INDULA Initiative: Advancing Sustainable Development in Mekarwangi Village, Tangerang
The INDULA (Inovasi Daur Ulang Sampah/Waste Recycling Innovation) program for sustainable development in Mekarwangi Village was initiated to address the growing volume of waste and the community’s limited knowledge of waste management. These challenges negatively impacted the environment and public health, necessitating efforts to educate residents on the importance of recycling. The program employed a structured methodology encompassing preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, focusing on individuals directly affected by the waste management issues. Data collection utilized pre-test and post-test instruments to assess program impact. The analysis revealed significant changes before and after program implementation. Initially, 75% of household waste in the village underwent no sorting, and only 20% of respondents had basic knowledge of recycling. The community also lacked recycling skills and access to markets for recycled products. Following the program, at least 80% of participants understood the importance of recycling and its practical applications. Housewives and youth began creating innovative products from waste, with 50 individuals trained to produce items of economic value. Recycled products were introduced to local markets and e-commerce platforms, leading to a 20% increase in local economic income within three months of training. Additionally, the village established a more structured waste management system, reducing landfill waste by up to 50%. This program demonstrated a measurable positive impact on community awareness, skill development, and local economic growth
Mapping Above-Ground Mangrove Ecosystems for Nature Tourism Routes to Support Sustainable Tourism Development in South Lembar Village, West Nusa Tenggara
This study employed a multifaceted approach to map and quantify the above-ground carbon (AGC) content of mangrove forests using multispectral data analysis. The scoring method involved assigning values to various parameters based on their landscape characteristics. The research was conducted at beach locations in South Lembar Village and Lembar Village. Fieldwork took place in mangrove areas from July to August 2024. Sampling locations were determined using a purposive sampling method, in which samples were selected based on specific landscape criteria. The study incorporated both primary and secondary data sources. Primary data were collected through in-situ measurements and sampling, while secondary data were obtained from literature reviews and relevant institutional databases. The Random Forest (RF) classification method demonstrated high efficacy in identifying mangrove ecosystems, achieving an overall accuracy (OA) of 0.968 and a Kappa coefficient of 0.918. These metrics indicate strong agreement between the classification results and ground truth data. The analysis revealed that mangrove ecosystems covered approximately 50.08 hectares in the study area, indicating significant potential for ecotourism development, particularly for trekking routes. This study contributes to the understanding of mangrove ecosystem distribution and its potential for sustainable tourism development, particularly as climate change adaptation initiatives. The high accuracy of the mapping results provides a reliable basis for informed decision-making in environmental management and ecotourism planning. Further studies may be needed to assess the carrying capacity of these ecosystems and to develop strategies for their conservation alongside sustainable tourism practices. The mangrove area still requires overall landscape development, with assessment results showing an average score of 6.3, indicating moderate conditions and a need for improvement
The Development and Implementation of M-Edupayment: A Multi-Payment Platform for SMK Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung
This community engagement activity aimed to develop a mini bank website, m-EduPayment, integrated with the iPaymu payment gateway as an Application Programming Interface (API). The project was implemented at SMK Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung. System development followed the Personal Extreme Programming (PXP) method, which included the stages of Requirements, Planning, Iteration Initialization, Design, Implementation, and System Testing. PXP, a variant of Extreme Programming, was specifically adapted for individual developers. The activity involved 31 respondents, consisting of 10th and 11th-grade students, who evaluated the system using the System Usability Scale (SUS) to measure its usability. Interviews with teachers (superadmins) and student administrators were also conducted to identify initial requirements and gather feedback on the system design. Data analysis utilized a Likert scale, where respondents rated various system aspects on a scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). SUS scores were calculated using standard formulas to determine a final score, which was then classified into usability categories. The average SUS score was 91, falling under the "Excellent" category (Grade A). The development of the mini bank website introduced new features, including online payment services for tuition fees (SPP), waste banks, and savings. System testing achieved a 99% functional success rate, demonstrating the platform’s high usability in the school environment. Respondents provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, affirming the successful implementation and functionality of the website
The Stakeholder’s Role in Education for Sustainable Development at Marine Protected Area - West Kalimantan
West Kalimantan Province has five Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), one of which is the Randayan MPA. It is located in Bengkayang Regency abd was officially established in 2019 through Peraturan Daerah Provinsi Kalimantan Barat No. 1. One of the mandated activities was public education on conservation, which mostly targeted adults whose livelihoods depended on the extraction of natural resources. Concerning the conservation awareness gap for teenagers and children, our Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) initiated the application of the concepts of Social Capital and Bandura’s Social Learning Theory to facilitate this the community. It was found that the involvement of multi stakeholders supports the well-rounded learning experience for the children and teenagers in enchancing their awareness about the conservation of marine ecosystem and the life of under water. Online guest lecture from Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries as well as guided learning process by undergraduate students through their community service program are some of the influential initiatives
Design and Implementation of a Solar-Powered Automatic Plant Irrigation System in Kampung Gisi, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands
Agricultural sustainability is essential for rural communities, particularly in Kampung Gisi, where celery cultivation is a major source of household income. However, farmers continue to rely on manual irrigation, which is labor intensive, time consuming, and often inefficient in terms of water use. This study aimed to design and implement a solar powered automatic irrigation system that improves water efficiency while reducing farmers’ workload. The approach addressed these challenges by developing an autonomous system powered by solar energy and guided by soil moisture sensing to optimize water delivery. The proposed system integrates a solar panel, an ESP32 microcontroller, a soil moisture sensor, a relay module, and a DC pump to enable irrigation decisions based on real time soil moisture data. Implementation and testing were conducted in Kampung Gisi, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands. Data collection included site visits and semi structured interviews with local farmers to document existing irrigation practices and constraints. Field trials indicated that the system effectively automated irrigation, and the results showed an approximately 30% reduction in water use compared with manual watering. Prior to deployment, farmers typically spent several hours per day irrigating, whereas the automated system substantially reduced time requirements, allowing farmers to allocate effort to other farm activities. Farmers also reported more stable soil moisture conditions, which supported healthier crop development and improved yields. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the system can enhance irrigation efficiency, reduce labor demands, and support more sustainable agricultural practices. Community participation was critical, as farmers developed technical familiarity and a sense of ownership, which supports long term system viability. These results underscore the role of appropriate technology in strengthening farming communities, and they suggest that future work should prioritize accessibility and scalability to support broader adoption
Enhancing Teacher Awareness on Healthy Schools: A Community Services Initiative for Elementary and Junior High School Teachers in Bontang
A healthy school environment is vital in promoting the well-being of students, teachers, and the school community. This study aimed to enhance teachers' knowledge and implementation of healthy school practices through a community service program. The initiative involved socialization and training sessions targeting elementary and junior high school teachers in Bontang. The program was structured into three phases: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Educational materials covering healthy school concepts, balanced nutrition, mental health, and environmental assessments were developed, followed by training conducted at Puri Senyiur Hotel, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, from December 1-4, 2024. A total of 83 teachers participated, receiving instruction from health experts. Knowledge assessments were conducted before and after training, analysed using the Wilcoxon test due to non-normal data distribution. Results showed a significant median difference of 20 in knowledge scores (p = 0.0001), indicating substantial improvement post-training. Although the assessment measured short-term effects, the findings suggest a positive increase in awareness. Regular teacher training on healthy schools is essential for preventing malnutrition and fostering better health practices among students. This initiative aligns with governmental efforts to promote healthy eating behaviors in schools. Sustaining such programs requires collaboration between healthcare professionals, universities, and other institutions, along with integrating nutrition education into school curricula
Institutionalizing Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Through Education in a Small Island Context: A Case Study of South Tabukan, Sangihe Islands
The Sangihe Islands Regency, one of Indonesia’s small and outermost island regions, has been increasingly affected by the impacts of climate change. Extreme weather events and high waves have contributed to a decline in both the quantity and quality of fish catches and agricultural yields, which are the primary sources of livelihood for many residents. However, the community’s understanding of climate change, including its causes, impacts, mitigation strategies, and adaptation measures, remains limited. In response, a comprehensiveand community capacity-building program was initiated, focusing on education and institutionalization related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. The initiative was structured around four action clusters: medical, agricultural, science and technology, and socio-humanities. These efforts resulted in the development of environmentally friendly systems for waste disposal, agriculture, capture fisheries, and water resource management. The initiative is expected to strengthen the foundational capacities of residents in South Tabukan, Sangihe Islands Regency, enabling them to independently and sustainably mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change
One-Day Youth Red Cross Camp: Training High School Students in Splinting Techniques for School-Based Trauma Response
Introduction: Emergencies resulting from accidents can occur in any setting, including schools. In Indonesia, the overall injury prevalence has been reported at 9.2%, with schools accounting for the second-highest setting for injuries (8.4%). Splinting is a core first-aid technique that helps stabilize suspected fractures and prevent further injury or complications. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and practical splinting skills of Youth Red Cross (PMR) members at SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. Methods: A training-based intervention was delivered in a one-day camp format using lectures, demonstrations, and supervised hands-on practice. Training effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and post-tests to assess knowledge gains and structured observation during skills practice to assess performance. Results and Conclusion: Students’ knowledge increased substantially, as reflected by an improvement in mean test scores from 56.78 (pre-test) to 92.96 (posttest). Participants also demonstrated better adherence to correct splinting procedures during practice sessions. Overall, demonstration-centered training was effective for improving adolescents’ understanding and practical competency in splinting
Formulating Marine Tourism Service Standards for Soetan Island, Pesisir Selatan Regency
Standardizing marine tourism services is essential to ensure the quality and safety of visitors. With standardization, marine tourism service providers can ensure that all aspects of services, such as equipment, facilities, and human resources, meet the established criteria. This will increase visitor confidence and reduce the risk of accidents. In addition, standardization also helps improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services so that visitors can enjoy a better tourism experience. Standardization of marine tourism services also has a positive impact on the local economy and environment. With increasing service quality, tourists will be more likely to return and recommend the destination, thereby increasing local economic income. Therefore, we must implement and strictly monitor the standardization of marine tourism services to maintain the quality and sustainability of the marine environment. A standard operating procedure (SOP) document embodies the realization of service standardization. We prepared the SOP through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Soetan Island management. Four FGDs took place, leading to the creation of four SOP documents for Soetan Island's marine tourism services. This SOP document is a guide for Soetan Island Tourism Management in providing services to tourists, which support the realisation of decent work and service that leads to the economic growth
Empowering Communities Through GeoGebra: A Training Program on Visualization Technology for Transformation Geometry
The integration of technology in mathematics education has garnered increasing attention for its potential to enhance students’ understanding of abstract concepts. This study examined the implementation of a GeoGebra-based training program for pre-service mathematics teachers at Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang (UNSIKA), focusing on improving their visualization skills in transformation geometry. The training employed a project-based learning approach, incorporating online instruction, group projects, and collaborative discussions. Results indicated that GeoGebra effectively strengthened participants’ conceptual grasp of geometric transformations, as evidenced by high project completion rates and positive survey feedback. Recorded instructional videos significantly supported self-paced learning, with 84.4% of participants utilizing these resources for project completion. However, challenges in comprehending coordinate transformations suggested a need for further guidance and targeted exercises. The study underscored GeoGebra’s efficacy in advancing mathematical visualization skills and advocated for its wider adoption in mathematics teacher education. Future research should investigate extended training durations and adaptive learning strategies to address conceptual difficulties more thoroughly
