The Impact of Mental Healthcare Access on Community Safety
Mental health illness is a pressing American public health concern. Approximately one in five Americans is diagnosed with a mental health condition.1 While cost, location, and physician shortage play a role in one’s access to mental healthcare, research is still determining the effects of mental healthcare access on community safety. Using County Health Rankings (CHR), we analyze the changes in mental health providers between 2016 and 2022 in Alabama and Massachusetts, two states with differing rankings in access to mental healthcare and firearm legislation. We then investigate how access to mental health providers affects community safety (firearm fatalities, suicide rates, and homicide rates). We use paired t-tests, unpaired t-tests, and enter method linear regression analysis to explore our research questions. Our results suggest a statistically significant (p\u3c0.005) increase in mental health providers in Alabama and Massachusetts between 2016 and 2022. However, these changes in mental health providers did not translate into statistically significant changes in community safety
Impact of Imidacloprid on Forebrain Mitochondrial Enzymatic Activities Ec50, Ic50 and Impacts of Mellissa Extracts
Neonicotinoids are new generation of neuroactive pesticides, used against a wide specter of insect species, and many non-target beings are affected with these pesticides’ impacts. Our work was focused on the impact of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mg/kg of Imidacloprid the nicotinergic neuronal pathway inhibitor (N-ACh receptors) on the activities of mitochondrial detoxification enzymes (Catalase, SOD, GST and GPx) and acetylcholine esterase (AchE) in forebrain region of Wistar rats. Direct impact on enzymes activities was measured and the IC50, EC50 with or without Mellissa extracts were investigated. Our results showed that the IC50 of imidacloprid on different enzymes are between [7.68 mg/kg - 10.02 mg/kg] CATIC50 = 9.09 mg/kg, SODIC50 = 8.45 mg/kg, GSTIC50 = 7.68 mg/kg, GPxIC50 = 9.41 mg/kg. EC50 of Mellissa extracts were investigated between 100 % inhibition and 0 % of each enzyme, CATEC50=34.7 mg/kg, SODEC50 = 43.92mg/kg, GSTEC50 = 41.66 mg/kg, GPxEC50 = 41.26 mg/kg. Acetylcholine amount and Acetylcholine esterase activity were assessed and the IC = 10.02 mg/kg, EC50 = 43.35 mg/kg. This investigation showed that the addition of antioxidant natural product was very benefic and neutralized the toxic effect of this pesticide

Analyzing the Correlation Between Water Violations and Hospitalization Rates
Unsafe water due to violations in water safety can result in illness and ultimately hospitalization. However, there is little data that analyzes regional rates of water violations and their correlation to hospitalization rates. This research aims to analyze the correlation between water violations and hospitalization rates between the Midwest, East and West Coasts, and between Ohio counties that use the Lake Erie water basin and those that use the Ohio River water basin. Methods include the use of data from County Health Rankings and the following statistical tests: paired and unpaired T-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation test. Results showed that although there are more water violations in Ohio counties that use the Lake Erie basin than those that use the Ohio River basin, overall, water violations in Ohio decreased from 2016 to 2022. When comparing water violations between different regions, there was a significant difference between all regions except for between East and Midwest states. Data also showed that counties in West Coast states had the highest percentage of water violations in 2022 (57%). There was no statistically significant correlation between water violations and hospitalization rates in Ohio counties using either Lake Erie or the Ohio River basin, or in East and West coast counties
Regional Disparities in Hispanic/Latino Health Outcomes: A Comparative Analysis of the Midwest and Top Hispanic Population States
Background: Hispanic/Latino communities in the United States face significant health disparities and poorer health outcomes compared to non-Hispanic whites. While previous research has documented these inequalities at the national level, it is unclear whether certain regions exhibit more substantial disparities than others. Hypothesis/Research Question: This study aims to investigate whether counties in Midwest states with higher rates of health inequalities and unfavorable outcomes have compared to counties in the top 3 states by Hispanic/Latino population percentage. Methods: Using County Health Rankings, we examined counties in Midwest states (Ohio, South Dakota, and North Dakota) and counties within high Latino population states (California, New Mexico, and Texas). We conducted independent samples t-tests and multiple linear regression analyses to compare health outcomes and assess predictors of health rankings between the two county groups. Results : We found a significant difference (p\u3c.001) in Health Outcomes rank between high Latino and Midwest states. Paired t-tests revealed significant Latino population increases in both high (p\u3c.001) and low (p\u3c.001) percentage states from 2016-2022. In CA/NM/TX, higher income (β=-.372, p\u3c.001) and college education (β=-.290, p\u3c.001) predicted better rankings, but higher Latino percentage (β=.155, p=.002) predicted poorer rankings. In OH/SD/ND, only income and education were significant predictors. There was a positive correlation between the percentage of the Hispanic/Latino population and the percentage of uninsured residents (Spearman\u27s rho = 0.166, p = 0.002). However, no significant correlation was found between the Hispanic/Latino population percentage and the ratio of population to primary care physicians or preventable hospitalization rates. Conclusion: Findings demonstrate regional health outcome disparities for Latino communities influenced by socioeconomic factors and healthcare access barriers. Targeted interventions addressing these inequities are critically needed

Impacts of Cruciferous Extracts on the Parasitism Efficiency of Diadegma Insulare; a Hymenopterous Parasitoid of the Diamondback Moth
Herbivore\u27s attack stimulates chemical production in the plants; that communicates with natural enemies (chemical communication) and urges them for help (i.e. cry-for-help phenomenon). Such chemicals play an important role to attract the parasitoids and increase the chances of host pests\u27 encounter. Current studies were performed to observe the extracts\u27 efficacy in order to attract the parasitoid (i.e. Diadegma insulare) and thereby increase the likelihood of encounter with the host pest (i.e. Plutella xylostella). Cruciferous cultivars\u27 extracts were developed and applied with artificial release of parasitoids under semi-field conditions. Findings revealed that extracts had the potential to enhance the parasitism efficiency of D. insulare against P. xylostella. However, non-significant impacts of the extracts were observed concerning the offspring sex ratio and adult longevities of the parasitoid. Cruciferous extracts of cauliflower and cabbage cultivars (i.e. White marble and Asha, respectively) with relatively high nitrogen and phosphorus; and low potassium contents were identified as the potential ones to be applied for enhancing the parasitism efficiency of D. insulare in cruciferous cultivars
Ameliorations of Olea Ferruginea Fruit Pulp Extract in CCl4 induced Testicular Pathology in Mice
In present study the testicular histo-ameliorations of wild olive (Olea ferruginea) fruit pulp extract (OFPE) against intra-gastric CCl4 exposure in mice was investigated. Thirty male albino mice were allocated into three groups of ten each: 1) Vehicle control (Vc); 2) CCl4 (C); and 3) CCl4+ Olea ferruginea (COf). All groups, except the Vc, were administered CCl4 (0.1mL of a 0.2mLkg−1 solution) in corn oil. Over the subsequent five days, the COf group received 0.1mL of Olea ferruginea plant extract (OFPE) daily, while the Vc and CCl4 groups were provided water in place of OFPE. Testes were recovered at day 7. Within the CCl4 group, there was significant misalignment of spermatogenic cells, such as spermatogonia, spermatocytes, spermatids, and tailless sperm heads, observed in the seminiferous tubules, along with a concomitant depletion of interstitial tissue. Partial recovery of the interstitial and spermatogonial density and realignment of spermatogenic cells were seen in COf group. Nevertheless, aggregates of dislocated spermatogenic cells were present in the middle of the seminiferous tubules. Micrometric analysis showed significant decrease (P \u3c 0.05) in cross-sectional area (CSA) of the seminiferous tubules in COf than the Vc and Cgroups. Contrary to the sperm tail length the CSA’s of spermatogenic cell were significantly higher in C than the Vc and COf groups. So results show that OFPE can rescue the ruined testicular parameters of CCl4 exposure
