Observation of optical gain from aqueous quantum well heterostructures in water
Although achieving optical gain using aqueous solutions of colloidal nanocrystals as a gain medium is exceptionally beneficial for bio-optoelectronic applications, the realization of optical gain in an aqueous medium using solution-processed nanocrystals has been extremely challenging because of the need for surface modification to make nanocrystals water dispersible while still maintaining their gain. Here, we present the achievement of optical gain in an aqueous medium using an advanced architecture of CdSe/CdS@CdxZn1-xS core/crown@gradient-alloyed shell colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) with an ultralow threshold of similar to 3.4 mu J cm(-2) and an ultralong gain lifetime of similar to 2.6 ns. This demonstration of optical gain in an aqueous medium is a result of the carefully heterostructured CQWs having large absorption cross-section and gain cross-section in addition to inherently slow Auger recombination in these CQWs. Furthermore, we show low-threshold in-water amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from these aqueous CQWs with a threshold of 120 mu J cm(-2). In addition, we demonstrate a whispering gallery mode laser with a low threshold of similar to 30 mu J cm(-2) obtained by incorporating films of CQWs by exploiting layer-by-layer approach on a fiber. SOME COMBINATORIAL ASPECTS OF BI-PERIODIC INCOMPLETE HORADAM SEQUENCES

In this paper, we provide some combinatorial interpretations of bi-periodic incomplete Horadam numbers by using the weighted tilings approach. How to improve the design of experimental studies in computing education: Evidence from the international assessments
Cluster randomized trials are frequently used in educational research for methodological reasons. This study aims to improve the efficiency of cluster randomized trials on computer/information literacy and computational thinking. The study employs a two-level hierarchical linear model to estimate (i) intraclass correlation coefficients, (ii) the amount of explained variances given selected predictors, and (iii) minimum detectable effect sizes given the set of plausible scenarios. Two data cycles from the International Computer and Information Study were used. The covariates at the student level are gender, interest in ICT, parents' highest education level, ICT self-efficacy, and experience with computers. The covariates at school/teacher level are teacher's ICT use, ratio of school size to the number of computers for student use, availability of ICT resources at school, approximate teacher age, and ICT self-efficacy. Findings showed that the most precise effect could be measured when student and teacher/school covariates are both adopted. Lastly, it was revealed that increasing the number of schools is effective to get the most precise effect
Synthesis, Structural Investigation, Hirshfeld Surface Analysis, and Biological Evaluation of N-(3-Cyanothiophen-2-yl)-2-(thiophen-2yl)acetamide
In this study, a novel heterocyclic amide derivative, N-(3-cyanothiophen- 2-yl)-2-(thiophen- 2-yl)acetamide (I), was obtained by reacting 2-aminothiophene-3-carbonitrile with activated 2-(thiophen-2-yl)acetic acid in a N-acylation reaction and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopic studies, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The crystal packing of I is stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot N and N-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds. In addition, I was investigated computationally using the density functional theory (DFT) method with the B3LYP exchange and correlation functions in conjunction with the 6311++G(d,p) basis set in the gas phase. Fukui function (FF) analysis was also carried out. Electrophilicity-based charge transfer (ECT) method and charge transfer (Delta N) were computed to examine the interactions between I and DNA bases (such as guanine, thymine, adenine, and cytosine). The most important contributions to the Hirshfeld surface are H center dot center dot center dot H (21%), C center dot center dot center dot H (20%), S center dot center dot center dot H (19%), N center dot center dot center dot H (14%), and O center dot center dot center dot H (12%). An ABTS antioxidant assay was used to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant activity of I. The compound exhibited moderate antioxidant activity. The antimicrobial activity of the title molecule was investigated under aseptic conditions, using the microdilution method, against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, and it also demonstrated significant activity against yeasts (Candida glabrata ATCC 90030, Candida krusei ATCC 34135). Genel Muhasebe Dersi Alan Sağlık Yönetimi Bölümü Öğrencilerinin Ders Hakkındaki Metaforik Algıları: Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi Örneği
Çalışmanın amacı, sağlık yönetimi bölümündeki genel muhasebe dersi alan öğrencilerin muhasebe dersi ile ilgili sahip oldukları duygu ve düşüncelerinin, renk, hayvan, besin türü, mevsim, oyun, çiçek ve eşya metaforları aracılığıyla ortaya konulmasıdır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim çalışma deseni kapsamında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma, 2019-2020 öğretim yılının güz döneminde (Kasım ayı) Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi Sağlık Yönetimi bölümünde öğrenimini sürdüren ve muhasebe dersi alan öğrencilere anket uygulanarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında genel muhasebe dersi ile ilgili metaforları, “siyah, gri, brokoli, pırasa, kedi, yılan, kış, sonbahar, okey, satranç, kaktüs, papatya, hesap makinesi, süs eşyası” olduğu ve öğrencilerin muhasebe algılarında ise “muhasebe zor, sıkıcı ama aynı zamanda asil olduğunu, gerekli ve faydalı bir ders olduğu, zorla sevdirilmeye çalışıldığı algıları ön plana çıkmıştır.Muhasebe dersinde daha fazla örnek çözülmesi, bilgisayarlı ortamda öğrenim sürecinin gerçekleşmesi, daha az sınıflarda eğitimin yapılması önerilebilir. Öğrencilerin metaforik algıları yönünde kohort çalışma yapılabilmeli ve değişim ortaya konulmalıdır
The Effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Distance Education in Higher Education: A Bibliometric Analysis Study
This study aimed to examine the COVID-19 effect on distance education in higher education in the pre-COVID-19 pandemic (January to November 2019) and postCOVID-19 pandemic periods (December 2019 and January to December 2020). Two different meta-data sets, consisting of 580 articles for the pre-COVID-19 period and 746 for the post-COVID-19 period, obtained by querying the Web of Science database, were used for analysis. SciMAT and Vosviewer software were used for bibliometric analysis. Publications from the two different periods were compared according to keywords, words from abstracts, based on the criteria using co-occurrence and co-word analysis. The results of the keyword co-occurrence analysis show that the keywords e-learning and online learning were used more in the post-COVID- 19 period compared to the pre-pandemic period. In the pre-pandemic period, the thematic trend of academic studies largely aligned with students and satisfaction. However, in the post-pandemic period, the research trend was mostly toward such themes as video lectures and web 2.0 technologies. The research results show that the impact of COVID-19 was reflected in the research published in the post-pandemic period, with the interest in e-learning and online learning increasing in higher education, alongside a trend towards investigating the delivery of instruction rather than conducting student-centered studies
DEMOKRAT PARTİ DÖNEMİNDE SANAYİLEŞME FAALİYETLERİNİN GÜNLÜK HAYATA YANSIMALARI
Demokrat Parti iktidara geldiğinde, her alanda önceki iktidardan farklı politikalar uygulayacağını ifade etmiştir. Bunlardan biri de sanayileşme faaliyetleri olmuştur. Tek Parti döneminde devlet ağırlıklı bir sanayileşme politikası uygulandığı halde, Demokrat Parti bu alanda önceliği özel sektöre vermiş ve bu durum hükümet programlana da yazılmıştır. Başlangıçta, mülkiyeti devlete ait olan sanayi tesisleri özel sektöre devredilmeye başlanmışsa da, özel sektörün yeterli sermaye birikimi, teknolojik alt yapı ve iş tecrübesi gibi alanlarda yeterli olmadığı görüldüğünden, bu politikadan vazgeçilmiş ve Demokrat Parti de devlet eliyle pek çok sanayi tesisi açmak zorunda kalmıştır. Bu gelişmelere paralel olarak iş hayatı ile ilgili problemler de ortaya çıkmıştır. Sanayileşme ile birlikte tarımdan çekilen nüfusa yeterli iş imkânları oluşturulamamış, işçi sayıları ihtiyaç duyulan seviyelere getirilememiş, işçilerin ücret ve diğer sosyal haklarında yeterli ölçüde iyileştirmeler yapılamamıştır. Demokrat Parti iktidarının ortalarından itibaren sanayi üretiminde düşüşler yaşanmaya başlanmıştır. Bu makalede, şimdiye kadar yapılan çalışmalara ilâve olarak Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Zabıt Cerîdesi’nden elde edilen bilgiler ışığında, Demokrat Parti döneminde sanayileşme faaliyetlerinin günlük hayata yansımaları incelenerek literatüre katkı sağlanmıştır
Evaluation of weight loss and some sensory properties in quail eggs coated using different solutions (molasses, molasses + agar, molasses + glycerine, whey)
This study was carried out to determine the effects of different coating materials on weight loss (%) and sensory properties of daily (fresh) quail eggs. For this purpose, quail eggs were coated with molasses, molasses + agar, molasses + glycerine and whey and they were stored at room temperature. No coating material was used in the control group. It was determined that there was a very significant difference between the groups in terms of egg weight loss at all storage times (1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week, 4th week) (
Detection of Cadmium Genotoxicity on Fatty Acids Desaturase-2 Genes in Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius)
16L0430009Environmental pollution negatively affects the life activities of the living things of the environment and causes structural damages on the all living and inanimate things. The extent of the damage caused by human-made pollution to nature and the environment is increasing day by day. Heavy metal pollution is one of the most important causes of environmental pollution. Cadmium, which is one of the most important pollutants, is a highly toxic metal and is not used by living things, even in trace amounts. Cadmium is also a very toxic heavy metal for plants. As with other heavy metals, it triggers oxidative stress by increasing the production of reactive oxygen species in plant cells, causing DNA damage and abnormalities in DNA and RNA production. Safflower is a very important oil plant with high economic value and intensive use as a raw material in many sectors. In this study, in experimental groups prepared at different cadmium concentrations, the negative/genotoxic effects of cadmium on the mRNA expression levels of the FAD2 (FAD2-6, FAD2-7, FAD2-11) genes, which is responsible for the conversion of oleic acid to linoleic acid in different safflower varieties (Balci, Bdyas-04, Linas and Asol) has been determined by quantitative Real-Time PCR method. As a result, it has been detected that the decrease firstly in the expression of FAD2 genes at increasing cadmium concentrations in all cultivars. And also, re-increase at 160 and 320 mg L-1 which can be considered as critical points, have been accepted as an indication that the defense mechanism against stress is activated and FAD2 genes play a role in the defense against stress. In conclusion, the obtained data showed that FAD2 genes in safflower cultivars not only in the conversion of fatty acids but also play a critical role in defense against cadmium heavy metal stress.[EN] Ankara University Scientific Research Uni
Lise giriş sınavının İngilizce müfredatının uygulanmasına etkisi
İngilizce eğitim programları yeni trendlere ve yaklaşımlara ayak uyduracak şekilde güncellenir. Müfredat tasarımcıları müfredata yeni değişiklikleri ekler. Hizmet öncesi ve hizmet içi öğretmenler bilgilendirilir ve yenilikleri sınıflarında nasıl uygulayacakları öğretmenlere öğretilir. Yine de uygulama sürecinde bazı zorluklar ortaya çıkar. Öğretmenlerin öğrencilerini yüksek çıtalı sınavlara hazırlamaları beklendiğinden, öğretmenlerin İngilizce eğitim programları yeni trendlere ve yaklaşımlara ayak uyduracak şekilde güncellenir. Müfredat tasarımcıları müfredata yeni değişiklikleri sunar. Hizmet öncesi ve hizmet içi öğretmenler bilgilendirilmekte ve yenilikleri sınıflarında nasıl uygulayacakları öğretilmektedir. Bununla birlikte, uygulama sürecinde bazı zorluklar ortaya çıkar. Öğretmenlerin öğrencilerini yüksek riskli sınavlara hazırlamaları beklendiğinden, bu sınavlar hazırlık süreci nedeniyle öğretmenlerin derslerinde karşılaştıkları sorunlardan biridir. Bu nedenle bu çalışma, lise giriş sınavlarının İngilizce müfredatının uygulanması üzerindeki etkilerini belirlemek amacıyla hazırlanmıştır. Bu araştırmada benimsenen yöntembilimsel yaklaşım, öğretmenlerin görüşlerine dayalı karma bir yaklaşımdır. Ortaokullarda görev yapan 201 İngilizce öğretmeni sınıf içi uygulamalarıyla ilgili olan anketi doldurmuştur. Öğretmenler arasında 10 gönüllü öğretmenle not alınarak görüşme yapılmıştır. Veriler iki ayda toplanmıştır. Anket 11 maddeden oluşmaktadır ve anket sonrası uygulanan görüşme soruları 7 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Nicel verilerin toplanması için Covid-19 günlerinin can sıkıcı süreci nedeniyle internet araçları kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, lise giriş sınavlarının sınıflarda uygulanan yaklaşım ve yöntemlere ilişkin olumsuz etkilerinin olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca, sınıf içi uygulamalar değişik kademelerde farklılık göstermektedir. Yüksek riskli testlerin olumsuz ket vurma etkileri, İngilizce dilinin iletişimsel bir şekilde kullanılması açısından olumlu ket vurma etkilerine ağır basmaktadır.English language education programs are updated to keep up with the new trends and approaches. Curriculum designers introduce the novel changes into the curriculum. Pre-service and in-service teachers are informed and taught how to apply innovations in their classes. Nonetheless, some complications occur in the implementation process. Since the teachers are expected to prepare their students for the high-stakes exams, these exams are one of the problems that teachers face during their classes because of the preparation process. This study is therefore set out to determine the effects of high-school entrance exams on the implementation of the English curriculum. The methodological approach taken in this prevalent study is a mixed methodology based on the teachers' views. 201 EFL teachers working at lower secondary schools filled the questionnaire regarding their in-class practices. Among the teachers, 10 of the volunteer teachers are interviewed by taking ample notes. The data are collected within 2 months. The questionnaire has 11 items and the interview questions that are applied after the questionnaire encompass 7 items. To collect the quantitative data, web tools are utilized due to the vexatious process of Covid-19 days. The results of the current study reveal that the high-school entrance test has negative effects regarding the approaches and methods employed in the classes. Furthermore, the classroom practices differ in different grades. The negative washback effects of high-stakes tests outweigh the positive washback effects in terms of the use of English language in a communicative way
