Exploring paradoxical tensions in scaling circular business models within the textile and clothing industry

    No full text
The Textile and Clothing (T&C) industry is increasingly adopting circular business models (CBMs) to promote sustainable production and consumption. However, scaling CBMs within this sector remains challenging, mainly due to conflicts in organizational objectives, product designs, and value chain structures, resulting in paradoxical tensions (PTs). The purpose of this study is to explore PTs that hinder the scaling of CBMs in the T&C industry. The methodology adopted a two-stage approach: first, through a critical literature review, seven key PT categories affecting CBM scaling were identified, and secondly, semi-structured interviews were conducted with T&C industry actors for in-depth exploration. By applying paradox theory, this study revealed that PTs are more prevalent at the product and process levels. At the product level, PTs impacted scaling CBMs both within inner loops (repair and reuse) and outer loops (recycling), driven by socio-environmental and economic conflicts, classified as performing paradoxes. Scaling recycling is hindered due to trade-offs in technology selection for higher market uptake, lack of infrastructure, and challenges in choosing between local and global value chains, classified as organizing PTs. Our findings emphasize the importance of inter-class organizing-performing paradoxes, which obstruct the scaling of sequential loops like reuse-recycling. Furthermore, implicit belonging and learning PTs became apparent alongside other paradoxes, such as performing-belonging and organizing-learning. While belonging PTs arose at the stakeholder level due to identity tensions, learning PTs stemmed from insufficient data, knowledge, and technology. Based on the findings, this study contributed to developing four propositions explaining the impact of PTs in scaling T&C CBMs. These findings provide valuable insights for T&C actors to strategically plan and scale CBMs while understanding and navigating PTs. This is of crucial significance for policymakers in formulating effective policies supporting the scaling of CBMs within the T&C industry

    No full text

Swedish principals' adaptive leadership in unprecedented times : Learnings from the pandemic experiences

    No full text
This study examines Swedish principals' perceptions of their learnings and leadership development and identifies lasting changes to their leadership practices. Data were collected through a digital survey involving 66 novice principals who had previously participated in the National Principal Training Programme. The qualitative inductive content analysis revealed four key themes: (1) development of adaptive leadership, (2) enhanced communication capabilities, (3) improved preparedness for the unexpected, and (4) development of digital leadership. Principals reported that their experiences fostered adaptive and trust-based leadership, collaborative decision-making, and strategic crisis management. Enhanced digital competencies streamlined operations but challenged social cohesion. The findings highlight how adaptive leadership was key to navigating uncertainty, maintaining organisational stability, and fostering innovation during crises. The study suggests that principals' adaptive practices, initially developed in response to the pandemic, have become embedded in their leadership strategies, contributing to sustainable improvements in school practice. Implications for future research include exploring the long-term impact of these practices on educational outcomes, resilience, and leadership preparation programs across different national contexts

    No full text
As interest in using psilocybin therapy for treating mental health disorders intensifies, the need for efficient production methods becomes increasingly important. Current medical-grade psilocybin production is inefficient and relies on a complicated multistep synthesis. This study has explored and evaluated psilocin ester prodrugs and psilocin salts as potential alternatives to psilocybin, focusing on their ease of synthesis, chemical stability, and metabolic profiles. A diverse library of 15 psilocin ester prodrugs and six psilocin salts was synthesized and evaluated. The study successfully identified several psilocin ester prodrugs and psilocin salts that exhibited desirable characteristics, including storage and handling stability, rapid metabolic conversion to psilocin, and easy synthesis, with potential advantages over psilocybin. This research introduces viable options through psilocin ester compounds and psilocin salts, offering promising avenues for future development

ATT VÅRDA PERSONCENTRERAT : Litteraturöversikt utifrån ett sjuksköterskeperspektiv

    No full text
Background: Person-centered care is a fundamental aspect of nursing practice, aiming to tailor care to the individual needs of patients. However, implementing person-centered care in hospital settings can be challenging due to organizational factors such as workload, resource limitations, and structural barriers. Aim: The aim of this literature review was to provide an overview of nurses’ experiences in delivering person-centered care to hospitalized patients. Method: This study was conducted as a literature review, including a total of ten peer-reviewed articles, of which four used a quantitative approach and six used a qualitative approach. A structured analytical method was applied to identify recurring themes and patterns in nurses’ experiences. Results: Nurses perceive person-centered care as an essential part of their profession, yet various factors influence their ability to practice it. A supportive work environment, sufficient resources, and effective communication with patients and colleagues facilitate person-centered care. Conversely, time constraints, heavy workload, and administrative demands pose significant barriers. Conclusion: To enable nurses to provide person-centered care sustainably, organizational measures such as improved working conditions, supportive leadership, and increased opportunities for professional development are necessary. Further research is needed to explore how structural changes in healthcare can enhance nurses’ ability to deliver person-centered care in hospital settings.  Keywords: Hospital environment, literature review, nurses’ experiences, person-centered care, working conditions

Outer space is, and has historically been, subject to human curiosity, imagination, and scientific inquiry. Yet it remains beyond direct human experience. While technological advancements have transformed our understanding of outer space from an abstract unknown into a place of scientific exploration, political ambition, and human interaction, the way people understand it is also influenced by language, culture, history, and imagination. A growing body of humanities and social science research on outer space recognizes that outer space is not just a physical place, but a place shaped by human knowledge, interaction, and narratives. However, linguistic perspectives remain scarce. This thesis situates and contributes to this field as it aims to explore, and by doing so, shed light on how outer space is conceptualized and linguistically construed. Situated within the theoretical framework of Cognitive Linguistics, this study approaches language as a lens through which conceptualization can be explored. Rather than just serving as a means of communication, language also reflects the relationship between thought, experience, and reality. In the case of outer space – a place that humans cannot directly interact with – the thesis offers insights into how people understand the unfamiliar. The thesis comprises five empirical studies, primarily employing corpus linguistic methods to analyze American English, given its prominence in scientific, technological, and cultural discourses on space. The studies examine motion verbs, prepositional constructions, compound nouns, and metaphors, analyzing these via a combination of qualitative and quantitative perspectives to capture both common usage patterns involving these constructions and trends as well as finer details of how space is conceptualized. The results show that language about space is firmly rooted in embodied experiences. Even in an environment where fundamental physical principles such as gravity no longer apply embodied experience influence how people think and talk. Furthermore, outer space is also understood through personifications and metaphors that draw upon familiar, embodied experiences, offering ways to make sense of abstract and unfamiliar places in both conventional and creative ways. Finally, the results encompass conceptualizations specific to the United States' cultural context, influenced by the Cold War, colonial expansion, and economic or political discourse on space exploration and tourism. By means of a detailed examination of how outer space is linguistically construed and conceptualized in American English, this thesis shows that studying the patterns of language and thought can provide insights into how people understand, engage with, and imagine outer space now and in the future.

    No full text

Forensic investigative genetic genealogy using genotypes generated or imputed from transcriptomes

    No full text
The utility of transcriptome analysis in forensic genetics is steadily increasing. The transcriptome, with its ability to reflect both transcript levels and their nucleotide sequences, is proving to be useful for a variety of different applications, including body fluid identification and donor assignment, thereby providing both genetic and contextual information. Furthermore, the substantial single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) coverage obtainable with whole transcriptome sequencing may prove useful for additional applications. In this study, we expand the current knowledge of transcriptomics in forensic genetics by showing how RNA can be used for forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG) purposes and inference of distant relationships. Genetic data was simulated for relationships ranging from full siblings (first-degree relatives) to third cousins (seventh-degree relatives). The sets of SNP genotypes were subsequently reduced to only include observed and imputed SNP genotypes at loci covered by transcriptome sequencing of whole blood. The relationships of relatives as distant as second cousins could be reliably classified based on an average of 99,548 SNPs. Appropriate thresholds for sequence quality parameters limited the rate of erroneous genotype calls, with the remaining errors proving to have little to no effect on relationship inference. In conclusion, we present a proof-of-concept study on how transcriptome-based genotypes, in combination with imputed genotypes, may be used for reliable relationship inference for FIGG purposes

In this project, I explore how we can deepen our understanding of improvisation by applying theories, concepts and structures from verbal interaction. I used four different exercises for working on this with my group. In addition to this, I also composed five new pieces of music in which we could apply these new concepts. In the composition process I transcribed real life conversations, and used elements like rhythm, pitch, and pacing from the speech as a foundation for the music. Throughout the study I make comparisons between musical and verbal interaction and explore similarities and differences between the two modes of interaction. I look at the topic from both a linguist and musician’s perspective, using the works of linguist Stina Eriksson, musicologist David Borgo, and writer/musician Stephen Nachmanovitch as sources.  The text follows the process from breaking down aspects of interaction, describing the work with the exercises, and the finished songs which were performed in my bachelor’s recital. At the end I reflect upon the different outcomes of the practice methods we used, and why studying verbal interaction might be a relevant technique in working with co-playing in an ensemble. The paper results in new ways to work with musical co-play with the based on verbal interaction and how we can bring out the essence of a song.Medverkande på konserten var:Sång – Matilda SchyborgerPiano – Milos LindegrenBas – Jakob EinarssonTrummor – Sebastian Jokela. Repertoar:Talking talking- Music and lyrics by Matilda SchyborgerArga låten - Music and lyrics by Matilda SchyborgerImproster syndrome - Music and lyrics by Matilda SchyborgerGhosting song - Music and lyrics by Matilda SchyborgerAny day now - Music and lyrics by Matilda SchyborgerGirl talk - Music by Neal Hefti, lyrics by Bobby Troup</p
