Le projet urbain dans la requalification : approche comparative entre l'Italie et la France

    No full text
How does contemporaneity interpret Urban Design and what kind of meaning give to it? How has the economic and politic transformation process of the town influenced Urban Design? Through a comparative method applied to two comparable geographic realities (Italy and France), this dissertation investigates those actions related to the transformation of urban fringe contexts, inside and outside of dense town, setting out from a theoretical basis that examines the process of explosion of centre-town in the metropolitan territory since the Eighties to this day. Going through this transformation process, the dissertation interrogates about the notion of suburbs, centre and centrality by analyzing the issues provided by those actors that, both in Italy and France, have contributed to renew the notion of Urban Design. The aim of this dissertation has been then to show the analogies and differences in the mode of action of Design where several actors claim that theoretical contributions and first intervention strategies have developed

Identificazione e caratterizzazione del gene coinvolto nella Sindrome di Crisponi

Crisponi syndrome is a severe autosomal recessive condition, phenotypically characterized by abnormal, paroxysmal muscular contractions resembling neonatal tetanus, large face, broad nose, anteverted nares, camptodactyly, hyperthermia and sudden death in most cases. We performed homozygosity mapping in five Sardinian and three Turkish families with Crisponi syndrome using high-density SNP arrays and identified a critical region on chromosome 19p12-13.1. The most prominent candidate gene was CRLF1, recently found to be involved in the pathogenesis of cold-induced sweating syndrome type 1 (CISS1). CISS1 belongs to a group of conditions with overlapping phenotypes, also including cold induced sweating syndrome type 2 (CISS2) and Stüve-Wiedemann syndrome (SWS). All these syndromes are caused by mutations of genes of the ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF)receptor pathway. Here we describe the identification of four different CRLF1 mutations in eight different Crisponi families, including a missense mutation, a single nucleotide insertion, a nonsense and an insertion/deletion (indel) mutation, all segregating with the disease trait in the families. Comparison of the mutation spectra of Crisponi syndrome and CISS1 suggests that neither the type nor location of the CRLF1 mutations point to a phenotype/genotype correlation that would account for the most severe phenotype in Crisponi syndrome. Other, still unknown molecular factors may be responsible for the variable phenotypic expression of the CRLF1 mutations. We suggest that the syndromes can comprise a family of “CNTF receptor-related disorders”, of which Crisponi syndrome would be the newest member and allelic to CISS1

Asseing visitor satisfaction with tourism rejuvenation policies: the case of Rimini, Italy

    Get PDF
In this paper we assess the appeal of potential interventions on the tourism offer of Rimini, a popular Italian seaside holiday destination, by means of a choice modelling analysis. Tourism can be viewed as a composite good, its overall utility depending on the arrangement of the component characteristics. Our discrete choice experiments incorporate as attributes a number of possible changes to current tourist activities (the subject of public debate), including them in hypothetical alternative holiday packages. The conditional logit analysis indicates that tourists show lesser preference for interventions aimed at protecting the environmental integrity of the beach and greater preference for those, such as the creation of a pedestrianised seafront with late-night opening of amenities and facilities, that are likely to diminish the role of the traditional sea, sun and sand component of the overall holiday experience

Trade Integration, Firm Selection and the Costs of Non-Europe

In models with heterogeneous …rms trade integration has a positive impact on aggregate productivity through the selection of the best …rms as import competition drives the least productive ones out of the market. To quantify the impact of …rm selection on productivity, we calibrate and validate a multi-country multi-sector model with monopolistic competition and variable markups using …rm-level data and aggregate trade …gures on a panel of 11 EU countries. Simulating the model, we …nd that EU trade has a sizeable impact on aggregate productivity. For instance, in 2000 the introduction of prohibitive trade barriers would have caused an average productivity loss of roughly 13 per cent, whereas a reduction of intra-EU trade costs by 5 per cent would have generated a productivity gain of roughly 2 per cent. Productivity losses and gains, however, vary a lot across countries and sectors depending on market accessibility and trade costs, which maps into di¤erential responses of average markups, prices, quantities and pro…ts. We show that our results are robust to alternative distance and productivity measures

In this paper the authors analyse the land cover transformation in the mine district of Montevecchio, through the integration of vegetational and multitemporal landscape analysis. Por this purpose, three important dates (1955, 1977, 2000) of the district history have been considered and two different periods are analysed (1955-1977 and 1977-2000). Multitemporal analysis was carried out through thè study of aerial photographs which resulted in the production of three 1:10.000 land cover maps. Vegetational data were obtained through the phytosociological study of the area. The results show the evolution of the natural vegetation as general trend in the territory. Particular analysis was carried out on the mining areas (mining dumps, surface mines and tailing dams) to understand how much and how have been re-colonized by thè native vegetation. Por the mining dumps the main transformations are towards thè mediterranean maquis, the garrigue and thè corkoak woods. The surface mines was stable in the first period for 73.6% and thè main changes are due to the diffusion of naturai vegetation (e.g. to mediterranean maquis 14.7%). With regard to the tailing dams we observed an increase of stability (from 81.6% to 96.1%) together with a global increase of surface from 1955 to 2000. Therefore, thè integration of thè multitemporal and the vegetational analysis made possible to register a significant evolution of thè vegetation cover on incoherent and polluted materials in relatively short times

Piano forestale ambientale regionale: all. 2.: descrizione delle serie di vegetazione

    No full text

Expression of fetal globin is silenced normally in adult life; however, determinants linked and/or unlinked to the globin-gene clusters could modify Hb F expression so it persists into adults. Increased expression in adults offers hope as a cure for sickle cell disease (SCD) and b thalassemia, since formation of FS hybrids in SCD inhibits deoxy Hb S polymerization while increased fetal chain expression compensates partially for decreased adult b-globin chains in b thalassemia. Characterization and controlled manipulation of high Hb F determinants is critical to decreasing clinical severity of these life-threatening genetic diseases, which result in high morbidity and mortality worldwide. We report on analysis of a unique b-thalassemia cohort from Sardinia who present with either 1) a mild, non-transfusion-dependent (NTD) form expressing high Hb F, or with 2) a severe, transfusion-dependent (TD) form expressing low Hb F. Both groups are homozygous for the b39 chain-termination mutation and lack adult b globin. Genome-wide DNA arrays were run on 14 TD and 14 NTD patients using the Affymetrix 500K (500,568 SNPs) SNP chip platforms. The average sample cali rates were 94.3% for the 500K chip. Additional samples are being analyzed in an attempt to achieve sufficient power to reach genome-wide significance

Variabilità genetica del cromosoma Y in Sardegna: implicazioni negli studi di associazione sulle malattie multifattoriali.

The island of Sardinia shows a unique high incidence of several autoimmune diseases with multifactorial inheritance, particularly type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. The prior knowledge of the genetic structure of this population is fundamental to establish the optimal design for association studies in these diseases. Previous work suggested that the Sardinians are a relatively homogenous population, but some reports were contradictory and data were largely based on variants subject to selection. For an unbiased assessment of genetic structure, we studied a combination of neutral Y-chromosome variants, 21 biallelic and 8 short tandem repeats (STRs) in 930 Sardinian males. We found a high degree of interindividual variation but a homogenous distribution of the detected variability in samples from three separate regions of the island. One haplogroup, I-M26, is rare or absent outside Sardinia and is very common (0.37 frequency) throughout the island, consistent with a founder effect. A Bayesian full likelihood analysis (BATWING) indicated that the time from the most recent common ancestor (TMRCA) of I-M26, was 21.0 (16.0-25.5) thousand years ago (KYA) and that the population began to expand 14.0 (7.8-22.0) KYA. These results suggest a largely pre-Neolithic settlement of the island with little subsequent gene flow from outside populations. Consequently, Sardinia is an especially attractive venue for case-control genome wide association scans in common multifactorial diseases. Concomitantly, the high degree of interindividual variation in the current population facilitates fine mapping efforts to pinpoint the aetiologic polymorphisms

Organizzazione del consenso e strategia militare del Partito Comunista Indocinese nel nord Vietnam dalla conferenza di Pac Bo al 2 settembre 1945

The thesis analyses a crucial period in the Vietnamese history. While we know almost everything about the first (1946-54) and the second Indochinese war (1964-75), the French-Japanese co-habitation in Viet Nam, which ended with the 1945 Revolution, did not raise any particular interest among Western scholars. Nevertheless, the research began because of the dissatisfaction towards the analyses and the conclusions some Western scholars presented. Nobody found the reasons of the military and social victory of the communists in the changes impressed to the Indochinese Communist Party (ICP) by the Conference of Pac Bo (May 1941). The origins of the massive popular support, which enabled Ho Chi Minh and its organization to keep the leadership of the country for decades, lie in the period between 1941 and 1945. This is the hypothesis verified by the thesis. The research studies the organization of the consent and the military strategy carried on by the ICP from 1941 on. Both these aspects have been analyzed from the point of view of the "subaltern", that is the eyes of the Vietnamese people during that period. A comprehensive research has been conducted at the CAOM (Centre des Archives d'Outre-Mer) in Aix-en-Provence and at the National Archives nr. 1 in Hanoi. Moreover, several documents, some of them unpublished, have been consulted at the Museum of the Revolution and the Institute for the History of the Vietnamese Communist Party in Hanoi
