    Heavy metal-induced oxidative stress and alteration in secretory proteins in yeast isolates

    In the recent years, yeasts have evolved as potent bioremediative candidates for the detoxification of xenobiotic compounds found in the natural environment. Candida sp. are well-studied apart from Saccharomyces sp. in heavy metal detoxification mechanisms. In the current study, Candida parapsilosis strain ODBG2, Candida sp. strain BANG3, and Candida viswanathii strain ODBG4 were isolated from industrial effluents and contaminated ground water, and were studied for their metal tolerance. Among these three isolates, the metal tolerance was found to be more towards Lead (Pb 2 mM), followed by Cadmium (Cd 1.5 mM) and Chromium [Cr(VI), 1 mM]. On further exploring the involvement of primary defensive enzymes in these isolates towards metal tolerance, the anti-oxidative enzyme superoxide dismutase was found to be prominently high (25% with respect to the control) during first 24 h of metal–isolate interaction. The Catalase enzyme assay was observed to have increased enzyme activity at 48 h. It also triggered the activity of peroxidases, which lead to the increase in reduced glutathione in the organism by 0.87–1.9-fold as a metal chelator and also as a second-line defensive molecule. The exoproteome profile showed the early involvement (exponential growth phase) of secreted proteins (low-molecular-weight) of about ~ 40–45 kDa under Cd and Pb stress (0.5 mM).     Relationship between lifestyle and stress among college students

    Stress and lifestyle are the main components of human life. The present study’s main objective is to study the relationship between lifestyle and stress among college students (18 – 25 years). The sample for this study consists of 60 graduate students of different courses. The questionnaires used to test lifestyle include 8 domains and 42 items and for stress has 10 items. Both the questionnaire used was of the rating scale. The survey method was used to collect the data from the students, the results obtained were interpreted using the guideline scores of the questionnaire and were analyzed by using the normality test, Pearson correlation test, spearmen’s roh correlation test. The findings of the study suggest that there is a significantcorrelation between lifestyle and stress among college students

    Association of DAZL polymorphisms and DAZ deletion with male infertility: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    Background Various populations have been investigated for the occurrence of two key DAZL polymorphisms, 260A > G (rs11710967) and 386A > G (rs121918346), as well as complete DAZ cluster deletion, with conflicting results. Objective The purpose of the current meta-analysis was to investigate if there is an association between DAZL polymorphisms and complete deletion of the DAZ cluster gene with male infertility. Methods Up until September 2022, a thorough search was conducted in the Pubmed and Google scholar databases. For 260A > G polymorphism, 8 studies with 2077 cases and 1398 controls, 13 studies for 386A > G polymorphism (4343 cases and 3727 controls) and 17 studies of DAZ deletion (2820 cases and 1589 controls) were included in the pooled analysis. All of the studies were statistically analysed by Review Manager 5.4, and publication bias was evaluated with JASP 0.16.2.0 software utilising funnel plots and Egger's linear regression test. Results The meta analysis result for pooled data indicated no association between 260A > G and 386A > G polymorphisms and male infertility in any of the genetic models or ethnicities. However, there was a definite correlation between complete deletion of the DAZ gene cluster and male infertility, with an OR = 13.23, 95% confidence interval (6.63-26.39), and p < 0.00001. In the stratified analysis by ethnicity, Caucasians and Asian ethnic groups showed the similar relationship. Conclusion In order to arrive at more definitive conclusions, further study should be conducted, including studies from a larger range of nations and nationalities

    Synthesis of self-healing inhibitor releasing nanocapsules blended phenol novolac resin for high performance anticorrosion coating

    The present work intended to synthesize a composite material exhibiting self-healing and enhanced anticorrosion properties. In this context, MWCNT incorporated nanocapsule (NC) filler material was synthesized, then it is blended with phenol novolac resin (PNR). The surface characterization studies of MWCNT/NC-PNR composite material signify the nano-size, spherical, and multiwalled structures of NC and CNT. The composite materials consisting of different weight percentages of MWCNT inserted NC were coated on the mild steel (MS) surface by the doctor blade method. The 0.3 wt% MWCNT/NC blended PNR showed significantly enhanced hydrophobicity of the coating which is evidenced by the high value of water contact angle (98.2 degrees) amongst the coating materials prepared. Further, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests of the coating confirm a high impedance value of 3.039 x 107 ohm cm2 at the low frequency region for 50 days of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. Thus, it was found that 0.3 wt% MWCNT incorporated NC filler increased the corrosion protection efficiency of NC/PNR coating by 32.61%. Therefore, the results show that the MWCNT/NC-PNR composite coating exhibits significantly elevated corrosion resistance, and can be used as a self-healing inhibitor coating material for longterm anti-corrosion shield

    Crystal Structure Characterization, Hirshfeld Surface Analysis, and Non-covalent Interactions of 2,5-Bis(4-chlorophenyl)-1,3,4-Oxadiazole

    Heterocyclic compounds are present abundantly in nature. Nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds are an important class which made significant contributions to medicinal chemistry. Oxadiazole derivatives are scaffolds which exhibit wide range of biological applications. The title compound was synthesized and crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system. The structure exhibits C-H center dot center dot center dot N intermolecular interactions. The structure is stabilized by pi-pi interactions between the oxadiazole and phenyl rings. Intermolecular interactions are quantified by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Energy frameworks are constructed to investigate the stability of the compound. Molecular geometry calculations are performed using density functional theory by employing 6-31 + G (d, p) functional basis set. The chemical significant sites are identified by topology analysis

    Piperazine selenium nanoparticle (Pipe@SeNP's): A futuristic anticancer contender against MDA-MB-231 cancer cell line

    Drug resistance is a major drawback of breast cancer management mainly in treatment failure. The main objective of the current study is to investigate whether Piperazine selenium nanoparticles (Pipe@SeNP's) can induce apoptosis in breast cancer cell lines. Piperazine molecule (pipe) was synthesized and char-acterized using different spectral studies such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, LCMS, and FTIR. Pipe@SeNP's was synthesized and amply characterized with UV-Vis spectra, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, XRD, and DLS highest size distribution was found to be 26.39 nm compared to other sizes with 3.8 mV zeta potential value. Before the synthesis of the Pipe@SeNP's, the core chemical was assessed for their Pharmacophore model, PASS, ADME, and BBB. All the computational assays strongly indicated the potency of the molecule. Pipe@SeNP's was treated with both normal (PBMC) and cancerous (MDA-MB-23) cell lines and investigated their dose optimization, and cytotoxicity by MTT and SRB assays. The colony morphological changes and cell prolif-eration inhibitory effect of Pipe@SeNP's were monitored up to 8 hrs against cancer and normal cell lines compared to etoposide drug with colony formation and scratch wound assay. The efficacy of normal and cancerous cell death patterns was examined in a flow cytometer. The data showed that 61.92% of cells were dead in the late apoptotic phase and 22.60% of cells in the early apoptotic stage compared to stan-dard drug etoposide 13.41% of cells were in the early apoptotic stage, 47.48% of cells in the late apoptotic phase and 20.65% of cells undergo necrosis. This revealed data strongly indicated that, Pipe@SeNP's could be of great potential in futuristic drug development against breast cancer cells. (C) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Studies on the concentration of 226Ra and 222Rn in drinking water samples and effective dose to the population of Davanagere district, Karnataka state, India

    The concentrations of 226Ra and 222Rn were measured in ground water samples of Davanagere district, Karnataka state, India using emanometry technique. Activity of 226Ra and 222Rn in groundwater varied from 15.6 ± 3 to 68.9 ± 5 mBql−1 and 37 ± 4 to 245 ± 8 Bql−1 respectively. More than 53% of the water samples showed higher radon concentration compare to standard safe limit of 100 Bql−1 prescribed by WHO. Effective dose to the public due to 222Rn in water was found to vary from 0.15 to 1.00 mSvy−1 with an average of 0.49 mSvy−1

    Although, cyclophosphamide (CP) treatment is known to cause degeneration of the ovarian follicular reserve, which may have a serious consequence of the onset of early reproductive senescence, thus far there is no experimental study either to demonstrate CP-induced early onset of reproductive senescence or its prevention. Intraperitoneal administration (ip) of CP [100 mg/kg body weight (bw)/mouse] resulted in a drastic reduction in reproductive life span as shown by the onset of reproductive senescence at a significantly early age (258 days) compared to controls (349 days), whereas treatment with the root extract of the herb Decalepis hamiltonii (DH) (200 mg/Kg bw/day for 7 days), a cocktail of anti-oxidants prior to CP administration maintained normal reproductive life span in mice. Further, the CP treated mice showed a significant increase in pre-coital interval and a significant reduction in parturition index coupled with regressive changes in the uterine endometrium, whereas DH co-treatment prevented these changes. The results for the first time, demonstrate that the ovarian toxicity of CP could be prevented by an anti-oxidant to maintain a normal reproductive life span as well as reproductive outcome using mice model

    The regioselective synthesis of 2-(methylthio)-N-aryl/alkylthiazole-5-carboxamides and ethyl-5-(aryl/alkyl carbamoyl)thiazole-4-carboxylates was carried out via the base-induced cyclization of methyl-2-oxo-2-(amino)ethanedithioates with TosMIC and ethyl isocyanoacetate, respectively, with high yields. The regioisomeric products were confirmed based on X-ray diffraction studies. An advantage of the present method is the wide-ranging isocyanide reactivity compared to earlier protocols, while the catalyst-free nature and rapid reaction times are noteworthy features
