    Impact of Climate Change on the Diversity and Abundance of Wintering Birds at a Northern African Wetland - Case Study of Oglat Eddaira Wetland (Naama, Western Algeria)

    The Mediterranean regions have been classified as the areas of the world most susceptible to the effects of environmental change. These regions are sensitive to drought and rising temperatures and with heightened aridity in the next several years. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of climate change on the diversity and abundance of wintering birds in the Oglat Eddaira wetland located in western Algeria and classified in the Ramsar list. This study is based on the comparison between some indices of biodiversity: species richness, abundance, Shannon-Weiner and Simpson Index, during the period 2015 to 2024 and interpret them according to the two important climatic factors (precipitation and temperature). The different treatments carried out reveal a perfect relationship between the indices studied of the diversity and abundance of the wintering avifauna in terms of species and population with the climatic regression. In addition, the study area has housed several species of avifauna that are threatened with extinction in the wild and will likely be in danger in the near future namely: Oxyura leucocephala, Aythya nyroca, Aythya ferina and Marmaronetta angustirostris

    Psychological Influence of Acne Vulgaris among Female Students of University of Poonch Rawalakot Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan

    This study aimed to assess the prevalence of acne vulgaris among female students at the University of Poonch, Rawalakot, and to evaluate its impact on their quality of life using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). A cross-sectional survey was conducted from July to August 2022, involving a total of 2000 female students. Out of these, 400 individuals were clinically diagnosed with acne vulgaris, indicating a prevalence rate of 20 %. The participants completed the DLQI questionnaire, which evaluates the psychological and social effects of dermatological conditions. The data obtained were analyzed to assess the influence of acne on various aspects of daily life, including social activities, emotional well-being, academic performance, clothing choices, and interpersonal relationships. Results revealed that 76 % of respondents reported itchy sores and painful skin, while 78.5 % felt embarrassed or self-conscious about their appearance. Additionally, 64.75 % indicated that their acne affected their willingness to engage in shopping and social gatherings, and 59.25 % modified their clothing choices due to acne. The DLQI scores showed that 20 % of participants experienced an extremely large impact on their quality of life, 34 % a very large impact, 49 % a moderate impact, 12 % a low impact, and only 3 % reported no effect. These findings underscore the significant psychosocial burden of acne vulgaris among young women and highlight the need for comprehensive treatment approaches that include both medical management and psychological support. The DLQI proved to be an effective tool for quantifying the broader impacts of acne on individuals’ lives

    Review on Treatment Outcome of Patient with Acute Bacterial Meningitis in Pediatrics

    Antibiotic treatment improves outcomes of treatment, but extensively available antibiotics efficiency is vulnerable by globally appearance of development of multidrug-resistant bacteria. An infectious etiology arises, such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, mycobacteria, or parasites, or be related with cancer, autoimmunity, or medications reaction. The causative organism was recognized by most patients treated with antibiotics, culture of the CSF and blood, by countercurrent immune-electrophoresis of fluids. Neisseria meningitidis, Hemophilus influenzae b and Streptococcus pneumoniae are the commonest causes of bacterial meningitis. Bacterial meningitis has adequately extreme in the pediatrics people of developing countries. Many people with bacterial meningitis don\u27t have any permanent problems as with quick treatment. Thus, with rapid treatment, some may have sensorineural hearing loss, seizures, brain injury and disabilities. The clinical indications include temperature, lethargy, asphyxia, rash and loss of consciousness. In older children, the more symptoms of chronic stiff, photophobia and headache are more common. The diagnosis of ABM recognized by clinical performance and results abnormal CSF, including elevated protein levels, polymorphonuclear-cell pleocytosis, and depressed glucose concentrations. Formulations of ceftriaxone are most available and reasonable and are effective against meningitis caused by chloramphenicol resistant bacteria and penicillin resistant. Infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae with condensed vulnerability to ceftriaxone is reported increasingly and replacements are too expensive (e.g., of vancomycin)

    The Write Voice: Using Professional Writing to Preserve Cultural Heritage

    The goal of this capstone was to become familiar with the different voices that public history professionals take on in order to successfully preserve their collections and advocate for community histories. To gain experience with the internally focused informative voice, an orientation manual was written and digitized for the Sinclair College Archives, a local Dayton archive in which student workers, interns, and future archives professionals are frequently trained on the basics of archival processing and arranging materials for public use. For that same institution, a grant opportunity was selected, and a narrative application was written to gain experience using an externally oriented voice as an advocate for public history funding

    Emerging Therapeutic Potential of Fisetin for Nephrotoxicity, Kidney Injury, and Nephropathy: A Systematic Review

    INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVE: Kidney diseases cause high morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study investigated the mechanistic effects of Fisetin (FIS) on nephrotoxicity, kidney injury, and nephropathy induced by drugs, toxic chemicals, diabetes, lupus, diet, ureteral obstruction, and ischemic situations. METHODS: To identify pertinent articles published before Oct 1, 2024, a comprehensive electronic search was performed across several databases, including MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. After establishing clear inclusion and exclusion criteria, studies that met the research objectives were selected. Data were extracted and analyzed, documenting study characteristics, methodologies, and biological mechanisms. RESULTS: Antioxidant benefits were evident with increased levels of endogenous antioxidant enzymes and NQO1, alongside reduced oxidative stress markers such as 8-OHdG and MDA. Enhanced mitochondrial function, including improved respiration, ATP synthesis, and antioxidant capacity, further supported cellular resilience. Anti-inflammatory effects were marked by reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, macrophage and neutrophil infiltration, and inhibited pathways like NF-κB and MAPK. Anti-apoptotic actions included decreased levels of pro-apoptotic proteins. FIS also reduced fibrotic markers and pathways such as TGF-β/SMAD, mitigating excessive ECM buildup. Additionally, modulation of metabolic pathways was observed, including decreased glucose and lipid profiles and improved insulin sensitivity. Kidney function and structural integrity were preserved with reduced levels of nephrotoxic agents. CONCLUSION: Preclinical studies revealed that FIS demonstrates promising protective effects against kidney toxicity, renal injury, diabetes, and lupus-induced nephropathy. However, more clinical studies are needed in this field to determine effective and safe doses

    The Biological Effects of Nano-curcumins against Drugs and Chemicals-Induced Nephrotoxicity

    Introduction/objective: Drug and chemical nephrotoxicity is a common cause of kidney disorders. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the recent progress in applying nanocurcumins (nano-CURs) to prevent and mitigate drug and chemical-induced nephrotoxicity, highlighting their underlying protective mechanisms and therapeutic potential. Methods: A comprehensive search of experimental and clinical studies was conducted in various databases, including Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane Library. The studies were analyzed for improvements in bioavailability, mechanisms of action, and outcomes in reducing kidney damage. After extracting the data and entering it into an Excel sheet, the essential information and the related knowledge on consequences and mechanisms were collected. The collected information was discussed and analyzed. Results: The antioxidant property of nano-CURs in dealing with nephrotoxicity is one of their most critical nephroprotective properties. They also exhibit potent anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and anti-pyroptotic effects. Moreover, nano-CURs improve mitochondrial function, modulate kidney biochemical markers, modulate electrolyte imbalance, reduce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and improve kidney histopathological changes and autophagy, offering protection against nephrotoxicity induced by various drugs and chemicals. Nano-CURs significantly improve histopathological changes. Animal models have demonstrated reduced oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, causing improved renal function and histological outcomes. Conclusion: Nano-CURs have shown promising nephroprotective effects in experimental studies. However, these results have not been significant in clinical trial studies. Future research should focus on clinical trials and optimizing formulations for broader therapeutic applications

    The Effects of Resveratrol on Menopausal Cardio-metabolic Changes

    Introduction: Menopause is known as a stage in a woman\u27s natural life cycle in which menstrual periods permanently stop with developing age. This review aims to review the modulating mechanistic effects of resveratrol (RSV) on cardiometabolic changes associated with menopause. Methods: To identify published studies before January 12, 2025, a comprehensive search was conducted across various electronic databases, such as Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library. Based on the study\u27s objectives, two reviewers independently performed data extraction to ensure accuracy and reduce bias. The extracted data were subsequently reviewed. Results: RSV has reductive effects on blood pressure, improves endothelial function, and enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. It also decreases fasting blood glucose levels, insulin levels, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and adipocyte hypertrophy. Increased estradiol levels correlate with improved cerebrovascular function and enhanced neurovascular coupling. However, the effects on body weight, body mass index (BMI), and lipid metabolism are inconsistent; some studies reported reductions in fat volume and changes in thermogenesis-related gene expression. Moreover, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels increase. While RSV demonstrates potential benefits for vascular function and metabolic regulation, further research is necessary to determine its long-term efficacy. Discussion: The findings align with existing evidence on RSV\u27s vascular and metabolic benefits, underscoring its complementary therapeutic potential. Limitations, like bioavailability, differences in patient characteristics, and inconsistent lipid outcomes, call for standardized and long-term studies. Conclusion: RSV, as a phytoestrogen, increases estrogen levels in the intervention groups. RSV shows potential effects in modulating the most studied menopausal cardio-metabolic changes
