Design and Development of a Pineapple Peeling Machine
The objective of this research aimed to design, modify and develop a manually operated cost effective pineapple peeling and coring machine with a reduced time of operation, easy to operate and maintain. The material of construction is stainless steel. The designed pineapple peeling and coring machine has two cylindrical cutting blades which simultaneously removes pineapple skin and core. Other components included; spring coring plate, core remover, and spring loaded handle. The peeling operation includes; cutting of crown and bottom of pineapple with a knife, placing pineapple on coring plate and applying pressure to spring loaded handle downward over the pineapple to operate cylindrical cutting blades, which removes skin and core. The data collected from machine evaluation was subjected to a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) test and means were separated using least significant difference (LSD) with sixteen samples of smooth leaf (cayenne) pineapple Specie used. The performance of pineapple peeling machine is primary founded on the peeling efficiency of the machine which is an arrangement between high cutting efficiency of peeling machine, weight of peel and core of pineapple, which is total weight removed and the time taken to peel. The result shows that the highest and most efficiency peeling time of pineapple by the machine was recorded at 11 seconds with 94.1 % efficiency, yielding a machine capacity of 327.6 Kg /hr. Hence the pineapple peeling machine can effectively peel pineapples. For more machine efficiency cutting blade should be adjustable
Comparative Performance of Modern Jumbo Maize Variety And Local Varieties in Fodder Production Under Different Nitrogen Levels
A trial was carried out at Cereal Crop Research Institute Pirsabak, Pakistan by employing a Randomized Complete Block design that was repeated thrice to investigate the performance of different varieties of maize (Jalal, Kaptan and Jumbo) under four nitrogen levels (N1= 0, N2= 100, N3= 150, and N4= 200 kg ha−1). Variation was observed among maize varieties that affected silking and milking days with variety Jumbo recording the longest duration (62 and 80, respectively). Variety Jumbo also had higher leaf number (11.5), SPAD value (47), leaf area index (LAI) (3.4), Plant height (221 cm) and stem diameter (3.22 cm). Similarly, green forage (67,777 kg ha−1) and dry matter yield (23,424 kg ha−1) were the highest for variety Jumbo. In contrast, protein content was observed higher for variety Kaptan while Jumbo and variety Jalal recorded higher fiber content. In terms of Nitrogen levels, silking (62) and milking days (83) were taken more by all the varieties when N4 was supplemented. Maximum and statistically at par leaf count, SPAD value and LAI were recorded with N3 and N4. Plant height and stem diameter was also higher with N3 (196 cm and 3.40 cm) and N4 (202 cm and 3.42 cm). N3 and N4 were linked to higher yields of green forage and dry matter, with N4 showing the improvement in protein and fiber content. Pearson’s correlation plot discovered positive correlation among all studied traits. The newly developed variety Jumbo, with the commencement of N3, is proposed for cultivation to obtain maximum fodder yield while maintaining economic feasibility
Positive Correlation of Smoking Percentage and Mentally Unhealthy Days in Ohio 2016-2022
There is substantial research regarding the negative physical side effects of smoking, such as increased risk of developing hypertension or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Smoking rates are substantially higher among those with a pre-existing mental illness (such as schizophrenia or generalized anxiety disorder)1. Additionally, second-hand smoke exposure among non-smokers has been attributed to an increased risk of developing symptoms of poor mental health (such as anxiety or depression)2,3. It has also been shown that smoking cessation leads to improved mental health4. However, there is limited research regarding the negative effects of smoking on mental health, especially in the state of Ohio, across rural and urban counties, and in comparison to surrounding states. This study aims to clarify these relationships and help guide further research in the field. This article will expose the relationships between these two variables that are ever-increasing in relevance and importance as well as provide direction for further research. County health rankings, a de-identified national database, was used to research these trends and associations. Data from 2022 was used when comparing the relationship between two variables. Data from 2016 and 2022 were used to track the short term changes. These years are especially interesting as they may highlight the changes from the COVID-19 pandemic. Spearman correlation, unpaired t-test, and ANOVA test were used to statistically analyze the data where appropriate. Smoking percent and mentally unhealthy days in Ohio significantly increased from 2016 to 2022. There are significant differences in smoking percent among adults and mentally unhealthy between Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Indiana
The Impact of Mental Health on Academic Performance in Ohio in 2022
Background: Previous research has shown a significant link between mental health issues and low academic performance. Our study explores the delicate connection between mental health issues and academic performance in Ohio school children, in particular, how the dynamic may differ between rural and non-rural communities. Methods: We utilized County Health Rankings data from the years 2016 and 2022 from all 88 counties in Ohio, which we further substratified as 44 rural and 44 non-rural counties. From CHR, we chose data categories to represent measures of academic performance, internalizing mental health problems, and access to mental health services, and utilized SPSS for data analysis. Results: While a weak but significant correlation between internalizing mental health problems and academic performance in reading and mathematics was observed, disparities persist in rural areas due in large part to limited access to mental health services. In addition, despite similarities in academic performance between rural and non-rural areas, lower high school graduation rates in rural counties underscores the long-term implications of untreated mental health issues. Conclusions: Our study highlights the significant impact of internalizing mental health factors on Ohio children’s academic outcomes, specifically in the context of geographic location and access to mental health care. We emphasize the need for collaborative efforts among leaders at both the state and community levels in Ohio in order to ensure equitable opportunities for the academic and emotional well-being of all children

There has been an observable disconnection between humans and natural environment in select Western cultures over the past 100 years. Reintegration of humanity and nature can be achieved through shifting to a sustainability-focused model of education and the teaching of reflection about natural experiences to children to equip them for sustainable living. Biophilic designs can continue to encourage this shift because the effects are immediately good for both physical and mental health. Green ergonomics can also encourage this reintegration by reducing the friction between the user and the technology in ways that encourage sustainable practices with ease. By combining these ideas, there may be a path forward with nature back in our everyday lives, which could improve the chances of sustainability practices becoming more prevalen
A Review on Role of Bacillus Species in Bio-Calcification: A Way Forward in Carbonate Precipitation
Bio-calcification, also known as microbiologically induced calcite precipitation, is a phenomenon involving the activity of the enzyme urease. A large number of soil microorganism exhibit urease-producing ability. The main purpose of this review article is to signify the calcium carbonate bio-precipitation by Bacillus species including Lysinibacillus sphaericus and Bacillus subtilis. They both precipitated calcite and the shape and size depending on the external and internal conditions like the type of culture medium and the bacterial strains that were used. The research group increased attentions toward MICP (microbial-induced carbonated precipitation) because of its eco-friendly application. Different bacterial strains had been reported to be isolated that could precipitate carbonate. Many bio-calcifying bacterial strains related to Bacillus species had been reported from the deep sea. NIOTVJ5 has been reported to show urease and calcite crystals activity similar to Bacillus thuringiensis. That strain could live under extreme conditions like high pressure in deep-sea and produce strong monogenic biofilm. EM (Electron Microscopy) and depressive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed the presence of calcium carbonate. The bacteria need calcium lactate, which reacts with the calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and that process, is known as bio-calcification
Assessment of the Genotoxic Effect of Pesticide (Profenophos and Cypermethrin) on Allium Cepa L. through Comet Assay
Pesticides are specially designed to control pests and help in increasing the yield of crops. This study aims to investigate the genotoxic effect of the major ingredients of commonly used pesticides (Profenophos and Cypermethrin) on Allium cepa L. in different regions of the province of Punjab, Pakistan. Profenophos and Cypermethrin pesticides are extensively used by local farmers. Six different dilutions of Profenophos and Cypermethrin pesticide ranging from, 0.5 ml/L, 1 ml/L, 1.5 ml/L, 2 ml/L, 2.5 ml/L and 3.0 ml/L were applied initially on seeds germination. Seeds grown in a 3.0 ml/L concentration showed a lower radical length percentage as compared to other dilutions. The radicle length of the 0.5 ml/L concentration was the same as in the control. Onion bulbs were grown in the sand to obtain roots later the onions were transferred into different dilutions of Profenophos and Cypermethrin for 72 hours. DNA was isolated through the modified CTAB method. The DNA damage was observed through the technique of comet assay. The tail DNA % (35.71±2.18) of the control group (simple tap water) was same as the tail DNA % (35.74±2.10) of 0.5 ml/L pesticide dilution. The moment of tail DNA % length showed that the DNA was damaged by the pesticide, The results indicated that the concentration of pesticides and exposure time have a deep effect on plants\u27 growth and development. Growing Urbanization in the Jammu Province of Jammu and Kashmir, India: an Environmental and Social Interpretation
Urbanization is a global phenomenon with profound implications for both physical and social landscapes and plays a noteworthy role in the progression and advancement of human civilizations. Urbanization influences and changes the social, economic, political, and traditionalorganization of a society. This paper examines the process and consequences of urbanization in the Jammu province of J&K India, focusing on its physical transformation and social dynamics. This study employs a descriptive research approach to investigate the multifaceted aspects of urbanization by synthesizing data from various sources, including demographic surveys, interviews, and spatial analysis. The study showed that Jammu province is gradually proceeding towards urbanization but many problems are surfaced in terms of both environmental and social perspectives such as environmental Pollution, destruction of habitat, loss of biodiversity, soil degradation, flash floods, random housing provisions, poverty, social unrest, criminality, joblessness, inadequate drainage, drug abuse, jumble lifestyle and culture etc. To keep away from the harmful effects of urbanization on the environment and social setup, there is a need for a planned and managed development that must be environmentally sustainable, economically, and socially beneficial
