trial of adults aged 70–84 years with untreated mild-to-moderate hearing loss and without substantial cognitive impairment. Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to a hearing intervention (audiological counseling and provision of hearing aids) or a control intervention of health education (individual sessions with a health educator covering topics on chronic disease prevention) and followed semiannually for 3 years. Self-reported communicative function was measured with the Hearing Handicap Inventory—Elderly Screening version (HHIE-S, range 0–40, higher scores indicate greater impairment). Effect of hearing intervention versus control on HHIE-S was analyzed through an intention-to-treat model controlling for known covariates.Results HHIE-S improved after 6-months with hearing intervention compared to control, and continued to be better through 3-year follow-up. We estimated a difference of −8.9 (95% CI: −10.4, −7.5) points between intervention and control groups in change in HHIE-S score from baseline to 6 months, −9.3 (95% CI: −10.8, −7.9) to Year 1, −8.4 (95% CI: −9.8, −6.9) to Year 2, and − 9.5 (95% CI: −11.0, −8.0) to Year 3. Other prespecified sensitivity analyses that varied analytical parameters did not change the observed results.Conclusions Hearing intervention improved self-reported communicative function compared to a control intervention within 6 months and with effects sustained through 3 years. These findings suggest that clinical recommendations for older adults with hearing loss should encourage hearing intervention that could benefit communicative function and potentially have positive downstream effects on other aspects of health
