Thematic Progression Found in Students' Thesis Backgrounds at STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat
This study is aimed at finding out paragraph coherence. It is descriptive content analysis. Thirteen thesis backgrounds were chosen purposively based on the supervisors’ recommendation. Data were analyzed by coding, specify ing, and comparing. Then, the results indicate that every paragraph uses various thematic progression patterns. The patterns include CT, ZT, MS, CR, CP, DT, MP, LC, CL, and EP. The pattern determines the coherence level of the paragraph
CULTURAL EXPRESSION IN MADURESE SPOKEN SPEECH AND INDONESIAN LANGUAGE IN ELEMENTARY/MI STUDENTS IN SUMENEP
Purpose of this study First, describing cultural expression in spoken speech madura language and Indonesian among elementary/MI students. Second, describes the pattern of interaction and cultural expression that occurs in students with teachers, principals, and other stakeholders. This research method uses a qualitative approach that decrypts spoken speech of cultural and language expression. The type used by this study is phenomenological, which is to study the pattern of interaction process of oral speech of students as an expression of language and culture. Based on the results of research in the field in two schools namely SDN Keles and MI Miftahul Jannah speech or oral speech of students when interacting and communicating either with teachers or with fellow students, found several spoken speeches that included the cultural expression section of Madura language as the first language and Indoensia language as a second language.As the following Teachers and Students spoken speeches. LIFE EXPERIENCE OF THE FOUR OLD MEN RITUAL SPEECH OF TRADITIONAL BRIDE AND GROOM CEREMONY
The purposes of this study are to know the meaning and function of the ritual speech of traditional bride and groom ceremony, to identify the value of culture, education, religion moral and justice of ritual speech, to analyze and describe the ritual speech within positive and negative impacts of bride and groom. This study Phenomenological study through in-depth interview with the four informants' life experience, in Seloi, Aileu. The Ritual Speech is one of the local wisdom. The function of the ritual speech is celebrated for living together between the bride and groom to become a new family in peace and love. The ritual speech has a value of culture, education, religion moral and justice. The result shows two impacts: positive if it brings family wellbeing. The negative impact if ritual speech is not conducted it brings bad luck for the family. Therefore, the ritual speech needs to preserve and to develop as the traditional law. Ritual Speech of traditional bride and groom ceremony needs to consider as subject local content of the school curriculum
Mooi Indie Paintings: The Antagonism and Its Politicality
For some people, Indonesia during colonial period is often imagined as a beautiful, quiet, peaceful, and harmonious country. Such imagination, for example, resides in the concept of Mooi Indie paintings which emerged out of Indonesian history during the Dutch colonial period. However, for other people, such representations were opposed because they were merely romanticized representation by painters patronized by the Dutch colonials who wanted to romanticize the memory of their past in East Indies. STUDENTS’ SYNTACTIC COMPETENCE IN FOCUS TRANSFORMATION SENTENCE
This research aims to describe students' syntactic competence in arranging focus transformation sentence. The researchers employed a qualitative approach of single case study. The data obtained were acceptable sentences from spoken Indonesian language. Meanwhile, the data analysis applied an interactive model. The research result identifies that the Junior High School students, particularly the eighth-graders, has had syntactic competence in arranging focus transformation sentence by practicing the rules of intonation, movement, passive structure, and possessive pronoun
SOCIAL PRACTICES OF BOURDIEU THEORY IN JAVA OPERA FILM
This article is written based on a case study of the Javanese Opera film. A film was produced at the end of 2006 as a requiem form of disasters that occurred in Indonesian territory. The data source is based on a cut of the film scene which is approached with the social practice model according to Bourdieu's theory. The result is a picture of a woman's loyalty as a wife who is loyal to her husband. Women are strong figures, although in practice they must accept their nature. This social practice based on Javanese culture is evident in the film media, which functions as a conveyor of information and as a means of cultural transformation.Keywords: Social practice, Bordieu, film, Javanese opera, women
Analisis Modalitas Dalam Ilmu Semantik Pada Film My Name Is Khan
ABSTRAKFilm merupakan salah satu media komunikasi yang dapat menyampaikan pesan, film My Name Is Khan menyampaikan pesan melalui sikap-sikap yang ditujukan oleh pembicara (actor) melalui percakapan dalam setiap adegan nya. Melalui teori modalitas semantik penulis menganalisis sikap apa saja yang ditunjkan oleh pembicara(actor) dengan pembagian modalitas epistemik dan deontik. Penelitian ini memiliki tiga masalah: 1) Apa saja unsur-unsur modalitas semantik yang terdapat dalam film My Name Is Khan? 2) Kata-kata modalitas epistemik apa saja yang terdapat dalam film My Name Is Khan? 3) Kata-kata modalitas deontik apa saja yang terdapat dalam film My Name Is Khan? Untuk menjawab dan menganalisis pertanyaan diatas penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif karena penulis menganalisis dengan penjelasan deskriptif. Hasilnya penulis menemukan Film My Name Is Khan memiliki 50 modalitas epistemik dan 10 modalitas deontic di dalamnya. Masing-masing dari modalitas tersebut memiliki makna tersendiri sesuai dengan fungsinya dalam film. 50 modalitas epsitemik yang ditemukan berfungsi untuk menyampaikan perasaan, keharusan, dan kemungkinan. Sedangkan 10 modalitas yang ditemukan befungsi untuk menyampaikan perizinan atau keperkenan-anKata Kunci: Film, Modalitas, Perasaan. ABSTRACTMovie is one of the communication media that can convey messages, My Name Is Khan film conveys messages through attitudes addressed by the speaker (actor) through conversation in each of his scenes. Through semantic modality theory, the writer analyzes what attitudes the speaker (actor) exhibits by dividing epistemic and deontic modalities. This research has three problems: 1) What are the elements of the semantic modality contained in My Name Is Khan movie? 2) What kind of epistemic modalities are found in My Name Is Khan movie? 3) What deontic modality words are found in the movie My Name Is Khan? To answer and analyze the above questions the author uses qualitative methods because the authors analyze with descriptive explanations. The result is that the writer found My Name Is Khan movie has 50 epistemic modalities and 10 deontic modalities in it. Each of these modalities has its own meaning according to its function in the film. 50 epistemic modalities found function to convey feelings, necessities, and possibilities. HEDONISM PRACTICES AS REFLECTED THROUGH MAIN CHARACTER IN THE WOLF OF WALL STREET MOVIE
The objective of this research were to find out the hedonism practices through main character dialogues in The Wolf of Wall Street movie based on Weijers’s theory of hedonism and happiness which consist of six types of hedonism, they were folk hedonism, value and prudential hedonism, motivational hedonism, normative hedonism, hedonistic egoism, and hedonistic utilitarianism. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data were taken from the main character dialogues in The Wolf of Wall Street movie. The result of the research showed that there were five types of hedonism practices found in the main character dialogues of The Wolf of Wall Street movie, they were folk hedonism, value and prudential hedonism, motivational hedonism, hedonistic egoism, and hedonistic utilitarianism
INVESTIGATING THE FACTORS INFLUENCING STUDENTS' WILLINGNESS TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH
This paper aims to investigate the factors that affect the students’ willingness to communicate in English in the classroom. This study employs a qualitative method, particularly the case study with the use of observation, questionnaire, and interview to collect the data. It can be concluded that there are mainly five factors that influence students’ willingness to communicate namely teachers, topic discussions, classroom environment, peers, and types of activities
