    Status kesehatan oral dan asupan zat gizi berhubungan dengan status gizi lansia = Oral health status and nutrient intake were associated with nutritional status of the older adults

    Background: Central Bureau of Statistics data in 2006, showed that the average life expectancy of the population living in Yogyakarta (DIY) was 73 years, and 73.8 years for those living in Sleman. This was higher than the average national life expectancy of 68.5 years. National Health Survey in 2007 showed that the prevalence of oral and dental problems in DIY was 23.6%, while the pulp and periapical tissue diseases in the elderly in Sleman districts was approximately 1704 cases. Hence, it was classified as one of the 10 most prevalent diseases in Public Health Centre. In addition, there were 406 older adults who were underweight. Objective: To investigate the relationship between oral health status, nutrient intake and nutritional status in older adults. Method: This study is an observational study with cross sectional design. Subjects were 310 patients aged 60-74 years old in Sleman district. Data obtained by interview, examination of the oral health status, measurement of body weight and arm span. Data were analyzed with Chi-square test. Result: There was a significant association between oral health status and protein intake (RP=2.3895%CI:1.42- 3.970). Energy, fat and carbohydrates intake were not associated with oral health status (p>0,05). Nutritional status was significantly associated with the intake of the energy (RP=2.98, 95%CI:1.58-5.58), protein (RP=2.44, 95%CI:1,05-5.67), fat (RP=3.68, 95%CI:1.93-7.03) and carbohydrates (RP=4.89, 95%CI:2.54-9.4). However, there were no relationship found between oral health and nutritional status (RP=1.79, 95%CI:0.94-3.43.) Conclusion: There was a significant association between oral health status and protein intake. The intake of nutrients (energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrate) was significantly associated with nutritional status.     Pawn shop services public service institutions which is not free from activities service broker. The objective of this research is to determine factors that are underlie the existence of brokering activities. Study findings pointed to several factors, which are broadly categorized as internal and external. Internal factors include inaccessibility of the pawn shop, lack of clarity of the attributes of the product, and bureaucratic pathology attributable to brokering activities. Meanwhile, external factors include public perception about pawn shop services, level of satisfaction services offered by the broker, and the culture of reluctance to get involved deeper into pawn shop business activities. Redressing the brokering problem can be done by among other things, offering reward and meting out punishment to pawn shop staff depending on whether they don\u27t engage or condone in brokering activities, discourage the activity, providing clear attributes of the product, and improving pawn shop services

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghilangkan Pb(II) dalam air limbah pabrik gula Tolangohula Kabupaten Gorontalo. Dalam studi ini, teknik koagulasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan kitosan sebagai koagulan. Kitosan diperoleh dari Peneaus monodon. Pengaruh massa koagulan dilakukan dengan memvariasikan massa kitosan 0, 2,5, 5, 7,5 dan 10 g. Selain itu, pengaruh pH juga diteliti dengan memvariasikanpH larutan: 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 dan 10. Hasil penelitian menunjukkanbahwa penggunaan 10 9 kitosan memberikan efisiensi penurunan Pb(II) yang optimal sebesar 72,36% atau22,28 x 10&#8315&#8310mg/g. Selain itu, penurunan Pb(II) yang optimal berada pada pH 9, sebesar 83% atau 25,44 x 10&#8315&#8310mg/g. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa koagulan kitosan memiliki kemampuan untuk mengadsorpsi Pb(II) dalam air limbah pabrik gula TolangohulaKabupaten Gorontalo

    Leptin is a hormone produced by adipocytes and plays an important role in wound healing. The objectives of this research were to identify leptin and total leukocyte after incision on rat fed high fat diet and zinc topical application. Sixteen male Sprague Dawley rats at 3 months of age were used in this study. Rats were randomly allotted into 4 groups (A,B,C and D) of 4. Rats in group A and B were fed normal diet, while rats in group C and D were fed high fat diet. After 2 months of treatment, skin incision was done at the back side of the rat. Incision wound was then closed with single interrupted suture. The wound of the rats in group A and C was treated with vaseline, while in group Band D was treated with zinc 10%. Three days after surgery, blood was collected from each rat for leptin analysis and total leukocyte. Leptin level and total leukocyte were analyzed statistically using ANOVA for factorial experiment (2x2).     Nepal is a vulnerable country in terms of multiple disasters and one of them is earthquakes. Disaster risk management experts believe that one of the ways to reduce the vulnerabilities is by adopting a community-based disaster risk management approach. Unfortunately, Nepal has limited resourcesthe culture of insurance against disasters does not currently exist. This paper describes the findings of research conducted in traditional settlements of Kathmandu Valley multiple case studies, household surveys, and communitybased participatory research have identified that the culture of participation in local development activities and fundraising at the local level could contribute to disaster risk. management in traditional settlements of Kathmandu Valley.     Tumbuhan Erythrina variegata (Leguminosae) secara tradisional dikenal oleh masyarakat Indonesia sebagai obat antikanker dan antimalaria. Bagian tumbuhan ini yang biasa digunakan sebagai bahan pengobatan adalah daun dan kulit batang, tapi kandungan senyawa kimia aktif biologisnya belum banyak dilaporkan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan senyawa aktif antikanker dan antimalaria secara in vitro yang terdapat di dalam daun dan kulit batang E. variegata. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara ekstraksi metanol dan fraksionasi dari daun dan kulit batang E. variegata yang dipandu dengan lIji antikanker secara in vitro terhadap sel kanker payudara T47D menggunakan metode Sulforodamin B (SRB) dan uji antimalaria secara in vitro terhadap Plasmodiumfalciparum 307 (sensitif klorokuin) dan Kl (resisten klorokuin) menggunakan metode laktatdehidrogenase (LDH). S-elanjutnya dilakukan pemisahan fraksi etil asetat daun dan kulit batang E. variegata yang dipantau dengan uji antikanker danmtimalaria secara in vitro menggunakan kombinasi kolom kromatografi diperoleh tiga senyawa aktif (1, 2, dan 3). Struktur kimia senyawa aktif (1, 2, dan 3) ditetapkan berdasarkan data-data spektroskopi dan diidentifikasikan sebagai turunan triterpenoid pentasiklik glikosida (1)flavonoid, eristagallin A (2)dan steroid, (22E)-5a,8a-epidioksiergosta-6,22-dien-3&#946ol (3). Senyawa (1) mcnunjukkan aktivitas antimalaria secara in vitro terhadap P.falciparum strain 307 (sensitif klorokuin) dengan ICso 1,8 I1g/mL dan terhadap strain KI (resisten klorokllin) dengan lC&#8325&#83203,3 µg/mL.Senyawa (2) dan (3) menunjukkan aktivitas antikanker secara in vitro terhadap sel kanker payurada T47D dengan IC&#8325&#8320masing-masing 3,0 dan 3,2 µg/mL.Tumbuhan E. variegata mempunyai potensi sebagai bahan dasar obat herbal antikanker payudara dan antimalaria

    Pencemaran logam berat krom (Cr) menjadi masalah penting saat ini. Metode alternatif untuk mengatasi pencemaran Cr adalah biosorpsi, yaitu menggunakan biomassa sebagai biosorben. Aspergillus niger merupakan salah satu spesies yang dapat digunakan sebagai biosorben untuk mengikat logam bcrat. A. niger mudah dibiakkan pada medium agar, ekonomis dan aman bagi lingkungan. Penclitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan biomassa A. Niger sebagai biosorben Cr(lll). Biosorpsi Cr(lll) dilakukan pada variasi pH, konsentrasi dan waktu kontak. Proses recovery dilakukan dengan mctodc batch dan kolom. Pencucian biomassa pada proses recovery menggunakan HCI. Gugus fungsi biomassa sebelum dan sesudah interaksi dengan Cr(lll) dianalisis dengan spektroskopi inframerah Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pH optimum adsorpsi terjadi pada pH=5. Konsentrasi logam terbaik pada 10,0 ppm dengan kapasitas adsorpsi sebesar 0,155 mg ion Cr(III)/g biomassa. Sedang waktu optimum adsorpsi terjadi pada I jam pertama. Recovery Cr(lII) dengan metode kolom sebesar 60,23% scdangkan dcngan metode batch sebesar 33,42%. Hasil analisis gugus fungsi menunjukkan adanya peran gugus hidroksil, gugus karboksil, dan disulfida dalam biomassa yang berinteraksi dengan Cr(lll)

    Penelitian ini dilakllkan dengan tujuan merekayasa model sistem dinamik untuk mcnganalisis pengaruh pertumbuhan penduduk terhadap penurunan luas hutan di Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS) Sentani. Metode yang digunakan adalah Model Sistem Dinamik dengan menggunakan tool powersim 2.5d. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertambahan penduduk merupakan faktor pengllngkit (leverage jactor) meningkatnya pemanfaatan lahan hutan di DAS Sentani. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh menurunnya luas hutan yang tersedia dari 68.865 ha pada tahun 2002 menjadi 59.559 ha pada tahun 2012 dan akhirnya diasumsikan habis (0 Ita) pada tahun 204

    FORMULATION OF NANOCURCUMIN USING LOW VISCOSITY CHITOSAN POLYMERAND ITS CELLULARUPTAKE STUDY INTO T47D CELLS

    Using of curcumin as anti cancer agent is restricted by its low solubility, therefore it has low bioavability. This obstacle can be solved by the development of curcumin nanoparticle. Nanoparticle technology has been started to be developed as an alternative solution to improve drug delivery pofile, especially for the less bio-available chemical. This study was aimed to develope nanocurcumin formulation with low viscosity chitosan as the matrix and to study its ability to be taken into the cells in vitro. Method used in the formulation of nanocurcumin in this study is by ionic gelation followed by freeze drying. Entrapment Efficiency then assayed, and its stability was tested by incubating the formula into artificial intestinal fluid (AIF). Furthermore, its toxicity was evaluated, also its cellular uptake ability into T47D cell line. It was found that the Entrapment Efficiency in acetate buffer at pH 4 is higher than at pH 5. This formula also has a good stability in AIF. For the cellular uptake study through fluorescence microscope, it was found that the complex has an ability to penetrate cellular membrane into the cytosol. The cytotoxicity study tell us that the nanocurcumin is non-toxic to normal cell line. For the characterization of the nanoparticles, the average size of this particle is 269.8 nm, its zeta-potential is +18.63 mV, with spherical particle morphology. From the result of this study, it is concluded that formulation of nanocurtumin using low viscosity chitosan polymer as the matrix has a great potential as an alternative for anticancer therapy

    CHROMOSOME CHARACTERIZATION OF THREE VARIETIES OF GINGER (Zingiber officinale Rose.)

    Giant ginger (Zingiber officina/e Rose. var. officina/e), red ginger (Zingiber officina/e Rose. var. rubra) and small ginger (Zingiber officina/e Rose. var. amarum) are three varieties of Zingiber officina/e Rose. They have a lot of benefit and often used by Indonesian as a traditional drug. Moreover, they have a big chance to be use as a flavor in world wide. Therefore, research for their quality, quantity and continuity of supplyare needed. Characterization of their chromosomes is one effort for improving ginger cultivation. The objective of this research was to study mitotic time and chromosome characters of three varieties of ginger. Squashing method was used for chromosome preparation. The results showed that mitotic time of giant ginger is 09.00- 10.05 am, red ginger is 09.00-10.30 am, while small ginger is 08.45-11.00 am. Chromosome number of giant ginger and small ginger are 2n=2x=30, while red ginger is 2n=2x=22. Giant ginger has R= 3,109, Red ginger has R = 3,206 and small ginger has R= 4,065. Based on chromosome characters it is revealed that relationship between giant ginger and red ginger is closer that of compare to small ginger. This result is important as basic information for improving the gingers production through breeding program
