Modeling Elicitation effects in contingent valuation studies: a Monte Carlo Analysis of the bivariate approach
A Monte Carlo analysis is conducted to assess the validity of the bivariate modeling approach for detection and correction of different forms of elicitation effects in Double Bound Contingent Valuation data. Alternative univariate and bivariate models are applied to several simulated data sets, each one characterized by a specific elicitation effect, and their performance is assessed using standard selection criteria. The bivariate models include the standard Bivariate Probit model, and an alternative specification, based on the Copula approach to multivariate modeling, which is shown to be useful in cases where the hypothesis of normality of the joint distribution is not supported by the data. It is found that the bivariate approach can effectively correct elicitation effects while maintaining an adequate level of efficiency in the estimation of the parameters of interest
In this work we analyse ERSU’s quality of services about

The main results of this paper concerns principal circle bundles P with non vanishing Euler class, over odd-dimensional, closed, oriented and connected bases B. Such manifolds do not admit any Kaehler structure. We show that the same holds for principal torus bundles whose characteristic classes span a subgroup of, at least, rank one in the second integral cohomology group of the base space. This approach provides a new proof of a theorem of Benson and Gordon which asserts that no nilmanifold but the torus can be made kaehlerian. We end this note by extending this last result to certain classes of compact solvmanifolds
Agglomeration and Growth in the NEG: a critical assessment
This chapter is divided into two parts. In the first part we review the main results of a typical "New Economic Geography and Growth" (NEGG) model (Baldwin and Martin, 2003) and assess the contribution of this literature to the issue of long-run income gaps between countries. In the second part we discuss the robustness in some results of these models which are directly linked to important policy implications and we show that these results crucially depend on very restrictive values of some parameters of the model. In particular, depending on the different values of the degree of love for variety and the elasticity of substitution between traditional and manufacturing goods, our analytical examples reveal that: a) when trade is costly enough the symmetric equilibrium might not be stable also when capital is perfectly mobile; b) the rate of growth might depend on the geographical allocation of industries also when spillovers are global and, c) when industrial firms are concentrated in only one region, countries might not grow at the same rate in real terms
Health and Economic Behaviour: a Critical Survey of the Literature
The purpose of this paper is to give a brief overview of the relevant literature on health economics. Theoretical and empirical researches are reviewed to examine the traditional perception of health and pro- vide some general intuition of why the study of the individual eco- nomic behaviour is important in the ¯eld of health. Health, wealth and lifestyles are intimately linked through a complex bidirectional re- lationship. Economists have contributed much at its understanding and have overcome the limits of the medical and epidemiological approaches. This survey concentrates on the main estimation problems found in the health production function approach. Econometric methods that take account of reverse causation, unobservable heterogeneity and endogene- ity are needed to recover the genuine causal e®ect of socio-economic factors and health-related behaviours on health. Finally, this survey looks at inequality in health as an urgent public interest issue and sug- gests to disentangle the causes of health inequalities from an economic perspective
mediterranea,
subregione mediterranea occidentale e provincia sardo-
corsa.
monotipici: Morisia Gay e Nananthea DC.
Studying infantile bones is generally difficult for their state of conservation. This inconvenience is due to ecological decomposition and crumbling factors. We mainly have to ascribe it to soil pH, to diagenetic process, to water percolating. Besides the vast pieces number and the greater bones number than in adult (for the not yet completed epiphysation) offers a larger attack surface to insects and bacteria. So we have to determine sex, age and patologies basing ourselves on few elements. Generally sex diagnosis can be expressed only in adult bones. Someone use deciduos teeth size (Hunt-Gleiser 1955; Black 1978; De Vito 1990; Rosing 1983) or auricular surface conformation (Hunt 1990) as in adult for subadult bones sex determination. Determinating the age we have frequently to base ourselves only on teeth development
Quality of Biomedical Libraries Webpages: a survey
It is widely known the great extent of Internet and its role as a vehicle for the information and knowledge, for this reason web sites should be designed to be accessible to all people (Universal design).
In Italy recent provisions of law (Law n. 4, January 8, 2004) focused the attention on problems related to web sites accessibility and especially to those belonging to public administrations.
In 2003 our Library joined the CABI project (Campaign for Accessibility of Libraries on the Web) and becoming more sensitive to the accessibility problem tried to develop its web pages according to international standards (W3C, WAI, etc.).
A representative sample of the Italian Biomedical Libraries Homepages was selected and carefully examined in order to assess their compliance to accessibility standards.
Different validation software were used to ensure a greater reliability to the survey and to evaluate several accessibility aspects and the priority level reached by web sites under study.
The results are really not very encouraging and draw a current scene in which the main feature is represented by the fact that the sample achieved a low rate of accordance to the rules of accessibility stated by International standards.
This may be considered as a symptom of a lacking sense to the problem. On the other hand it seems to be much more spread the trend to update web pages content rather than allow easier and faster accessibility
Sulla presenza in Sardegna del Lepidottero Lycaenidae Sudafricano Cacyreus Marshalli Butler, 1898
The finding in Sardinia of the Lycaenidae species Cacyreus marshalli Butler, 1898 originated from South Africa is reported. The insect that is a house plants of the genus Pelargonium and Geranium, proved to be a serious pest to the cultures of such plants. Being now this butterfly established in Sardinia, it can be considered integral part of the Sardinia lepidopteral fauna. Finally, suggestion on chemical and biochemical methods are proposed
The authors have been referring to works about Sardinian flora published in Informatore Botanico Italiano. The works date back to establishment of review to 2004. A flora list has been drown up on a database where there is a lot of information on every single entity: the places where they have been found, the relative bibliographical references and when it is necessary the nomenclatural updating. 1334 records which were studied in 136 works have been analysed. There are totally 610 entities of Sardinian flora like the list shows
