DETERMINING FACTORS OF BANK EMPLOYEE READING HABITS OF INFORMATION SECURITY POLICIES
This paper seeks to answer the question \u27What factors determine bank employee reading habits of security policies? Using the chi-square test, this research analyses the reading habits of bank staff to ascertain whether there is significant difference in their reading habits with regards to the following independent variable- gender, the section of bank the employee works (whether department or branch), number of years the staff has worked with the bank and the ownership status of the bank (public, private or foreign owned). In addition, logistic regression was employed to determine the predictors of these reading habits. This paper adopts a quantitative research methodology to study the information security reading habits of 136 Ghanaian bank staff from various banks and concludes that bank staffs working in departments are more likely to regularly read their banks policies than employees working in a branch. This paper also shows that there is statistical significant difference in reading habits with regards to the number of years an employee has worked with the bank. The paper finally shows that there is no statistical significant difference in security reading habits with regards to gender and ownership status of the bank. The logistic regression analysis also reveals that a respondent in a department is 4.4 times more likely to read the security policies relative to those in a branch. The analysis also concludes that , respondents who have worked for less than 5 years were less likely to read the policy relative to those who have worked more than 5 years (OR=.51
ENVIRONMENTAL SCANNING, STRATEGIC BEHAVIOR AND PERFORMANCE IN SMALL COMPANIES
This paper’s theme lies in the interaction between the organizational strategy and the environment of small companies and aims to analyze the relation between the scanning of environmental information, strategic behavior and performance. As a research method, the survey-type quantitative approach was used. The application of questionnaires and data analysis were also used alongside this method, using correlations and analysis of variance to verify the differences among companies classified as prospector, analyzer and defender, in their scanning efforts and use of information sources. The main results show that prospectors scan data from the competition as well as technological aspects and access written sources of information and internal sources of information more frequently than those that adopt another type of strategic behavior. Overall, the scanning of information sources was more associated with the performance than with the strategy measured by the strategic behavior typology
Conception and development of a system used to organize and facilitate access to environmental information
In São Paulo State\u27s ) coastal area, Brazil, for several years, a chemical company discharged, without any sort of environmental control, a blend of industrial waste composed of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). Lawsuits forced the company to identify and limit such deposits in order to perform the environmental recovery. A recovery project was developed demanding preparation and handling of a large amount of documents, satellite images, aerial photographs, maps and videos with the increase of the information and knowledge management issues. This condition became even more critical as the projects started to become cross-disciplinary, involving a growing number of experts, many of them established in different cities. These circumstances led to develop an Environmental Information System (BASGEO) enabling the organization and facilitation of access to such documents while increasing information safety. This work shows the development of this system and the difficulties related to the management and handling of environmental documents. The research method used was the direct observation of the system development and the semi-structured interview conducted with executives and administrative employees of the company. The results show several gains provided by the BASGEO, improving and accelerating access to information, significantly reducing the need for displacements to transport documents, thus reflecting increased safety
Understanding organizational memory from the Integrated Management Systems (ERP)
With this research, in the form of a theoretical essay addressing the theme of Organizational Memory and Integrated Management Systems (ERP), we tried to present some evidence of how this type of system can contribute to the consolidation of certain features of Organizational Memory. From a theoretical review of the concepts of Human Memory, extending to the Organizational Memory and Information Systems, with emphasis on Integrated Management Systems (ERP) we tried to draw a parallel between the functions and structures of Organizational Memory and features and characteristics of ERPs. The choice of the ERP system for this study was made due to the complexity and broad scope of this system. It was verified that the ERPs adequately support many functions of the Organizational Memory, highlighting the implementation of logical processes, practices and rules in business. It is hoped that the dialogue presented here can contribute to the advancement of the understanding of organizational memory, since the similarity of Human Memory is a fertile field and there is still much to be researched
It management model for financial report issuance and regulatory and legal compliance
The development of information systems for financial report issuance must be adherent to the demands of the law and regulations that regulate the financial market. In order to perform this task, organizations need to implement control in the Information Technology (IT) area to maintain their systems´ conformity to laws and regulations. In the development of this work, it was found, through a state-of-art study, that there are no proposals contemplating the solution of this problem in its totality. In order to achieve this goal, in this paper it is presented a model for Information Technology management constituted by COBIT, ITIL and BPM management good practices, together with SOA and XBRL Technologies. This model is composed by 03 layers that aim at structuring the organization IT and business processes, besides defining a process for implementing SOA and integrating its Web services with XBRL language. One can expect this work to contribute to companies to decrease the negative impact coming from the lack of conformity with laws and regulations, through the creation of a corporative and IT environment that is flexible and more adaptable to changes, which may occur in legal demands, as well as improving the quality and reliability of financial report issuance
Strategic partnership building in it offshore outsourcing: institutional elements for a banking ERP system licensing
The purpose of this paper is to design a conceptual model of institutional elements for the building of a client-supplier strategic partnership in IT outsourcing, involving an ERP system licensing. This model resulted from a case study in a Brazilian transnational bank, which is one of the 10 largest American banks in terms of assets volume. Qualitative content analysis technique evaluated the data collected from interviews, documents, and observations. The results show the importance of a multidimensional institutional perspective with a set of regulative, normative, and cognitive elements to structure a client-supplier partnership. The data analysis confirmed elements predefined in the theory developed, as well as identified new ones
End-user satisfaction with the Integrated System of the Federal Government Financial Administration (SIAFI): a case study

The role of worker tenure and employment heterogeneity on software development work activities
Software development group effectiveness depends on many factors, and understanding those factors is vital to project success, especially when considering the time and money that is dedicated to said projects. Therefore, this study examines the role of worker tenure and employment heterogeneity on exploration and exploitation work completed within an organization’s software development group. Analysis of time tracking data within one financial services organization over a three years period demonstrates that worker tenure and employment heterogeneity do play an important role in shaping work activities. Worker tenure exhibited a negative relationship with exploration and exploitation activities, suggesting a critical mechanism through which an organization can elicit innovative and incremental development efforts. Further, the positive effect of employment heterogeneity on exploration and exploitation suggests that employment diversity can also provide a means to encourage innovative and incremental development activities. Findings highlight the notion that group composition plays a meaningful role in shaping the focus of software development work within an organization
Impacts of a relationship model on informational technology governance: an analysis of managerial perceptions in Brazil
The aim of this article is to analyze the impacts, based on the perceptions of managers, of the deployment of a model to govern the relationship between business areas and IT in a large Brazilian financial organization. To undertake the case study of this deployment, the research firstly performed documental analyses of the process and then sent electronic surveys to a sample of managers in order to evaluate their perceptions of the model’s impact in terms of the formalism of the organization’s internal processes, strategic alignment between business areas and IT and levels of governance in the organization. The results revealed that managers perceived improvements in the quality of technological solutions, levels of IT governance, the understanding of IT area needs and business area demands, but they also stated that the negotiating process was more complex and there was no increase in their level of satisfaction with IT. These results of the study may contribute to the development of instruments for the evaluation of the impacts of the deployment of relationship models on important organizational aspects
