    Structural investigations and theoretical insights of a polymethoxy chalcone derivative: Synthesis, crystal structure, 3D energy frameworks and SARS CoV-2 docking studies

    Chalcone derivatives with various functional groups have shown potent pharmacological and non-linear optical properties. A multi-methoxy substituted (E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-one, chalcone derivative has been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized by 1H and C-13 NMR, LC-MS and FT-IR techniques. A pale yellow colored rectangular shaped single crystals of the compound were obtained by slow evaporation method and the three dimensional structure was confirmed using X-ray diffraction studies. The compound crystallized in the monoclinic crystal system with P2(1)/a space group. The crystal and molecular structure is stabilized by C-H center dot center dot center dot O inter and intra molecular hydrogen bond interactions apart from the prominent C-H center dot center dot center dot pi and pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions. These interactions were studied using Hirshfeld surface analysis to understand the nature and strength of interactions; the 2D fingerprint plot quantifies each individual intermolecular contact and revealed that the H.H (49.2%) interactions have the major contribution to the molecular surface. The analysis of 3D molecular energy frameworks revealed that the dispersion energy (-208.16 kJ mol(-1)) dominates all other energies and their visualization identifies the packing order of the molecules in the crystalline environment. The lattice energy of the compound is found to be -398.1 kJ mol(-1). The electronic properties of the compound were quantified using theoretical quantum chemical computations with DFT-B3LYP/6-311+ G (d, p) level basis set. The electronic energy band gap of the chalcone molecule is found to be 3.6961 eV. The NBO and Mulliken atomic charges were computed and the molecular electrostatic potential map was plotted to identify the chemical reactive sites on the molecular surface. The second-order nonlinear optical properties of the molecule based on the first static hyperpolarizability (ss) have been investigated. Further, the molecular docking studies of the chalcone derivative against corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) protein have been carried out to shed light on the possible significant molecular interactions. It places a specific focus on the intricate Two-Pillar Solution proposed by the OECD to tackle BEPS-related challenges. The analysis encompasses an in-depth investigation of BEPS itself and a thorough examination of the OECD's Two-Pillar Solution, which encompasses the novel nexus and profit allocation rules under Pillar One and the proposition of a minimum global tax under Pillar Two. Furthermore, the study delves into the evolving global trend toward multilateralism in the realm of international taxation. The research concludes by presenting recommended solutions and offering insights into the future landscape of BEPS-related issues, while also providing valuable observations on the subject matter. This paper adopts a doctrinal approach and draws upon primary and secondary sources of literature, including Tanzanian tax laws, OECD guidelines, and other international principles.     Mapping of uranium in groundwater of Mysuru district, Karnataka, India and radiation dose to the population

    Uranium in ground and surface water may pose significant health hazards, if they are ingested via drinking pathway because of its radiological and chemical toxicities. Higher uranium concentration in drinking water can lead to serious diseases like leukemia, kidney cancer, stomach cancer and renal damages etc. In the present investigation, uranium concentration in groundwater samples of Mysuru district has been studied using an LED fluorimeter. About 350 water samples have been collected covering all the areas of Mysuru district and the uranium concentration varied from 0.34 to 242.93 µg l−1. The age depended dose due to uranium in drinking water has been estimated to evaluate the health hazards. The annual ingestion dose varied from 0.51 to 95.76 µSv y−1. The radiological and chemical toxicity risk to the population due to uranium in water was estimated. The Excess Cancer Risk varied from 1.22 × 10−6 to 102.63 × 10−6. The mean value of Hazard Quotient 0.07 indicates that the populations are less prone to adverse health effects of uranium contamination in water. © 2023 Elsevier B.V

    Process design and optimization of EDTA-biojarosite – a treatment approach in the Box–Behnken framework

    A study was conducted to investigate the performance of biojarosite as a catalyst in Fenton oxidation with and without the presence of the chelating agent ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA). The addition of EDTA resulted in increased iron dis-solution, confirming the role of EDTA as a chelating agent. The heterogeneous catalytic properties of jarosite were confirmed by the removal efficiencies of 93.5 and 83.4, with and without EDTA, respectively. The Box–Behnken method was employed as a Design of Experiments tool to identify suitable experimental runs. Both Fenton oxidation and EDTA-based Fenton oxidation were examined separately, with PCP removal being the response variable. In the case of Fenton oxidation, the optimization process resulted in the selection of 0.1–1 g/L of iron catalyst, 100–1,000 mg/L of H2O2, and a pH range of 2.5–3.5. On the other hand, for EDTA-based Fenton oxidation, the optimal conditions were determined to be 0.1–1 g/L of iron catalyst, 100–1,000 mg/L of H2 O2, and a pH range of 6.5–7.5.     The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a significant international document that seeks to guarantee equal human rights and freedoms for all individuals with disabilities. The convention outlines specific articles, such as Article 24, which calls for equal access to education for people with disabilities on an equal footing with others. Article 27 prohibits workplace discrimination against individuals with disabilities and requires state parties to provide reasonable accommodations. Additionally, Article 12 stipulates that people with disabilities should have their legal capacity on par with others. By establishing these provisions, the CRPD is working towards creating a more inclusive society for people with disabilities, where they can live with dignity and without discrimination. The marginalization of people with disabilities in Afghanistan has been a longstanding issue that has resulted in social barriers, exclusion from public participation, and denial of their right to equality. Crimes related to disabilities often go unreported due to stigma, lack of public awareness, and the absence of an effective legal framework. While Afghanistan ratified the CRPD convention in 2012, discrimination and social stigma against Afghan PWD continue to be prevalent. Ratification alone is not sufficient for a war-torn state, and the country must implement effective disability laws to address the issue. This book employs emancipatory research methods and provides a roadmap for resolving the conundrum of people with disabilities in Afghanistan. Understanding disability as a complex social phenomenon and the intersectionality of social and medical models of disability is crucial in addressing the issue

    Digitalization, intelligent virtual assistants, and smart consumer products prepare us for life at every stage. Smart IoT, Sensor nodes, software communicate with one another via voice and emotions, simplifying our lives. Smart IoT is becoming more prevalent in our daily lives. Even though the use of Smart IOTs has grown in Geometric progression, the security of these devices remains traditional. Technically, most security discussions revolve around the implementation of better Network Intrusion Prevention/Detection Systems (NIPS/NIDS), the installation of a traditional firewall, or the use of proxy scanners, which is the standard recommendation of se-curity vendors. All architectures are rooted in the same zeal that drives cyber warfare. However, when considering the Narrowband Internet of Things, the packet size is too small, and the memory and processors are so small that they cannot hold the packets for inspections, and the lucrative protocols will not work. Malicious hackers, BOTs, Trozens, and Honeypots may tamper with and virtually control these smart Internet of Things (IoT) to steal/tamper sensitive infor-mation for filthy lucre, financial reward, or, to put it simply, money in this cyber warfare. All of these issues stem from a lack of proper security design controls, architectural security flaws, and a failure to apply Secure by Design principles. Fixing these security controls earlier in the process will save us a significant amount of time, energy, and money spent on repairing broken IoT se-curity flaws and performance aesthetics. If we consider the Shift Left Secure by Design/Archi-tecture Journey in the Internet of Things Security Architecture, these Architectural/Design flaws can be identified in earlier stages and will help the delivery teams to plan necessary security controls in the IoT use cases.In this paper, the author discusses Layer-wise Security Challenges, Attack Vectors, and Architectural Flaws, and proposes a secure architectural solution for the Internet of Things (IoT) that assists delivery teams in securely designing/architecting resource -intensive smart Internet of Things (IoT)/Narrowband (NIoT) use cases earlier in the Life cycle by employing the Secure Design Shift Left approach. In this smart digital IoT era, the author also suggests future research directions for future generations to increase security
