    Tacit, explicit, and cultural knowledge in demand planning

    O planejamento da demanda consiste num conjunto de etapas que envolvem dois tipos principais de conhecimentos: o tácito e o explícito. É sob este contexto desses tipos de conhecimentos que o presente artigo foi desenvolvido. Procura relacionar o planejamento da demanda com a gestão do conhecimento, delimitada para os componentes de conhecimento tácito, explícito e cultural. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa, de caráter exploratório, em cinco empresas, caracterizando-se como um estudo múlticasos, envolvendo entrevistas, observações e análises de documentos. Para análise e interpretação dos dados foi empregada a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciam a presença de componentes desses três tipos de conhecimentos no planejamento da demanda, tais como: o uso de ferramentas de tecnologia da informação, experiência dos profissionais, interação coletiva, relações sociais e a visão corporativa, que direcionam os negócios da firma.Demand planning consists in a set of steps which evolves two main types of knowledge: tacit and explicit. It is under these types of knowledge that the present article was developed. It aimed at relating the concept of demand planning with knowledge management, but delimited to its tacit, explicit, and cultural knowledge components. An exploratory research was done with five companies. Therefore, the study was characterized as multicases and evolded enterviews, observations, and documents analysis. The analysis was made by content analysis. The results evidenced the presence of a set of components related to the three types of knowledge in demand planning like: information technology tools, professional experience, collective interation, social relations, and a corporative view, which leads the company´ business

    Bancos brasileiros têm desenvolvido iniciativas inovadoras para levar serviços financeiros à população de baixa renda por meio de correspondentes bancários (CBs). O Banco Lemon é um caso interessante a ser investigado, pois implantou um modelo de negócios exclusivamente baseado no uso de CBs e focado nos clientes de baixa renda. Este artigo descreve o processo de adoção da tecnologia de CBs no Banco Lemon para ofertar serviços financeiros para a população de baixa renda, fazendo um resgate histórico das suas atividades, desde sua criação até o ano de 2009. O artigo também discute o relativo sucesso do banco na operação de serviços de arrecadação e os resultados pouco expressivos nas iniciativas de concessão de crédito.Brazilian banks have developed innovative initiatives to deliver financial services for the low-income population through correspondent banking (CB). Banco Lemon is such an interesting case to be studied because it has implemented a business model based exclusively on CB outlets and its focus was on low-income clients. This paper describes Banco Lemon\u27s adoption process of the CB technology to deliver financial services for the low-income population, promoting a historical description of the bank\u27s activities, since its creation and up to the year 2009. Eventually, this paper concludes that bill payment initiatives were successful while credit initiatives led to unexpressive outcomes

    M-learning (mobile learning) in practice: a training experience with it professionals

    This paper presents the results of a study that addresses the following question: what are the real possibilities of m-learning (mobile learning) for the development of individual competences and also for collaboration in the organizational setting? The paper analyzes a real experience in m-learning for training IT professionals. For this purpose a mobile virtual learning environment called COMTEXT was developed and implemented, which was designed to support competence development for workers using PocketPCs. The participants of the training activity (13 professionals) evaluated the m-learning experience via a structured questionnaire; all the content and interactions within COMTEXT were analyzed via content analysis. The results generated important insights into the ergonomic, technological and pedagogical possibilities and limitations of mobile and wireless technologies for corporate training and also on methodologies and learning tools that can be applied to m-learning. As an exploratory study, it also indicates issues for further research on m-learning in the organizational context

    Project orientation: a proposal to develop a service-oriented architecture

    A arquitetura orientada a serviços (SOA) é ocasionalmente encarada como um desafio complexo e intransponível (Serman, 2007), sentimento motivado pela falta de atenção de praticantes e da academia sobre os meios para sua construção. O trabalho visa trazer a gestão da carteira de projetos de TI como opção para orientar o desenvolvimento de SOA. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão da literatura sobre SOA, incluindo estudos de caso sobre sua adoção. Também foi executado um estudo de caso, no qual foram analisados os projetos de uma determinada organização, focando-se na evolução de sua arquitetura de serviços. Os resultados mostram a construção gradual de SOA no caso a partir da conclusão e sucessão dos projetos. Conclui-se com uma proposta de processo de construção de SOA e as limitações e sugestões de pesquisas futuras.A service-oriented architecture (SOA) is occasionally seen as a complex and undefeatable challenge (Serman, 2007). This feeling is motivated by the lack of attention from practitioners and from the academy on the means for its construction. The work aims to bring the portfolio management of IT projects as an option to guide the SOA development. A review of the literature on SOA was carried out, including case studies on the SOA adoption. A case study was also done, which analyzed some projects of a particular organization, focusing on the evolution of its services architecture. The results show a gradual development of SOA in the case studied based on projects execution and sequencing. It concludes with a proposal of a process for building SOA as well as suggestions and limitations for future research

    The practice of knowledge management in a rentail familiar company in Minas Gerais (MG): a case study

    As empresas familiares têm ocupado papel de destaque nas economias nacionais e, em especial, na brasileira. Apesar de sua importância, a viabilidade dessas empresas é questionada. Boa parte de tais questionamentos tem como principal fundamento as limitações gerenciais comumente observadas na gestão de organizações familiares. Tem-se, portanto, que a busca por soluções de ordem gerencial é uma questão urgente para a sobrevivência de empresas familiares. Na miríade de estratégias organizacionais, hoje existentes, a gestão do conhecimento tem despontado como um importante diferencial competitivo. Neste sentido, o objetivo desse artigo foi verificar como ocorre a gestão do conhecimento (GC) em uma empresa familiar do ramo varejista em Minas Gerais. Foi realizado um estudo de caso qualitativo, cujos dados foram coletados por meio de observação e entrevistas em profundidade com gestores. Os resultados indicaram a existência das seguintes práticas de GC (JÓIA e OLIVEIRA, 2007): troca de conhecimento em reuniões, grupos de estudo, incentivo a inovação e disseminação do conhecimento via contato pessoal. Concluiu-se que, na organização estudada, a GC é favorecida, em função da existência de ambiente propício à inovação, criatividade e compartilhamento do conhecimento tácito.The Family Companies have an important role in national economies and, specially in the Brazilian one. However its importance and feasibility are questioned. Good part of such questionings has a focus on the managerial limitations often observed in the management of Family Organizations. As a consequence the search for solutions under the managerial scope is an urgent issue for the survival of Family Companies. Within the myriad of current organizational strategies, knowledge management has emerged as an important competitive differential. Following this track, the objective of this article was to verify how knowledge management (KM) in a rentail Family Company in Minas Gerais (Brazil) occurs. A qualitative case study was carried through, based on data obtained from observations and interviews with managers. The results led to KM\u27s practices (JÓIA and OLIVEIRA, 2007): exchange of knowledge in meetings, study groups, incentive to innovation and dissemination of knowledge by personal contact. The conclusion highlighted how much the company\u27s environment favored KM\u27s practices due to the a favorable field for the development of innovation, creativity and sharing of implicit knowledge

    An information sub-system model for the utilization of the receipt printer as a management instrument in the supermarket sector in the State of Santa Catarina

    The supermarket sector in the State of Santa Catarina, as well as other sectors, has invested in technology and information systems. Public authorities make legal requirements about this sector which, at first, serve only as fiscal control, as in the case of the Receipt Printer-RP. This paper aims to demonstrate how the RP is used in the companies studied. It also aims to show the feasibility of the RP as a tool for management purposes, with results in reducing expenses, costs and tax charges, by means of specific reports. An information subsystem model will be considered as a management tool with the use of the RP. The methodology adopted was quantitative, with an exploratory and deductive study. The universe of this study is the supermarket sector in the State of Santa Catarina, using a sample chosen by the invoicing criterion. The database was formed by questionnaires sent to the sector and other information provided by public agencies, through the use of special data from the State Department of Finance, which is responsible for the control of RPs. Results indicate that it is possible to use the RP as a management instrument

    O surgimento da Internet revolucionou a forma das pessoas se comunicarem. Entretanto, com a quantidade de alternativas de websites é comum os internautas se sentirem perdidos e, muitas vezes, frustrados em não alcançarem seus objetivos. Assim, este artigo tem como objetivo o desenvolvimento de um modelo que seja capaz de avaliar o grau de flexibilidade e de eficiência ao uso da página Globo.com, como uma das medidas de usabilidade consideradas por Nielsen. Quarenta e um atributos foram avaliados a partir da opinião de 10 desenvolvedores e 8 usuários do portal Globo.com. A teoria dos conjuntos fuzzy foi a ferramenta utilizada para tratar as incertezas. Como resultado obteve-se um Índice de Flexibilidade e Eficiência ao Uso da página e propõe-se algumas mudanças para elevá-lo.The emergence of Internet has revolutionized the way people communicate. However, due to the large number of websites available, web users usually feel lost and very often frustrated for not achieving their goals. This paper aims to develop a model which is capable of evaluating the level of flexibility and efficiency of the Globo.com portal, as one of the usability metrics considered by Nielsen. Forty one attributes were assessed based on the opinions of 10 developers and 8 users of the Globo.com portal. The fuzzy set theory was the tool used to address uncertainties. As a result, a Flexibility and Efficiency Index of the Portal was obtained and some changes are recommended to improve its use

    Fuzzy logic application for economical-financial performance evaluation of production cooperatives

    Neste trabalho foi desenvolvida uma metodologia baseada em Lógica Fuzzy para classificação e avaliação de Desempenho Econômico-financeiro das cooperativas de produção. Foram introduzidas as escalas contínuas e criados submodelos baseados em Lógica Fuzzy para avaliar Retorno sobre o Capital Próprio, Capacidade de Pagamento e Estrutura de Capital de uma cooperativa de produção. Aplicando o modelo desenvolvido foi analisada a dinâmica de desempenho de duas cooperativas de produção (Coopermil e Cotricampo) no período de 5 anos. As avaliações realizadas pelas simulações numéricas para análise de influência de vários indicadores sobre desempenho de uma cooperativa de produção e as avaliações periciais mostraram uma boa correlação.In this work a methodology based on Fuzzy Logic was developed for classification and evaluation of Economical-financial Performance of production cooperatives. Continuous scales were introduced and Fuzzy Logic based sub-models, were created to evaluate Own Capital Return, Payment Capacity and Capital Structure of a production cooperative. By applying the developed model, the Performance dynamics of two production cooperatives (Coopermil and Cotricampo) was analyzed in a 5 year\u27s period.. Evaluations carried out through numeric simulation in order to analyse the influence of several indicators on a production cooperative performance and expert evaluations showed good correlation
