Science educational game: Increase procedural knowledge?
Developing educational game as an alternative of science learning media in SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of feasibility of science education games and to determine the effect of games on students' procedural knowledge. The designed educational game contained testing procedure of food substances on the materials of digestive system. The research was taken place in SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. The sample in this study were 33 eight grade students. The method used was ADDIE Analysis; Design Development and Implementation, and Evaluation. The instruments used were questionnaires, pre-test questions, and post-test questions. Quantitative analysis techniques were used for data analysis. The results of the game feasibility were determined through validation activities by material experts, media experts, teachers and students. The feasibility of the game by material experts indicated a percentage of 90% with a good category, media experts proved a percentage of 72.85% with adequate categories, science teachers showed a percentage of 95.68% with a good category and the eligibility by students confirmed a percentage of 79.02% with a good category. N-Gain Test Value of 0.179 meant that the effect of games as a science learning media was in low category
Development of STSE-based learning devices to improve the character of environmental care
The character of environmental care is a serious problem in Indonesia, the low character of environmental care has an impact on environmental damage. One of the efforts to improve the character of environmental care for the community is through education, namely through the development of learning devices that can improve the character of environmental care. This study aims: 1) to produce a proper STSE-based device, 2) to produce a STSE-based device that is effective in enhancing the character of environmental care. This research is a development study using the Borg and Gall model. The developed device contains syllabus, lesson plans, handouts, and students worksheets. The product developed was tested on a limited trial to 12 grade X students and wider trials on 37 students using a pretest posttest control group design. The instruments used to assess the product are syllabus validation sheets, lesson plan validation sheets, handout validation sheets, and students worksheets validation sheets. The product was validated by 6 people, including two expert lecturers, two biology teachers, and two peers. The results showed: 1) the products produced were feasible in terms of content, graphics, and linguistics as evidenced by the average score of 4.2 in the very good category. 2) the resulting product is effective to improve the character of environmental care as evidenced by obtaining a score of 0.2 in the low category in the control class and 0.45 in the moderate category in the experimental class
Students perception on the use of video in learning about reproductive system
One of the variations that can be implemented in biology learning is the use of media that functions as a teaching aid in the process of delivering materials and knowledge to students. This study used reproductive system which is considered as one of the compulsory materials in an attempt to improve students awareness so that risky behaviors causing reproductive disorders can be prevented. The study aims to describe the perception of students in Pontianak on the use of video on the material about reproductive system. The type of the study was quantitative using survey as the research method. The research subjects consisted of 291 grade XI high school students from nine high schools in Pontianak. The research instrument used was a closed response questionnaire with five criteria, constructed into two aspects, clarity and impact on leaner. The analysis of the questionnaire indicated that students showed a positive response on the use of video in learning about reproductive system (74.16%), with response to the clarity aspect reaching an average of 74.71% (positive category) and the impact on leaner aspect reaching an average of 73.61%. It can be concluded that the students respond positively on the use of video as a media to learn about reproductive system
Learning cycle 7E model to improve studying result and activity of IV grade students on natural science learning in SD Muhammadiyah Danunegaran of Yogyakarta
This study aims to improve the activity and student learning outcomes after applying the Learning Cycle 7E learning model. This study uses classroom action research concerning the Kemmis and Taggart models, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, which are carried out in three cycles. Data collection methods and instruments use the guidelines for observing student activities, guidance for observing teacher activities, tests of learning outcomes, and documentation. Data analysis techniques were carried out qualitatively (display, reduction, drawing/conclusion) and quantitatively (descriptive statistics). The results showed that student activity increased from cycle I by 93%, cycle II by 96%, and cycle III by 98.5%. Student's achievement increased from 74.16% to 91.67% (cycle I to cycle III). Classically, learning is said to be complete if 80% of students have reached the minimum completeness criteria, which is 75. This research shows that the stages in the Learning Cycle 7E can significantly increase student learning activities and outcomes
Study of strengthening 21st-century skills in prospective science teacher based on gender
21st-century skills are important for teachers. Pre-service teachers have to have the competence needed in the 21st Century to teach these 21st-century skills to their students in the future. This purposes of the study are the strengthening of the 21st Century Skills of pre-service teachers of science in three campuses, namely Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University, Sultan Idris Malaysia University of Education, and Ar Raniry State Islamic University in Banda Aceh and to determine the correlation of 21st-century skills-based on gender. This study employed quantitative design using a survey research method. The instrument used for this study was the questionnaire of 21st century skills. The questionnaire for the 21st century skills are 30 items to represent the five constructs (Digital Age Literacy, Inventive Thinking, Effective Communication, High Productivity and Values and Spirituality) with the reliability index of the instrument was 0.84. This study was conducted on 250 pre-service teachers consisting of 46 male gender and 204 female gender from three campuses. The results showed that teachers of science had good reinforcement of The 21st Century Skills. While based on data analysis, the correlation between male and female gender is weak but has the same relationship to strengthening the 21st Century skills
The credibility analysis of the microteaching assessment instrument based on the responses of biology education students using the Rasch model
The credibility analysis of the microteaching assessment instrument based on the responses of biology education students using the Rasch model. This study aims to reveal the credibility of the microteaching (MT) assessment instrument by analyzing the responses of biology education students using the Rasch model. The biology education students as participants played roles as assessors and practitioners of MT. The instrument used was the Instrument of Assessing the Learning Implementation (IPPP) in Book 4 of the 2013 In-Service Teacher Training Program (PLPG) Guidelines issued by the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The data obtained were analyzed by multirater analysis of Many-Facet Rasch Measurement (MFRM) version 3.83.2. Based on the results and discussion, this study concluded that the MT assessment instrument in biology education using IPPP was quite credible, which was revealed from the following three points: 1) The responses of students practicing MT are based on the results of peer ratings on a logit scale ranging from -0.82 to 0.80, which means that students practicing were quite diverse and can be distinguished by the instruments; 2) Student responses as assessor to the MT assessment instrument in logit scale units ranged -1.99 to 0.94 which means that as an assessor, student were able to assess diversely. The student as assessor was also able to understand the different rating scales used; and 3) The results of the calibration of the instruments showed that 24 instrument items can provide accurate information about the performance of the practitioner with logit values ranged from a scale of -0.72 to 0.66
The contribution of local wisdom integrated science learning model to the students scientific communication skill on ecology learning
Science learning can be integrated with local culture in the form of learning models. This study aimed to analyze the contribution of the local wisdom integrated science (LWIS) learning model in practicing scientific communication skills of prospective science teachers in Ecology learning. This study used a quasi-experimental of posttest only control design and purposive sampling technique from prospective science teachers at Trunojoyo University, Madura. The research instrument was a test of scientific communication skills, observations of the implementation of the LWIS learning model, questionnaire and interview responses of prospective science teachers to ecological learning using the LWIS learning model. Data analysis techniques used the t-test significance level of 5%. The results showed that (1) there were differences in the scientific communication skills of prospective science teachers after using the LWIS learning model of significance of 0.014 < 0.05 and - tcount < ttable < tcount (-2.528 < 1.9996 < 2.528), (2) scientific communication skills in the experimental class by 94.87% (high) > control class by 88.03% (high), (3) implementation of the LWIS learning model obtained an average value of 100% (very good), and (4) the response of prospective science teachers obtained an average value of 89.40% (very good) for the experimental class and the prospective science teacher said that the learning model was new, easy to use, developed scientific communication skills. Thus it can be concluded that the LWIS learning model contributes positively in training the scientific communication skills of prospective science teachers in Ecology learning
Bio-literacy perspective: A study of the implementation of outdoor learning-based science process skills in plant introduction
The study aims to describe an implementation study of outdoor learning based science process skills based on a bio-literacy perspective. The method used is quantitative analysis to see the influence of implementation of science process skills, while to reveal the effect of each indicator of each predictor used qualitative descriptive analysis. The samples in this study were two groups of biology teacher candidates taken by cluster random sampling techniques. The research instrument is a science process skills test with data analysis techniques using Anacova. The results concluded simultaneously there was an influence on the implementation of the science process-based outdoor learning skills from the perspective of bio-literacy at a level of significance 0.05. To measure the ability of bio-literation, it is not only needed instruments at the level of conceptual understanding but instruments that can assess learning with scientific methods and practices. Practically science process skills can be an effort in mapping the domain of biological literacy
The development of acrylic board game as a learning media on subject matter of cells
The use of learning media is known to improve students thinking skills. The interview conducted at SMP N 9 Salatiga indicated that the students had some difficulties in learning about cells. The purposes of this study were to develop learning media and to determine the feasibility of the media in teaching and learning. The research employed the modification of the Borg and Gall development model that was consist of :1) research and information collection, 2) planning, 3) develop a preliminary form of product, 4) preliminary field testing, 5) main product revision, 6) main field testing, 7) operational product revision, 8) operational field testing and 9) final product revision. The effectiveness of the product was measured by the N-Gain test. The validation results of the media experts, material experts, and pedagogy experts were 91.6% (very feasible), 85.7% (very feasible), and 80% (feasible), respectively. Also, the responses from educational practitioners and students were 86.6% (very good) and 82.41% (good), respectively. The students learning with media showed an improved cognitive score, based on N-Gain test analysis, compared to that which learning with other media. In conclusion, the "Cytozzle" learning media is feasible to be used in learning about cells
SSP integrated with the local potential of toga village based on green economy toward scientific literacy and enterpreneurial interest: A systematic review
Specific Subjects Pedagogy Biology based on green economy or more commonly known as (SSP) is a learning tool designed as a reference and framework for implementing learning by applying the principles of Green economy which can be applied to biology Students. The purpose of this systematic review research is to examine the theory of several previous studies in order to further find new theories about the integration of the learning concept of local potential of toga village with green economy concept in biology students toward Scientific Literacy and Entrepreneurial Interest. The method used is a systematic review which using 5 stages. The articles studied came from Google Scholar and ERIC data based, and then the search results were directed to national and international journals from 2010-2020. The results of the analysis showed that the concept of integration of the local potential of the toga village with green economy concept was a good and efficient, a SSP framework was formed that was integrated with the local potential of the toga village toward scientific literacy and entrepreneurial interest, as well as a great opportunity to use the concept of findings to some basic competencies in junior and senior high school
