Keyword determination by using controlled vocabulary is not a difficult task for information analysts. However, specify keywords for hundreds or even thousands of articles will take time and effort of the analysts. To ease thework, it needs to be made a system of automatic keyword extraction. The construction of this system passes thestages of preprocessing, translating, and pinpointing keyword candidates with a list of keywords. The research wascarried out by using 33 articles taken from PDII LIPI journal collections. This research employed 3 weighing methods, namely TF, TF x IDF and WIDF. Interface design has a significant role towards the successful of digital librarys application use. Digital libraryservices developed by Centre for Scientific Documentation and Information - Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PDII-LIPI) has yet to be evaluated. This research analyzed the design of the web interface of PDII-LIPI’s digitallibraries using the method of cognitive walkthrough (CW). Object of this study are three menus in digital library web interface that is “KaryaIlmiah Indonesia”, “Buku Elektronik”, and “Jurnal Indonesia (ISJD)”. CW testing parameters for PDII-LIPI’s digitallibrary interface consists of the successful completion of the task, and the effectiveness of the task. The successfulcompletion of the task was assessed by comparing the standard time with task completion time by respondents. Effectiveness accessed based on the processing time of each stage and the number of mistakes made by therespondent. The test results showed that all respondents successfully completed the task with the time that goesbeyond the standard set time. The analysis was conducted on all test results indicate that the obstacles faced byusers in general are finding menu of “E-Library”, specify the search facility is used, and searching the articles

OPACs in nine prominent higher learning institutionsand the Indonesian National Library were examined against Marshall Breeding’s ten criteria for third generationOPACs, e.g. Single point of entry to all library resources, State-of-the-art Web interface, Enriched content, Facetednavigation, Simple keyword search box, Relevancy, Did you mean ...?, Recommendations and related materials, Usercontribution—ratings, reviews, comments, and tagging, and RSS feed. Result of the examination showed that onlyone OPAC met four criteria, two OPACs met three criteria, two OPACs met two criteria, four OPACs met only onecriteria, and one OPAC did not meet any criteria. As a whole the ten OPACs met only six relatively easy criteria, e.g.Single point of entry to all library resources, State-of-the-art Web interface, Simple keyword search box, Enrichedcontent, User contribution¯ratings, reviews, comments, and RSS feed. It is concluded that the ten OPACs did nothave a sufficient number of the required features of the third generation catalog, and with only one OPAC met foureasy criteria there were still many things to accomplish to be able to reach the status of third generation catalog
