Vehicles are a means of mobility for society. However, the use of vehicles cannot be separated from the risk of accidents that may occur. In Indonesia, 133 million motorcycle accident cases were recorded in 2019. Accidents are influenced by many factors, one of which is brake failure. Brake failure itself is caused by overheating of the brake disc. Modifying the braking system is one of the measures taken to prevent overheating in the braking system. The application of braking system modifications on motorcycles may also influence rider behavior when on the road. In this study, an identification was carried out regarding the use of modifications to braking system components and their impact on motorcycle rider behavior, observed from several aspects: speeding, lane filtering, and panic braking. The identification was conducted using a questionnaire containing questions on the braking components modified by riders and their riding behavior related to such modifications. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, it was found that there were no significant differences in rider behavior across the three aspects—speeding, lane filtering, and panic braking—between different types of motorcycle braking system modifications

Small and medium-scale manufacturing industries generally face difficulties in minimizing their operational costs. The company's Make-to-Order strategy causes fluctuations in the number of jobs received, so it minimizes fixed costs such as labor wages. This phenomenon occurs in rectifier panel manufacturing companies and various other companies. Companies minimize the number of permanent employees and recruit daily contract employees. Unfortunately, daily contract employees are recruited when orders are received (t=0) so that employees are still paid even though work is not yet available. This study attempts to determine the timing of recruiting daily contract employees that is adjusted to the scheduled work. The method used is a combination of project management with the theory of constraints. The study focuses on three things, namely: (1) Determining the number of workers based on the workload in each position. (2) Conducting project scheduling using the PDM (Precedence Diagram Method) project scheduling method. (3) Applying the Theory of Constraint (TOC) method at problematic workstations so that product flow is balanced. The results of the study show efficient performance, namely: the number of workers decreased from 24 people to 17 people, and the duration of the project decreased from 171 working days to 94 working day

    Get PDF
The business process improvement at the Research and Community Services Center (LPPM), at a private university in Jakarta, was initiated due to unclear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the introduction of a new operational mechanism. The main objective of this research is to analyze and map the current business processes to clarify existing workflows. The IDEF0 method is used to identify and evaluate these processes, while the overall analysis follows Business Process Improvement (BPI) principles. The focus is on three core processes: proposal submission, fund disbursement, and reporting—each essential to research, community service, and publication activities. Improvements are proposed through the development of a revised SOP and the design of an online database system. These enhancements are based on interviews with key stakeholders, including the Head of the Center for System Development, LPPM officials, and staff. The use of the IDEF0 method significantly assists in identifying the roles and responsibilities of involved parties in each process. It provides a structured approach to evaluating and refining workflows. As a result, a new database system is being designed to support better data management and documentation at LPPM. This system will be built upon the improved processes identified through the IDEF0 analysis, ensuring more efficient and transparent operations

Using earphones or earbuds while driving positively and negatively impacts the driver. Congestion is a condition that causes motorists to use these hearing aids. However, the use of hearing aids while driving can threaten the safety of drivers and other drivers. The Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) area is an area with many motorcyclists, so it can be a reference for motorists to pay attention to the dangers of using earphones while driving. Using earphones while driving, motorcyclists often do not focus on road conditions. Moreover, motorists can be indifferent to signs and other motorists. Therefore, a study was conducted on the use of hearing aids by two-wheeled riders in the BSD area to reveal the underlying problems associated with the use of hearing aids when driving. This study was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires and data processing using the chi-square test and logistic regression. This study aimed to determine motorcyclists’ level of awareness about the dangers of using earphones while driving. The result showed that a relationship exists between the frequency of use and driving comfort; the dominant factor affected by using hearing aids while driving is a reduction in emotions due to traffic jams. This study recommends that the government address traffic congestion due to its strong impact on driver emotions. For motorcyclists, it is advised to keep the earphone volume low to maintain focus on traffic signs and surrounding sounds

Continuous Method: A Flexible Solution for Metal Length Expansion Measurement in the Modern Manufacturing Industry

    No full text
Measurement of metal length expansion is crucial in the modern manufacturing industry as it impacts product design, production, and performance. Current conventional method (Discrete Methods/DM) relies on an initial reference length (L0), which limits the flexibility of in-situ and continuous measurements. This study compares the accuracy and flexibility of DM with the Continuous Method (CM), an approach that potentially eliminates the need for L0 after the initial measurement. Using numerical simulations on five metals, this study analyzes calculations for estimating metal length expansion under various heating scenarios. The results show that both methods provide similar differences in metal length thermal expansion values (difference <0.0001 m), confirming their comparative accuracy. However, CM proves significantly more flexible as it allows the calculation of metal length thermal expansion estimates at arbitrary temperatures without the need to refer to L0, unlike DM, which requires L0 for consistency. This flexibility makes CM more practical for both incremental and real-time measurements, supporting the integration of automation into precision manufacturing processes. Implications for the manufacturing industry include increased efficiency of in-situ measurements, reduced reliance on initial data, and the potential for better integration with continuous quality control systems and Digital Twins

The development of information technology has impacted current business behavior, affecting both users (customers) and business owners. Everyone is competing to maximize the use of information technology, whether to facilitate transactions or to improve business management efficiency. This situation is also experienced by CV. Florence Collection, a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) operating in the garment industry, which faces several challenges in managing its business using a manual system. For instance, customer and transaction records are managed using Microsoft Excel, resulting in manually generated reports that are prone to recording errors. Additionally, customers have limited access to information during the ordering process, and payment verification by the business owner is not efficient. Based on these challenges, this study proposes the design of a web-based system for managing the operations of CV. Florence Collection. The system design follows the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method, consisting of four stages: planning, analysis, design, and implementation, using PHP as the programming language and MySQL as the database. The proposed system is tested using the blackbox testing method. The designed information system can be implemented by incurring implementation costs, such as hosting, domain, maintenance, and development expenses
