Terdapat tujuh faktorfaktor
(Abstract by author
Innovation in teaching and learning : the experience of Open University Malaysia - PowerPoint presentation
Engaging the Open and Distance Learners via Online Community to Increase their Commitment to stay
This paper presents the findings of the research on the various interventions implemented by Open
University Malaysia and their impact on its learners’ level of Engagement in the Online Community.
The intensity of the Online Community which is the result of the interventions was measured using four
variables: Learner-Learner, Learner-Tutor, Learner-Staff and Learner-Content interaction. These
variables were then correlated to two other variables; their level of Engagement and Commitment to
stay. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 1,500 undergraduate learners of Open
University Malaysia located throughout Malaysia. Results obtained from 1,116 respondents showed
that there was a strong correlation between Learner-Learner, Learner-Tutor, Learner-Staff, Learner-
Content, Engagement and Commitment to stay. Multiple regression analysis carried out showed that
the learners’ Engagement explains 72 percent of the variance of their Commitment to stay. This study
concurs with many previous researches that reducing the feelings of isolation of open and distance
learners can help increase their level of engagement and reduce their attrition. (Abstract by author
Competitive Pricing Strategies of Low Cost Airlines in the Perspective of Game theory
Price is the weapon of choice for many low cost airlines in the competition for market share. Regional low cost airlines' pricing strategy for market stimulation is issuing free tickets and competing in ticket prices setting. It has been assumed as an effective strategy in influencing customers' purchasing decision. This study has documented the differences in price setting dynamics across low cost airlines operating on one of the biggest regional market and six domestic routes. A total sample of 7883 fare quotes for nonstop travel from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore and 6 domestic routes have been examined. The employment of Granger Causality Test attempts to mathematically capture the competitive behaviour in price setting. The data evidence revealed the reality of price competitiveness among the low cost airlines and game theory suggests that price cooperative should be implemented by low cost airlines for long term sustainability. Faktor-faktor yang mendorong tekanan kerja (stres) dikalangan guru-guru sekolah menengah di daerah Pasir Puteh
The aim of the research was to study the stress level and the causes of stress among the
secondary school teachers in Pasir Puteh. The contribution factors studied were students’
attitudes, workload, time constrain and appreciation given. 90 teachers participated in the
survey. The data was analysed using SPSS package version 17.0. The frequency and
percentage were presented in a table form. The research showed that the workload had the
min score between 2.10-2.66 which was at a medium level. Time constrain had the highest
min score (2.66), followed by workload ((2.58), Appreciation given (2.50) and the lowest min
score was the students’ attitudes. (2.10). Therefore, The research denied all the nol
hypothesis made and they were replaced by the alternative hypothesis that was there was a
great significant difference in the stress level of the secondary school teachers in students’
attitude factor, workload factor, time factor and appreciation given. (Abstract by author
A study on creating games and virtual worlds from a software engineering perspective
The industry of developing games and virtual environments have come a long way, but
it is not without its share of problems. In many ways, virtual worlds entail similar
development processes as games, as they both require expertise from creative and
technical facets. While facing similar difficulties as other commercial projects, creating
games presents its own unique challenges due to its multi-disciplinary nature. Because
of this, beginner and indie developers face complications in attempting to apply
Software Engineering methods (which are efficiently tailored to guide general software
projects) to reduce the chance of project failure. This study aimed to examine the
construction of games and integrate it into the Software Process. First, the background
of game development and Software Engineering were explored, deriving the
introductory guides for both. Then, a guidelines draft is developed to offer advice on
grafting aspects of the Software Process onto existing game or virtual world projects.
They are aimed at independent developers as they represent the future workforce of the
game development industry. To test the draft, an experimental project is carried out
using the guide as a supplementary resource. The project resulted in a 3D action-RPG
game platform that can be used as a starting point for advanced feature placement and
content development. It demonstrated that the guidelines were educative but lacks depth
and correctness. Revisions on these guidelines will transform it into a stepping stone
resource that introduces novice game developers to integrating Software Engineering
processes and practices into their projects. (Abstract by author
The impact of motivational factors on employee commitment in the oil and gas industry in Malaysia
This quantitative research aims to examine the impact of recognition, career development,
work-life balance and benefits on employee commitment. This includes the objectives as
follows: (1) To identify the employee perception with regards to recognition, career
development, work-life balance, benefits and employee commitment (2) To examine the
relationship between recognition and employee commitment (3) To examine the
relationship between career development and employee commitment (4) To examine the
relationship between work-life balance and employee commitment and (5) To examine
the relationship between benefits and employee commitment. Maslow Theory, Aon
nd Expectancy Theory as well as past
literatures were used to support the research hypotheses. Survey data was collected from
108 employees through convenience sampling of a multi-national oil and gas company.
SPSS Version 17 was used to analyze the data. The reliability test was conducted using
Cronbach Alpha and data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency
distribution and inferential statistics, namely Pearson Correlation, Multiple Regression,
ANOVA and Co-efficient. The Pearson Correlation Analysis revealed that: (1) There is a
low and significant relationship between recognition and employee commitment (r=0.259)
(2) There is a low and significant relationship between career development and employee
commitment (r=0.258) (3) There is a moderate and significant relationship between
work-life balance and employee commitment (r=0.403) and (4) There is a moderate and
significant relationship between benefits and employee commitment (0.571). The
Adjusted R Square of 0.430 from Multiple Regression Analysis shows that 43.0% of
employee commitment can be explained by recognition, career development, work-life
balance and benefits. The Multiple Regression Analysis also shows that work-life balance
and benefits are the strongest predictors of employee commitment with Beta Co-efficient
of 0.338 and 0.410 respectively. Limitations, implications and suggestions are also
discussed. (Abstract by author
Mathematical Modelling of Lithium-ion Concentration in Rechargeable Lithium Batteries
The demand for lithium ion batteries has increased due to the increasing need by consumers for
rechargeable batteries. In the effort to produce high performance batteries, mathematical model
becomes a vital instrument in helping batteries developers to understand the behaviour of the battery
systems during charge and discharge process. This understanding is useful in the optimization of the
battery design and parameters. This paper presents a mathematical model used to simulate the
intercalation process of lithium ions in the electrode of a lithium-ion battery. This model is used to
study the intercalation process through the lithium-ion concentration profiles during charge/discharge
of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This approach resulted in solving the diffusion equation in the
solution phase and the solid phase of the battery. Results from both phases are plotted and
compared. (Abstract by authors
