    Get PDF
This paper, carried out in the framework of a local project 60% «Pleistocene-Holocene palaeoclimate and palaeogeography reconstructions based on marine and continental deposits of Sardinia» (Resp. Prof. Sandro De Muro) and within a series of researches involving several bodies (Archaeological Superintendence of NU/SS, Universities of Parma and Cagliari) and caving associations (Gruppo Speleo Ambientale Sassari, Gruppo Speleo-Archeologico Giovanni Spano of Cagliari, Unione Speleologica Cagliaritana and Gruppo Archeo Speleo Ambientale Urzulei), reports the first results of a palaeo-climate study carried out on a stalagmite sampled in the Su Palu cave, Codula Ilune, Urzulei (Central-East Sardinia). This stalagmite has been subjected to radiometric U/Th dating and stable isotope δ180 and δ 13C analysis. These isotopic data based on 139 samples showed a general increase in stable isotope ratios that would indicate a growth of the concretion in a period of global warming (Upper Pleistocene- Holocene?). The chronological setting by means of U/Th datings, unfortunately, did not allow to define the exact timeframe because of the presence of detrital Thorium. C14 analysis are under way to try to obtain information on the time during which the stalagmite growed

    Get PDF

Total factor productivity estimates: some evidence from european regions

    Get PDF
This paper provides total factor productivity estimates for a sample of 115 European Regions over the period 1976-2000. In particular, a set of Cobb-Douglas production functions is estimated using panel techniques and allowing for heterogeneity across regions. Moreover, on the basis of specific panel tests, the paper shows that there is empirical evidence which suggests the presence of unit roots in the series and panel cointegration tests are applied to guard against spurious regression

    Piante carnivore: un percorso didattico

    Get PDF
Since carnivorous plants always stir up interest and curiosity, we have realized a didactic route describing their different evolutional strategies. The route begins from observation of specimens present in the «Orto Botanico di Cagliari» to arrive inside the «Museo Botanico» where, by means of ancient tridimensional models and others of new constructions together with copious descriptive material, the visitor is guided to discover these strange vegetables

    Get PDF
The thesis has been an historical reading of Taiwan industralization and of the formation of its labour movement. The research question was based on the evidence that the labour movement has been weak. The intention of the research was to understand why, by focusing the attention on the fragmentation of labour produced by the Taiwanese export oriented mode of industrialization. Taiwan’s capitalist industrialization can be examined through an historical approach of state–society relations under the Gramsci model of historical analysis expressed on Notebook 25 “On the Margins of History, History of the Subaltern Groups”. Gramsci assumed that labour history is a disaggregated function of civil society’s history and of its relation with the state. To interpret the history of Taiwan labour through this kind of approach, it is necessary, according to the model, to understand the pre-capitalist mentality and social dynamics characterised by the so called guanxi (informal social networks), a typical aspects of Confucian societies. Industrialization installed on the top of this pre-existing social base that became the foundation of Taiwanese labour-state-capital relations. Guanxi in Taiwanese capitalist industrial society create such a strong hegemonic alliance between state and capital that constrained labour in a cage, preventing any autonomous initiative and reaction of workers. Thus, the movement was born as a tool of party politics and was directed by both the ruling party (KMT) and the opposition party (DPP). As a conclusion, labour movement in Taiwan rather than being a workers’ way of affirming their interests, it has been a strategy of capital to affirm its hegemony

Modulation of homogeneous space-time rainfall cascades to account for orographic influences

    Get PDF
The development of efficient space-time rainfall downscaling procedures is highly important for the implementation of a meteo-hydrological forecasting chain operating over small watersheds. Multifractal models based on homogeneous cascade have been successfully applied in literature to reproduce space-time rainfall events retrieved over ocean, where the hypothesis of spatial homogeneity can be reasonably accepted. The feasibility to apply this kind of models to rainfall fields occurring over a mountainous region, where spatial homogeneity may not hold, is herein investigated. This issue is examined through the analysis of rainfall data retrieved by the high temporal resolution rain gage network of the Sardinian Hydrological Survey. The proposed procedure involves the introduction of a modulating function which is superimposed to homogeneous and isotropic synthetic fields to take into account the spatial heterogeneity detected in observed precipitation events. Specifically the modulating function, which reproduces the differences in local mean values of the precipitation intensity probability distribution, has been linearly related to the terrain elevation of the analysed spatial domain. Comparisons performed between observed and synthetic data show how the proposed procedure preserves the observed rainfall fields features and how the introduction of the modulating function improves the reproduction of spatial heterogeneity in rainfall probability distributions

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Sardinia is probably one of the richest Italian regions for what concerns geology and geomorphology. Many researches on geological and geomorphological monuments have been carried out since the early 90's, emphasising this great geodiversity of the Island. This research is collected in the framework of the National Project COFIN 2001-2003 "Geomorphosites in the Italian Landscape", and analyses an area comprised between the provinces of Nuoro and Cagliari, in which many interesting sites are located

Gli scheletri del Castello di Acquafredda

    Get PDF
Last spring, three skeletons were found next to the Acquafredda Castle, located near the town of Siliqua-Cagliari and built in the 13th century by the Count Ugolino Della Gherardesca, quoted in the Divina Commedia. They were buried directly in soil, with the arms layed on breast. In the second tomb we found, there were only the legs of the skeleton. Individual 1 was a male 35-39 years old, tall about 162 cm with still open metopic suture. Individual 2 was tall 164-165 cm. Individual 3 was a male about 39-44 years old tall about 166-167 cm with stress signs in vertebral coloumn. In photoes 6-7-8-9 you can see the Individual 3 restoration of physiognomy I made
