INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND ORGANIZATIONAL MEMORY: A LITERATURE REVIEW

The advancement of technologies and Information Systems (IS) associated with the search for success in the competitive market leads organizations to seek strategies that assist in acquisition, retention, storage, and dissemination of knowledge in the organization in order to be reused in time, preserving its Organizational Memory (OM). Organizational Memory Information Systems (OMIS) emerge as an enhancer of the OM, providing effective support and resources for the organization, assisting in decision making, in the solution of problems, as well as in quality and development of products and services. This article is an analysis of some OMIS selected from a literature review about its features and functionality in order to understand how these information systems are seen by the organizations. With this research, we realized that the relationship between OM and IS is still inexpressive, even with the existence of some cases of success in the use of OMIS in the literature. The literature reveals that an individuals\u27 knowledge is not integrated in information systems management process in most organizations; much of this knowledge is generated in the organization retained in an individual himself/herself. It is easy to see that there is a need for strategies and mechanisms in the organization to stimulate and provide better knowledge sharing between individuals which, when associated to IS, allows greater control and effective use of Organizational Memory

CONVERSATIONAL COMPETENCES MODEL FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT

The main objective of this study is the development of a model of conversational competences for Business and IT managers aiming at the strategic alignment between their areas. The theory of this alignment highlights the importance of communication between Business and IT areas, which is explored in the social dimension of their managers’ relationship through conversational competences. A survey research was performed with Business and IT managers from public and private organizations in Brazil, whose data were analyzed through multivariate statistical techniques – exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis – and thematic content analysis. The results confirmed the constructs and most of the hypotheses of the proposed research model, which was expanded with new constructs and hypotheses

USE OF VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS: A THEORETICAL MODEL USING DECOMPOSED EXPECTANCY DISCONFIRMATION THEORY

The present study aims to investigate the determinants of satisfaction and the resulting continuance intention in the e-learning context. The constructs of decomposed expectancy disconfirmation theory (DEDT) are evaluated from the perspective of users of a virtual learning environment (VLE) in relation to expectations and perceived performance. An online survey collected responses from 197 students of a public management distance learning course. Structural equation modeling was operationalized by the method of partial least squares in Smart PLS software. The results showed that there is a relationship between quality, usability, value and value disconfirmation with satisfaction. Likewise, satisfaction proved to be decisive for continuance intention. However, there were no significant relationships between quality disconfirmation and usability disconfirmation with satisfaction. Based on the results, it is discussed the theoretical and practical implications of the structural model found by the research

Assessments have enabled HLI to rethink and redesign processes. As a result, institutions are becoming increasingly similar to each other, which is a phenomenon called coercive isomorphism. To propose a distinctive and positive element in the decision-making process, this study examined empirically how the AHP method (Analytic Hierarchic Process) can contribute to project prioritization in the Professional Master\u27s Program in Business – Project Management of the University Nove de Julho (UNINOVE). This research was developed based on a case study from a theoretical-conceptual structure. This structure comprised the basis to develop and implement a structured questionnaire to build the multi-criteria hierarchical structure of the AHP method and obtain project prioritization and requirements of the assessment system developed by CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, a government agency linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Education in charge of promoting high standards for post-graduate courses in Brazil). The results suggest that this approach can assist the coordinating committee of the Professional Master\u27s Program of UNINOVE to prioritize projects and contribute to its performance improvement in the CAPES assessment system

ASSIMILATION PATTERNS IN THE USE OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES IN SMES: EXPLORING THEIR EFFECTS ON PRODUCT INNOVATION PERFORMANCE

Manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are more and more adopting advanced manufacturing technologies (AMT) aimed at fostering product innovation process, improving product quality, streamlining the production process, and gaining productivity. In this study, we analyze the relationship between AMT proficiency levels in manufacturing SMEs and product innovation performance. Using data from 616 manufacturing SMEs, and considering a wide range of various AMT (20 different types of AMT grouped into 5 categories), we derived three AMT assimilation patterns through a cluster analysis procedure combining hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering algorithms. The analysis of the relationship between AMT assimilation patterns and product innovation performance shows a rather unexpected picture: in spite of the existence of clearly distinct patterns of AMT assimilation, we find no significant relationship between any pattern and product innovation performance. Instead, we find the organizational and environmental context of SMEs to be more determinant for product innovation performance than any of the AMT assimilation patterns. From a practical point of view, this study indicates that manufacturing SMEs managers interested in fostering their innovation capabilities through AMT assimilation need to be aware of the contingency effects of their organizational size, age, and sector of activity

This work aims at the scrutiny of the current situation of the Information Technology Service Management practices within the Brazilian Federal Direct Administration, from the perceptions of the Information Technology Managers of twelve Ministries. The methodology used followed the Process Maturity Framework as a guideline, which is a maturity model whose patterns are described in ITIL v3. The work consists of interviews with questions related to the five maturity levels, as follows: initial, repetitive, defined, managed and optimized. Information on the five basic Information Technology Service Management processes was collected. Besides the classification of the maturity levels of the processes, the interviews allowed us to gather information about the possible causes that hinder the improvement of the maturity of the processes. The outcomes of the survey on the researched ministries showed low maturity level in all the assessed service management processes. The Incident Management Process presented the highest level of maturity, while Problem Management proved to be the most flawed one, in relation to maturity. The other assessed processes, like Change Management, Service Assets and Configuration Management and Release and Deployment Management presented some sort of homogeneity among the ministries. As for the probable causes that hinder the improvement of the maturity level of the Information Technology Service Management processes, pointed by the managers, the following one stand out: the reduced staff, the lack of resources, the gap between the organizational targets and their processes aims, and the lack of skilled labor

This paper performs a literature review of research papers published by the Brazilian Academy of Information Management, with the purpose of analyzing how much the main design science (DS) research principles are applied and how they are put in practice. The research sample was extracted from 257 papers published in this area of study, from the annals of the EnANPAD, between 2008 and 2012. The expressed interest of the researchers in DS was noticed, taking into account the fact that there are research papers published related to the development of new artifacts. Such papers, however, did not address central aspects of DS, such as the association of an artifact with problems in the business environment, substantiating the use of an artifact by means of tests with variables associated with the problem
