Transnational Deep Ecologies: Comparative Eco- Consciousness in Le Guin’s "Always Coming Home" and Crvenkovska’s "The House Above the Waves
This paper explores the presence of deep ecological thought in Ursula K. Le Guin’s Always
Coming Home and Biljana Crvenkovska’s Куќа над брановите (The House Above the Waves),
focusing on the ways in which both texts embody an environmental consciousness rooted in
interconnectedness, humility before nature, and non-anthropocentric values. Drawing on
Arne Naess’s principles of Deep Ecology, the paper examines how Le Guin constructs a
fictional society (the Kesh) whose worldview is integrally ecological—marked by balance,
restraint, and spiritual kinship with the land—offering an ecotopian vision of a possible future.
In contrast, Crvenkovska’s novel situates nature within a deeply personal and symbolic
framework, where the sea becomes an extension of memory, selfhood, and transformation.
While Le Guin’s work projects a collective, systemic expression of ecological awareness,
Crvenkovska’s text internalizes that awareness, portraying nature as an intimate force
shaping emotional and existential landscapes. By comparing these distinct yet resonant ecoliterary
visions, the paper aims to illuminate how Deep Ecology can manifest both as a
cultural ethos and an individual journey. Ultimately, the analysis demonstrates the flexibility of
ecocritical frameworks in crossing cultural and genre boundaries, fostering a broader,
transnational understanding of ecological storytelling
Role of Doxycycline on the Finding of Fusobacterium Nucleatum in Periodontitis
Background & Aim: To evaluate the efficiency of systemically
applied Doxycycline in a daily dose of 1 × 100 mg. and 2 × 20 mg. on Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) in patients with periodontitis.
Methods: The examined group consisted of 60 patients with a
moderate form of chronic periodontitis where the periodontal
depth was 3–5 mm, aged 30–70 years old. The first group con
sisted of 30 patients who were treated with Doxycycline 2 × 20 mg. daily (morning and evening) for 75 days and a second group with the same number of subjects who received 1 × 100 mg. daily (morning), 30 days. The total dose received by each subject during the research was 3 g.
Gingival fluid samples from which Fn was determined were
collected using 2 × 5 mm. methylcellulose strips (Whatmann
3 MM Chromatography paper). Paper absorbents with the sam
ple are treated on nutrient media by rolling on the media (Maki's method). The material is incubated at 36°C ± 1°C in anaerobic conditions (Anaerocult A mini—MERCK). The final identification of the bacteria was done with an automatic system for the identification of bacterial species- VITEK 2 COMPAQ.
Results: In the first group of patients who received doxycycline 2 × 20 mg. daily for 2.5 months, after 2.5 months 13 (21.67%) positive and 17 (28.33%) negative findings of Fn were registered. In the second group of patients who received doxycycline 100 mg. daily for 30 days, 21 (35.00%) positive and 9 (15.00%) negative findings of Fn were registered. In the distribution shown for Pearson chi- square = 4.34 and p < 0.05 (p = 0.04) there is a significant difference in the findings of Fusobacterium nucleatum
(Fn) between the two groups of patients.
Conclusions: The daily dose of 2 × 20 mg. doxycycline in patients with periodontitis more effectively reduces the anaerobe Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn)

Tooth color matching with intraoral scanner
Traditional methods of shade selection in dentistry have been criticized for their precision and subjectivity. Intraoral scanners have emerged as a promising alternative, offering digital precision in capturing tooth color. This study aims to assess the precision of the 3SHAPE TRIOS 3 intraoral scanner in matching tooth.
Each shade tab, from a new VITA Classical Shade Guide, was scanned 10 times using the TRIOS 3 IOS to ensure repeatability and consistency in color capture. The colors of the scanned shade tabs were analyzed using the CIE Lab system. The color differences between the scanned values and VITA shade values were calculated using the ΔE formula. The data were analyzed employing descriptive statistics and ANOVA to assess mean differences and overall precision.

ANOVA results indicated significant differences among mean color differences for various shades (p < 0.05). Post hoc tests (Tukey HSD) revealed that the scanned colors for A1 and B1 were statistically more accurate compared to darker shades such as D4.
The precision of this intraoral scanner in tooth color matching demonstrates high levels of accuracy and the findings support the use of digital scanning technology in this process. The mean ΔE values suggest that the scanner is particularly effective for lighter shades, while performance decreases slightly for darker shades
Integrated environmental impact assessment of the Sasa tailing dam failure using remote sensing techniques
Failures of tailings dams represent a critical environmental hazard, releasing mining by-products that cause long-term damage to nearby ecosystems. This research presents a detailed analysis using remote sensing techniques of the 2003 Sasa tailing dam disaster in North Macedonia. By utilising Landsat 5 imagery and Google Earth Engine (GEE), multiple spectral indices-including Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalised Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), Normalised Difference Water Index (NDWI), Modified NDWI (MNDWI), and a turbidity proxy-were integrated to examine the immediate and spatial impacts on vegetation health, soil moisture, water presence, and sediment levels.
The findings indicated that the degree of ecological fluctuation of the river path was high in terms of vegetation stress, changes in soil moisture, water pooling, and turbidity.
These effects showed spatial gradients, with the impact reducing further from the contamination pathway, forming distinct zones of influence. Some areas at intermediate distances showed anomalous disturbances, combining sediment and hydrological changes that obstruct vegetation recovery. Pixel-level, buffer-based, and zone-based analyses, with Z-scores and correlation studies, revealed complexity in post-disaster landscapes. Importantly, the weak correlation with topographic features suggested localised conditions, rather than broad gradients, governed short-term ecological recovery.
These results provide valuable insight for policymakers, demonstrating how multi-index and multiscale approaches are necessary to capture the varied ecosystem responses to tailings dam failures. This study offers a framework for other disaster sites and promotes better-targeted remediation, informed disaster planning, and sustainable management of post-mining landscapes in a rapidly changing global context
Microbiological groundwater quality in shallow wells before and after disinfection with peracetic acid
The microbiological examination of water is used worldwide to monitor and control the quality and safety of various types of water. Peracetic acid (PAA) has garnered increasing attention as an alternative oxidant and disinfectant in water treatment due to the rising demand to reduce chlorine usage and control disinfection byproducts. The main aim of the research was to assess the well water microbiological quality before and after disinfection with PAA. The water samples were taken from 5 wells in the rural areas of Probishtip and Kocani regions of North Macedonia. Sampling was conducted twice (before and after disinfection) per season during the four seasons of the year. Water samples from 5 shallow wells were analysed for microbiological parameters using reference methods. The results were compared with the quality of control water and the permissible values according to the national legislation. Water quality parameters indicated that all well water samples failed to meet safe drinking water limits. A significant improvement in the microbiological quality of the water was observed during the seasons when a PAA working solution with concentrations of 0.05% and 0.1% was used. The regression statistical model revealed that disinfection with PAA and the seasonal variation in its concentration had a statistically significant influence on the microbiological quality of well water (p<0.001). Identification and management of groundwater quality are of utmost importance for maintaining freshwater resources, which are essential for sustainable rural development

Жените и рецидивизмот: трендови, фактори и предизвици за правосудниот систем на Северна Македонија
Рецидивизмот кај жените во Република Северна Македонија е, академски и стручно, недоволно обработена тема и е неадекватно применувана како варијабила при креирање на политики за превенција на женското престапништво.
Презентацијата ја прикажува анализираната појавата на рецидивизмот кај женската популација осуденици во Република Северна Македонија во периодот 2017–2024 година,компарирано со податоци од претходната декада, со особен фокус на повторното извршување на кривични дела од областа на имотните деликти. Анализата на достапните податоци од судовите покажува дека најголем дел од нив не водат грижа за овој сегмент и немаат систематизирани податоци по ова прашање. Исто и дека најголем дел од жените рецидивисти повторно вршат кривични дела поврзани со имот, што укажува на силна поврзаност меѓу економската ранливост и криминалното поведение.
И покрај умерениот економски раст во земјата во наведениот период, жените остануваат економски маргинализирани – со ниско учество на пазарот на труд (околу 42 %) и ограничен пристап до флексибилни работни услови. Традиционалните родови улоги, недостигот на институционална поддршка за згрижување деца и ограничените можности за социјална реинтеграција се идентификувани како клучни фактори што придонесуваат за рецидивизам кај жените. Истражувањето претставува обид да се интерпретираат овие обрасци преку интерсекционална перспектива која ги зема предвид и структурните, и индивидуалните фактори во објаснување на женското криминално однесување. И пред се да служи како апел за сите релевантни чинители на правосудниот систем во земјата, дека овој параметар е особено важен при креирање на превентивна политика, како и при доделување на соодветен третман кај жените престапници, и спроведување на целокупната репресивна политика

Ова учебно помагало претставува еден едукативен водич на медицинската сестра за препознавање на состојбите кај пациентите со коло-ректален карцином во текот на онколошкиот третман. Molecular and immunohistochemical biomarkers in colorectal carcinoma - a single center study
Objective: Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in the world and among the most frequent causes of cancer-related death. Our study aimed to
evaluate the molecular profile of the patients diagnosed
with colorectal carcinoma at Clinical Hospital AcibademSistina in Skopje.
Materials and methods: This study is retrospectiveprospective, conducted at the Department of histopathology and cytology, at Clinical Hospital Acibadem-Sistina in Skopje. Tissue samples from surgical material from 152patients diagnosed with CRC were processed for molecular and immunohistochemical analysis. KRAS and BRAF
mutations were analyzed, and MMR status was obtained.
In 90 metastatic cases, evaluation of HER2 and PDL-1
expression was performed on a tissue microarray.
Results: Among 152 analyzed patients diagnosed
with colorectal carcinoma, the majority were males (98,
64.47%) compared to females (54, 35.53%). The mean
age was 68.4±11.3 years; the median age was 70 years.
KRAS/NRAS mutations were detected in 47(31%) of patients, BRAF mutations in 11(7%) patients, and mismatch
repair gene deficiency (MMRd) was found in 15(10%) of
patients. HER2 positive expression was present in 36(40%)
of patients, and 17(19%) of patients showed PDL-1 expression. In the group of 17 PDL1-positive tumors, a cutoff of more than 1% positive tumor cells was detected in 10 cases, more than 10% tumor cells in 4 cases, and more than 50% tumor cells in 3 cases. From 36 HER2 positive cases,32(32,5%) were with score 2+, and 4(4,4%) with score 3+.Conclusions: Continued research into molecular
mechanisms and biomarkers holds the promise of further
improving CRC outcomes through personalized and effective interventions
