Get PDFThe ‘Unity in Diversity: Inspiring Future Generations’ project was inspired by the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. It aims to unite people from diverse backgrounds, focusing on gender, second language acquisition, and diversity. Initiated in 2020 and funded by the University of Kitakyushu until 2023, it later received support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Project No. 23K02140). The project is delivered bilingually (Japanese/English) to benefit students pursuing English Language teaching licenses and those in foreign language studies at the University of Kitakyushu. Bilingual instruction makes Unity in Diversity more real and accessible to students. Students see the reality of two living languages being used simultaneously in the classroom and benefit from being able to use both languages freely without feeling the pressure to perform in one language or the other.departmental bulletin pape

A study on vernacular architecture transformation using ethnography-based intensive architecture memory recollection method
Get PDF北九州市立大学博士(学術)This research uses an ethnography-based intensive architecture memory recollection method to study vernacular architecture transformation. This method is opted in places with limited written records of past vernacular architecture and is designed to help the informants’ recollection process and verify the information shared. This study applies this method to residents from four different ethnic groups in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, to understand the transformations experienced in their houses throughout their lifetimes as impacted by time, their ethnic identities, and their proximity to tourism activities. The findings range from the details of the houses’ transformation, from material to the layout and forms. The study also analyzed the memory system of the informants to understand the success and constraints behind the data collection. It is hoped that from these findings, future designers can apply the same method when designing culturally sensitive places with limited written history.doctoral thesi
