COVID-19 in pictures of preschoolers
This study, it is aimed to determine the COVID-19 perceptions of 39-72 months old children attending preschool through the pictures they draw. The research was carried out with the document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 49 children aged between 39 and 72 months who attend preschool in Denizli city center. Research data were collected from the pictures drawn by children in preschool about COVID-19. In the study, the children were also asked to describe what they drew in the picture. The expressions of the children describing their pictures were recorded by the researcher. In the results of the research, it is seen that the COVID-19 drawings in the pictures are quite similar to the images that can often be found in the press. It was determined that the children included concepts related to COVID-19 (mask, distance, cleaning, etc.) in their pictures. Children reflected their aspirations with colors due to the deprivation they experienced during the COVID-19 period. According to the results of the research, it was determined that girls use more optimistic elements in their paintings than boys
Teachers’ epistemological beliefs and lifelong learning tendencies: A correlational study
The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between teachers’ epistemological beliefs and lifelong learning tendencies. The research was carried out according to the quantitative method and was designed in the correlational survey model. The sample of the study consisted of 284 teachers teaching in a district of Bursa in the spring term of the 2020-2021 academic year and selected according to the simple random sampling method, one of the probability sampling types. Data were obtained with the “Epistemological Belief Scale” and the “Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale”. The data were analyzed with the SPSS v.22 software package. During the analysis process, the descriptive statistical values of the data were examined; Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were performed. It has been determined that the highest mean score of the teachers in the sub-dimensions of epistemological beliefs is in Belief that Learning Depends on Effort, and that their highest mean score in the sub-dimensions of lifelong learning tendencies is in Openness to Improvement. A moderate and positive significant correlation has been found between “Belief that Learning Depends on Effort”, one of the sub-dimensions of epistemological beliefs, and both the “Willingness to Learn” and “Openness to Improvement” sub-dimensions of lifelong learning tendencies, at the highest level. Thus, it is suggested that teachers should be supported to improve their epistemological beliefs and, accordingly, to improve themselves more through lifelong learning
Association of accessory sphenoidal septum with protrusions of sphenoid sinus
Purpose Accessory sphenoidal septum (ASS) is a septal variation that exists in addition to the primary septum of the sphenoid sinus and can be found in or near anatomically essential structures. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between protrusions of vital structures around the sphenoid sinus and the ASSs. Methods This cross-sectional retrospective study is based on the analysis of CBCT scans of 314 patients in axial, coronal, and sagittal planes with 0.2–0.3 slice thicknesses. Optic nerve (ON), internal carotid artery (ICA), both ON and ICA, maxillary nerve (MN), vidian canal (VN) and ASSs were detected, and the relationship between protrusions of these vital anatomical structures and ASS was evaluated. Results Statistically signifcant relationship was observed between the right Type 1 ON protrusion (p<0.05) and left Type 1 ON protrusion (p=0.001); left Type 3 ON protrusion (p<0.05); right Type 4 ON protrusion (p<0.05) and ASS. Statistically signifcant relationship was also observed between the right ICA protrusion and ASS (p<0.05). The right Type 1 VN protrusion (p=0.001); left Type 2 VN protrusion (p<0.001); right and left Type 3 VN protrusions (p<0.001) were found to be signifcantly associated with the ASS. Conclusions ASSs have signifcant associations with some protrusions, and they tend to cause potentially severe complications in endoscopic sinus surgery. This variability requires a comprehensive understanding of regional sphenoid sinüs anatomy with detailed three-dimensional tomographic imaging
Impact of information intervention on stochastic hepatitis B model and its variable-order fractional network
This paper aims at analyzing the dynamical behavior of a SIR hepatitis B epidemic stochastic model via a novel approach by incorporating the effect of information interventions and random perturbations. Initially, we demonstrate the positivity and global existence of the solutions. Afterward, we derive the stochastic threshold parameter Rs, followed by the fact that this number concludes the transmission of hepatitis B from the population. By increasing the intensity of noise, we get Rs less than one, inferring that ultimately hepatitis B will lapse. While decreasing the intensity of noise to a sufficient level, we have Rs> 1. For the case Rs> 1 , adequate results for the presence of stationary distribution are achieved, showing the prevalence of hepatitis B. The present study also involves the derivation of the necessary conditions for the persistence of the epidemic. Finally, the main theoretical solutions are plotted through simulations. Discussion on theoretical and numerical results shows that utilizing random perturbations and information interventions have a pronounced impact on the syndrome’s dynamics. Furthermore, since most communities interact with each other, and the disease spread rate is affected by this factor, a new variable-order fractional network of the stochastic hepatitis B model is offered. Subsequently, this study will provide a robust theoretical basis for comprehending worldwide SIR stochastic and variable-order fractional network-related case studies
Dendrogram for Anthropometric and Biomechanical Variables Causing Foot Deformities by Using Hierarchical Cluster Analysis: A Cross-Sectional Study
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with pathomechanical conditions and to
determine the clustering tendency of the variables by dendrogram.
Methods: The cross-sectional study was carried out with 108 physiotherapy students aged 21.36 § 1.35 years. The
variables included in the study were quadriceps (Q), subtalar, and valgus angles and medial longitudinal arch (MLA)
and hallux valgus angles. The MLA and metatarsal width were measured and navicular drop tests performed under
weighted and nonweighted conditions. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to determine the clustering tendency of
the variables and see how these clusters might converge.
Results: Two main clusters of variables were obtained using hierarchical cluster analysis. In the first main cluster, the
weighted and nonweighted metatarsal widths of the left and right sides, age, hallux valgus angle, and subtalar
pronation angles of the left and right sides were found to be significantly related to each other. In the second main
cluster, the weighted and nonweighted MLA, knee valgus and Q angles, weight, body mass index, weighted and
nonweighted navicular drop values, gender, and height were found to be significantly related to each other.
Conclusion: The relationships between variables such as MLA, hallux valgus angles, knee valgus and Q angles,
weight, body mass index, weighted and nonweighted navicular drop values, gender, and height seem to be associated
with pathomechanical conditions. (J Chiropr Med 2022;21;108-11

Effectiveness of augmented reality-based applications on liquid measurement theme in mathematics course: An experimental study
This research examines augmented reality-based applications prepared for primary school third grade students concerning academic achievement and anxiety in a mathematics course. A quasi-experimental design, one of the experimental research designs, with a pretest-posttest control group was preferred in this study. The research group of the research consisted of 26 students attending grade 3 in a school in Siirt during the 2020-2021 academic year. Participants were determined as two different groups, 13 of which were experimental and 13 of which were control groups. In the research, AR-based applications were designed for various gains aimed at the "Liquid measurement" theme in the mathematics course, and these applications were presented to the students through the tablet. These applications were conducted during five weeks, including pre and post-test. Research data were collected through data sets obtained from achievement test and anxiety scale that were carried out before and after the application. Findings of the research indicate that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group. It was found that augmented reality-based applications increased the academic achievement of the experimental group students and reduced their anxiety levels concerning the mathematics lesson
Long-term survival effects of preoperative breast mri in patients with breast-conserving surgery
The benefit of breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is unclear. Our study compared breast cancer patients with and without preoperative breast MRI and their long-term oncologic outcomes are reported. A total of 1378 BCS cases with early breast cancer between 1996 and 2017 were reviewed. Patients with carcinoma in situ or neoadjuvant treatment or having breast MRI after tumor excision were excluded. Of 1378 patients, 270 (19.5%) had preoperative MRI. There were no significant differences regarding T and N stage and molecular subtypes between the groups. Surgical margins were significantly wider in the breast MRI group. Five-year overall survival (OS) was 96.9% in the MRI group and 94.3% in the control group, and this difference was not significant (p=0.11). Five-year local-regional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) was not significantly different either (98.8% and 96.5%, respectively, p=0.41). When analyses were repeated only for patients with hormone receptor-negative or triple-negative breast cancer, there was still no significant difference in OS, LRFS, or disease-free survival. In conclusion, MRI does not seem necessary in all patients undergoing BCS. New prospective randomized controlled trials are needed to determine appropriate use of preoperative MRI and its effects on oncologic outcomes in early breast cancer patients
The role of emergency departments in cross-contamination: The case of VRE
Abstract. Colonized surfaces, equipment, individuals, and infected patients can be sources for the hospital spread of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), which is one of the important nosocomial pathogens. The basic epidemiological tools for the prevention and control of hospital-acquired infections are the typing methods. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) is a highly discriminating method used frequently to detect clonal associations in epidemics and hospital-acquired VRE infections. This study aimed to investigate the presence of cross-contamination, which service or services come to the forefront in case of possible cross-contamination and clonal relationship between VRE strains isolated from rectal swab, clinical and environmental swab samples taken in two different periods in various clinics of Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty Hospital by PFGE method. A total of 125 VREs isolated in two different periods were included in the study. Rectal and environmental swab samples were inoculated on Enterococcosel agar and sodium azide broth, urine samples were inoculated on chromogenic agar, and other clinical samples were inoculated on 5% sheep blood agar and incubated for 18-24 hours. VITEK 2 Compact automation system GP panel (bioMerieux, MarcyL'Etoile, France) was used for the species identification of catalase-negative, gram-positive colonies and disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) gradient tests were used to determine vancomycin susceptibility. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction was used to search for vanA and vanB resistance genes in isolates identified as VRE, and PFGE was used to determine clonal association. All isolates were identified as Enterococcus faecium with the vanA resistance gene. It was shown that PFGE clones were divided into six types with 65% similarity (A-F), and in this polyclonal spread, the major type was type A, which contained 108 isolates in 37 subtypes existed in the hospital for years. In patients from whom similar isolates were obtained, the high rate of hospitalizations in the same emergency room or in different emergency services in the same building drew attention. Our results showed that the presence of VRE was established in our hospital, new isolates were added from time to time, and there was a cross-contamination. It was observed that emergency services, where infection control measures were neglected due to working conditions, were among the high-risk areas for VRE contamination. In order to better understand the importance of emergency services in cross-contamination, it would be useful to conduct surveillance studies among patients hospitalized in emergency services and monitor the rate of VRE in the services where positive patients were transferred
