Full text linkSocial communication is the activity aimed for unifying social components, which have various and different behaviors. Communication is a reflection of the existence of community social life, so human can argues, empathizes and relates with the others. This study used a phenomenological approach so communication phenomena in ex-Dolly society Surabaya can be understood as an experience of self-awareness in daily activities. The society there basically produces experiences that later will be constructed into meaningful action in their social life. The findings of this study are expected to provide insight into the values of communication to the public in the context of socio-humanitarian

Full text linkThe research aims to know the relationship among self-efficacy and communication skills toward public spea–king anxiety. The subject of the research is 50 students in the 6th semester at Faculty of Dakwah and Communication, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Using multiple regression analysis and partial correlation, the study reveals that t. The result shows that the self-efficacy and communication skills are correlated with public speaking anxiety. High skill of communication cannot reduce public speaking anxiety. The hypothesis that says there is a negative relationship between communication skills and public speaking anxiety, not proven. It means that the hypothesis is rejected. The research results reveal that perhaps there are other factors influence the anxiety of student’s public speaking skills
Pesan Dakwah dalam Novel Negeri Lima Menara
Full text linkThis study discusses the message of dakwah in the novel Negeri 5 Menara and how the delivery of messages of dakwah that exists in the novel. This study is a qualitative research using discourse analysis of Van Djik. Results of this study suggest that the propaganda message that exist in the novel covering aspects of aqidah and Shari'ah. In delivering a message, by using discourse analysis model of Van Dijk, found thematically that country title of novel Negeri 5 Menara depicts dreams of students who want to study in the major countries that have large towers. While the semantics, the author of this novel wants to represent that Islamic boarding schools are not inferior to public schools
Media Literacy Siswa Muslim Surabaya dalam Penggunaan Internet
Full text linkThis article discusses about media literacy of the senior high school students using internet facility to search, acces, and evaluate information or everything they need as well as how they communicate the information. Population of this research is senior high school students in Al Hikmah Surabaya. The depiction of the student’s media literacy will be analised based on their personal and social competence. Models of media literacy that become references in this research are Individual Competences Framework by European Commision, Grade of media literacy by Fedorov, ICT Literacy by Katz, and other model information behavior from Ellis, and Dervin. The result shows that in terms of personal competence the student’s media literacy classified at the level of media literacy medium type while in social compe–tence the level of their media literacy is in advance type
Uses and Effects of Religious Programs among Yemeni Audiences
Full text linkAbstract: The study aims to contribute to the current under–standing of how audiences make use of religious programs broadcasted in both religious satellite channels (RSCs) and Arabic satellite channels. 210 respondents were surveyed to address the nature of exposure to RSCs and religious pro–grams, motives, and attitudes toward them. Utilizing uses and effect approach and Hall’s encoding and decoding model of media discourses, this study confirms a high expo–sure to RSCs among adult television viewers in Yemen. Of religious contents, Islamic lectures particularly represent the most watched program by respondents. It also states that emotional effects represent the prominent effects of religious programs uses followed by normative, and limited beha–vioral effects.Keywords: religious programs, uses and effects approach, Hall's encoding/decoding model, Yemeni audience
Konsep Komunitas dalam Pemikiran dan Dakwah Said Nursi
Full text linkThis paper discusses the thoughts and activities of Said Nursi Dakwah movement, especially on the concept of community. To collect the data this study uses text analytics to the works of Nursi, observation and interviews. It is ex–pected that by used such a research, the meanings of verbal and non-verbal communication can be interpreted to obtain a more complete picture of the Nur activities of Dakwah so that the discussion does not get stuck on merely historical empirical approach. The authors conclude that the Nursi Dakwah movement is a non-political movement that em–phasizes a commitment to the values of the universality of Islam. In addition, the concept of community in the Nursi thought empowers the Communitarian theory established by Hamid Mowlana and Wilson (1990), and Majid Tehranian (1989)
The Integration of Dakwah in Journalism: Peace Journalism
Full text linkThis article discusses the integration of Islam, particularly da’wa, with peace journalism. It argues that Islamic communication is basically peace journalism. Islamic communication consists of tabligh (information), taghyir (social change), khairu ummah (exemplary community), and akhlaq al-karimah (noble behavior, civil society), the purpose of which is to perpetuate conflict sensitivity, constructive conflict, and conflict resolution. Muslim journalists can produce articles about Islam to promote Islamic teachings relevant to universal values, including inclusiveness for humanity values which are inclusive. It is important for Muslims to create a platform for sharing information and religious values that can be discussed by audiences
Semiotika Karapan Sapi dan Transformasi Simbolik Masyarakat Madura
Full text linkMadura society is synonymous with a rough character. This article discusses the transformation of the symbolic character of the Madurese through Karapan Sapi, known hard to be anti-violence. By using qualitative methods and through a semiotic approach, this study suggests that there has been a change in the character of the Madurese, which is shown through the change symbols in Karapan Sapi. It can be seen from the removal rekeng used as a symbol of violence in the cattle races, and replaced with a regular whip made of materials not sharp. Thus it is the initiative of the community leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and the government to change the imple–mentation of cattle races, without violence

Analisis Framing Pemberitaan Pilkada Maluku Di Harian Ambon Express dan Rakyat Maluku
Full text linkThis study aims to find out how Harian Rakyat Maluku and Ambon Express frame candidates for governor and deputy governor of Mal using text analysis through framing analysis, it was found that the Ambon Express and Harian Rakyat Maluku too highlight one of the candidates for governor and vice governor who wants to compete in the local elections, but the two media are different views on candidates for governor and vice governor of Maluku highlighted. That is to say that the independence and ob–jectivity of the media in informing local election in Maluku event doubtful. While the quantity of news related to the elections, Harian Rakyat Maluku more than Ambon Express.Keywords: framing analysis, mass media, news, local election----------------------------------------------------------------------Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Bagaimana Harian Rakyat Maluku dan Ambon Express membingkai berita calon gubernur dan wakil gubernur Maluku. dengan menggunakan metode analisis teks melalui analisis framing, maka ditemukan bahwa Ambon Express dan Harian Rakyat Maluku terlalu menonjolkan salah satu calon gubernur dan wakil gubernur yang ingin bertarung di Pilkada Maluku, meskipun kedua media massa tersebut berbeda pandangan tentang calon gubernur dan calon wakil gubernur Maluku yang ditonjolkan. Artinya, independensi dan obyektifitas kedua media tersebut dalam memberitakan suatu peristiwa masing diragukan. Sedangkan terkait dengan kuantitas pemberitaan Pilkada, Harian Rakyat Maluku memberitakan lebih banyak daripada Ambon Express.Kata Kunci: Analisis framing, media massa, berita, pemilihan kepada daera
