TRYING TO UNDERSTAND DIGITAL ART IN THE POST-TRUTH ERA THROUGH BAUDRILLARD'S SIMULATION HYPERREALISM: BEEPLE CASE
Jean Baudrillards' simulation hyperreality is an important theory in that it is able to foresee the spirit of the age we live in by examining the perception of reality of modern society and the effects of increasing simulation. According to this theory, simulations created through new media, communication and technology tools change the way people perceive reality. In this form of perception, where reality is replaced by signs and indicators, the relationship between reality and simulation becomes ambiguous and simulation replaces reality after a while. In this context, simulation hyperreality summarizes today's social structure and the changing perception of artworks by emphasizing the complex relationship between reality and representation. In this context, Mike Winkelmann's works in NFT format, known as Beeple, have parallels with Baudrillard's theory of simulation hyperreality in terms of reflecting the spirit of the age. The research focuses on understanding and explaining Beeple's digital works through this parallelism. These works, which have political, ironic, provocative and critical content, are considered important in terms of their remarkable implications on the simulative perception of reality in the 21st century. In this descriptive study, qualitative research techniques were utilized after the literature review and visual content analysis method was used as purposive sampling, as well as affinity sampling, typical case sampling methods. In this context, the research aims to create an original text that will contribute to the field in the context of verbal and visual disciplines
Relationship of self-efficacy and physical activity with cognitive level in older adults with type 2 diabetes
Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the mental, self-efficacy, and physical activity levels of older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and examine the factors affecting the cognitive level. Materials and Methods: This descriptive correlational study was designed with a sample of 170 older adults. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Standardized Mini-Mental Test (SMMT), the Type 2 Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE). Results: The mean cognitive level score of the participants was 22.99 /- 5.36. It was found that the total physical activity score, total self-efficacy score, and the self-efficacy sub-dimensions of diet and diabetic foot control, medical treatment, and physical exercise explained 84.9 of the variance in cognitive level (Adjusted R2 0.849). A statistically significant difference was found in total physical activity, total self-efficacy, and the self-efficacy sub-dimensions of diet and diabetic foot control, medical treatment, and physical exercise between older adults with and without cognitive impairment. These influential factors were found to explain 89.2 of the variance in cognitive level. Conclusion: Total physical activity, overall self-efficacy, and self-efficacy sub-dimension scores were found to influence the cognitive levels of older adults. Thus, risk groups can be identified among elderly individuals with Type 2 DM regarding cognitive levels, allowing for targeted monitoring of these individuals. The results of this study may offer valuable insights for planning interventions aimed at enhancing self-efficacy and physical activity, both of which are associated with cognitive levels
YouTube videos as an information source about exercises for temporomandibular disorders
Background. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular condi-tions that affect the muscles, joints and associated structures of the stomatognathic system. Objectives. This study aimed to evaluate the quality and reliability of publicly available English-language videos on YouTube about TMD exercises, and to examine the video sources and professional groups responsible for the creation of the videos. Material and methods. The quality and reliability of the YouTube videos related to TMD exercises were evaluated using the DISCERN score, the global quality scale (GQS) and the JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) score. Results. Of the 121 videos evaluated, 30 (24.8) were uploaded by professional organizations, 49 (40.5) by health information websites, and 42 (34.7) were uploaded by independent users. Professional organizations had a significantly higher number of subscribers, likes, comments, and views than healthcare webpages and independent users (p < 0.001). The duration of videos uploaded by independent users was significantly longer than that of videos uploaded by healthcare webpages (p 0.018). With regard to the profession of the video narrators, the unspecified group exhibited significantly lower JAMA (p < 0.001), GQS (p 0.011) and DISCERN scores (p 0.002) compared to chiropractors, physiotherapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The JAMA scores for physicians, personal trainers and chiropractors were significantly lower than those for other healthcare professionals (p < 001). The JAMA score was positively correlated with the GQS (r 0.469, p < 0.001) and DISCERN (r 0.505, p < 0.001) scores. Similarly, the DISCERN score was positively correlated with the GQS score (r 0.924, p < 0.001). Conclusions. Despite the abundance of video content on YouTube about TMD exercises, the quality of these videos is low, and their reliability is questionable. © by Author(s)
Azimuthal anisotropy of jet particles in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN5.02 TeV
The azimuthal anisotropy of particles associated with jets (jet particles) at midrapidity is measured for the first time in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at root sNN 5.02 TeV down to transverse momentum (p(T)) of 0.5 GeV/c and 2 GeV/c, respectively, with ALICE. The results obtained in p-Pb collisions are based on a novel three-particle correlation technique. The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v(2) in high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions is positive, with a significance reaching 6.8 sigma at low p(T), and its magnitude is smaller than in semicentral Pb-Pb collisions. In contrast to the measurements in Pb-Pb collisions, the v(2) coefficient is also found independent of p(T) within uncertainties. Comparisons with the inclusive charged-particle v(2) and with AMPT calculations are discussed. The predictions suggest that parton interactions play an important role in generating a non-zero jet-particle v(2) in p-Pb collisions, even though they overestimate the reported measurement. These observations shed new insights on the understanding of the origin of the collective behaviour of jet particles in small systems such as p-Pb collisions, and provide significant stringent new constraints to models
Enhancing nutritional care in palliative care units: assessing nurse knowledge and quality perception in enteral nutrition practices
Background Adequate, balanced, and individualized nutrition, planned according to the patients' life expectancy in palliative care units, is crucial for maintaining essential functions. Aim To determine the knowledge levels of nurses working in palliative care units regarding enteral nutrition practices and their perceptions of nutritional care quality in their units. Methods This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 25 palliative care units located in Izmir, T & uuml;rkiye, between June and September 2022. The study sample consisted of 205 nurses working in palliative care units. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, an Enteral Nutrition Practices Knowledge Form, and the Nurses' Perceived Nutrition Care Quality Assessment Scale. The STROBE checklist was also utilized. Results The study found that the majority of participating nurses (94.6) were female, with 78.5 holding bachelor's degrees. The median knowledge score for enteral nutrition: 15 (range: 2-27), perceived care quality score: 36 (range: 9-45). Those with enteral nutrition training had significantly higher knowledge scores (p < .001); palliative care certificate showed no difference (p .846). Nurses lacking nutrition counseling knowledge had lower perceived care quality scores (p .001). Monthly tube feeding applications correlated positively with knowledge scores (r .173, p .013), unlike professional experience duration (p .126) and time spent in palliative care (p .839). Conclusion Nurses working in the palliative care unit find the quality of nutrition care provided to patients in their clinics to be sufficient, and the level of knowledge regarding enteral nutrition is at a moderate level. However, in questions related to nursing care such as fluid requirements during enteral nutrition with enteral solutions that affect both nutritional care and medical treatment, maintaining the opening of the jejunostomy tube, and enteral drug administration, correct response rates were low. Low correct response rates on specific issues highlight a need for targeted educational interventions
Comparative Study of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization and Massage on Neck Pain
Neck pain is one of the most common problems. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization and Massage are commonly used methods in the treatment of neck pain. The frequency of application of these methods affects the treatment results. At this point, we reported in our previous study that a single session of IASTM application had an acute effect on pain and joint position sense (Gercek et al., 2023). We have carefully reviewed the recent article by Pritty et al. (Prity et al., 2024) and would like to offer some comments, particularly regarding the program duration presented in Table 1. While the reference to our study in the article states a 6-week program duration (Gercek et al., 2023), our study examined the acute effects of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) in individuals with chronic neck pain. Furthermore, in addition to Visual Analog Scale (VAS) as an outcome measure, we also assessed joint position errors using the Cervical Range of Motion (CROM) device. These misunderstandings and omissions must be taken into account, as it is important to ensure the correct flow of information and clarity about the scope of the research
Are Turkish Midwifery Students Well-Prepared for the Profession? Assessing Their Self-Confidence Levels and Effective Factors; [Türk Ebelik Öğrencileri Mesleğe İyi Hazırlanıyor mu? Özgüven Düzeyleri ve İlişkili Faktörlerin Değerlendirilmesi]
Objective: To determine the self‐confidence levels of midwifery students in line with the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) competencies they are expected to possess before graduation and to explore effective factors. Methods: Descriptive and cross‐sectional online survey design was used among quantitative research methods. The online survey link was spread through social media. From March to June 2020, 763 midwifery students completed a survey on demographic characteristics and rated their confidence for essential midwifery skills listed by ICM. Results: Among the subscales, the highest average belonged to postpartum care (3.32 ± 0.66) and the lowest average to intrapartum care (2.94 ± 0.59). The students reported having less self‐confidence in obstetrics emergencies, risky delivery, and neonatal care. The difference between descriptive characteristics and the ICM competencies subscales was found to be statistically significant (p<.05; for each). The groups with the highest arithmetic average creating statistically significant differences were students aged 22 years, those attending foundation universities, those with work experience, those that had attended 50 or more births, and those that had engaged in eight or more clinical practices. Conclusion: Overall, the research findings emphasize the need for significant improvements in midwifery education and highlight the importance of practical experience in enhancing students' self-confidence. © 2024, Ataturk Universitesi.
