Indonesian Muslims’ Cognitive Pattern on Social Media During Political Disagreements
The 2017 Jakarta governor election had encouraged polarization among Muslims, including among media social users: those who agreed and those who disagreed with voting for Basuki Ahok Tjahaja Purnama since he was prosecuted for allegedly committing blasphemy. This study has examined the cognitive pattern amongst disputants: whether cognitive pattern and religiosity contribute to political disagreements or not. Participants were Indonesia’s Muslim social media users (N=300). Using multiple regression analysis, the findings have demonstrated that analytical thinking produces higher disagreement than holistic thinking. In addition, higher level of religiosity produces higher disagreement
Sertifikasi atau Standarisasi Khatib? Respons Para Da’i di Kota Mataram
This study discusses the response of da'i in the city of Mataram related to the discourse on certification of Friday prayer preachers which was commissioned by the government in 2017. This study used qualitative methods. In-depth interview towards da'i and Jumat prayer preachers was utilized to collect the data to answer the focus of the research. The findings of this study revealed that currently the khatib certification is not necessary. This is because there is no strong evidence that has shown the radicalization occurs in Mataram resulted from Friday sermon. However, the respondents emphasized the importance of standardization of all aspects of religion, especially on aspects of the mosque management and religious institutional management under the guidance of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion and Islamic community organizations
Komunikasi Getok Tular dan Metode Dakwah Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia
This study aims to explain how the use of word of mouth communication (getok tular) and the rationale behind the usage as a method of da’wah within Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The results of the study revealed that the word of mouth communication was applied for two activities, namely as a method of delivering da’wah messages and as a method of cadre with a chain system to official members who were stratified based on the study book or HTI curriculum. The reason why HTI used word of mouth communication as a method of da’wah was because of the effectiveness and efficiency factors as well as socio-cultural factors

This paper discusses da'wah (proselytising) through social media. The prevailing method of da'wah used by da'i currently is considered to still tend to be traditional and monotonous. Komunikasi Artifaktual Status Instagram “Ning” Pondok Pesantren
The development of social media apparently also influenced social communication amongst the pesantren community, including the daughter of the Kiai, called as "ning". This article discusses artifactual communication on Instagram status which was uploaded by "Ning" of Islamic boarding school (Pondok pesantren). Using a text analysis approach, the results of this study concluded that uploaded images on Instagram conducted periodically by "Ning" of Pondok pesantren was a form of a non-verbal message pattern that could be interpreted as artifactual communication, which reflected the established and high socio-economic class "Ning" as the Kiai's daughter. In addition, the respect given to Kiai's daughter on social media was similar to what occurred in real life. In this sense, the polite attitude which was found in the cyber community was the reflection that occurred in the offline reality in pesantren

This article aims to describe in detail the social media influence on a shift towards journalistic practices in Malang Raya. Through observation and in-depth interviews to journalists of Malang Voice, Surya Malang, Times Indonesia, and Campus Info, this study has concluded that there has been a shift in journalistic activities resulted from the rapid growth of social media, namely the way of news production and news dissemination, the way of understanding journalistic principles, and gatekeeping role. In this regards, social media has become a highly important part of newsgathering as a wider range of sources, references, ideas, and issues, as well as channels for disseminating news. With regard to the changes of journalistic principle meaning, journalistic objectivity has referred to authentication, verification has shifted to transparency, and gatekeeping role has changed to collaborative practices
Televising Rural Muslim Culture: Hybrid Muslim Identities on TV Series Upside-Down World
this article aims to contribute to the current understanding of how the religious-based TV drama Upside-Down World (Dunia Terbalik) depicts the identity of rural-based Muslim society in the contemporary Indonesia. Utilizing a formal method of film criticism, it reveals that the soap opera Dunia Terbalik simulates 'a hybrid new Santri identity' as well as it blurs the existing identities like Geertz' classification of santri. Further, the reculturization occurs within TV drama narrative, through which hybrid new Santri identity constructed, is likely intended to convey the notion that Indonesian Islam (Santri) should be globalized, and the global should be Santrinisized"

This article discusses the urgency of media literacy in addressing the framing of cynicism and conflict issues between tribes, religions, races and groups carried out by the mass media in Indonesia. Specifically, this study attempts to contribute the role of media literacy in minimizing cynicism between tribes, religions, races and groups. Through text studies, this article argues that literacy is considered as science. The more educated people, the more acquired knowledge will be. It means that when people receive more information from the mass media, they will certainly be wiser. Further, to raise public awareness, a systematic way through education, both formal and non-formal, is needed. Hence, harmonious human relations could be realized, regardless of ethnic status, race, and religious belief
Model Dakwah Networking: Analisis Dakwah IDIAL-MUI dalam Penutupan Lokalisasi Prostitusi di Jawa Timur
This article seeks to discuss in depth the model of networking proselytising conducted by the Asociation of Preachers in Localization Area (IDIAL) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of East Java in attempting to close down prostitution practices in East Java. Using a participatory approach, this study concluded that the IDIAL-MUI networking da'wah model used both structural and cultural approaches. The structural approach was carried out by building and strengthening power networks, namely bureaucracy, politics and the military in the process of closing the "localization". Whereas the cultural approach is carried out through building networks amongst the social, economic, community, and tertiary organization sectors by using da'wah bi al-hal. Model Komunikasi Sinergis Berbasis Islam dan Penanggulangan Kejahatan Seksual terhadap Anak
The emergency of sexual violence against children in Indonesia is considered to involve religious intervention for resolution. This article discusses the role of Islamic teachings in creating individual, social, cultural, and contextual forces as factors affecting synergetic communication for children, which further contributes to minimizing sexual abuse against children. This article argues that Islamic teachings such as introducing the masculine and feminine souls towards children in the early age, introducing the concept of aurat and sexual education to children as well as providing qishas or diyat punishment for child sexual offenders, will be able to contribute to creating societal and individual forces for their social communication skills that can protect them form predators of sexual abuse
